LOVE you dad, and love Martijn and his spectacular detailed job he does!

My Dad for most of his adult life was a farmer, then a storeman /manager in a "stock and station" company in NZ. He could turn his hand tomost things (but like me, welding wasn't one of them). He would have been totally confounded by the internet on one hand, but on the other. like a child in a sweet shop told they could gorge themselve, totally entralled by the plethora of "knowledge & learning available". My husband and I have really been enjoying your video documentary ... Friday, we went back and viewed your cycling journey from Vancouver to Patagonia. We watched the first two parts then and finished watching the last two parts yesterday. It was amazing and very frightening. We envisioned being all alone in the dark of night with nary a sound, and the thought of that was quite scary... at the same time, the journey you took was so beautiful and uplifting. It has encouraged us to get out and see more of this beautiful world we live in. Thank you for sharing all of this with us.
"Doolardians", how I love the word, reminds me of Tolkein; maybe you yourself are a writer? .. in a land far away and near at hand, they, "the Doolardians" gather stones and build, and in the mountain clouds warmth is in their homes and hearts.....
When I saw this I had to comment. We are "Doolardians". Watching is such a warm and fun experience. Makes me feel confident and able to tackle my own projects with the right attitude.
You never realize how much skill it takes when we only see the finished product, but watching a professional put in windows is eye opening. That goes for you, too, Martijn. You can do almost anything - carpenter, stone mason, artist, baker, things you know I can’t imagine. Such a smart way to chop kindling.
Patience and Perseverance are two among many of your strong suits of character and without those you probably would not be taking on such a major project in your life. One is also able to sense a peace in your personality. Your videos showing the progress in transforming the stone buildings create such tranquility in your viewers. Thanks for sharing them.
The winds that says it all... we often times miss to enjoy this unique kind of wind that signals the change of the season which coincides with the changes happening in the cabin. The synchronicity of events is not something anybody can plan because a lot of things can happen along the way and it's so satisfying to watch when things are slowly falling into place at the right time. Thanks for sharing.
I find myself torn somewhere between sadness and glee that not a single sound of a close or distant cowbell could be heard throughout this upload.😊😊 But the visual enjoyment of color, mists, rains, and sunshine along with the pleasure of absorbing the endless other artistic skills of Martijn photographing, planning, and building, always thoroughly resounds.
It seems that there are so many of us that sit with Martijn every eeek and appreciate this man’s work ethic and how proud his parents must be to watch this beautiful human being touch the souls of so many viewers.. you inspire me Martijn it’s like a divine moment every week .. thank you
When i was a child we vacationed in the mountains of vermont. When i was asked to go get the eggs for breakfast from the local farmer, that would mean walking down a very lengthy driveway. As i emerged from the forest i came to a Heavenly scene where the morning dew was upon thousands of fur trees, but it was the rising sun touching the dew that turned all of those trees to pink christmas trees...it was breathtaking, and thats what your music and videos remind me of!❤
Not much words, no fancy music.. just drizzling rain or birds chirping… nature and a job that’s needs to be done. And he does it with dedication and patience… Balm to busy souls….
There are so many great updates. The windows make everything come together, and the stairs are looking great and filled with character! I am sure by the 1st snow you will already be back in the cabin, ready to finish its interior with notes of your personality in every corner. I just love the care and attention to details you put in all the little things (like hammering the steps). It is not about what others will see. It is all about the pleasure and joy of a job well done! Well done Martjin, well done!❤❤
A neat trick I learned to get a tidy silicon seal is,... get a cup of water and squeeze in a good squirt of quality washing up liquid (i.e. Fairy etc),.. froth it up a little,... then, properly dip your forefinger in the solution and firmly run said slick finger along the hard surface of the hardware and gel you're sealing to literally wipe off the excess silicon gel to get a perfectly smooth and tidy finish. Works every time. ;)
I’m so glad I found you, Martijn! I look for you each Sunday like no other! And such satisfaction once watched. Ah…stone, working with it and mortar to build fireplaces in my past. Can’t get better than a stone house! All of the beautiful scenery that surrounds your land and homes. And you precise in your building…ah…so nice in this life! The wind blew, and the rain came, windows placed and fireplace too! All of which I dearly love. Thanks for sharing all that you do. May God bless you and yours!
