Varian's death really saddened me.. He was by far my favourite lore character.. I suppose it was his time but man did I love the character they made out of him
Wilhelm Nummela I agree, I know Gul'dan is supposed to live for the expansion, but I really wanted Varian to stab him when he said "For the Alliance" *stab*
Varian died like a badass, Volj'iin died like a bitch. He got his ass kicked by a trash mob ffs!
Wilhelm I honestly like that he died, 1. Because the alliance needed a new king. 2. Because I am a Horde Player.
Wilhelm Nummela be happy how he was killed voljin was killed like a bitch by a was a very lore heavy person.
he lived for too many expansions tho. more than any warchief/king.
A King has fallen.
A father.
A friend.
A warrior.
Defender of the alliance. He.... was a beacon of hope! A Leader without measure. A man who would never accept defeat . He was our shield against the storm. Wherever he has gone, Varian Wrynn will remain a hero. Always.
King Varian was awesome i miss him!
Cant agree more ! For The Alliance!!❤️
Not totally agree Arthas was cooler and more badass... Tho it couldnt last long
That's Jaina narrating?
2:13:15 Oh
I was the one that made WoW check the charts of subs
4 years later, I still get chills watching Varian jump off to destory that Fel Reaver. The music swelling and the badass that is Varian creates such an epic moment.

Nobble senpaaii
Seriously is haha, I've see a lot of lore covers but Nobbel is the best. His voice makes the stories come alive. :D
Hey Nobbel87,Can you do the story of Anub'arak and the Great spider war
he already covered anub'arak in hearthstone lore, as for the war of the spider...if there's enough lore for it out there he'll have either done it already or will do it someday, who knows, up to him.
Rest in peace, you glorious beast of a man. You were one of the best leaders of Warcraft ever.
The death of Varian still saddens me every time I watch it... such an awesome character
I'd be your Varian
@@dinocha0s How is he gay?
yup. Blizzard keeps killing every badass manly character they have..it annoys me to no end

"For The Alliance" was such a powerful thing to say as his last words, mainly because in the Legion Cinematic, he says "For Azeroth".
And, sadly, Saurfang doesn't get to let his last words be "for the horde".
He says both in the cinematic
Thrall: "You disappoint me Garrosh... btw, can you hold this for me?"
*Hands Garrosh the Horde*
Vol'jiin: "I never trusted you"
*Hands Sylvanas the Horde*

Cairne should have always been Warchief. He was a warrior and a diplomat. I can see why they didn't want that tho because Cairne would have been able to unite the Horde and the Alliance.
I already know the story behind Varian but I really like your narration, and besides, I love to honor a great warrior/hero by re-listing to his legendary story. Thank you for sharing his great story to others.
I started playing in Legion, so never knew of Varian's story and his death on Broken Shore didn't really affect me. After watching this video in full though, it saddens me that I never knew this character while he was alive in WoW. Thanks for putting this together Nobbel
The editing for the Greyman/Varian chapter was excellent, I was totally drawn in and reflecting on my own hardships almost like I was doing the ritual myself. That's a real testament to what you've created and how far you've come as a storyteller. I hope you are using these skills in the real-world, the world will be better for it!

Varian was one of my favourites. The Legion trailer and the Broken Shore cinematics give me chills. This story was awesome, well done!
As a horde only player I never thought much about varian. I now have a new appreciation for his character. Great video even if it is old.
I think I have a problem I watched the full 3 hour lich king episode and now this one. I have spent 5 hours out of my day to watch nobbel 😂😂 it’s just soooo addicting. Your voice is so captivating and relaxing
OMFG NOBBEL ❤️’d MY COMMENT HOLY SHIT
This is wonderful. I started playing WoW one year before Legion was released, and got my first level 100 right when it was released. Of course I know the scene of his demise in Broken Shore, but I didn't how how great he is. His love to his countrymen, his battle with his inner self, and ultimately his love to his son. When he remember his son to the very end, oh it is incredibly sweet. Cried a little bit there, and this wasn't the 1st time I watched that broken shore video...
A king, a father, a hero, a warrior, a legend died with honor, and will be remembered as the king who gave his life for the alliance and Azeroth.
Legion started off so powerfully and strong, I always get choked up a bit by just how fantastic the story was.
When I saw the trailer for Varian in HOTS, I finally felt at peace with his death.
Same here my dude
why, they basically sent him to hell, kinda messed up if u ask me. Drinkin it up with Odyn would have been more proper.
@pyropulse Everyone we have killed since Legion (or maybe even earlier) is sent to hell. The maw or whatever it is called in Shadowlands. That will be our mission. Free shadowlands.

