I immediately went to listen to the studio version of Fade to Black, and now I can suddenly hear the bass solo. Very buried in the mix, but it's there. I listened to Fade to Black for years and until now I didn't hear it at all. YOU ARE AMAZING, BROTHER.
@@irushforth I just went back and listened to the song, and it is buried, but I heard it in the context of the song for the first time. Wild stuff, exactly the kind of thing I enjoy, finding new things in my favorite songs I never heard before.
All those times listening to live Fade to Black with that bass intro always made me wonder why it’s playing. Now that this shows us that it was Cliff playing that intro all along just shows that Cliff has always with us since the beginning on the song. Even more appreciation to have for this song now, we miss you Cliff \m/
dude that is super crazy cliff is always the master at hiding bass solos and making them sound like a guitar playing in the background I never even knew this was him
Look at how far we've come. I remember listening to these bass tracks and comparing them to tabs on Ultimate Guitar tabs 14-15 years ago. The tabs were never right, but it gave you an idea on where to start.
I remember those times. Yeah, that’s the best we could have and it was a starting point. However, some of those old tabs had ingrained in our brians some mistakes that we still can’t unlearn, even with all these advancements and isolated tracks.
At first I thought that in the live version of fade to black there was like a chord progression (kind of edit with samples or something) from the end to give James and the team time to adjust things like the acoustic guitar, but now that Fortnite did something right in its existence I can realize that apparently it is a bass solo in the song and that Cliff did it about 40 years ago, and we are just now realizing it, it is incredible everything that Cliff offered and it is a shame that he left so young (RIP Legend)
Sorry my comments keep disappearing, Cliff played in the band True Temper from 82-85 you can find a live recording on Metallica's museum. A channel called "Gomez Grip" has interviews with the band members
@@Yeahuy Without your track I can hear something that can be it, but you know it better than me : MOAR BASS ! edit : tbh I don't really know if I hear it, looks like my brain is hard imagining this part to me lol

Kill Em All is pretty good like the other guy said, but I do also think Master of Puppets does an okay job. Still low though, and bass that low on Ktulu is a crime. Also a bit weird that they moved to SF for their freak bass player and then turned him down.
@@mikekashouty516 Same. I can hear the bass on all Metallica albums except Justice. Sure they aren't as loud and in front like Iron Maiden albums but it is audible.

WHEN WE GONNA GET the Cliff's tapes i figure we'll find heaps of similar stuff! This solo is literally inaudible, but it totally adds to the oomph of the overall sound.
Since i uploaded the isolated bass part from fortnite, i hope this can reach to more people who have heard multiple isolated tracks from maybe guitar hero metallica, but now we can hear the last "buried" part which is actually really good in all it's glory, you also can get the Multitracks from the link i have in the video description, cheers!
Kinda wondering if he played it with a pick in the studio to get that attack (not an uncommon recording technique). Hard to get that scraping over round wounds sound without one
The bass solo sounds suspiciously similar to the harmony in the middle section in Soldiers of the Wasteland by Dragonforce (around 5:06). Just listen to the song and you'll see the similarities yourselves
@@YourLocalJamesHetfieldFangirl ikr. I just noticed the similarities between the two songs, and I'm definitely not saying that Melattica ripped off DragonForce song
Probably the bass was supposed to be played on the end and since it sounds a lot like a guitar (a 4 string bass is tuned like the first 4 strings on a guitar, just an octave down. After the twelveth fret it way sound exactly like a guitar.), it got lost in the studio mix. I just came from revisiting a version of the entire Rtl album with the bass boosted (a pretty good mix tho ua-cam.com/video/MArFeWrocEE/v-deo.htmlsi=tRNXDR9j9s2qQJn4) and I couldn't listen to it.

Hasn't Rob played something like this live as a solo??? I feel like I've heard it before
Maybe, gotta check. Or maybe you mix it up with the tape theyve been playing before Fade to Black live for a few years

Rob has played this live a few times before the start of fade. His bass tone when he does it would knock the fillings outta your teeth as well

where was the solo put in the studio track?
It's under the guitar solo right before the fade. You don't think about it since it sounds like supporting guitar harmonies.
