“Imma do the mini too” Warms my heart. I’ve been tearing down minis for years now, since I was a kid. This video helped me fix my iPOD Mini from 2004! I listened to it in my car on my way home from work today, and it was on a real low battery and that battery eventually died. Honestly though, the battery on this iPod isn't the best, and it doesn't last all that long. About a few hours. When I got home I plugged it into the wall, and two hours later... nothing. Not a thing. I was 100% sure that the battery was toast. I tried unplugging it, re -plugging it in, trying different charging cables that are Apple branded, pressing all the buttons, holding thhe middle button and swithing the "HOLD" switch back and forth, but still nothing. I was facing the harsh reality that I'll never be able to listen to my iPOD Mini again. That was until i found this video! Your video helped me out and I"m so greatful! This video helped me realize that I had tried everything I could think of EXCEPT a hard reset. And sure enough that did the trick! My iPod is currently charging. So thank you DankPods! I'm a big fan of your channel, I'm subscribed ,and enjoy the content you put out. Thank you for making it to where I don't have to buy a new iPOD Mini yet!
My childhood "iPod" was an RCA Lyra from 2005 but it worked great, buttons were all on the sides and they were recessed which meant I almost never touched the hold switch. Screen was tiny as heck though, 128x64 character LCD was impossible to read
Bought my first iPod ever 4 moths ago. It was sad and broken. Restored it myself using DankPods video as a guide. Since that I use it everyday for music and audiobooks. Doesn't drain mobile battery, nice sound, no annying "ding ding" notifications for every fcking message. Definitely worth it.

I've watched this guide dozens of times despite not having an ipod... but I'm ready. found a 6th gen for $38 and a 2008 macbook for $58, and I'm getting a flashkit with a 128gb card. It's gonna be trouble but I'm all here for it, gonna stream the whole thing once all the tools and parts arrive and once it's done, it'll be my daily driver (and once I get more money I'll do a case and clickwheel swap too for a black+purple ipod) thanks for introducing me to the idea that I could even do this, I haven't been this excited to do something in years. sure it set me back like $170 which is a lot for me since I don't come into money much, but this...this is worth it ^-^ Thanks for your awesome content over the years, ipods and nuggets and everything else! if anything goes wrong with the ipod I'll go ahead and blame Frank-
3G requires the double dong cable with a USB and a FireWire plug to the dock connector to do a flash upgrade/restore. Most upgrade videos do not mention this. Also, limited to 128GB because PATA Limitations at the time.
Just started getting into ipods and this guide has helped me so much. Especially for the Minis and 4th through 7th gens. Thanks so much for this! And also just generally getting me into this hobby!
These videos are my opiate. Sponsor this guy on Patreon - he deserves it. Best investment I made in 2020, which admittedly isn’t saying much considering how crap 2020 has been! But it brightens up the week no end.
Great guide! Just opened up the 7th gen I ordered from Elite Obsolete, it was a lot easier than I expected it to be! From the way you described it I thought it was going to be like Fort Knox.
I've did the iFlash mod on my second hand iPod Classic 7th gen and opening it whas like super crap to do, but i manage to use a thin knife and wiggle around the left and right corner. It's crap that i've had to use some force and made the back bend a bit but after the operation, and putting 206gb of storage in there: totaly worth it!! I wanna thank you DankPods for your video's.. you give me the inspiration to purchase a classic in 2020 and modify it so i can experience the best way to use it. I wanted these so bad when i was a child and now a days: totaly worth the wait. Just to bad the 160gb hard drive has started to fail cause who knows it could come in handy. Anyhow: thanks man. Super happy!!
these kinds of tutorials make me think about when i used to hang out with my cousin, watching him break into electronics and just jamming it all back, real fun times

I still use my 5th Gen iPod daily and I love it! From my car to the various stereo experiments I’ve put together over the years scattered throughout the house, it’s my go to conveniently portable storage & playback device for my favorite tunes. Find an Aux input and you’re ready to rock. Poddox makes it easy to add, subtract, copy or manage contents with any PC.
Thanks to you, DankPods, I ordered a 2nd Gen iPod Mini from eBay and the iFlash adapter a month or so ago and did the Mini Mod. I now have a 128GB Mini and love having an iPod again after not having one for a decade. Thanks for the awesome content and providing another tech-modding avenue for me to explore! Can confirm that modding the iPod Mini is fun and also that the tape/glue for the top and bottom plastic is a pain. Muffed up the top plastic with the iFlash tool a bit, but that's the battle scar to show I did it myself.
5th gen is by far my favorite, Wolfson DAC, ,easy to open, easy to replace face and backplate, can mod up to a Terabyte. 6th is limited to 128gb and is a monumental PIA to open.