Imagine if Sylvanas just stuck her head over the edge of the cliff and shouted for the Alliance to retreat
Too many problems would've been solved that day had she done that.
@@user-vr8ve6rt9c I know. tbh by this point in the story Blizzard is practically manufacturing conflict by making the character unrealistically stupid
1/ That retreat was not planed. It's a quick decision. Sylvanas didn't tried to retreat even when Horde was out number, she did it only after Voljin down.
2/ The horn is much louder than her banshe voice and Alliance also knew what signal is it.
It is Alliance fail because they didn't have back up plan. While Horde have their ship ready at the shore if things go wrong.
@M. Woller
Even if that golem attack the Horde, they are still on the ground/water, they have a solid place to regroup and fight. But in Alliance case, they were on mid air, their soldier was useless trying not to fall as you can see in the cinematic.
No better way to spend Single Awareness Day than by watching lore videos.
about a character in an MMO that you play alone in your room :P
The heroes of the Storm Trailer is such a proper send off to Varian
The cinematic at the broken shore was a perfect sendoff already
I cried ;-;
The narration could of used better writing
@@KristofThePaladin dude stfu, u couldnt do half as good
When I first saw that trailers there were ninjas cutting onions nearby :(
I like how you used the upper part of the good old Warcraft 3 interface at 6:52
...And now, with the news that warcraft 3 will eventually get a remastered, this is just awesome. I also want to thank you, because i am also a total Lore-nerd and the warcraft and WoW Lore is (at this time) so extremely filled with all kinds of Stories.
Everytime i watch your videos, i feel like a poor hungry boy, who walked right into a shop filled with candy and the most delicious food and everywhere are signs with the words "For free!" on them.
...You could say, that i actually "devour" stories and Lore about Games, movies (and some tv shows).
So again: thank you! For the opportunity to satisfy my inner Lore-hungry boy.
...Yes i know, i am not the only one who thinks like that, but i thought it could atleast be in some way respectful to give you something back in return, even if it is just another "positive Feedback"-comment.
That moment when Nobbel makes a movie about Varian.
That's better than the other warcraft movie
Livingvapour i feel myself watching anime when it comes to varian
Agreed. I have the same feeling when I watch the lore vids of famous characters, Illidan, Jaina, Varian & Arthas are some of my favorite characters in the Warcraft universe ^^
While I did enjoy the Warcraft movie for what it was, a rather nice movie, but the correct lore is awesome ^^
Anyone else during the anduin and varian moments think that it. Gets a little gay and cheesy especially with nobbell reading it
Вы все тут по английски пишите ?
2:12:18 yep, thats it. joining alliance
I like how he scrapes the blades together when the next batch of demons come up and they get spooked and take a step back.
And then Anduin just let's the Kaldorei be slaughtered by the Horde without stirring a finger.
This was wonderful to watch, getting to see his whole life in one video and understanding everything that happened to him. He truly is an amazing character in the story of it all. One of my favourites. Nobbel told the story perfectly :)
Guldan: "You will be remembered as the King who sacrificed himself for nothing...."
Varian: "For the Alliance!"

