Informative, interesting, beautiful, often meditative- and sometimes sad.
the situation with the chickens really dragged me down. They are like your little housemates. And they always seemed so happy and full of joy. i feel your sadness martijn.
Oh Martijn, I am so sorry for your loss. You brought me to tears when you were explaining what happened. You are such a caring person and you can see how much you love your chickens. I love them also. I cried when you lost your spotted one and it was devasting losing your black one this way. Very careless of the dog owners. I hope your white one will be ok. She came through the last little illness and hopefully she will come through this. You are so very talented. My husband and I admire your work. Amazing job on the stove and stairs. It looks absolutely stunning. 🖤🐔
Martijn So sorry about your chickens. I am a responsible dog owner. Don’t understand why owners let their dogs run free, especially when they are visiting someone. Watching your videos is so magical when you have drone shots. It’s like being up in the heavens with you. Your fireplace is fantastic!!
Because unfortunately many people overestimate their dogs and their control over them, because their dog is so much better than everyone else - that's just stupid.
I am absolutely raging and so saddened by the dog attack on the chickens. It's clear they have been loyal companions. Despicable, disrespectful behaviour on the part of the owners.
So sorry about the loss of your chicken & the injury to the little, white hen. We have grown to love them and look forward to their antics each week. Beautiful work on the stove!
Attrition with chickens is always a fact. But losing them to inattentive dog owners is infuriating! Eager to see you indoors for the winter. That oven fireplace is gorgeous with the stairs. Beautiful work! Thanks for having us along.
Very sorry about the loss of your black hen it’s upsetting when someone is careless about their dogs. We had a pet rooster called him Goodmorning and a weasel came one night and attacked him he must have put up quite a fight and lost an eye so I thought but my wise grandma suggested trying to put saline solution in his eye and I did this for several days and he would meet me at the back door for his treatment and What do you know one morning when I went to treat him his eye was back. Life can be good! And I’am so happy your white hen is doing well as this is the second time for her to have an unpleasant encounter with an intruder I believe. Take care and I bet a fence will help. I love. Love. LOVE! your stonework and the fireplace with the stairway behind is gorgeous. Looking forward to the floorboards going down. Until next week. 👋🏻👋🏻👍🏻🙏🏻
Hello Martijn. The stove, the stonework, the stairs - a massive project done. Stunning. Saddened, very sorry about the loss of the chicken. Good to see Ollie again. Wish him well in his search. Shout out for young Michiel and his firewood work. Looking forward to the next chapter here. Blessings to all here.
The cruel loss of your little black hen struck me so strongly . I feel sure too that the two remaining are having difficulty getting over the horror even the one with seemingly no injuries will be recovering from the event . I wonder if the couple whose dog is responsible were suitably aghast at their negligence and their culpability.
Good morning 🇧🇷 The lights you observed are the Star Link satellites shortly after they were launched. Over time they go to their designated positions and it becomes difficult to identify them.
So sorry for the loss of Black. Hoping healing for White to endure the Winter. They live a blessed life with you. Thank you again for these wonderful videos.
It's a sad state of the world when people allow their dogs to harm or kill and don't even take responsibility. That being said, you looking for the chicken and then burying it, and the kindness shown to you in these comments, makes me see there are still good people in this world. Everything is looking fantastic!!! Great job!!
I'm very sorry you lost a chicken, it's difficult to find that. I once lost six to a nasty fox. I suggested it previously, and I will again, GET A ROOSTER! They help protect their girls, and will sound a "run for cover" alarm if there is trouble. I had a wonderful little rooster who sacrificed himself against the fox, allowing half my flock to hide. Even if you don't want a rooster, you will need more than two chickens to share body heat for the winter. I would recommend four as the minimum. If you continue to get attacks, you're going to want to consider guard animals. A gander, or a pair of geese works pretty well although they are louder than a rooster! The stove looks wonderful, and I will feel better when you have proper shelter!!
Dogs killed my entire flock except the rooster. They are no guarantee. However, your suggestion of geese...Perfection! Angry geese are better than a fence.
@@monaaustin7820 Yeah, no one and nothing tangles with an angry gander or a broody goose! Roosters are not always reliable it is true, the one I got after my little guy was killed was so aggressive he sent me to urgent care. It's a bit hit and miss with them sometimes. If the girls are going to free roam it's almost impossible to completely stop aggressive or hungry animals.
Mixed emotions.... I'm sad for another loss but happy at the same time that you are finally taking that big step by moving into the cabin by next week! This episode is a little heavy on the heart to watch, as viewers we do not only savor the good times but we share your pain as well. Thanks for sharing.