It's amazing how your chickens want to follow you around everywhere. However, I don't see them over by the houses. The steps from the ground floors to the 1st floor is looking great. Just amazing workmanship.
@10:04 Depending on the length of your logs, get one or two old car tiers, place it on the ground, preferably a stone platform. Fill it up with wood and start chopping. The tier/s will bundle wood together and hold it in upright position, allowing you to chop it to the finest splits. When chopping logs directly on the ground, (soft suffuse) a significant part of the energy in each strike is transferred directly to the ground, making chopping more laborious.
@@andymccabe6712 Andy think about it for just a second. It is a lot more fuss to try and strap a bunch of logs than it is to just fit them into an old tire to accomplish the same thing. And secondly you will eventually hack up the straps. The old tire is easier, more efficient, and just way better. Just my $.02.
Martijn, “visiting you” every week is the highlight of my week. Just love the paradise you are creating for yourself. However, it worries me sick that you are not protecting your lungs when you are cutting stone etc. Please 🙏 wear a mask. Keep up the amazing craftsmanship you are sharing with us all. "Föhn (I've just learnt a new word) ....a warm wind, it tears everything apart ...there's snow on the mountain....a beautiful day"! I just had to smile...a wind that tears everything apart and it's still a beautiful day and so it was.
Wow! What a week! Martijn you are getting so close to moving into your cabin! I can barely wait, so I can’t imagine how you must feel! 😄 I see your smiles with the cooler temperatures; cool weather invigorates me, so I sense your happiness and understand it. Those wind “storms” you get in your mountains are truly awesome! I do enjoy you sharing them. The cloud shot at around 21:55 was magical. You chose a perfect place to live! Everything you create is beautiful with an artistic touch. The stone around the stove, the stairs with the curve in them, the etching in the side of the stair step stone, another arch on the stove like your utility room, your windows, everything is superb! What a perfect aesthetic touch using the copper pipe for your stove, just gorgeous. I find your method to chop wood ingenious! This is 2nd time I’ve seen you do it and I got a smile again. How you come up with ways of doing things I find interesting. I won’t forget them and will use in my life The trees you are cutting down for later use, all the branches that you hauled away can be placed and built into brush piles for sheltering many critters, chipmunks, rabbits, and birds love them. If you can remember back to when Martjin started, there was so much to be done, it seemed like an insurmountable project, but Martjin never faulted , he had a mission to accomplish and in his own calm and capable demeanor, he is close to finishing. He has so many faith full followers that await every video, he has captured the hearts of all of us with his hard work and determination.Congratulations for all that you have accomplished and may you enjoy the fruits of your labor for many years to come.
Kudos to you for the ethos of getting it right the first time (and meticulous high standard); and for preserving the cottage's original design. I have been inspired by your pace and thoroughness in my own property (just wish i had the skills and strength!) Bravo!😊 Really looking forward to seeing you light the masonry stove!
If you cut wood for fires; cut when the sap is down in the tree.. mid winter? Birch you can burn unseasoned, straight away. 2 weeks to 3 months seasoning at the most. Birch tends to be vulnerable to beetle so there is no advantage in storing it for 12 months. Thanks for the vlog, as always, a Joy!
This is a labor of love channel. I salut this man for all his hard work. I would love to give him my ideas for a better power source. He struggles at night for light.
Truly remarkable, Martijn! Can't wait for the fireplace and stairs to be completed. It just gets more beautiful each week! Such precise workmanship in the windows and doors! Peace and Love, until next week!
Good morning Martijn. The windows are beautiful!!! Such progress. You are definitely getting closer to moving in full time. Good luck with the remainder of the week.
Thanks again for letting us know what's happening on your mountain in Italy. Once again I'm so envious of your unending supply of free flat stones....and in admiration for your unerring attention to detail in the building of the steps. How wonderful to have your highly skilled window craftsman not only bring the windows, but a meal as well! The noise as the big pane of glass slid into the frame was like a clarion call to announce the final weather tight phase of the cabin!. And the shot of Geppo, centered in a big wall of stone, fitting the tiny window, somehow made me think of a church. Also, I heard you say you missed going to good bookstores. You may already know of it, but there's a wonderful little book called The Poetics of Space, by Gaston Bachelard, in which he talks about the meaning of all the spaces, large and small, in our houses. I think you'd like it. Have a good week, Martijn.