Exactly for nothing what bitch and a bitch way to die to a gimpy old man
Anduin still needs to learn that fighting is sometimes the only way.
But even as a child he showed more wisdom than most of the adults around him & stopped his farther from making a horrible mistake many times.
He is going to make a great king, I know it.
Found the Forsaken player!
Holy shit, dude. It's just a video game.
Faolan Hart {Animal Above The Man} i mean hes a paladin healer what do u expect 🤣
what about retpal ? they seek retribution sort of vengeance even if not for yourself
Vgpl0 Sorry to revive this thread, but seriously? He was just making a joke about the stereotype that all Forsaken players are cynical jackoffs, you then in turn go on a tangent over one comment? That seems more like troll behavior. Maybe try not to get upset over a comment?
I honestly love that anduin has been a brilliant strategist and diplomat since he was a child :D
Cool. Anduin is good with the light magic, so he lends himself to a more defensive role. That however doesn't make him any less of a hero. Priests and paladins alike are both awesome. I am not exactly sure what Anduin's class is. My best guess is priest. This is different from Varian, who is significantly more aggressive.
I get that Anduin Wrynn has a bigger role to play in the grand scheme of things but Varian's death still makes me mad.
Three years later, same. Such a great hero. Hoping he somehow makes an appearance in the Shadowlands.

You have done such awesome work with the full lore version. Incredible! And sooo nostalgic.
varian...dying...again...nobbel...you made me watch it again....i cry...
The best part about this whole 2 hour video was Anduin and Varian being voice acted by Nobbel "both big and small". Loved it!!
My father taught me many things; strength, devotion, courage, but the most important thing he taught me was sacrifice. Without his sacrifice, the Alliance wouldn't have survived and our world wouldn't have been saved. His actions will echo throughout the ages and his roar will strike fear into our greatest adversaries.
@Ivore Surkuri yo i'm a horde loyalist but you right
Hey man I've been watching your lore videos for some time now and I hope you don't find this in anyway offensive but your voice has become MUCH clearer since you first started and that's awesome because it's all about growth and you've done it. Keep up the amazing content. Thanks again!
Yay I have been dieing to watch these. I enjoy watching the long versions like a movie with my girlfriend. after I make her her favorite dinner tonight this will be wonderful

alex dipsydoedoe True. My parents really love playing WoW with each other.
So do my grandparents. My family is all messed up.
I find this to be pretty cool. Wished my family joined me on WoW when i was playing. Want to get back to join in as Horde (got bored with Alliance in my server), and find my friends. Really miss da time in Azeroth, mon...
R.I.P. High King of the Alliance. Many still misses you, even me from the Horde side.
I play both factions though I am Alliance at heart. There are only two aspects of Varian's death that have given me some comfort. One is that Blizzard gave him a heroic death. The other is the shared regret from Horde players for this Alliance king. Its the one and only occasion that I've seen horde players step across the faction line. I played the horde side on the Broken Shore so I've always known the Horde retreat was necessary and not betrayal. I don't blame Horde for Varian's death. I don't even blame Gul'dan. I blame Blizzard. I have met noble and honorable players on the Horde side so I find it a sorrow that Blizzard has not given Horde a worthy leader in too long a time.
@@valkyriesardo278 there were worthy leaders there, but they were sacrificed to the Gods of Awful Storytelling. Goodbye Cairne, we needed to show the world that there were those strong enough to stand against Garrosh but not really and Garrosh cheated but not really and Cairne still had to die to further the Grimtotem storyline for no reason and never crops up again...
Or Sylvanus, an anti hero with joint connections to the Alliance and Horde, Forsaken and Scourge, personal loss and the strength to lead a kingdom, perhaps a joint nation.
Except she hates everyone and everything has to die now mwa ha ha I'm so evil but maybe not? Just kidding find out next week!