Man, these things are fascinating, especially the first ones with the tiny HDD. The fact that they sold 10gb iPods back when having 1gb mp3 players was a luxury, is quite amazing.
Thanks to you I dug out my old 160GB 6th gen and gave it a nice little facelift. Now I've got a broken 5th gen with a wonky screen/headphone jack that I'm gonna revive and flash mod. Thanks so much for inspiring me to go down the iPod rabbit hole!
All i want to say is that your videos have brought me back to the world of MP3 players and ipods and i like your videos a lot. Keep up the fun content.

It's gonna be trouble but I'm all here for it, gonna stream the whole thing once all the tools and parts arrive and once it's done, it'll be my daily driver (and once I get more money I'll do a case and clickwheel swap too for a black+purple ipod) thanks for introducing me to the idea that I could even do this, I haven't been this excited to do something in years. sure it set me back like $170 which is a lot for me since I don't come into money much, but this...this is worth it ^-^
Thanks for your awesome content over the years, ipods and nuggets and everything else! if anything goes wrong with the ipod I'll go ahead and blame Frank-
Back to the good old days of Dank fixing ipods
i'm so glad you randomly popped up in my YT recommended a month ago, love your videos
I was on my way home from Martha’s Vineyard when I watched this perfect timing!
It was 4 hour car ride lol
This video helped me fix an iPod mini I found in the trash. Now I can listen to some flacs.
Where the hell was this channel when i needed it :D i think this is in my top 3 favorite channels now
Do you guys ever just watch the video without needing to fix an iPod? It’s like watching Bob Ross paint but you’re not actually painting with him
Dankpods: 1:08 *"Quick Crash Course"*
Me: emphasis on the quick
Dankpods- *suggests me to watch the segment with the one I own
Me, who doesn't own one- "ALL the segments."
Do I need to know how to fix an iPod? No.
Do I want to listen to DankPods’ sweet, sweet, voice for 45 minutes. *Yes.*
3rd gen is wonky for flash modding?
I used a dirty scrub ebay adapter and an ACTUAL COMPACTFLASH CARD, and it worked perfectly
I tried that, but the software was extremely wonky and I had to reset the whole iPod about a million times when using it.
These videos are my opiate. Sponsor this guy on Patreon - he deserves it. Best investment I made in 2020, which admittedly isn’t saying much considering how crap 2020 has been! But it brightens up the week no end.
Me: Man I wish Dankpod's videos were longer
Dankpod:
You making mistakes here is actually better than everything being done perfectly. It shows us what not to do!
Ah yes a repairable Apple device
Quite rare these days
And they had a headphone jack
And it was actually usable
I love that this video came out in time for me to watch and savour as I'm about to have surgery and waiting on the ward. Thanks DankPods 😂
these kinds of tutorials make me think about when i used to hang out with my cousin, watching him break into electronics and just jamming it all back, real fun times
Because of your channel, I have pulled the trigger on a 5th gen ipod classic just to use for music listening. Thank you.
Me: *watches the entire thing with no intention to get an iPod classic up and running*
#Nolifesquad Actually just love DankPods, keep up the amazing videos my dude.
Edit: My boy liked this post, it's a dream come true! Praise overlord Shrek for this honor(Foreshadowing)
Edit of the edit: The honor has been taken away, this truly is a rollercoaster of emotions. Shrek has decided I was not worthy enough. Faith is all I have now the boy will someday return. The Shrek giveth and the Shrek taketh away.
Hour 1: Thus begins my diary for the fabled ❤️ from DankPods, now realizing editing it has caused the reason for my dismay in the first place. Truly, I was the antagonist the entire time.

I have never clicked on a notification quicker.
I still use my 5th Gen iPod daily and I love it!
From my car to the various stereo experiments I’ve put together over the years scattered throughout the house, it’s my go to conveniently portable storage & playback device for my favorite tunes.

Dank did that scrap metal guy ever talk to you? He has like 100’s of pods
"feel free to skip to your ipod model"
tfw you don't own any ipod so you just watch the whole video
big brain time
but also same lol
My iPod Classic Series 5 is working again, just a replacement battery needed, thank you

"I am NOT disappointed!"