I don’t even know where to start! The windows, the stairs, the chimney, fireplace wood box! Just astounding, but I think my favorite of this weeks video was that giant cloud rising up from below over the mountains! 😯 i’ve never seen anything like that! It was mystical and otherworldly. The white chicken looks very healthy and plump; it’s good to see her and the other chickens so healthy. Thank you so much, friend, For letting us in on your journey. It is an absolute delight ~ 🙏🙌👏
Zeker.
Martijn your an artist with a brush, with a saw, with a hammer, with mediums of all types. I so enjoy watching and though I lost my dad in 2015 he joins me I can feel him watching also. There is such great pleasure I know for you seeing it come to life with your hands. Yes soon we will all be bathed in the midst of winter and the warmth of the fires from your new fireplace will be amazing. I can almost see and smell the bread in the upper chamber when your culinary skills bring forth yet more of your many talents. Thanks so much Martijn for sharing your journey a beautiful one it is. Blessings from Ohio
The way the fog/clouds billowed up as the rain grew stronger (in part of your opening sequence) was a particularly beautiful piece of nature. As always, a welcome and transformative experience to watch your vlog. Thank you.
Such beautiful craftsmanship by everyone. The windows are just beautiful. Love the stone work. I enjoy watching your videos every Sunday. Martijn you should be so proud of yourself.
Martijn is not afraid of hard work. All the hard work is paying off. Can’t wait till you move in. It will be so cosy & comfortably. What a great job. Not long now to the snow falling…. Another great video, thanks. Cheers Noeline 🇦🇺🙏👏👍
I hope you buy the chapel. It sounds lovely. It may take a year for all the permits; however, it will be well worth it. I'm sure a lot of your subscribers would love to help you fix it up. Eventually it could be a source of income. Sending loving and peace-filled thoughts to everyone.
Cross continental cyclist to wood crafts to stone mason, not to mention chef, baker and gentleman farmer or master storyteller and videographer…your talents are truly beyond measure. Thank you for sharing week over week. I have followed from the beginning and hope to visit one day.
Deep respect on the things you have made your self the couple of the last 2 years.. Every time create something new, and mostly you did it self.. Lots of skill you have.
Thanks Martin. You have that connection to Earth that so many miss and the courage to live a simple life. Healing the soul of so many and showing the way!
Today I'm at my remote property working on something mundane and tedious and I just remember Martijn...methodically and purposefully doing his work. So I put on my Martijn vibe to get the work done well. I'm SO ENAMORED WITH THIS DOG though! Guessing white Swiss shepherd. Lovely animal
Wonderful, as always. Not only are these enjoyable to watch, I'm always learning something new. Example: my previous wood-chopping experiences used the inefficient "place one log at a time, and pick it up every time it falls over" method. Bundling them together so they hold each other up makes so much more sense. 🙂
Is anyone else just waiting to see Martijn be able to sit down infront of his fireplace with his sketch pad and a steaming hot coffee to show us his next step in the process? Thank you Martijn for allowing us to share your dream.
Time line 10:16 - Matijn, Thank you- best way to chop firewood without it flying all over the place, love the trapping way to clump the wood then split it.! - I'm looking forward to using your technique in Australia next winter as I have a fire place myself - I'm surprised no one has commented on this 'hidden gem of information ' in your video - you inspire me in so many ways - I love your channel Thank you for everything you share with all who watch you. I'm praying you'll be set for winter
So much thought and craftsmanship is going into the stove and stairs design. This might be my favourite part of the renovation so far. The roof was wonderful too. Congratulations Martin - you must be learning a lot, and inspiring so many of us!
Now I'm worried that it will get nicked because it must have cost a lot and has intrinsic value. Seems a shame for Martijn to wall it in but perhaps for the best.
It's impressive how quickly you can now build with stone. You can't tell where the old ends and the new begins on the walls, it's really beautiful work.👍❤

I loved the close up shots of Martjin at his work table that he did this week. You could just picture your self being there maybe helping out in some way lol! Although I don’t know how this old hairdresser would help out Lolol! Anyway so beautifully filmed! Loved the clouds coming up over the valley! Weather sure gives Martjin fodder for the camera and I can’t get enough of it!
