It also refers to the fact that love is NOT a feeling at ANY level, even though it's closely associated with feelings. Rather, it is a conscious decision to care for someone even if they drive you nuts. It's a commitment to sacrifice for someone even when they evoke a lot of negative emotions. When a child makes a mistake and is terrified that they will lose their parent's love, and the parent has to remind them that while they may be disappointed with the child's recent actions, they will always love their child, that's agape. The other forms of love can be cooled, but true agape love cannot be. Even if you have to cut a toxic person out of your life, maintaining a hope that they will one day be able to turn their life around--strictly for their own good, not in the hope of restoring the relationship you once had with them--that is agape love. The end of a relationship does not mean the end of agape. Agape is the form of love most willing to endure pain for the sake of others, even those who don't reciprocate. Agape love is the greatest strength one can have.

I saw an episode of Doctor who where Clara had to explain a whole bunch of sci-fi stuff in a single word, and that combined with the point on Agape to make a character that only said single words at a time. They could be prompted to elaborate, but you’d have to state what he said back to him, and he’d either nod or shake his head and continue. If I used it in a pony related story, I’d try and have him communicate *extremely* well with Big Mac. Like, normal people wouldn’t follow either of them when they talked, because they both understood the world in a different way.
8:25 D&D wouldn't be something I would expect of Big Mac. He just seemed like one who focuses on the simple things like hoofball. Spike I would understand because he's been in an intellectual world his entire life being with Twilight, all the students and teachers of Celestia's school and also some nobles.
Big Mac is one of my favorite characters in the show, I would say probably my second favorite or even first. I’ve adored his character since I was a little kid and watching him grow and get married made me so proud lmao
I don't know whether I am a healthy lover or not. It is up to me to find that truth but I hope that there are more people with this awareness than people who can't see themselves for what they are. I see that my flaws exist even if I don't have a concrete way to fix them but I can't say the same for others.
Not gonna lie i thought a final thing you'd be happy seeing the show tackle is Cheerlie's reaction to Sugar Belle as well. Considering we (if memory serves), never got a conclusion back in Filli Vanilli if Cheerlie and Big Mac were gonna be an item or not so it'd be interesting to see where the book mare and stallion go from there. I won't hide i've always been a CheeriMac supporter since hearts and hooves day and always thought an amazing arc for the two of them could be Cheerlie maybe helping Mac complete University and becoming an even greater influence in Equestria, i dunno maybe an Apple businessman and starting his own apple franchise or something sharing the apple family goods around the world, that could be a way he feels more "Valuable" if that's the right word tho he already is. And seeing a book pony like cheerlie get down and dirty in the farm and meeting all of the apples would have been hilarious not to mention the interesting and potentially heartwarming dynamic of Apple Bloom possibly having her teacher for a sister but i digress....oh well. 5:20 The defining feature of Storge is that it's unconditional. No matter what happens you will never become a stranger to your family. Love can easily be turned into hate and vice versa but it can never go away. Friendships can end and people can have a cordial relationship again but that can not happen with family. Storge denotes the bond that exists between family members that doesn't have any reason to exist. The other forms have either a responsibility or a shared interest but not storge. It is something that just exists and will always exist no matter what the circumstances. That is why family draws out our more extreme emotions since there is the feeling that it is safe to do so. With friends there is always the risk they'll abandon us so we hold in our most extreme emotions. But with family that danger doesn't exist so we express ourselves freely; but for better and for worse.
It's wonderful you finally got around to addressing the merits of Big McIntosh. Honestly addressing the balance of the Lover, the Magician, the Warrior, and the King really has been insightful. Not only into Big Mac but into myself. As the eldest of my siblings (ironically until about 15 years ago it was myself at the helm with my two little sisters until my brother came along). I've always struggled with being the one loyal to the family, trying to do what's right and trying to pursue things that bring me joy but without taking my attention from what's important beyond that. More so despite wanting so badly to feel "Free" to be myself I end up finding myself feeling more "at peace" if i'm doing things for others rather than to gratify myself as it makes me feel as if I've validated myself by doing for others first without expecting anything in return. Continuing with the connection: I've had a few very select group of friends over the years who have had more diverse means of enjoying themselves and a more firm foundation in their sense of self, and we used to periodically connect a few times a month in order to have a "Guys Night" (in our case it was Yu-Gi-Oh aka Duel Monsters / Video Games / Paint Ball for a brief time rather than a rousing game of DnD). Those days sadly came to an end a bit more than a half-decade ago and we just grew apart for unknown reasons. At the same time much like Zephyr Breeze I sometimes get so caught up in the moment that when I become frustrated I can sometimes give up too easily (which honestly makes me proud that I went through and graduated college even though doing so didn't get me into the field I had studied so hard for, but also proud of how I've done as a UA-camr despite not having much financial success or popularity from it just yet though going on my 3rd year as a content creator with 216 videos and counting), but also connecting with Trouble Shoes in that I feel disconnected from people and can end up in a funk where expressing joy of any kind becomes a burden rather than a natural form of being. The struggle of what I feel like I am on the inside versus how I perceive myself on the outside is a constant struggle that makes living in general very difficult at times, especially in trying to pursue any form of long-term career (but that's also for other reasons I won't get into). Much like Big Mac I've had a number of marefriends over the years, and more often than not those connections started hot and burned out quickly. As much as I hate to say it the last burn out kind of damaged my concept of what it means to love and be loved in a romantic sense pretty badly, which is ironic considering i'm a pre-metamorphosed changeling and we kind of need love to survive. Honestly I related way too much to a couple of short clips you showed: The first (perhaps not in the order shown) being when Big Mac was speaking to Sugar Belle in order to tell her how he respected her decision and was not going to hold it against her because he still cared about her and always would even if those feelings changed over time (though not necessarily in that specific way or context), the second being the pain on Marble Pie's face when she saw Big Mac had found a special somepony and it wasn't her...…. I've been in both boats and it's not easy either way. Not to be selfish or self-centered but to go back to my last bad burn out: it wasn't just a girlfriend...…. it was a full blown fiance'.... so I can totally relate to that feeling of utter heartbreak and internal turmoil of not knowing what to say or think.... and yet still subconsciously being happy for them and hoping the absolute best for whoever earns their heart & love in the future. Anyways it's really awesome that you've gotten around to this. I know you've had more on your plate with trying to do things yourself so your content hasn't been coming out as much as we used to see, especially since you stopped doing as many collaborations so you could focus on your own videos. It's been a treat to see the role of the Lover archetype being touched on and expanded upon in a more neutral way addressing sides of masculinity in the Toxic and Passive forms as well as what Big Mac is in the Grounded or Balanced form. I do hope he'll do a good job on the king since the values of the king are very much at odds with Silver's personal views. Silver strongly believes in personal freedom and the king is all about restricting personal freedom. What the king does is create an ideal for others to rally around and to suppress their own desires in the name of the common good. Maybe it's hard to believe but many people actually feel happier living under the name of someone else than their own. There is such a thing as too much freedom which leads to a feeling of being lost and worthless.

