Awesome experience .. 👏 Just add stiffness to the rear roll bar ..and you should find better balance .. I learned that from sim, GT Sport driving ..LoL
No doubt this channel is going to make it big someday, I think you've reached that critical mass before subscribers start to snowball. Content & production quality just keeps getting better and better. Curious how your black FD (and project FD?) is doing. I always miss the live broadcasts whenever they happen but it seems like ages since you have touched on the RX-7, which is my favorite of your cars. I want to track my single turbo car but I was wondering what kind of reliability mods you really think are necessary to clown around on it. I see you've got a fan on top of your intercooler and I would personally love to get your perspective on a single turbo deep dive, as that's what I have too. My RX-7 is my favorite, but I'm afraid I'll blow it up if I push it too much even though I always have an eye on the temps and I'm anal about maintenance.
Thanks Steve. The biggest things for cooling would be a good Vmount setup with ducting and dual oil coolers. The intercooler fan doesn't make or break anything
Slip angle is back on the track where they belong. I am glad to see the slip angle back with videos with on the track reviews. I would like to see your rx8 on the track setup as a comparison. I would also like to see the others cars tested in the past on this track setup. Of course I would love to see the FD back on this track. Warning this is no ricer channel. Thank you for the video and as for me, I like my rx8 with served with some brap brap.
I would like to see a track act, or touge battle between your rx8 with rotary vs this V6 swap version, to see which one is better, on a big to medium sized track.
I really wanted to do this swap, but the more I have looked into it the more I am weary. The Kiesler kit seems to have a lot of electrical issues and the Camaro rear diff seems to not lock up great. The V8R kit using the NC steering rack seems like the best & most complicated option...
What electrical issues in an RX-8 LFX swap have you come across, any links to those? I've looked around and haven't seen anyone with this swap have electrical qualms. There really isn't much to it, as most of the chassis stuff remains stock while the LFX gets its own ecu harness... Any details would be appreciated.
man its hard to find the weight of a 20B haha so many posts on forums. but from what i can find a n/a 20B is in the 335lb range and a chevy LFX is around 370lbs. so depending on accessories or aftermarket parts id say a 20B could be lighter but not sure on the chevy thing, mostly found info on 20B vs LS1 etc comparisons. stay rotary FTW!
The weight would be close with a stripped N/A 20b i.e. no turbo and ancillaries but the 20b would sit lower and farther back helping keep the inherit front mid-ship characteristics of the RX-8.
Great show once again! Thanks for sharing. Did you notice that seatbelt rubbing on your neck? You don't realize it, but that is what's bothering your neck. LOL
Fab vid As always Quinn, I've always put 4.3 diffs on my V6's makes them come alive, maybe a wide angle steering kit would make it better when your sideways 😉
The rear end ratio would be heavily dependent on the gears in the transmission. S1 RX-8s came with 4.44 and S2 came with 4.77s. I don't know what the final drive is in the Camaro diff on this car.
@a0101110101110101010 i've tried that already but no response back and it doesnt look like he's posted in a while. I'm glad to hear he's still building them though! Now i Just need to get a hold of him somehow. lol
So all in all, decent swap, good accessibility. its a good way to keep the car alive and have someone enjoy it.. not for guys like us who want to keep the midship balance and that sweet sweet gearbox.... so.... 2.5 miata swap? ;) with ITBS!
@@TheSlipAngle we* will find out XD I'll be following closely I even seen a hybrid rx8 rotor'd 13B turbo with the older fd housings and it ripped hard.
omfg was that a Noble M12? I was literally looking at one the other day, I really hope the prices arent gonna go up. Probably top 5 supercars I would buy.
Nice work, that does look like a fun way to move it around..your track vids are a delicacy. I want to get your opinion amd hear your experience with NOS . And your thoughts on an rx8 13b runnin it (wet vs. Dry?) In a very conservative mannerit seems like it could round out the acceleration out the top of 5th and make 6th gear seem more legitimate. I have only run shots a hanful of time when it came equipped on a beater firebird i bought for parts. It was fun, then it was just scary, the car was trashed, and handled like it had randomly occuring flat tires.on the passenger front and rear when turning above 50mph.A bottle on a straight line big V8 car is scary fun, but seamed overkill to me. But it has been on my mind for s while now , could it fit into a stock rx8 perhaps with a programmed triggering setup? "Could it be goldilocks style? Or horse shoes and hand granades?
I don't have any experience running nitrous on the RX-8. I would presume it would require tuning with increase in fuel and retardation of ignition timing pending on how big of the shot.
Really great videos. Would like to see these cars your testing with at least sport tyres fitted , because I think they deserve it. Money doesn't come from trees. What's your take on penske socks? I went with Ohlins for my S2000.
comparatively not the same level. the penske are motorsports grade racing shocks with excellent internals. Not saying ohlins are bad but the adjusters are no way as accurate and the damping is not as good.
I'd rather just have the Miata's 2.0 and put a supercharger on it. I feel like I could achieve 250-260 wheel pretty handily without changing the balance as much.
The chassis is not ruined just a shift in weight for how the car behaves stock. It drives more like a true FR car now and there is nothing wrong with FR cars. MZR plus a turbo kit probably weighs the same as an all aluminum V6, possibly more.
Always amazed how well you can communicate while driving on the edge like that. Walking AND chewing the hell out of that gum!
LOL guess I forgot to spit it out :P
@@TheSlipAngle I thikn it's a reference to a say that a man can do only 2 thing at once, e.g. walking and chewing gum ;)