So sorry for your loss Martijn. But what made me tear is you digging a “grave” for her. Shows who you are and how great your soul is. You are truly an amazing person.
So sorry for the loss of blacky and white chicken 🐓 injury. They really have become family to not just you but everyone that watches the channel. Another great video ❤
That’s aweful that folks came on your property with their dog without considering your live stock! They not only provide eggs but they are companions, you get to know their habits! Will you get two more chickens in spring? Thank you for sharing your journey with us! Always beautifully done. Krystyna in Wisconsin
Actually chocked me up a bit watching Martjin explain what happened. The emotion was tangible. You can see by the level of effort and work ethic he cares deeply about what he does but I don't think it would be a stretch to say animals become your friends and when one passes so tragically, it hits you hard. They're not self aware like us but they have their own little personalities. Even surrounded by all that beauty, tragedy is still inevitable. Good on you Martjin for continuing to do what we all dreamed we could 😁
Chickens are actually quite clever, & sociable creatures. My daughter had chickens, & red one, named Ruby, used to join us on the porch, & sit on our shoulder. She’d just doze off as we were chatting. She would come into the house & sit on a chair. I’m sure it was just to be with us. 😄
My father used to put a special kind of light bulb in the chicken coop we had when I was growing up that would radiate enough heat to keep the chickens warm through the winter nights in rural New England. I am not sure what they're called. It's been a long time since I kept chickens, but I'm sure you could find out. I am so sorry you lost her. I think your idea for a fence to protect them is a good one. Congratulations on your beautiful cottage!!!
I have watched you from the start, and your videos are comforting and very good for my health. It takes me back to my innocent childhood days. I'm not a big commenter. I love your soothing personality. Many of us do. Keep up the great work 😊 it's good for the soul! Thank you.
While I adore listening to you updating us in the outro, Martijn, it also makes me tear up because I'm nowhere near ready for our glimpse into the raw pleasure and creativity of your life to be over for another week.. does this make me exceptionally greedy, or just crazy loving on the lifestyle you allow us so graciously to join you in for those brief yet overwhelmingly welcome moments you bring to us. I wonder if you know how much we love and appreciate what you bring to us - i.e. yourself. Be safe ... Be warm... Until next time! see you next week!
You put into words so beautifully! How I feel when Martijn video comes to the end! Sometimes I put off watching them, for this reason! There's is something quite extraordinary! about Martijn ❤
Martijn I am so very sorry (and also a little angry) that the dog got your chickens. I know the owners must also be upset. I swear I felt your sadness through the tv. I lost a pet turkey to a fox and it broke my heart. On a happier note, your home is looking beautiful and cozy. Thank you for entertaining us weekly. We appreciate you. Hugs to you on the loss of your chicken. Poor white one; I hope she recovers soon. 🥰
Martijn, I'm so sorry for the loss of your black chicken. It must be quite difficult to experience such carelessness, especially when you are so caring and responsible. I hope that the beauty and peace of your surroundings is somewhat comforting. Thank you so much for sharing this peace every week. Congratulations on finishing the fireplace and staircase. It couldn't be more beautiful. Job beautifully executed. I hope you and your chickens stay well. Those floor boards look very promising. Thank you, Aviva
What an emotional episode. The beauty of that cloud wave along with the music score got me all choked up. Here, we also lost 2 of our hens to a bobcat a few weeks ago. Sorry about the loss of your little buddy, Martijn.
I think those moving 'stars' might be Starlink Satellites passing overhead. Your videos are a favourite part of every week Martijn. Thank you for every episode!!
The stove is absolutely stunning. As well as being functional its a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, well done you. Im so sorry for your loss of your black chicken, its heartbreaking, and I could see how choked you were. If the couple who's dogs attacked your chickens watch your channel I would like to think they would return (without the dogs) and apologise for what happened, and bring some new chickens for you. Your channel is by far one of the best out there, such a pleasure to watch and follow. Looking forward to see you move into the cabin for winter. Best wishes Martijn
I'm so sorry for your loss. I loved that the chickens followed you around while pecking for food. My grandmother had chickens and they used to follow her into the house. She'd give them corn and shoo them back outside. It was quite the ritual. Poor Hestia without her tail feathers. We had a bit of snow yesterday. Winter has arrived in Colorado. Our temperatures will yo-yo for another few weeks. Have a good week Martijn!

