You’re giving us viewers gold here. All the tips and tricks you can’t learn from a book. Things that take time and years of experience to master. Thanks for sharing it all with us!
You're welcome Fireship. All things that really good body guys showed me when I struggled to get something straight. They'd say, "Still working on that?" "Try this...." Thanks for always watching Fireship - I appreciate the kind words and support my friend ✌
Appreciate these videos more than you could know. Now that I can weld sheet steel halfway decent I won't need foil tape to cover rust holes and can do the repair the right way.
You're welcome - glad they helped you out. Have a great weekend my friend :)
@@LakesideAutobody You as well.
Great explanation and demonstration Jerry, another great video my friend!…enjoy your week👍🏾
You too UPK ✌
As usual Jerry, You make that look so easy, really enjoy watching You work.
That was really good info on how to pick the right sanding blocks for the job! Thanks
You're welcome Terry - glad you could use the information :)
you are underestimated legend , no body else will deliver in a such a manner. well done.
I really appreciate that Hashmat - it's good to hear kind words like that now and then. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope to upload many more. Have a good weekend my friend ✌
Great video as always. I was wondering if you could do a video just like this only covering convex and concave shapes. These have always given me headaches as a novice in the past.
YES JERRY... detailed coverage on concave convex and "tray" shaped depressed body lines (05-14 f150 lower end of entire truck side) please sir! 🤙🇺🇸🙏
Very good instructions. I think even I could follow them! (And you know me...)
Hello Jerry I always love and enjoy watching your video you don't have no idea how much you and your videos come to my mind when I am working on my firebirds and doing Body work It's a beautiful art not very easy some people will not even imagine but with hard work dedication and a whole lot of practice I feel so positive and doing it myself I even have Done others people classic cars thank you very much my friend for sharing your knowledge and skills
Thanks so much Luis for the kind works - that makes my day - really. Even though sometimes it can be hard work, there's nothing better than taking the tape off of a finished repair, washing and cleaning it up. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress on those firebirds my friend - have a great weekend and you are very welcome ✌
Great info Jerry, car looks good bud 👍👍
Thanks PAS - I appreciate the support my friend :)
@@LakesideAutobody Credit where credit is due , you got dem mad skills 😁😁
That was brilliant. Just what i needed to see.
Good to hear :)
Simple and straight to the point. Love these videos
Excellent video Jerry!!! I will be using what I have learned from you on my project car. All the best to you and your family.
Same to you Bluesman - would love to get out there but been really busy lately. My son wants to start buying wrecks, fixing and selling so we've been really focused on that - that's what this 3000GT is - tryin' to find his niche 😊✌
Master at his craft 👍👍
Thanks for the kind words Eddie - have a good weekend my friend 🛠
Nice job, thank you for taking the time to share your skills.
You're welcome Tom - thanks for the support my friend 🛠🛠
Awesome video Jerry, thx, have a great weekend

nice technique. thanks for sharing
You're welcome Wes - have a good weekend my friend ✌
I have now guide coated & block sanded away any guide coat area w 220 grit. 68 Camaro quarter panel. Don’t know how to send a picture but some splotchy areas where bindi shows through-hopefully no problem.
1. What are my next steps sequentially?
2. How do I know when I’m ready for paint?
Can’t tell you how much I enjoy watching you super helpful & instructive posts!! Thx.
Send pics to schoolvideolibrary @ gmail dot com if you want - I'll check them out as soon as I get them. Are you saying the Bondo is showing through in some areas? If so, that's no problem. Once you are happy with your block sanding, prime it one more time with some thin primer, finish sand with 240-320 DA or 320-400 wet/dry sand paper and you are ready to paint. Scuff or DA any shiny paint that is going to get coated, tape/mask and you are ready to go. Let me know if you have more ?s - Jerry :)
@@LakesideAutobody Thanks so much. Will send a photo. MUCH appreciate you.
That guide coat, sure reveals every little dip. 👍Tony B
It does help for sure - it's very honest :)
awesome! Thanks for all your hard work and patience!
You're welcome - have a good weekend my friend :)
Great info video thanks for sharing
You're welcome Sergio :)
Love the video. So helpful. The glazing putty I am using is hard to sand ?? What brand do you use?