Fun fact you can tuck 275/40/18 easily front and rear and still fully lock :)
you gotta have a leader board for times so we can nerd out on car comparisons!
End of the videos have the comparos to cars previously tested ;)
@@TheSlipAngle yes I saw that sorry I got too excited and had a premature release of text!

Of course I did lol. Willy is a much taller bloke than myself so his seat sat super low.
This is soooooooo damn cool man
Would a K swap be better here?? Seems like it doesn't really have that neutral balance RX8 is known for. Or perhaps it's just a drifter car now lol.
RX-8 is too heavy for small displacement so I don't think K would be a good fit. A 20b would be ideal.
nothin like a 7500 rpm 6 banger
Always enjoyable sliding around , how do you like transmission. Looks like it is not too precise .
Not too precise is an accurate description lol
what do you think of nissan s chassis and the 350z/370z? you need to make a video on those cars
I like them! Both are great for hooliganism
Fab vid As always Quinn, I've always put 4.3 diffs on my V6's makes them come alive, maybe a wide angle steering kit would make it better when your sideways 😉
Wouldn't match up with the transmission. I have 4.10 and am switching to a 3.73

@@TheSlipAngle oooo that's a pair of diffs to make acceleration nice, good to know 👍
Needs a different transmission! The ratios on upshifts are quite huge in transition. Nonetheless, great driving!
Not my favorite gear box :)
I used the same transmission but from 2005ish Cadillac CTS it has better ratios
The gearbox is mediocre at best. 3/4/5 are spaced decently for track use. 1/2 just feel bad.
I've been trying to reach Keisler with no success, anyone know if they're still making these kits?
I would also like to know

I wonder why he chose a LFX over the VQ35HR/VQ37.

I still think 20b is the answer for the RX-8. Maybe one day I'll try to find out. They are just so damn expensive now.

I'd spring for the VQ37 for the 8 :)
is the lfx swap good for daily driving too
Yes

I’d be funny if he’s pumping normal 87 octane gas 😂
So basically it's a G35 with a Mazda badge
RX-8 still has the best suspension design.
So they ruined the chassis? A 2.5 MZR with a turbo would be an easier swap and lighter.
The chassis is not ruined just a shift in weight for how the car behaves stock. It drives more like a true FR car now and there is nothing wrong with FR cars. MZR plus a turbo kit probably weighs the same as an all aluminum V6, possibly more.
I have corner weights for the mzr and lfz. Its not a huge difference. Lfx 3-4% heavier up front than stock.
you change the engine...you change the suspension........
N x
What I got from this is don't swap the rx8
I prefer traction v8
swap=understeer at least