After weeks I finally finished this. This was incredible man. Thank you so much for this.
Thank you lorewalker Nobbel for another amazing set of lore videos!
I love to listen to your videos while I am playing the game we all know and love.
Thanks again, from a happy Adventurer
Awesome that you put this all together...still kind of throws me off, every time I blink throughout parts of the video, I think a week has gone by! o_o;;
goosebumps when he tells guldan "for the alliance"
MORE people need to know how badass he was! This was one of the best parts of lore yet ;-;
Varian's story as a gladiator sounds like an amazing concept for an animated series
Varian was my favorite lore character of all time. RIP king of Stormwind 💔
Wow... I love your narrations! I loved learning even more about Varian, and in 2019 we got Classic for me to replay Alliance. Knowing so much more this time around, I can truly appreciate this fantastic game full of lore!
Been listening yo nobbel the last few days, his voice is so easy to listen too and his pronunciations are spot on and you gotta love the "hellooo everyone" at the start of each video
1:04:18 "he didnt make Lordaeron pay for the wall" priceless
I'll never forget when I first saw the king die. Man so powerful and emotional. Legion was an incredible expansion
What a great video. Thanks for clarifying the past of this nobel hearted warrior!
And still gettin shivers, when Varian plunges down to beat up the Felreaver.
I'm probably not gonna finish the full video as it is over 2 hours long and I don't even play WoW, but props to you for putting so much effort into it, I'm sure the lore guys love it.
i had to go watch Gul'dan getting a taste of his own medicine from Illidan so i could get the feeling of revenge out of the system :P
Great video though, Varians story is a masterpiece and you taking your time to cover it all from start to end is amazing! God job!
They really should bring back that Battle for the Undercity quest. I think it really is one of the greatest quests the history of this game. I would re-roll alts just to do that quest again.
Greymane: "Building a wall and a keep to watch over the Dark Portal is a waste of gold! We'll have no part in it!"
Also Greymane: "Let's build a big wall to keep out the Scourge!"
*visible confusion*
I really, really loved this. Thank you. (I'm not crying, you're crying)
It explains how we have bias for the alliance and bias for the horde when the perspective of who starts fights against who with what majority of troops changes depending on which side of the raid you're on.
Time stamp 1:36:00
Why is it every time we see Tyrande, she is impatient and angry? She's over 10,000 years old and hasn't learned patience, tactics, and strategy as well as a 40 ish year old human?
I can't believe i watch the entire piece. Very well done Nobbel. Always a Horde player, but Varian was a true and honorable warrior.
If Varian hadn't been disenchanted by Gul'dan imagine how awesome it would be if he was one of the four horsemen.
Omg yes. And then after legion a death knight variant wrynn would become king. And variant wrynn in BFA and Shadowlands. That would actually be awesome.
A summary of WoW lore:
-Alliance: begrudgingly trusts horde
-Horde: betrays the Alliance
-Rinse and repeat
Came here just to leave a like, since I've watched all separate vids. Keep up the good work man!
Legion cut scene varian was the most epic moment for him, he was so badass.
Very nice work Nobbel. This is really awesome. Thank you
I really enjoyed this vid and actually learned a lot of life that I was missing. Thank you
Do we know, why Broll Bearmantle and Valeera Sanguinar are absent at his funeral?
I think blizzard forget the exsisted
They were busy boning
varians death will never not give the chills,it makes me proud to be part of the alliance!!
I love how Jaina and Varian are having a serious conversation then thomas the altar boy just walks by
Ah, the Legion cinematics, where Sylvanas was just an archer, who could maybe enchant her own arrows at most, but just a mere archer, and the world made sense.
Justice for our boy Bolvar, and justice for the Helm of Domination!
I just love the animation of Anduin and Varian yelling silently while twisting their heads around randomly at 1:30:00 :P
Wonderfull video, great job on the editing of the cinematics!
Varian is perhaps the finest example of what video games and cross-medium storytelling can achieve and definitely one of my favourite character in all video games. He started from nothing and we didn't even know his name for many chapters of the comic and I think that's what really connected him with people. Players before WoD were also nameless adventurers seeing a story from essentially our perspective was something that many other lore characters aren't granted. I'd say only Thrall comes close and even he started leading his race by the time we got to play as him and many other heroes like Jaina and Arthas were already royalty, important in lore and extremely strong fighters. But Varian, he was just grumpy and skilled warrior and in WoW lore that really doesn't tell much. And then seeing him then grow into one of the most important and nuanced characters of the game over the years felt so satisfying and earned as in our eyes he wasn't given his status, he fought for it. That paralleled with our increasing status in the lore and contrasted another lore figure who essentially started from zero at the same time: Garrosh. We saw what made Varian the just and wise leader he became just like we saw Garrosh being given that status way too soon and then witnessed him falling from grace. And it was nice to see that during MoP most of that happened in game, not just in books and comics and unlike Thrall in Cata, his presence wasn't so intrusive. His decisions gave alliance players chance for the victory but we still got to fight our battles, not just buy him time to gather Spirit Bomb for the final blow like with Deathwing.