Bondo Glazing and Spot Putty, 00907ES or similar - dries super fast, don't have to mix it, super super easy to sand. Folks laugh at this type of putty but before the 90's this is all there was. As long as you don't over do it and use it the way it was intended to be used you'll have no problems.
@@LakesideAutobody Thanks Jerry. I do use it. I use Canadian Tire brand. It dries very quick
@@pstreetgarage7304 I always used to see those Canadian Tire adds when I watch Hockey Night in Canada. HNC rules when it comes to televising hockey - best announcers, camera angles, etc. I don't get the channel now that I moved up north in Michigan - used to get it in Detroit - good times watching playoff hockey on CBC 😢
@@LakesideAutobody Yes I agree !
@@pstreetgarage7304 It's a shame we don't get to see Don Cherry's nice suits anymore - what a character he was - cocky but fun to listen to :)

@@LakesideAutobody thanks you too!
Happy hump day, good sir. Hope it's a good one for ya. Today I painted my truck's hood. I didn't block sand because it looked blemish free. Then I sprayed it with Speedokote Hotrod Black and 5 dings came out of nowhere! And several bugs flew into the paint. I'm wondering what you do with single stage paint and defects. Just sand the bugs out and do a touch up spray and try to ignore the little dings? It's just a work truck so not a big deal but just curious what a pro would do... 😊
Just like you said ignore the dings and do the best you can with the bugs. I'd lightly wet sand them with 800 then 1000 and buff. I'd ignore what's left of them too! Like ol' Winston Churchill said, "Perfection is the enemy of progress” or "Perfection is the enemy of completion" - something like that 🥴
@@LakesideAutobody I'm not sure you can buff satin black, can you?
@@designsinorbit No you can't - sorry. Maybe get it outside first and see what it looks like before you go and try to touch it up. Trying to touch things up can sometimes mess it up worse. let me know what you end up doing :)
Do you differentiate between high build primer filler (eg, Duplicolor rattle can) & primer surfacer. If so, do you know of any primer surfacer in rattle cans? Thx. I learn so much from your gracious sharing of expertise.
I don't think you'll ever find primer surfacer in a rattle can that builds thickness like automotive grade primer that you spray with a gun. That being said though, maybe Eastwood, SEM, or other big names in auto body supply would make one that comes real close. I'm writing this down as it's a good topic to do a video on. Thanks for the question and you're very welcome - have a great weekend my friend :)
I use the duplicolor high build in a spay can for small spots. Three coats. It works would love to see a comparison video.
@@tdematteo01 OK - I'll check that out and do a comparison video on a few of them. Thanks my friend :)
Thank you . Much apreciated.
👍✌
Another Great video
Glad you enjoyed it Brad - have a good weekend my friend 😊
Great instruction Jerry….what brand sand paper you recommend for the blocks
I use Indasa rolls sticky or non sticky. I've had very good luck buying inexpensive brand sand paper rolls on Ebay. Here's an example - www.ebay.com/itm/125592884948?epid=1730002440&hash=item1d3deb56d4:g:XqMAAOSwiiVbu573&amdata
OK so it doesn’t matter what type of sandpaper you use, whether it’s silicone, carbide, aluminum oxide, etc.?
Not really. I've had very good luck with all brands and types. I like sharp paper so it's not really how long it lasts as I use a new piece very often. I throw the used stuff in a box and any time I'm need a quick piece for this or that - bingo :) TEMU has cheap paper and it works well along with EBAY, AMAZON, etc. If you like it - keep ordering it :)
I still can't believe how well those came out. Do you take on outside work?
Right now I'm pretty backed up with some cars I picked up from the auction and reviews. What are you working on?
@@LakesideAutobody I'm reskinning the roof on one of my cars, and fixing a few minor dents. But it has a couple issues that are beyond me. Mainly, the pinch weld on the bottom was used as a jacking point by the previous owner (all down both sides). I don't really have the gear to straighten it, and the front door gap is tight at the bottom, and I'm not sure if the unibody is tweaked or not.
@@jayinmi3706 Got it. I'd have to take a look at it to maybe offer a few ideas to fix both. If you want, you can send a few pictures to schoolvideolibrary at gmail dot com - Jerry
Do you use glazing putty that requires a hardener? Or is the extra step to mix it just not worth the effort? I guess I'm asking what the difference is, lol!
