When I record my podcast episodes I usually have one if not two co-hosts in the studio with me. Of course that requires three pairs of headphones to monitor the mix going on. I use Sony MDR-7506 headphones for everyone and I love them. They are awesome recording studio headphones.
When I first started podcasting I did not have the Behringer HA4700 Headphone Amplifier. Due to a very tight budget I juts used two headphone splitters right out of the mixer headphone jack. I made split to my three pairs of headphones, but we all had to listen at the same sound level. Now, you can certainly do it this way and you certainly don't need this piece of equipment.
However, if you get larger and expand you may want to consider the Behringer HA4700. I now have the HA4700 in my podcast studio and I am loving it. It allows me to send a different volume levels to each pair of headphones. It is a 4-channel, so I can have up to 4 pairs of headphones that can all be set to a different listening level.
Check the video out above on how to hook up and use the Behringer HA4700 Headphone Amplifier
And you can adjust the bass, treble, and balance separate for each pair of headphones, which makes for a very quality sound. There is a master volume button that you could turn everyone's volume up or down with if needed.
You can also run the headphones out the front on each bank or out the back. The way my podcast studio is set up I run my headphones out the front to where I sit and the other two out the back to my co-hosts. I have the Behringer HA4700 in my frame rack right above my Behringer MDX4600 Compressor/Limiter/Gate and it fits nicely.
So, if you want to ramp things up a bit with your podcast studio then I strongly suggest the Behringer HA4700 Headphone Amplifier and I don't think you will be disappointed. - Авто та транспорт
A way for someone to use this in a non podcast application for individual mixes while recording music is to take Aux Out feeds from a mixer(TRS balanced 1/4') into the direct in of each channel on HA4700. This way you can give up to four ppl their own tailored headphone mix by adjusting the aux 1-4(or however many aux channels your mixer has)pots to put exactly which instrument in your ears and at the exact right level you want. Everyone is happy. And that makes for a good recording.
Yooooo..looking at your viddy made me pull mines out..the same headphone amp..seeing what u did, I was able to connect it up to my mbox3 pro..im here to tell you, THANK YOU BROLY, THANK YOU...excellent viddy..u have my sub👍🏿👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿💯
Thanks a lot for demo how to hook it up, really helped me.
Awesome that it helped. I saw a need and decided to shoot this tutorial. Wish I had time for more of these more often, but buried with my Podcast etc.
Hi thank for the video …
could you please tel me if each of 4 out channels (rear of machine) are stereo ?
Great Vid, cheers for sharing this
Muito boa explicação!! parabéns.
Are these headphone outputs any louder than if you come straight off the mixer's headphone jack? Or is it the same? Nice patient video, thanks.
Thanks Ryan. Really clear!! Are their any alternate ways to hook up?
Can i use it as a Comm system, like i connect 4 pairs of headphones with Mic so that 4 people can talk to each other? Any solutions?
Nice vid, But. there are a few ways to do it, the best way is to feed the main input with main mix, then re rout your aux out from mixer to direct input. plug in, all head phones. turn the main mix dail up, and ajust the aux/main mix dail to tast and that way you hear what you want. you could also use front and back phone output handy for backing singers and spilting the lead vox out to in put for backing singer works great to, vox and two backing. but still good vid clear understanding
Thanks! Can you plug 3 headphones simultaneously to each channel?
thats ok, thanks for your reply.
Thank you for this information.

After a year of owning this model how do you feel about it? I was thinking about buying it but I read a decent amount of reviewers saying it doesn't hold out. Still happy?
Good video! I have a problem with my unit. Everything comes out in mono. I wonder if my HA4700 is toasted. It's like there is a global mono mode switched on.
Never mind. The 1/8 to 1/4 adaptor works with 1/8 TRS only. The headphones with additional prong for microphone don't work - they short out the channels LOL
If you dont mind me asking what type of studio rack stand do you have?
Would this be applicable toward an audio interface, such as the scarlett 18i20? Just put the quarter inch into one of the headphone inputs on the interface and follow course?
Ben, from everything I can tell that should be fine. I just haven't personally done it.
Can you give me the link where you baught the quarter inch cable please?
Works Fantastic !!
thankx. you solved my problem
sir we have service center behringer here in Philippines?
Please I would like need advice. I have headphone amplifier Behringer HA6000 Which one exactly cable I can use for my audio inference Native Instruments KOMPLETE AUDIO 2 ? Because I would like working with them both.. Please send me link on amazon
What's the name of the cable that you used to hook it up with
So you're plugging headphones in the back of the unit but in the next step are plugging them into a headphone out on the front. ??? Are the identical I/O slots just one in front and one in back? What the benefit of that?
I have one that is over 10 years old. Do you know where I can get it serviced? I have a bad input control knob, and the headphone output of the 2nd channel is faulty. The Behringer website isn't very helpful with service centers.
Mine is same age. It had a good life. Now it hums loud and depending on movemnt of the headphones around desk I hear different radio signals.
Im tempted to just take it apart for the fun of it.
Good Video!
I would like to inquire whether the headphone amplifier signal from the front panel "Phones Out" function can be to share studio monitor? The control room would like to hear the anechoic chamber musical people, but in turn he hear me in the headphones.
In addition, "Main Out" LR section on the rear panel jack using a stereo cable must csatlakozatni the mixing console in the "Phones" out output?
Thank you in advance for your answer.
+Szabó Bence I'd like to help, but I have never tested or used it in that manner. Sorry about that. Not qualified to answer that.
mine is over 2yrs old its making bad hum and the last channel on the right has a weaker signal than the rest...hmm?