I'm hoping for you to continue these archetype videos, I love to listen to them and then think on them. It makes me wonder, who best represents the Warrior Architype and I'm about to do some research on what the warrior's shadows are. Keep up the good work sport.
Silver's analysis always leaves me agreeing with the vast majority of what he says whether I know about it beforehand or not. I know I'm coming to this a day late, but certain things in life are keeping me busy at the moment. Nothing relationship related. I think in some aspects, I can see myself in different places that Big Mac as the example has been or is now as a person. I've always been over talkative, and I try to speak up about important things while letting other things go, but it's very difficult. As the same time, I'm not very emotionally connected but I try to have love of all things, even when I fail more often than not. I've wondered more than once about moving on from some of my friends because of strained issues they blame me for, although none of them tried to talk to me when I needed it. I still see some of them a couple of times a week, although I can't imagine anything going back to the way things were before. There is just too much anger in both directions. (Not that I don't forgive their ignorance.) But they and the other people I play Magic the Gathering with are my main social outlet outside of my family. I'm rambling, but i guess what i'm saying is that Silver in his great wisdom has once again helped me to see something about myself. He deserves a lot of praise for being so inciteful and funny at the same time.
I would love it if you made a video or video series detailing the different archetypes of both the male and, if you can, female psyche. This is fascinating, and you tell it really well.
I kept trying to think of something meaningful to say, but my mind keeps coming up blank. Best thing I can say is that I always really liked Big Mac's character. He seems like just the nicest guy.

Being aromantic, this misconception that romantic love is the only love (and therefore underlining the necessity for romantic relationships) plagues me. Even though I can't feel romantic love (and feel physically sick in a romantic situation), I still can find the fulfillment of love in other means. Personal passions, family, and friends all bring me that same satisfaction as romantic love does for others. Again, thank you for exploring and explaining the whole nature of love. I might start linking people here so they can better understand that my romantic orientation doesn't make me a hollow husk; you explained the Greek tiers of love really well!

