My parents rented this movie on Redbox at a time when no one was looking up movie reviews on line as we do nowadays, because, media entertainment hadn’t fully impacted society just yet. I watched this movie as a film and by the end of it, I really enjoyed. This is one of those times that a 0% rotten tomato deserves to be deemed fresh, as there’s 0% rottenness to this tomato here. The drama and comedy work together here nicely, and despite this being a film that was filmed in 2008 and released in 2012, it still did hold up with the movies around that time. It’s not a perfect movie, but it’s a film that shouldn’t be receiving unjustified hate that’s best reserved for Velma tv show.
@@gravedigr12 That's not true at all. First of all, we already know that's not true by simple observation. Most human beings have compassion for others. Second of all, having compassion for others has almost no connection to whether someone would like this movie or not; this movie isn't about compassion, it's about redemption and forgiveness. Third of all, if your reasoning made any sense then _every_ movie with a heartwarming message would be panned, and that isn't what happens. There are lots of heartwarming movies that were well-received, because they were executed well.
This whole sequence the first time I saw this made me cry. And I thought to myself, I can’t believe I’m crying over a movie that is mostly a comedy. But I was overcome with emotion when I saw that sequence. This film deserved more praise than it got.
This movie has such an important message: to let go of long-time grudges, learn to forgive, and especially to watch what you say. Words are very impactful to you and especially to the people around you. 🌳🍃🍃🍃
A Thousand Words not the best film o ever but this is truly one of the better films for a drama role. Eddie Murphy has ever been in. The elderly lady is just as brilliant actress she is very talented. The music is perfect to the words that are so moving. The older lady reminds me of my grandmother I was very close to her, and loved her a lot.
Also before he said at the graveyard, to see those 3 final leaves waiting to fall, it was as if he knew what he needed to say and knew what was about to happen. We shouldnt' take those moments for granted
Made me think of the last time I talked to my dad. Sent cold chills up my spine. I knew I needed to forgive my father before he forgave his. Nothing in this world is more important than telling someone you love them no matter how much hateand pain they put in your heart. Because like young Jack said, "You never when the last time you will see someone". I told my dad I loved him but I hated him for all the pain he caused me in the 14 years I knew him. Now as a father of 2 beautiful daughters I never want them to know the pain it is to live without a dad and the last words he hears be that. My father killed himself the next day. It's taken me 25.5 years to forgive him for not being there for me, my brother and sister. I love my father
Gamer4Life I cried uncontrollably when the movie ended. Not necessarily on this scene, but exactly when the movie ended. As soon as the credits started rolling, I broke down. Never in my life had I cried soo much. I've always hated my father and still do. I'm just glad I wasn't the only who cried.
Saw the movie today the first time , and this scene where he met himself in the past , is really the saddest part there, because the quote is so moving ..
I cried at this part in theaters when I was 14 seeing it with my mom, her first cousin and her kids, and my older brother when we visited them in Dallas for Spring Break
I saw this movie years ago, and I had forgotten how touching this scene is. It is so good/sad. Reminds me of what my mom says about giving someone their flowers while they can still accept them and smell them because they might not be here tomorrow. Thx for uploading 👍
I saw the movie when it came out in the theaters. I saw it on DVD some time after it was taken out of the theaters. I thought back then and even now that it's sad that Jack's mother was so senile that she didn't even know that her husband Raymond was dead and that Jack was her son. But luckily Jack pretended to pose as his father and went to visit his mother and made his wrongs rights.
Today marks the first day of my dream to write a Book on tearjerker scenes from modetn TV shows and movies. Bonus points when they come from otherwise throw away movies. As a Psychologist I want to analyze why they get us, especially us big ole guys. ; ( :)
One of the most under rated movies. Perhaps it stroke a nerve on trash talkers. If you don't really read the bible to understand it, you missed this part of the bible. Words have power and meaning. Powerful statement.
Honestly this scene should’ve been the whole movie; the irritating comedy that preceded it really makes the tone confused and it’s very cringey, then to go from that to this...it’s weird
Never understood the hate for this film, brilliant movie. Made me feel very deep emotions.
because most people don't have compassion for others and struggle to understand the concept
@@gravedigr12 Exactly, the can't see the deeper message behind the film.

One of the best scenes demonstrating love, compassion, and forgiveness

I feel like A Thousand Words was a comedy drama
Honestly i feel the same way and this scene can still make me cry

I did this as a monologue for a play I was auditioning for and I started crying while doing this scene. This is so emotional
One of Murphy's best.
I don't get it why it was so criticized and called the worst film he ever acted, I really enjoy it some scenes (one is this).
Love this! Watching in 2020 and probably gonna come back to watch this again years later.

When she said "I like cake, don't you jack?", Gordon Ramsay was cutting onions around me 😭😭
I forgot how sad this part of the movie made me i haven't seen it in a while but man i cried like a baby when i saw this again

These kinds of movies are simple but actually good
Scene always makes me tear up 😢
this movie is so underrated
One of the best comedy movies ever
this was the most saddest part of the movie, i cried and i couldn’t even continue watching it OHMYGOD
Started cutting onions when his mom remembered him
Same that part hit me hard
This made me cry as kid so hard 😭
Such a moving scene, brought tears to my eyes. Letting Go is difficult. But holding on without understanding is devastating to the soul.
The only move to ever really make me cry
Hollywood kinda rejected this movie
This is a very good film. Seriously!
