i feel like this episode is so underrated. i love how intimate and closed off it is and how it's mostly all of the sibs at the same place, same time. actually one of my favorites
The donuts are the wildest emotional plot device I've ever seen if you think about it. I think it's because my dad used to get me and my siblings donuts on the weekends when we were little and I have fond memories of that. The way it's used here by Logan is so sinister, it just brings his presence right into the room. and the episode hinges on it like the vote of no confidence in that Ken almost had them if Logan wasn't in the room. because of the donuts. the effect is immediate. WILD.
This is the highlight of my day right now. I’ve been in the hospital for almost a month now, and I have so much longer to be here. So the fact that you are uploading these videos is such a blessing for me.
Let's be honest. The kids are no better than their father. Kendall's fatal flaw (apart from being an addict and lacking self-control) is that he thinks he's better than Logan. It's a coping mechanism. Deep down, he knows he's a failure. But if he can prove he's a tortured messiah, maybe that will make it okay. That's why Shiv dislikes him - she's the exact same way. It's like looking at a stupider version of herself through a window. Kendall lacks self-awareness and Shiv sees right through him. But she sees herself on the other side.
You hit the nail on the head so well. Kendall wants to be a martyr and savior so bad because of his ego instead of coming up with his own idea and starting his own thing. And we are meant to feel bad for him because he considers taking over the company his fix. Kendall and Shiv are two sides of the same coin and seeing Kendall and so many viewers try to act like Kendall is morally superior to Shiv and everyone else on this show is laughable.
Rewatching this with y'all makes me remember how much of a prick Kendall can be. I think if all of the kids could have gotten along, they'd go for it with Kendall, but their dad got in their heads with donuts. Morally I think Kendall is right in the war against Logan but that doesn't mean he's a safe bet for the long term. Roman, Shiv, and Connor also know this. The fact that his choice was essentially spontaneous also didn't sit right with them. He comes off erratic even though I love Kendall.
@@DanLanningPRTeam and you think Kendall wants Shiv to be happy? Shiv has never been offered any real power and so we never get to see Kendall undermine her. But he definitely would.
I think mainly with Roman, the context of episode 1 is also important. If yall remember he was outside of the company, did not really care for the corporate world, all of this - is ofc to an extent important to him, but it is nowhere near as important as for Ken or Shiv in my opinion. And if you add to it the context of him liking his dad probably the most out of the kids, the incentive for him to screw his dad is lower than for the rest..coz I d argue for him its more important to havea good relationship with his dad than to take over. Also like..they are billionaires thanks to their dad, and Roman seems to be more aware of the fact that he d be nothing without his dad, than the rest of the kids.
I dont think the kids “want” to be abused i mean I dont think anyone does. I think for those unfamiliar with how these families work its hard to understand. Think about it though this is the only kind of love the kids are used to. They have been shaped by Logan’s treatment. This is what they think love is, and if you look at the other relationships they have, they are not much better. Shiv and Tom have neglectful marriage full of lies. Roman’s perception of love is clearly messed up. Kendall barely knows his kids’ names and mistreated Rava. Absolutely none of them have true friends. When you are loved and treated so horribly by those around you it becomes the only thing you know how to accept and the only thing you know how to give. You can unlearn it, but none of them have done any healing. (just realized I forgot about Connor omg so sorry Con lolz)
Definitely this. They are in an abusive relationship with their father and they all have false confidence because they're rich and have to tell themselves they're okay but really everyone is severely unwell.
on top of the kids being *scared* of betraying their dad, they still think they have a better chance of being ceo if they stay on his side. he’s made false promises of that to them; kendall hasn’t promised them anything until this moment. plus, kendall’s out of the race now, so shiv and roman’s chances just got better it’s feared coupled with selfishness, plus a (greg) sprinkle of resentment
@@igs_ Yes although to be more specific, I'm mad about the room that was chosen for said conversation. The conversation itself was fine. I just take issue with the location.
I love Marcia and I love her appearance this episode. She always makes sure she’s taken care of and somehow comes out on top which is almost impossible to do w Logan. I have so much respect for her and how far she’s gotten herself. Plus it must be so hard to be married to Logan she deserves that compensation!
Agh it annoyed me when Kendall kept all siblings in a room to convince them to team up with him knowing exactly that they will go with the dad he could have lost Lisa that was gonna annoy me cause we know Kendall might not win but we don’t need to see him fail immediately I mean he wasn’t paying enough attention to Lisa the person who’s obviously decided to be on his side of the war 😭
this is so on point lol i've always associated logan with tywin lannister 😂 just an absolute evil man that treats his kids like shit but u just respect his grind
I don't keep it a secret. Logan is the only honest person in that entire family. It's his fault that his children are idiots, but that doesn't make them any better than him.
I will never get the point of trying to take the company away from Logan when you can just create your own. Logan is a horrible person and worse as a father, and this proves Kendall is the same way too. And I feel like Kendall never grew up and he seems like a child trying to please his father (mostly s1) and now he’s trying to be better than his father and use I’m a good person card but he’s literally the same as him.

Shiv annoys me I mean as soon as her Dad didn’t choose her she goes to Kendall and tries to take over there? She just wants to be on the winning side and play boss And why?she literally has no experience it makes no sense plus I don’t think she genuinely likes Kendall why would she want to team up with him to begin with . If she really wants to be owner she should have the guts to do something or create something by herself not just jump on which ever team is winning and take ownership I honestly feel like she should just go back to politics and leave the company cause there’s no way she’s taking over and it seems like that’s all she wants

i agree! episodes focused on the siblings dynamics are some of my favorite of the whole show

Shiv would rather live in hell than let Kendall enjoy purgatory

It drives me nuts that they met in Sophia's bedroom. I'm sure there's other private rooms in that giant penthouse. Respect her privacy.
Possibly a reference to In the Loop, which Jesse Armstrong co-wrote
Kendall is just as bad a father as Logan is, only without the accomplishments
Youre mad about a conversation happening in a room
They’re ultimately grown-children, so having this high stakes in his daughters room was an interesting decision.

Kendall would have been taken the company twice over if his siblings weren't chicken shit.
Awesome reaction of my favorite episode of Succession!!!!😊😊😊😊
Many thanks to Zuff, Rob & Bryce! 💸 Mark Mylod directed this one.
I’m not gonna lie but I really like Logan just for how well he is able to manipulate Roman and shiv against each other and keep power and control