I like to think of BigMac as a 'horn-chaser'; he has a thing for unicorns He dreams of being an alicorn (which includes wings and a horn, he plays a unicorn in his table top game, and now he's dating a unicorn.
As born and bred country boy I really relate to Big Mac. Hard working, loyal, and lover of family. Nothing is more important to me then family, country, and my town and yes I dare say I love all of these. Another way to describe Big Mac could be Peace Maker as Big Mac is a character that all of the ponies can relate too and talk too.....Starlight not with standing of course. I come from a very tight knit but also at times argumattove family and at times I have to act the Peace Maker especially as I get older, so when I'm told my little cousins all look up to me like a brother...it means a lot. This again why I think Big Mac is my favorite Stallion of the series. His two part Micro series in the comics made me appreciate him even more especially the frustrations we good ole boys go through just to accomplish a basic task. I thank you for this Silver Quill because you have affirmed for me why looking at Big Mac is like looking in a mirror.

i think kouga was an excellent reference point for this topic, he's quiet and standoffish but he cares for those around him and will defend those that cannot defend themselves such as his wife kaoru. and like you said we people expect men to be these grizzled powerful symbols of masculinity but really that line of thinking pushes true genuine and healthy masculinity to the wayside and makes us truly uncaring individuals, and i think the makai order's teachings really give them a true understanding of agape to the point that some just take it too far and can be broken with just the wrong push, (looking at you jinga)

Another good After the fact. I wonder if Batman the animated series Mr. Freeze would be a good villainous interpretation on the Lovers Archetype? Despite Freeze seemingly being a cold and calculating villain, everything he does he does for his wife even if that means threatening, stealing or murdering any that get in his way. He even acknowledged that if he does manage to revive and cure his wife that there is a chance that she may hate him for the monster he has become ether physically or by his crimes. But Freeze still is willing to accept it if it means saving her. Probably the reason he became one of Batman’s most popular foes.

And here's a real risky thing for they show too do, they don't marry but are a long term couple who have one. Some of the best parents/couple I know are unmarried and have been together longer then I know.

The defining feature of Storge is that it's unconditional. No matter what happens you will never become a stranger to your family. Love can easily be turned into hate and vice versa but it can never go away. Friendships can end and people can have a cordial relationship again but that can not happen with family. Storge denotes the bond that exists between family members that doesn't have any reason to exist. The other forms have either a responsibility or a shared interest but not storge. It is something that just exists and will always exist no matter what the circumstances.
That is why family draws out our more extreme emotions since there is the feeling that it is safe to do so. With friends there is always the risk they'll abandon us so we hold in our most extreme emotions. But with family that danger doesn't exist so we express ourselves freely; but for better and for worse.
It's wonderful you finally got around to addressing the merits of Big McIntosh. Honestly addressing the balance of the Lover, the Magician, the Warrior, and the King really has been insightful. Not only into Big Mac but into myself. As the eldest of my siblings (ironically until about 15 years ago it was myself at the helm with my two little sisters until my brother came along). I've always struggled with being the one loyal to the family, trying to do what's right and trying to pursue things that bring me joy but without taking my attention from what's important beyond that. More so despite wanting so badly to feel "Free" to be myself I end up finding myself feeling more "at peace" if i'm doing things for others rather than to gratify myself as it makes me feel as if I've validated myself by doing for others first without expecting anything in return. Continuing with the connection: I've had a few very select group of friends over the years who have had more diverse means of enjoying themselves and a more firm foundation in their sense of self, and we used to periodically connect a few times a month in order to have a "Guys Night" (in our case it was Yu-Gi-Oh aka Duel Monsters / Video Games / Paint Ball for a brief time rather than a rousing game of DnD). Those days sadly came to an end a bit more than a half-decade ago and we just grew apart for unknown reasons.
At the same time much like Zephyr Breeze I sometimes get so caught up in the moment that when I become frustrated I can sometimes give up too easily (which honestly makes me proud that I went through and graduated college even though doing so didn't get me into the field I had studied so hard for, but also proud of how I've done as a UA-camr despite not having much financial success or popularity from it just yet though going on my 3rd year as a content creator with 216 videos and counting), but also connecting with Trouble Shoes in that I feel disconnected from people and can end up in a funk where expressing joy of any kind becomes a burden rather than a natural form of being. The struggle of what I feel like I am on the inside versus how I perceive myself on the outside is a constant struggle that makes living in general very difficult at times, especially in trying to pursue any form of long-term career (but that's also for other reasons I won't get into).
Much like Big Mac I've had a number of marefriends over the years, and more often than not those connections started hot and burned out quickly. As much as I hate to say it the last burn out kind of damaged my concept of what it means to love and be loved in a romantic sense pretty badly, which is ironic considering i'm a pre-metamorphosed changeling and we kind of need love to survive. Honestly I related way too much to a couple of short clips you showed: The first (perhaps not in the order shown) being when Big Mac was speaking to Sugar Belle in order to tell her how he respected her decision and was not going to hold it against her because he still cared about her and always would even if those feelings changed over time (though not necessarily in that specific way or context), the second being the pain on Marble Pie's face when she saw Big Mac had found a special somepony and it wasn't her...…. I've been in both boats and it's not easy either way. Not to be selfish or self-centered but to go back to my last bad burn out: it wasn't just a girlfriend...…. it was a full blown fiance'.... so I can totally relate to that feeling of utter heartbreak and internal turmoil of not knowing what to say or think.... and yet still subconsciously being happy for them and hoping the absolute best for whoever earns their heart & love in the future.
Anyways it's really awesome that you've gotten around to this. I know you've had more on your plate with trying to do things yourself so your content hasn't been coming out as much as we used to see, especially since you stopped doing as many collaborations so you could focus on your own videos. It's been a treat to see the role of the Lover archetype being touched on and expanded upon in a more neutral way addressing sides of masculinity in the Toxic and Passive forms as well as what Big Mac is in the Grounded or Balanced form. Always a treat to see these types of videos and your content my fine feathered Hipogriff. /) (\