It is moving along quite nicely. Will you move your kitchen into the house for the winter? You must be getting quite excited. The windows and doors are beautiful. I had a local window and door maker build all my windows and doors. It was the best thing I had done in my old house. I found a window in my attic that has been wind and rain blown and now needs to be replaced. ooops. Are there only two chickens now? They look happy. I look forward to your weekly posts. They are a wonderful break from all the crazy that is going on in the world right now. Hoping you don't have bad weather this week. It is still warm in central Italy. I am in the mountains. Majella and Gran Sasso. Windy as all get out. but warm. I havent seen a fall like this in a couple of years. Best of luck this week with all you are doing. thank you again for the positive videos.
It must have felt good to have the windows and door in after a long wait! I was almost expecting a hurrah from Geppo's car as he was leaving. What a success!

I find myself torn somewhere between sadness and glee that not a single sound of a close or distant cowbell could be heard throughout this upload.😊😊
But the visual enjoyment of color, mists, rains, and sunshine along with the pleasure of absorbing the endless other artistic skills of Martijn photographing, planning, and building, always thoroughly resounds.
What a unique way of splitting wood! I will try that this week.
It seems that there are so many of us that sit with Martijn every eeek and appreciate this man’s work ethic and how proud his parents must be to watch this beautiful human being touch the souls of so many viewers.. you inspire me Martijn it’s like a divine moment every week .. thank you
Danke!
I watch every week from the beginning and I still look forward every Sunday when you video publishes. We never tire of your content. 😊
When i was a child we vacationed in the mountains of vermont. When i was asked to go get the eggs for breakfast from the local farmer, that would mean walking down a very lengthy driveway. As i emerged from the forest i came to a Heavenly scene where the morning dew was upon thousands of fur trees, but it was the rising sun touching the dew that turned all of those trees to pink christmas trees...it was breathtaking, and thats what your music and videos remind me of!❤
Wow, the sound was amazingly strong and clear. Great job. I never miss a Sunday with you. Thank you.
Me too never miss every single Sunday since I discovered his accidentally. Hid first night in the cabin and from then on .
Not much words, no fancy music.. just drizzling rain or birds chirping… nature and a job that’s needs to be done.
And he does it with dedication and patience…
Balm to busy souls….
I really like the way this man works! It’s easy to see that he’s sharp thinker and knows what he’s doing!! Great Video!!❤
I love watching Martijn, he is the reason I get out of bed Sunday morning, he is amazing
@@joycegronenthal2560 yes, I catch him after church but his show is what I so look forward to!
Coffee ready, time to watch a true craftsman at work! Hello from California!
What a lot of fuss!!!
The way he's doing it now is JUST FINE ..........!!!
@@andymccabe6712 ?? It is a permanent fix, and it is 100 times more efficient than using a ratchet strap.
Did you mean tires / tyres (from a car) ?
@@helenvangeleuken6265 Yes, the same car tyres :)))
Cheers from Perth, Western Australia. 👍👏🙏🐝🌻😁
I won’t forget them and will use in my life
The trees you are cutting down for later use, all the branches that you hauled away can be placed and built into brush piles for sheltering many critters, chipmunks, rabbits, and birds love them. Here are some links if interested:

Have a great week Martijn. Be safe. Looking forward to next week. Wish I could be a bird and watch you as you go!
💚 from Texas
If you can remember back to when Martjin started, there was so much to be done, it seemed like an insurmountable project, but Martjin never faulted , he had a mission to accomplish and in his own calm and capable demeanor, he is close to finishing. He has so many faith full followers that await every video, he has captured the hearts of all of us with his hard work and determination.Congratulations for all that you have accomplished and may you enjoy the fruits of your labor for many years to come.
Kudos to you for the ethos of getting it right the first time (and meticulous high standard); and for preserving the cottage's original design.
I have been inspired by your pace and thoroughness in my own property (just wish i had the skills and strength!)
Bravo!😊 Really looking forward to seeing you light the masonry stove!
Geppo is a real artist artisan ... WELL DONE !
Lovely video today Martijn and thanks again for allowing all of us to share your world... ✌
Beautiful to see the white chicken doing well
If you cut wood for fires; cut when the sap is down in the tree.. mid winter? Birch you can burn unseasoned, straight away. 2 weeks to 3 months seasoning at the most. Birch tends to be vulnerable to beetle so there is no advantage in storing it for 12 months. Thanks for the vlog, as always, a Joy!
