So true. I did one and now I’m finishing my first year of med school this May. It’s like Dr. Webb said though, you have to look for one that has a linkage to their med school. That way your hard work pays off when you rank high in your class. However, if you’re not willing to give up almost everything, and dedicate yourself to being one of the best, you’re wasting your money.
Hey Dr. Webb, great video about Postbaccalaureate programs. Actually before medical school, I had the privilege to be apart of 2 different Postbacc programs, the first being a 1-year non-degree program part of the UC system and the second being a degree awarding 2- year program in Georgia. As a parent going through these Postbacc programs and now as first year medical student in Georgia, I can truly say I would not be where I am without the guidance and mentorship that I received from my Postbacc program advisors. So if your viewers have any questions about postbacc programs I would be happy to share my experience. Again love your videos and continue to share your journey.
The issue for older students is this. Your college GPA of a 3.0 from the early 2000’s won’t be good enough for the linkage programs. So you’re left with certificate programs with part time and adjunct professors so it’s very much self study. Getting an A in the science courses after 2 plus decades since you’ve seen chemistry in high school is a huge challenge
hey im also from GA and will possibly be beginning a postbacc at GSU (career changer). I was between GSU and agnes scott's program, but as GSU is about $400 less per credit, I went with GSU. I've done my research but have only found a few ppl online who have completed the program. Since you completed yours in GA, do you know anything about GSU's postbac? Any advice would be appreciated.
@@RealSamsonKing What do you think about online postback during this covid19? I have a BSN at GCU but most of my post-secondary education was overseas so I need a postbac. Which would you recommend?
My plans are to do a post-bacc program next year. I have wanted to become a doctor since I was a child. I truly believe that I will be taking the longest road there since I will be 53 when I start the post bacc program. My ultimate goal is to become an anesthesiologist. I am aware that it will take a goo 10 years since I am coming in with a Masters Degree. Have you ever hear of anyone starting their medical school career in their early 50's?
I’m applying to post-bac programs as a senior in college right now! Also applying to Georgetown, but not the master’s program, just the regular undergrad
So ironic that I was JUST looking into Georgetown U's postbacc program! It sounds super helpful in terms of courses and in terms of learning how to take tests, etc.
solomie ghebreegzabheir yes I believe you still have to take the MCAT. In my area, some schools will give you a sort of guaranteed conditional acceptance if you have good gpa and MCAT scores and go to their medical school!
Hi! I know you posted this comment so long ago, but I just stumbled upon this video. Is there any way I could message you and find out about your experience with a post bacc program? I personally don't have a science background and am aboiut to graduate undergrad in a few weeks, but now I'm thinking about transitioning into medicine (great timing, I know).
Thanks Doc Webb! I'm an active duty guy who's dream is to go to dental school and become a dentist. ETSing this summer so this is perfectly timed (I was an engineering major so need those life science classes)
Dr. Webb this video was ok, but you could also mention that Post Baccalaureate programs are also for people who already attained a Bachelor's in another field an are returning to focus on areas of sciences needed to get into medical school. It is designed for persons that may not have taken the essential courses in math and sciences that are required for medical school entry. Overall, the program is good for students of all ages and will be the roadmap leading towards medical school.
Once again, an awesome and informative video! I am finishing my last year of college soon and I am really considering a Post Bacc to make my application stronger. Could you make a video talking about the loans you took out, how you took them out, and the requirements you needed to take out loans? I've never taken out a loan so far(I'm a community college student who is transferring), but will be needing to really soon. How were you able to keep getting loans without repaying a lot for previous loans?
Dr. Webb, would you recommend a post bacc program for someone preparing for medical school who has a Bachelor's in Business? That's what I got, and am now doing science pre-recs at community college. Thank you as always!
I have M.A in philosophy, but I am considering, coming to medical school. I should note as an undergrad; I did not take any of the required classes for the MCAT. Should I consider doing a post baccalaureate program? Or would you recommend something else?
I'm currently in a post bacc program now and I thank you for this video. My advisor doesn't respond to emails, nor does she take meetings with us, so your channel is one of the channels I come to for guidance. You mentioned courses on test preparation and study strategies, where could I find these courses?
