This doesn't work for me. But this comment helped: it's because the shortcut must be used WITHOUT THE LOOPCUT BUTTON SELECTED. For instance you can be in "select mode" and if you type ctrl-r you will get the classic loopcut tool with the scroll button giving you the additional cuts. If you already are in "loopcut mode", typing ctrl-r will just act as a left click.
I'm still in edge loop cut, and I am having a hard time trying to switch back to loop cut. How can I switch back. I accidently activated edge loop cut. I need help. 😫
Hey so i'm making a floating island with a watchtower and i'm onto making the floating island however I accidentally added to many loopcuts. So let's say I have a giant cylinder with loop cuts in it how do I delete a row of loopcuts without messing up the island? Thanks.
Lets say i have 100mm x 10mm x 10mm box. how do i get the loop cut to be exactly 10mm from the edge of the long side. The factor distance tool seems to be a percentage measurement but how can this be in mm instead (or whatever measurements you're working in)?
Best guess would be to add 9 loop cuts and dissolve the unneeded ones that way the 100mm side is divided every I into 10 segments. Or if you add in a single loop cut confirm and then right click to leave it in place, it will be at the 50mm mark, so then you can move it 40 mm in either direction
@@StudioKavod I have tried reset my configuration, but it still didn't work. Now I just open the view->tool setting bar then adjust number of cuts in there, that's pretty convenience too.
@@StudioKavod doesnt work for me either but I use the layout thingy which is used by all programs so it changes all hotkeys I guuess, its crtl C for me but the wheel is for zooming in and out like in all programs.

Wow...ermg thanks for the reply, especially such a quick one. In the version of 2.8 I have? I ask because for me for some reason I have to click control R twice. Could that be a bug or simple me being new to blender?
Well control R is the hotkey, and once that's active you can scroll up and down to increase the number of cuts, but if you grab the active tool it should work as depicted in the video.
Hello. I found your video because I am having issues with the shortcut option. I am in edit mode with the object that I am editing selected. When I press Ctrl + R, however, nothing happens. I can manually click on the loop cut option and it functions as expected. All the tool tips show that Ctrl + R is the correct hotkey and I have even used the "Load Factory Settings" option to no avail. Any Ideas?
thanks for the video but looks like Blender is complete useless for serious modelling (like mechanical or architectural) with accuracy because there is no a metering system anywhere... for example if you have a box 2.5x2.5m and want a loop cut 0.37m from the edge there is no way to do this simple thing unless you need to have a calculator to make mathematical equation to find the percentage you need to place a loop cut... is there any solution for this ???
There may be some add-ons that can help you that are built into blender as well as some that can be purchased. One of these is the measure it add-on which can be found by going to Edit->Preferences->Addons. However, I haven't done any modeling for mechanics or architecture so I can't offer much help there.
CAD Transform, a free add on. Adds precision Cad modelling tools. PDT, MeasureIt, Gridmodeller, and more. There are a host of tools for precision modelling. While Blender was NOT designed for precision modelling (which isn't necessarily serious modelling, you try to make an artistic scene with fog and god rays and make it look like it's been rendered to photorealistic standards, and you'll find that PBR modelling is even HARDER than precision modelling in Blender), it still can fulfill that need. Now, it's not necessarily AS good as some of the engineering cad softwares, that you can buy... for a LOT OF MONEY... But it's free, it does more than any cad modelling software, but it can do a fair amount of basic to advanced precision modelling. In short: Ctrl-R to do a loop cut slice.
Which is the equivalent of 'Swift loop' in 3ds Max

The operator panel will always appear on the left side after you make any operation. But it only allows you to affect the last completed operation.

Alt + Select will let you select an edge ring, then you just have to press X and then dissolve the edges.