In spite of the violence and loss you had to endure , this video was tremendously beautiful! The fireplace is strikingly beautiful! Well planned and well executed! It is Charming with rough edges; lovely artistic combination! Blessings for a fulfilling week... 😊
So very sorry for your loss Martijin. Chickens thrive when they can run free they are a joy to watch. Your hard work is paying off in leaps and bounds the stone work is beautiful as is the stove. Do hope the white chicken makes it through the winter. You have such a lovely homestead, thank you for sharing your journey with us always look forward to your next video. Take care.
The stove side came out really beautifully, sorry for the chickens people should really understand they must keep their dogs on a leash if they don't know the place is okay and if they aren't able to control it properly
Oh Martijn… How devastating it must have felt when you discovered your chicken dead in the brush! You put your heart, mind, and soul into creating a beautiful habitat only to suffer unnecessary loss due to dogs off leash on your property. It certainly wasn’t considerate of the pet guardians. I’m really loving how you incorporated the stairs around your stove and up to the second floor. It looks great and saves space, too! Watching how you work helps me, and others of course, learn how it should be done. Your attention to detail with pointing stone is meticulous. Great job!
What a beautiful piece of stonework. The stove and stairs are wonderful and you can really take pride in the work and the beauty of the interior. What a milestone to reach. The floorboards will give such a sense of progress - and occupying the cabin. The interior will become home very quickly I'm sure and the acquisition of furniture will give you a very pleasing aesthetic. Congratulations Martijn - lovely to have watched the journey.

Especially when your chicken coop is a first class hotel, and your land has an abundance of herbs.
As always- thank you for giving us the opportunity to watch your outstanding videos.
Agree. Astounded that the dog owner(s) didn't know/care what happened. And when you saunter by to chat, dogs go on lead. Period, no excuses.
Idiots with dogs that they can't control when the need arises
chickens running free in wild places don't work, too many predators, needs a rethink
@@alexandermorrison8431 a wild animal getting the chickens is different than someone being irresponsible and not keeping their dogs on a lead.
I am absolutely raging and so saddened by the dog attack on the chickens. It's clear they have been loyal companions. Despicable, disrespectful behaviour on the part of the owners.
take it easy, its not the end of the world!
so very sorry that you lost your lovely black hen.....they all look so happy and healthy...😪
So far, not one has been lost to a wild animal...
It’s not a fact if you protect them.
Friendly reminder to everyone: watch the ads without skipping to support!
So sorry for the loss of Black. Hoping healing for White to endure the Winter. They live a blessed life with you. Thank you again for these wonderful videos.
Poor little white hen not only moans in pain, but with sorrow of missing her black hen friend. 😢
Hy , this is a sad week , I’m sorry for your loss, Blackie didn’t deserve that destiny 🥺🥺.
Agree with everything u said here 👍
Dogs killed my entire flock except the rooster. They are no guarantee. However, your suggestion of geese...Perfection! Angry geese are better than a fence.
Great advice and let’s hope he read this
@@monaaustin7820 Yeah, no one and nothing tangles with an angry gander or a broody goose! Roosters are not always reliable it is true, the one I got after my little guy was killed was so aggressive he sent me to urgent care. It's a bit hit and miss with them sometimes. If the girls are going to free roam it's almost impossible to completely stop aggressive or hungry animals.
Black chicken will not be forgotten, she will remain in our hearts
Mixed emotions.... I'm sad for another loss but happy at the same time that you are finally taking that big step by moving into the cabin by next week! This episode is a little heavy on the heart to watch, as viewers we do not only savor the good times but we share your pain as well. Thanks for sharing.
So sorry for your loss Martijn. But what made me tear is you digging a “grave” for her. Shows who you are and how great your soul is. You are truly an amazing person.
I'm just sick over the attack on your innocent girls and to think this couple kept walking without any remorse or shame! I'm sorry for your loss.
So sorry for the loss of blacky and white chicken 🐓 injury. They really have become family to not just you but everyone that watches the channel. Another great video ❤
Yes.
Good on you Martjin for continuing to do what we all dreamed we could 😁
Yes, and the black hen, she used to follow him everywhere, so adorable... good memories... sigh
Heat lamp. I also suggested he put one in the chicken coop.
Those lamps are red infrared lamp or heat lamp for chickens.
I have watched you from the start, and your videos are comforting and very good for my health. It takes me back to my innocent childhood days. I'm not a big commenter. I love your soothing personality. Many of us do. Keep up the great work 😊 it's good for the soul! Thank you.
Dear Martijn, you gave the black hen a lovely spell on your beautiful plot of Earth.. So sorry for your loss RIP Black Hen
I’m very angry 😡 I don’t blame the animal, I blame the humans.