Hey Doc thanks for taking the time to share this info. I’m been looking through your content, and I don’t see anything about the new online post bacc programs. Can you share your thoughts on the legitimacy of these programs and if they will be respected as much as a traditional post bacc/masters program? Thanks
So did you have to take the classes you did in the postbac program again once you were in med school? didn't you go to the same med school you did the postbac program at?
If you do those classes with the medical school in postbacc do you earn credit? By this I mean do you have to repeat that same class when you get to med school? Shortening or lengthening your time in med school.
Old video I know but Doctor Webb would you mind telling me what made you choose Georgetown out of all your other options for Post bacc? I ask because in another video you made the comment that you wish you would have went to a cheaper school.
Lazaro Perez they calculate your sGPA (Science GPA) and your cGPA (Cumulative Gpa). So the answer would be yes. Some programs allow for grade replacement, others do not. If you have a weaker GPA it’s probably best to aim for a high MCAT score to settle the difference.
What do you do when you can’t get a private student loan because your credit is good but not good enough? And everyone you know doesn’t have good credit to co-sign?
Hi Dr. Webb, I’ve been doing some research on Ortho residencies and options to pay my medical school debt. I saw yesterday your plan on paying for your MD debt in 2 years with a specialty in spine surgery, it was great! But I happen to have a passion for orthopedic pediatric surgery and their income is almost half in comparison to a ortho spine sub specialist according to google/sources I researched, which makes it hard to pay 600k in MD school debt in the same period of time. Could you please help me understand why it works out this way even though it’s an ortho. surgery specialty?
Hello Dr. Webb I just want to first say I love your videos! I have a couple of questions though about post bacc programs. Is it a bad idea to go with a 1 year online post bacc certificate granting post bacc program? I guess I am also asking are there post bacc programs that are not accepted or regarded highly for medical school?
Hi Dr Webb, I'm a junior sociology major and have yet to finish my required science classes for medical school. I don't have enough time to complete those classes and the classes I need for my undergraduate degree, would a post baccalaureate program help me with that or would I need to take an alternative route first?
I've looked into that and yes it is cheaper but I think the difference is that you have to apply to med school on your own and research the qualifications on your own vs a post bacc like Dr. Webb mentioned offers a linkage program with automatic entry into that med-school.
Do I have to take the MCAT beforehand? My problem was my college major being Psychology, and then 2 years after working in psychiatry and then the medical office currently work at, I always end up wanting to go into the same field I wanted to be in the first place which is forensic pathology, which I fell in love with when I was 9. It’s been 19 years of me wanting to do this and I just can’t get that dream out of my head. I was in a controlling environment until 2 years ago as well so now that I’ve been out I’ve been just yearning to go back and follow my actual dream.
currently in nyc, at my second school finishing up my degree post military, prob gonna have to do one of these, hoping to get into one that has a direct linkage to an md school 😩

Very true!

What were your friends’ experiences with the program at Drexel? I was interested in applying for it for the next year. Thanks Dr. Webb!
I’m thinking about doing one of these. I did biomedical engineering so I had some of the background classes but it absolutely ruined my GPA

What is a DIY post Bach program?
Is it realistic to be able to work 20 hours per week as well attend a full time post bacc program?
I believe it might be possible, just a lot of dedication. I was considering a part-time, but still in the research stages. Hope all the best for you.

Not too familiar with online postbacs. I think in order to be accepted, it would have to be in classroom
*what about the post bacc programs that are suitable for those who have done a 4 year college with no or one science subject?*

Are there in post bacc schools that accept canadian students in your knowledge?
VCU accepts international students for their post bacc program :)
Can international graduates apply for the past bacc?
what do you think about doing a second bachelors degree?
If it will get you where you need to go, not always necessary though.

Holy WIDE screen. Please reformat this vid

You can google it on youtube... thankfully. Before finding dr Webb's videos (by accident) I never even know Post baccs existed.
Great!
are they 1 year post back program or are they usually 2-3 years ?
Both 1 and 2 year programs, rarely 3 year.
