However, if you run the vocals all to house left and the band all to house right speakers, won't half of the crowd not b able to hear much of the band and the other half not be able to hear the vocals?

how do I pan my channels for drums and other instruments that needed left and right panning if I end up using my pan knobs to separate my group faders?
You can divide them between group 1-2 and 3-4, and pan the groups left or right. You only get two groups that way, but they are in stereoooo! We used the same series mixer at our church and set groups 1-4 as lead, vocal, instruments, and drums. I preferred to add a bit of stereo width by sending lead/speaker straight to the mains, vocals to 1-2 and everything else to 3-4. I panned the odd groups hard left and the even groups hard right. Then I could pan the vocals and instruments _slightly_ to get a bit of variety between left and right instead of a monotonous wall of sound. I was probably the only one who could hear it, but I thought it sounded a bit better. (You don't want to go too wide in a live environment because you get problems with people on the far right not being able to hear what's been panned to the far left and vice versa.) The "extra sends" he used in his example can be accomplished through the Matrix sends. Each of those is a mix of the subgroups and mains.
Hi there everyone, I have doubts: I got lost from 9 Min mark regarding the camera and PC receiving the group outputs 3-4. How did they get the mics and instruments if they are on different input channels (5-8)? To clarify the speakers, the vocals would be on (for example) right speaker and instruments on the left speaker? could they not be combined?

Some sort of amplifier will be needed in your audio signal to drive your speakers. A powered mixer includes this amplifier as a component of the mixer which often makes them quite heavy. A powered mixer is meant to drive a passive speaker system (no amp built-in to the speaker). A mixer that does not include an amp will only send line level signals that need to be amplified. In this situation, there are two options 1) Passive speakers with a separate dedicated amplifier 2) Powered speakers (this means the speaker has its own built-in amplifier. So what makes people choose a particular system? For permanent installs, passive speakers (without built in amplifier) are typically used. In this situation you would need either a powered mixer or live mixer with a separate amplifier unit. This makes sense because the only connection to the speaker is a speaker cable. For mobile events, like weddings, DJs, powered speakers are often used because they are more convenient. Each speaker would need electric power and a speaker cable. In this situation a live mixer is sufficient. Depending upon what you are doing, a powered mixer is typically used for quick setups like a school assembly outdoors, or maybe a singer by themselves. For larger installs like an auditorium or club, a live mixer, amplifier and passive speakers is more typical.
On this series of mixers at least, if you want to maintain the left/right effect, you have to use a pair of groups. You’ll notice that on this particular mixer, each group assign includes a pair of channels, such as 1-2. Pressing that button sends that channel to BOTH of those groups in proportion to the panning. If the channel is panned full left, the entire signal goes to group 1, and panned full left it goes completely to group 2. Panned to the center, it goes equally to both. So to get a stereo effect, use a pair of groups. Pan the odd GROUP (not channel) full left and the even GROUP full right. Then the channel pan sets the channel’s position in the stereo mix. Note that this cuts your available groups, since each stereo group requires two channels. Hope this helps!

You want them both to be pre. The reason why is because when you use "pre" it means that you send the volume to the recorder or camera before the faders (volume controls) for the speakers. That way when you turn up stuff on the speakers, it wont effect the sound going to the recorder because the signal is being sent to the recorder before it reaches the fader. If it were post, the signal would reach the recorder after the faders for the speakers so that means if you turned up the fader for the speakers, it would also turn up and down the audio going to the recorder. Your recording would constantly be increasing and decreasing in volume instead of having a constant volume
Hi Marlon, I have one question. The group output for video and laptop, are they mono or stereo? I am using Allen and Heath ZED 428, is it better to use 2trk out instead? (just for the video camera?). You haven't talked about MATRIX 1 and 2, what are they? Thank you.