Grande Martjin , la tua stufa e' la piu bella del mondo !!!👏👏👏❤
I am so sorry about the chickens. I literally gasped. Hoping that White will make a full recovery.
I'm so sorry about your chickens. I hope you take the white one and hold her occasionally.... connection heals❤❤❤❤
Dog Problems, are Dog Problems! Move on, Don't Look Back. Martijn, great work as usual!! Ciao, Salute
Thank you, Aviva
building a protective fence for them in the first place would have been responsible thing to do to avoid this to happen.
Amazing fireplace & stairs.
Sorry about your chicken. Glad you buried it. ❤
The stove is a masterpiece,a LOVE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
What an emotional episode. The beauty of that cloud wave along with the music score got me all choked up.
Here, we also lost 2 of our hens to a bobcat a few weeks ago. Sorry about the loss of your little buddy, Martijn.
Poor little chickens 🐓 So sorry this happened.
Great progress on the cottage, it looks stunning 🤩
So sorry to hear about your loss again, Martijn! Human irresponsible behavior reveals itself once again! Praying for you and the remaining chickens!
Methodical, step by step, one by one. So much solitude in your projects. I just love it when 2 individuals can sit together in silence ❤
I think those moving 'stars' might be Starlink Satellites passing overhead. Your videos are a favourite part of every week Martijn. Thank you for every episode!!
I’m so sorry Martijin
I loved watching your chickens
I could tell you bonded with them
I’m sorry
The stove is absolutely stunning. As well as being functional its a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, well done you. Im so sorry for your loss of your black chicken, its heartbreaking, and I could see how choked you were. If the couple who's dogs attacked your chickens watch your channel I would like to think they would return (without the dogs) and apologise for what happened, and bring some new chickens for you. Your channel is by far one of the best out there, such a pleasure to watch and follow. Looking forward to see you move into the cabin for winter. Best wishes Martijn
I am in awe of you ability to visualize the stove and stairs, draw/plan it out, and make it happen with such a lovely result.
Fantastic that you can sleep indoors.
I used to do that too with my chickens.
The cabin is so stunning , loved seeing the others on your walk and just highlighted what you are saving . Watching the fire and stairs come to life has been so inspiring can't wait to see those beautiful floorboards in and you settling into your home ❤️. I've never seen that starlink before !! What an amazing sight ! And so sorry about the black chicken 😢 we sat here so sad for you !!
Like everyone else I was so saddened by the loss of the sweet black chicken and the injury to the white one. I know they are important to you. You take such good care of them and we all have grown to love them as we love and look forward to your videos. They are top notch. Stay strong as I know you will, we all appreciate you. Best wishes.
Truly sorry for your loss, Martijn. The video content is stunning and the finished stove, stonework and stairs are beautiful. The agony and the ecstasy of homesteading.
In spite of the violence and loss you had to endure , this video was tremendously beautiful! The fireplace is strikingly beautiful! Well planned and well executed! It is Charming with rough edges; lovely artistic combination!
Blessings for a fulfilling week... 😊
violence!!!! ..... geez.
I loved this trio so much... and I especially enjoyed seeing the white one with its tail always with a 90° angle, looking so proud! 😢
Take care.
Every time I watch your videos I'm more amazed. The stone steps around the stove are incredable
Dear Martigen, We are sorry for your loss. Admiring your stoic character. We know you feel this deeply.
Great job!
Respekt was du da geschaffen hast.👍
What a beautiful piece of stonework. The stove and stairs are wonderful and you can really take pride in the work and the beauty of the interior. What a milestone to reach. The floorboards will give such a sense of progress - and occupying the cabin. The interior will become home very quickly I'm sure and the acquisition of furniture will give you a very pleasing aesthetic. Congratulations Martijn - lovely to have watched the journey.
I’m so sorry about your black chicken 😢
When you are feeding them if you make a chock chock sound then when you lose them they will come running home to that sound it will save you time looking for them
From the Philippines, I enjoyed watching you,the scenery is breathtaking love it❤️
I love waking and starting my morning with you and a cup of hot tea. Sunday is my special day because of the beauty and views you have around you. So sorry about your black chicken. People are so inconsiderate allowing their dogs to roam some one else's property. You chickens are your egg source and now you are down 2 from when you started. Your fireplace looks magnificent. You are so creative and what you Invision you create. You are an artist.❤❤❤
Your fireplace looks magnificent. You are amazing. So sad for the loss of your chicken😢 Thanks for taking us on your hike. So many beautiful stone cabins. Look forward to next week. ❤
Oh no! this makes me so sad! I loved seeing the ladies strutting around the property like they owned it.