It's hard to balance friendly NPCs role in western RPG so that they are important for the player, not just someone who reads books/comics but at the same time won't steal the spotlight and imo Varian nailed that sweet spot perfectly. I'd say that Blizzard has mastered that art with in BfA's faction war, but I think Varian was what set that example for Blizzard.
these lore vids are great just sometimes he hits them sentences so fast with that accent and i got to rewind it a few times to understand lol. like what does he say at 4:49 about "the boy was left in character in his son Arthas" or somthing lol
Best channel too find lore about warcraft
Varian is still with us. We breath bits of him at all times.
When the second duel was interrupted Garrosh was disarmed I remind you, the magnataur saved him quite literally. In the third duel he was better and more confident, but so was Varian, the duel wasnt interrupted exactly, Varian stroke at Garrosh, he parried and the ground (ship debris) bellow Garrosh was destroyed causing Garrosh to fall into the sea, form which Malkorok kinda pulled him out.
Oh also Garrosh decided that he will take over Kalimdor after his first loss to Varian, he went berserk and his Korkron had to pull him back, the duels outcome basically made him snap.
Rrrrrrreally well done sirrrrrrrrrrr.
Jokes aside this was a very well done vid. 👌
Magnificient. Great job, Nobbel.
If Anduin becomes anything of significance, it will be because of Varian. I've been into Warcraft since orcs and humans in the 90s when I was super young, and Varian is the most decorated war hero the humans have ever had, other than Lothar or Uther. But he's definitely the most bad ass. I cried a little when he died, but I know Anduin will be capable of next level warrior shit eventually. I can't wait for that day. Great video Nobble!
I was doing okay and enjoying myself until Varian died again before my eyes and once again the tears flowed...I want my King back /cry
yknow i never thought a lore video would make me tear up
Is it just me or Jaina sounds like an old god whispering in Varian's ear?
"People running over eggs" went so smoothly into that whole arc of a story... :D
Arthas: I HATE YOU!!
Varian: You were more like a brother arthas we love you!!!
Lich king/arthas: AAAHHH
That was the one fuck up with the ICC campaign. Varian should have been interacting with Arthas. Imagine if the had even a brief face off at the Tournament.
I’ve been doing icc on warmane for years now but i had never took the time to watch this saurfang cinematic so thanks lol
A little update to Anduin and the divine bell:
In the novel “Before The Storm” Anduin says that the divine bell gave him a sort of enhanced gut feeling, so he feels pain when someone can’t be trusted. That’s what I remember but it might be different.
Good job on this, love your content! thanks for all you do Nobbel87
Man what a great video I really enjoyed this wish i could have liked the video more than once
I've been playing wow for over 10 years and have been invested in the cinematics and story; I even played through all of Warlords. Yet, somehow I've never seen the cinematic with Varian and Maraad talking about the Iron Horde and war, and I have to say that was some excellent dialogue.
She might have gotten away with it too if it was not for those meddling naga!
22:27 "Her HAT is then put on display for all of Stormwind to see" If only Onyxia had a hat :D !
I never saw the Varian / Rag cinematic for HotS so cool!
I actually cried at the end (again).... 😃😭
That part when varian drove the orcs out of the pandarian temple was dope.
Also Tyrande paid respects to him. My king!!
I love your videos! I listen to them while I play. 😁
you are best storyteller i have seen in my life. Even much better then Lorewalker Cho :)
dude the editing on this video must have been insane
45:40 it is stuff like this that really makes me wish we could have an expansion that properly bridges the gap between horde and alliance where we fight together and defeat an old god or other gigantic threat. Then we could introduce that expansion or the next as a new faction to fight together against. I have really enjoyed fighting the alliance as horde and horde as alliance but there have been so many characters that I would have loved to see interact or grow and develop but get cutdown by members of one side or the other that think themselves above a treaty between them and the other faction. Honestly this is especially true IMO about Orc characters that were so great, fun, and lovable but die from the conflict.
>playing on a private server pre-legion so I can stay with my King
“He didn’t make them pay for the wall”😂 Nice. Very nice.
Even in his last moments, Varian did, what a king must do.