I do hope he'll do a good job on the king since the values of the king are very much at odds with Silver's personal views. Silver strongly believes in personal freedom and the king is all about restricting personal freedom. What the king does is create an ideal for others to rally around and to suppress their own desires in the name of the common good. Maybe it's hard to believe but many people actually feel happier living under the name of someone else than their own. There is such a thing as too much freedom which leads to a feeling of being lost and worthless.

Silver's analysis always leaves me agreeing with the vast majority of what he says whether I know about it beforehand or not. I know I'm coming to this a day late, but certain things in life are keeping me busy at the moment. Nothing relationship related.
I think in some aspects, I can see myself in different places that Big Mac as the example has been or is now as a person. I've always been over talkative, and I try to speak up about important things while letting other things go, but it's very difficult. As the same time, I'm not very emotionally connected but I try to have love of all things, even when I fail more often than not.
I've wondered more than once about moving on from some of my friends because of strained issues they blame me for, although none of them tried to talk to me when I needed it. I still see some of them a couple of times a week, although I can't imagine anything going back to the way things were before. There is just too much anger in both directions. (Not that I don't forgive their ignorance.) But they and the other people I play Magic the Gathering with are my main social outlet outside of my family.
I'm rambling, but i guess what i'm saying is that Silver in his great wisdom has once again helped me to see something about myself. He deserves a lot of praise for being so inciteful and funny at the same time.
I would love it if you made a video or video series detailing the different archetypes of both the male and, if you can, female psyche. This is fascinating, and you tell it really well.
I kept trying to think of something meaningful to say, but my mind keeps coming up blank. Best thing I can say is that I always really liked Big Mac's character. He seems like just the nicest guy.

Thank you so, so much for exploring the various types of love. Being aromantic, this misconception that romantic love is the only love (and therefore underlining the necessity for romantic relationships) plagues me. Even though I can't feel romantic love (and feel physically sick in a romantic situation), I still can find the fulfillment of love in other means. Personal passions, family, and friends all bring me that same satisfaction as romantic love does for others.
Again, thank you for exploring and explaining the whole nature of love. I might start linking people here so they can better understand that my romantic orientation doesn't make me a hollow husk; you explained the Greek tiers of love really well!

I like to think of BigMac as a 'horn-chaser'; he has a thing for unicorns He dreams of being an alicorn (which includes wings and a horn, he plays a unicorn in his table top game, and now he's dating a unicorn.
As born and bred country boy I really relate to Big Mac. Hard working, loyal, and lover of family. Nothing is more important to me then family, country, and my town and yes I dare say I love all of these. Another way to describe Big Mac could be Peace Maker as Big Mac is a character that all of the ponies can relate too and talk too.....Starlight not with standing of course. I come from a very tight knit but also at times argumattove family and at times I have to act the Peace Maker especially as I get older, so when I'm told my little cousins all look up to me like a brother...it means a lot. This again why I think Big Mac is my favorite Stallion of the series. His two part Micro series in the comics made me appreciate him even more especially the frustrations we good ole boys go through just to accomplish a basic task. I thank you for this Silver Quill because you have affirmed for me why looking at Big Mac is like looking in a mirror.

i think kouga was an excellent reference point for this topic, he's quiet and standoffish but he cares for those around him and will defend those that cannot defend themselves such as his wife kaoru. and like you said we people expect men to be these grizzled powerful symbols of masculinity but really that line of thinking pushes true genuine and healthy masculinity to the wayside and makes us truly uncaring individuals, and i think the makai order's teachings really give them a true understanding of agape to the point that some just take it too far and can be broken with just the wrong push, (looking at you jinga)

I wonder if Batman the animated series Mr. Freeze would be a good villainous interpretation on the Lovers Archetype? Despite Freeze seemingly being a cold and calculating villain, everything he does he does for his wife even if that means threatening, stealing or murdering any that get in his way. He even acknowledged that if he does manage to revive and cure his wife that there is a chance that she may hate him for the monster he has become ether physically or by his crimes. But Freeze still is willing to accept it if it means saving her. Probably the reason he became one of Batman’s most popular foes.