How do I maintain my stereo panning and grouping? For instance, if I pan my bass drum full left and my floor Toms full right for the LR or FOH. And I need to group my entire drum kit on Group1 in order to have a uniform volume control. That will require planning all to the left/ODD. Will the mixer still maintain my LR drum panning set up for the LR despite the group 1 ODD panning Or the group panning will affect the LR panning?
use 2 group channel to output your drum kit, e.g. Group 1 for L and Group 2 for R, then you can: use the group XLR output as is, on the matrix or send the groups (with pan) to LR

Basically you will need to monitor those mixes in some manner via headphones from the mixer or headphones at your streaming rig. Let me do some sample diagrams or descriptions and send them to you in a week or so. I will discuss this with our engineer. Currently our church is using a digital mixer that allows us to have multiple mixes. God bles

You can connect your sub woofers to the main depending on your application. You can comfortably give separate mix for in-ear monitors if you are using a P16-M or PM 16 when using a digital console.
With the P16-m every musician can mix whatever they want to hear in their in-ear monitors without affecting the stage mix or the FOH mix. But if you are using an analog console, it may be difficult to have a separate mix. You can only control what goes into each auxiliary by turning the aux knob on the channel strip

Hook up your in-ear monitor machine into aux 2 output then make sure your aux 2 master knob is opened. You can regulate what goes into your aux 2 by turning the aux 2 knob on the preferred channel strip

if you mean the input gain or trim knob at the top then start by looking up "gain staging" first setup channel gain/trim to appropriate working level, then use fader for your main mix
each channel contribute to the aux 5 bus or the aux 6 bus (yellow pot on each channel), at the aux5 or aux6 output you get a sum of all contributions, before further processing, it is called a dry signal then you take that summation, send it to the effects unit to process it, after processing it is now called a wet signal to combine the wet signal to original dry signal you send wet signal back in, one way is use a dedicated input channel inserts have unbalanced TRS plugs that carry 1 channel, tip = send (output), ring = return (input), sleeve = common ground reference, it is both input and output on 1 wire there are inserts at each input channel, each group and L, R (can be configured to be aux inserts)
use channel fader to adjust its contribution to the destination, whether it be LR or group (knobs for auxes), then you have master control (fader for LR and groups, again knobs for auxes) to adjust as a collection of channels routed to it group and auxes control and output (fader, knobs and sockets) can be reversed in certain models if desired

Sound Zone the best set up for any pa is to have active speakers, which basically have an amplifier built in. You haven’t got to worry then about additional power feeds and cables to the power amp then out to passive speakers.

I thought the same, if you are panning channels the you are likely to only hear that side! I have a Allen & Heath GL2400, so will have a look.

You can get a ¼inch jack to XLR cable either female or male, depending on your application.

if you mean the input gain or trim knob at the top then start by looking up "gain staging"
first setup channel gain/trim to appropriate working level, then use fader for your main mix

each channel contribute to the aux 5 bus or the aux 6 bus (yellow pot on each channel), at the aux5 or aux6 output you get a sum of all contributions, before further processing, it is called a dry signal
then you take that summation, send it to the effects unit to process it, after processing it is now called a wet signal
to combine the wet signal to original dry signal you send wet signal back in, one way is use a dedicated input channel
inserts have unbalanced TRS plugs that carry 1 channel, tip = send (output), ring = return (input), sleeve = common ground reference, it is both input and output on 1 wire
there are inserts at each input channel, each group and L, R (can be configured to be aux inserts)

How about the solo fader
use channel fader to adjust its contribution to the destination, whether it be LR or group (knobs for auxes), then you have master control (fader for LR and groups, again knobs for auxes) to adjust as a collection of channels routed to it
group and auxes control and output (fader, knobs and sockets) can be reversed in certain models if desired

Sir! One more question for u.... What is different.. In between .. Power mixer n power amp + live mixer. For passive speaker what best n why.... So my question is power mixer vs Power amp... N live mixer ... What is main differences beside high cost
Sound Zone the best set up for any pa is to have active speakers, which basically have an amplifier built in. You haven’t got to worry then about additional power feeds and cables to the power amp then out to passive speakers.