Looking at those birch trees I remembered my grandfather making brooms out of birch branches. They were great for garden work
Madre di Dio quel pandino 4x4 è un gioiello
Almost in showroom shape.
This is a labor of love channel. I salut this man for all his hard work. I would love to give him my ideas for a better power source. He struggles at night for light.
Amazing! We love this 1/2 hour of relaxation, while we watch you and your friends Work tirelessly in order to make your dream a reality!
Truly remarkable, Martijn! Can't wait for the fireplace and stairs to be completed. It just gets more beautiful each week! Such precise workmanship in the windows and doors! Peace and Love, until next week!
This chanel gives us peace and contentment. Modesty and calmness. Thank you martijn!
That copper flue pipes will look stunning with a little time and patina. Have never seen it in copper before, beautiful.👍
Hi happy Sunday to everyone
Appreciate the recommendation. ❤
Man, man, man, wat een prachtige aflevering weer!
Thank you.
I also love how the chickens yell at you to let them out!!
Such beautiful craftsmanship by everyone. The windows are just beautiful. Love the stone work. I enjoy watching your videos every Sunday. Martijn you should be so proud of yourself.
Buy the church! This is my favorite "tv show". I don't want it to end... Great work Martijn.
We appreciate your dedication and hard work. Keep working hard.
AMAZING FOGEE WEATHER ... LOVE RAINY DAYS ...
Martijn is not afraid of hard work. All the hard work is paying off. Can’t wait till you move in. It will be so cosy & comfortably. What a great job.
Not long now to the snow falling…. Another great video, thanks. Cheers Noeline 🇦🇺🙏👏👍
My favorite new show on tv
I hope you buy the chapel. It sounds lovely. It may take a year for all the permits; however, it will be well worth it. I'm sure a lot of your subscribers would love to help you fix it up. Eventually it could be a source of income. Sending loving and peace-filled thoughts to everyone.
I honestly see Martijn and Johannes restoring the chapel together, with visits from Martijns father and a lot of willing helpers of course.
Cross continental cyclist to wood crafts to stone mason, not to mention chef, baker and gentleman farmer or master storyteller and videographer…your talents are truly beyond measure. Thank you for sharing week over week. I have followed from the beginning and hope to visit one day.
很開心看到你將這個石頭屋改造的如此現代又不失古老靈魂,期待入住的時刻。很棒哦
Love my Sunday afternoon with you! It completes my peaceful day with peaceful views and meticulous work
It's going to be so cosy in there once the snow arrives.
Is anyone else just waiting to see Martijn be able to sit down infront of his fireplace with his sketch pad and a steaming hot coffee to show us his next step in the process? Thank you Martijn for allowing us to share your dream.
Gobsmacked by the stove! And the staircase shall be mesmerizing. Adoration for your art. 😉👏
I’m currently reading Walden by Thoreau, and the parallels with you are striking. I hope you write a book on your experience one day. Thanks, Martijn.
Be of good courage, mind your health and your eye on the goal of a finished Homestead for yourself. We enjoy every minute with you.
So much thought and craftsmanship is going into the stove and stairs design. This might be my favourite part of the renovation so far. The roof was wonderful too. Congratulations Martin - you must be learning a lot, and inspiring so many of us!
Wow, Martijn, that copper chimney is absolutely beautiful. Goes so well with the stone walls. Congrats.
Now I'm worried that it will get nicked because it must have cost a lot and has intrinsic value. Seems a shame for Martijn to wall it in but perhaps for the best.
My thoughts too… hope he’ll build it in soon
It's impressive how quickly you can now build with stone. You can't tell where the old ends and the new begins on the walls, it's really beautiful work.👍❤
Love watching with my earbuds in while I’m doing my own housework. Imagining exactly what he’s up to, checking in periodically
So much accomplished! That stove and the stairs are going to be so gorgeous!!! Just hanging on every moment with this channel!
Every Sunday when I slow things down and watch Martijin bring his creativity to this magnificent home stone by stone brick by brick. The stove and the stairs are beautiful.❤
Thank you for sharing your life with us Martijn. Your surroundings are beautiful and you are creating buildings that are well suited to the environment. I think I'm starting to look forward to you living in the buildings as much as you are!!
It was music to my ears to hear talk of another possible build. You can't stop. This magnificent build means too much to all of us. Bev USA😊😊😊😊😊❤❤