So sorry for the loss of your black hen and the poor white one losing her tail feathers and gaining a limp, I hope she recovers well. It was so sad and it's obvious that they are your pets and not just a source of eggs to you. I hope you can get some more to keep them warm over the winter. Your stove/staircase is magnificent and it's a huge relief to hear you will be soon moving indoors. The best place to be once the temperatures drop, all your hard work is coming together and thanks for showing us the strange sight of the Starlink Satellites, so eerie!
Not your fault the property is not fenced off, people that have dogs should keep them on a lead if they have a dog that that is like that to wildlife. Glad white hen is recovering and look forward to floor boards and move in next week. Stove and brickwork looks great.👍
White chicken is such a trooper ❤
Saddened by these latest developments events and of course the loss of a productive part of your fsmily. Beautiful work on the stairs and oven, looks just the way you drafted the plan. Truly inspiring piece of work. Being myself a carpenter for 55 years, I can appreciate the work in awe, when work becomes art, there is no words that can express how I feel for this outcome, push on Martijn, we are supportive and appreciative of your accomplisments.. 👍Thank you
Hello Martijn, I'm sorry for the loss of the black chicken. Hope the white get well soon. You doing a great job with the cottage 👍Thank you for this wonderful scenes at the beginning of the video 😍 Wish you a good next week 🍀
everybody is sorry for the chicken but then buys it in supermarket
@@MaximumEfficiencyexactly my thought. Cognitive dissonance.
@@kattihattSomeone's negligence caused the loss of his property. And it took Martijn a while to acclimate those chickens before they began laying. So, it's also a loss of his homestead's productivity/sufficiency.
@@oarsteed sure. But thats not the reason every comment is about the chicken that died. People care about animals. But eating them is not caring about them.
@@kattihattSo your argument is pet chicken that died because of someone else's neglegance = bad because people eat chicken. Not sure how else you'd feel if your pet dying by other people's negligence would make you feel smh.
I‘m so sorry for the loss of the black chicken. In every video, it always makes me happy to see how they‘re doing. I hope the dog owners see this video and at least offer another chicken to you.
Thanks so much for taking us on your hike, the views are breathtaking and fascinating seeing all the abandoned structures.Sorry about your one chicken and thankfully the 2 remain and hoping they both make it through the winter. The stove looks incredible and it should perform very well
Hi Martijn. I am sorry for the lost of your chicken! It is missed. The job you have done in the stairs, the walls, the beams, etc. it is outstanding, congrats. Thank you very much for sharing that.
My moms a big fan of your work
Hey Martijn. I felt warm inside when you said you will move in the cabin next week. I cant wait for you to enjoy a warm night in the amazing place you created. Sorry for you loss. I hope the white chick will make it through winter. Good luck and enjoy the week. See you next Sunday!
Your videos are breathtakingly beautiful and quite a change from Southern California where sunny and warm can become monotonous. Your chickens are very lucky to roam the land, under your feet at times, with such loving care. A free spirit, as yourself knows that a short life lived well is better than a long life in a cage. I'm lucky to have found you and hope you never stop sharing Sunday mornings with us all.
Truth....this.
You could see the rage in you when digging that hole for your chicken. I am very sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry about the chicken you lost this week, and I hope the white chicken makes a full recovery and that both make it through the winter. As usual, your videos inspire and calm the spirit. Thank you for sharing your life with us. Hope you have a good week.
I loved the church on top of the hill and your visit to the old places. It's kind of sad though because of the folks who once lived there and moved on. A nice spiritual momment though, I thought, with the clouds moving by. Your very hard work looks great! Every week is a pleasure to watch.
The only downside to these videos is when the outtro music begins and you know it’s over until next week. Stove is a piece of art, beautiful work!
Sorry for your loss Martijn. My neighbor has a big dog Great Pyrenees mountain dog he protects the chickens from unwanted guests. That's even some humans. But he's a big suck. Stove looks amazing. See if a farmer in the valley can over winter them.
I know you don't like having a dog, but it could help guarding your property and chickens against any predators. I started to cry when I saw the white feathers! God be with you and protect you.🙏❤
Oh, starlink satellites. I've been trying to catch those for a while! Great view.
Martijn I am so sorry about the chickens. On the upside the stove and the stairs are beautiful. The cabin is looking wonderful. Can't wait for you to move in.