1K glazing/spot putty like I use out of the tube is for very minor imperfections. Anything bigger, I just use regular filler. It's a personal preference thing although 2K glazing putty is going to be an extra expense that is not needed. Do all you body work nearly perfect, prime it and any tiny imperfections can be taken care of with old fashioned putty w/o hardener. That's all they had for most of the 20th century and it was fine :)
@@LakesideAutobody That's a great point, thanks :)
Where do you get the sandpaper for the longboard style sanding board? Is it sold at harbor freight?
I usually look for the best deal on Ebay. TPTools or TCP Global has good deals on sandpaper too. Indasa and Mirka brand sandpaper is really good stuff off of ebay or amazon
Hey, I just noticed you weren't using the 3m gun for the primer...?
It's all I use for primers now although I have the cheaper accuspray version.
I love the 3M gun but just saving the lids, liners and tips for paint - gotta get the "cheap" out of myself somehow :)
How many coats of primer do you have on before you started block sanding?
Two to three wet coats of automotive grade primer surfacer mixed a bit on the thick side - here's a video on mixing it if needed - ua-cam.com/video/zIzBi2I-N1U/v-deo.html Hope that helps. If not ask more ?s - Jerry
thank n you

New subscriber here, your videos and work are fantastic. Also, I need to know where your intro guitar clips are from?
Thanks Mike - I appreciate the sub - glad you like the videos. I make up and play the intros. Feel free to ask any questions on any video - doesn't have to relate either - I get to them 1-2 times a day - Jerry :)
@@LakesideAutobody that’s awesome, I figured you might be making those yourself. They sound good! Love that classic metal sound.
@@mtg_tsla Thanks Mike - I grew up on 80's metal - good times :)
@@LakesideAutobody Hello my friend! Please tell me where you got your wooden block?
@@DZ32100 All of the tools are listed in the description but you I think you may be talking about the medium length board and that one is a Keysco 77526 10 or 11 inch board 😊
Jerry, I spent the weekend apply the high-build primer /surfacer to the 70 chevy C10- I used a 2.0 tip at 25-30psi and it was all I could do to get the primer out of the gun- this product PPG OMNI MP282 ALONG WITH MED. HARDENER AT 60 DEGREES- LOOKS MORe LIKE EPOXY PRIMER THE TEXTURE IS TERRIBLE-I will block sand and let you know how its going- I say that like you have nothing better to do than assist me with your knowledge -time is irreplaceable, your friend, PJP
Try reducing it w/ MR186 Medium or something similar. The primer I buy is way to thick to spray right out of the can - I'll bet I end up mixing it 1:1 with reducer if 2K and/or thinner if lacquer primer :)
@@LakesideAutobody -Thanks Jerry, Ill try not wearing out my welcome PATRICK.P
@@patrickpeterman8736 No worries my friend - keep asking ?s - helps others out too that read it :)
What your grit 80 thanks
This is what I use for the 80 grit on a long board - www.ebay.com/itm/143632745929 For DA, I use Mirka and for the hog I use Benchmark Abrasives - benchmarkabrasives.com/collections/psa-discs
Hi Jerry, Loved the video! I do have a question. Do you ever use a straight line air sander? Thanks Dan
Yes - but usually on long rectangular areas and only for filler sanding. Never really used it for blocking primer surfacer although it's not wrong to do so if you wanted to :)
@@LakesideAutobody Yes my mistake only for fillers. Only doing primer here :) Thanks!!
@@Danno74Z Good question actually. Feel free to ask anything you are wondering about my friend. Thanks and you're welcome my friend ✌
Great video! What primer were you working on?
Lacquer primer surfacer from Auto Body Master. Any primer surfacer will work fine - lacquer, urethane or polyester :)

Good body man and a good tutorial but why are you still using red spot puddy ? Takes forever to set up sands awful and shrinks terribly I didn’t even know They still sold nitro Stan puddy so 70s technology.
The 2K stuff works real well too but for really quick fills before you go in for the day - I like this stuff. For me, it does dry fast, sands easy and actually, if used sparingly doesn't shrink. Before the 90's this is all there was. Revisit the stuff and use just a tiny bit and you'll fall in love with it - I promise 😊✌
im way out of my league if 10 inches is a medium, dont ban me ,please
