Same over here, i’ve born in the 90’s and when I started getting into music and trash metal, just discovered Metallica and till today it’s still my favorite band, and for me the passing of Cliff was tragic and sad because he inspired me to play the bass and when I see videos of him on UA-cam or listening to the first three records I just imagine how it would be to having him around today playing and making music, so sad but as James says God bless mister Cliff burton.

He changed the role of bass, it wasn't a necessary evil anymore, he gave it legs to literally lead the entire song both rhythmically and melodically. All of Cliff's writing was a masterpiece in melody, Orion being one of my (and I'd presume also Cliff's) favorite examples. Simply lovely.

I wouldn't say he changed the role of bass. Jazz musicians and such have been doing this way prior to this, but i will say that cliff was one of the first in metal to figure out how to play bass properly and imploment the melodic features needed for good metal bass.

You nailed it man. That's one of my go-to videos when I want to jam early 80s Metallica. That moment when he turns n looks at Lars and waves em bk in...I'm gettin ready. I know that wah-induced absolute screamer of a bend is coming in hot like it hits some kinda sonic overload n almost cracks. Cliff gets the whole crowd banging with it. That exact moment in time with Cliff banging his head so hard he looks like a denim tornado puts everything right again

The video is from 85 Day on the Green in Oakland. Pretty sure it was on Cliff Em All. He does some jiving around on his bass doin the intro to For Whom the Bell Tolls and he stepped on that f'n wah pedal and hit that bend...It always puts chills up my spine. It's f'n lethal dude. On the second loop around the intro bass part Cliff starts hammering the D n G strings and then bends those MFers almost right off the fret board of his bass and it goes nuclear man. It's my favorite Metallica live moment. Fuck yea denim tornado puts it about right cuz he's gettin off. Definitely a badass Cliff spot. What a f'n band they were bk then. Damn next year will be 40 years. But yea dude chk that out it's killer!

@@miahthorpatrick1013 That moment just runs chills up my spine. I'm not the biggest Metallica fan either, bc their albums got worse n worse after Cliff died. But that whole concert is good but OMG holy shit when he waves the band bk in and he's playing the intro to Bell Tolls there's alot of cool places to watch
(I play guitar and bass) but at the end of the opening bass runs, right before the others come in and he's hitting that lick where he's hammering off the D and G strings and then pulls that bend...😳🫡. That bend, he almost pulled the strings off the fret board dude. And with that wah pedal it just hits a perfect scream. It literally sounds like his amp is about to blow up. It's the coolest part of a metal song live I've ever heard. The crowd just loses control man. Cliff is banging so f'n hard too. One of the best to ever do it! I'm glad other ppl see it and bk me. I usd to think like "I wonder if other musicians are seeing this" and apparently so. Thanks brother!

When see people are artist like this I wonder what they would be like if they hadn't passed away. It's honestly existential and sometimes kinda depressing to think about. But it really bugs me to sit and think what would they be like, would they still be doing the same thing they were then, would they still act the same etc etc.

He left so soon.Think about he never lived to see the success of the band.
He was a young guy. What he lived was until 1986.😮😢