Hi Ryan, awesome video tutorials. I've been watching most of them today :) Do i need to purchase the headphone amplifier if its just me podcasting?
+screencast magazine Thanks and glad the video was helpful. You can get by just plugging your headphones right into your mixer.
Thanks for this video!!!
Your very welcome. Thanks for commenting!
just subscribed thank you man
Thanks for the sub!
Hi how are you, question please: i saw this video is for plug some kinda PODcast, So .. i wanna plug the same you did, and i have the same powerplay, but i will this way to play as a band, So, i have electronic drums TD-30 and will plug one guitar and bass and one mic. so, i got the mixer, TOFT ATB , so my question is.. if i plug like this way , do you think because the signal will be kinda strong, do you think it will burn my headphone mixer or damage the signal if gets to Hot? thanks! Ryan Urlacher
+James Tracy I've only used for podcasting and never in a band environment. sorry
What about impedance matching and minimum load per channel?
What about the auxillary input to blend in with the main mix, which is what the balance control is for.
The input level is a gain control to optimise the input level, not a volume control for the whole unit!!
Thanks for the video! OK Question: I have a stereo source and also a mono source so I need the stereo source into the MAIN IN like you have BUT IS there a place to plug also my other feed that is mono and have it in all the headphones too????
Details: I have an iPad stereo signal that is stereo LEFT is click track and RIGHT is music track. I also want to put 4 monitor mixes from the PA into this any ideas? kind of use it like an in-ear monitor system
On the front there is a 1/4 inch TRRS that all the banks will hear. Each individual bank also has a 1/4 inch TRRS input, to separate things.
On the back there is of course the L & R 1/4 inch TRS main in, which I have hooked up. You could also go in with a secondary course on the "main in" on the back via an XLR connection.
Ryan Urlacher TRRS? can I use a strait TRS?
Hey there, He have the 8 channel version. We are using this for five members. If there is nobody playing, there is a buzz sound. I do not hear that noise outside the headphone amp. Any idea where I can start looking at to fix this? Thanks.
Oh boy Josue, I can't tell you how I don't like to hear that. I had a humm noise a couple months ago in my studio. I had to completely gut everything and start from scratch. It can be a bunch of things and it is a process of elimination. I finally found out is was just one of my computers, but the others were fine. Sorry and good luck.
Josue I have the same exact issue and I fix it by changing the TS connectors to XLR connector. So make sure you have a 1/4 inch TRS into a dual XLR. If you need more help I can shoot you an email with a diagram as per how to make one.
Will
William Ofray I know! I went to buy the right cable and it worked!. Thanks
nice expalanation, plis explain how to setup you XR 4400
myshougun Not familiar with that. Sorry
Who can help me ? Is it possible to connect this amplifier with two arranger keyboards ?
sadly it is not that usable in a ham radio operator's shack. due to rf interference it give's a lot of noice, these are not that good shielded
Hi. i do sound at church (self taught ) I have keys on aux 3; drums aux 2 and vocals aux 1. we have the same model in your vid. i would like to know if i can plug the different aux in and have each aux going as if it was normal monitors
Sorry, I only use it for podcasting and not musical purposed.
K cool thanks
Hi, I kind of think that the main input in the HA4700 is a balanced mix. The aux inputs add an individual signal to the main mix for that particular channel, and the balance (when there is an aux signal) adjusts the volume of the aux in that channel. So, in the case of a podcast (and I am really unfamiliar with these standards), if all three mics are mixed together, but one of the people being interviewed wants his/her particular voice controlled individually, he/she would send that signal into their headphone channel aux and they would be able to mix their voice louder or quieter, as desired via the balance. In music, I believe it can be used similarly for monitoring, on top of the main mix coming in, via the aux channel.
yes. you'd run your aux mixes into the aux ins.
Can i run more than 4 headphones.?. Since there appears to be two outs on the back and another set of outs on the front??
You certainly could
Is this item for sale?
what can i find the headphone splitter
+Jermey Jones Here is a link Jeremy: amzn.to/1Pk0YTo
The only problem is that all 4 guys have to sit close enough to adjust their individual volume. That's why separate headphone controls next to each mike is better. Each one coming off the send of each channel.
Wifi or bluetooth and a device app could solve that issue
thank you
You're very welcome and thanks for watching.
Thank You
Patricia Dawson My pleasure Patricia. Take care!
i hooked it up with a single cable in 'Direct in'. you skipped that part, why?
+DJ Hoodbeats Not sure what you are taking about?
Jimmy Beam direct me to UA-cam
Wait....
So in the video he using the "headphone out" from the mixer and using a splitter for the input on the headphone amp.
Can I use left and right output from the mixer directly to the left and right input on the headphone amp?
jackmen4 :yep. or Control room outs. not exactly sure that the mixer's headphone amp should be driving anything other than headphones...
Hi
Thank you, nice explanation.
Your very welcome and super glad the video was helpuful
My pc sound outs are 3.5mm jacks.
Never done it that way, so I'm not sure I can be of help...sorry
You didnt really get into setting up stereo or mono for each channel, and you lost me on why you had some headphones hooked up to the back and yours hooked up on the front. What was the point? You were just showing that you can go out the front or the back?
Really. There are two jack outputs in the back but no words as to why. Also, the "balance" is NOT for left and right but as a mix for aux input and the main stereo. It's like he made a video before he read the manual.
Because maby the mic stands in the back so the cable doesnt get damaged
@@Jkaterchannel it seems you know the device, may I ask you is it possible to connect 4 different mixes and hear each one in each headphones using the aux in?
The major problem.................There is a “hum” noise
