I like that you explain the ‘why’s’ of your paint selections. For example, stating you used Rhinox Hide because it is a purple brown and purple compliments green’ which is an overall theme to the base. I appreciate that.
I'm starting a Death Guard army (just finished my AdMech) and this is something i'm definitely going to try out! I've never really done basing for my minis before (i slapped on vallejo ground texture paste and tossed in a rock here and there, ew, i know) but the plague marines i think will be worth it. Thank you for this tip, i'll be sure to use as much of it as is applicable!
Great video, as always! Perhaps an idea for a next one: many of these guides work great for separate bases, but are complicated to set up on pre-attached bases (the stuff you get with board games). If you have any ideas of stuff that could be done simply without too much risk getting all over the mini?
My kids would have pigment all over the floor if I stored it that way. It’s unfortunate, because it would be so much more convenient to do it the way Vince does.
Could this work for pools of bubbling molten gold or other metals? I could see a little dab of true metallic paint making the bubble-tops work (where it's all highlight), but seems like a challenge to sell over top of the rest of the pool of resin 🤔
I think that the most common reason why people just slap a flat piece of cork on bases is because most models that don't come with their special bases are meant to go on a flat surface. I've actually ran into some problems with this myself because I went bit off the rails with my bases when I got into 3d printing but quite a lot of the models in my library just don't work with the more interesting and naturally uneven ground that I enjoy making. Now it's not hard to just create elevation for the other foot and make it look good but most people don't want to do problem solving when basing.
It's a fair point, one way to get the best of both worlds is to still use the cork, place the model, mark the feet, then chip away all around that (which is basically what I did here).
I'd love to see a video of adding the guy to this base and how you combine them to make it not look like different things glued together! Pigments? dry brushing? do you pin it through or just crazy glue?
Hello, great video and i really like this nurglish stiled base! I need help finding alternatives for a couple of colors that are hard to find here where I live. What color can I replace bilious green and ice yellow with? Those are the hardest to find but also the sepia ink is quite hard to get! Thanks a lot :)
Ice Yellow is available in lots of ranges and even GW has a bright yellow replacement. The off-green, just anything that is yellow-green (Vallejo has plenty) will work fine.
Largest and one of the best. Older videos aren't the best, but that's stuff Vince has clearly taken care of over time. Even his old videos, camera is iffy, but his narration is fantastic. ...I think I'm becoming a fanboy
Funnily enough I was gonna try something very similar, kept the silicon gel to try make them as bubbles but with water effects (since don't have uv light/resin) good to know that this works
OMG! I was about to start looking for some tutorials for Nurgle bases for my Plague Marines and I saw this video on my subscription fees as I opened UA-cam 🤪🤪🤪 Papa Nurgle have just blessed me this day 🤢🤮🤒

Vince walking the undivided path and embracing all the gods is just a sign for the big ghost-pirate-skaven-cast book series "the venturella heresy" whith Tyler as his khainite sidekick and Tom as the dwarven emperor
I'll see what I can do, but small areas are generally easier, you need to blend less, as your eyes will resolve them easier if you just kind of futz the paint together.
I checked out the silicone brush link this is a year after the posting of this video and now in the description of those brushes it says for epoxy resin and crafting LOL the picture still show a lady doing her makeup but the first two sentences are arts and crafts taglines LOL way to go vince!
I’ve been saving all the silica from everything since I saw that first video a while back. Ya know, just in case I decide to drop $500+ on a Nurgle army. Wait a second. I have Pestilens stuff. YAY!
Yo Vince! Red is still not complementary color to green by very definition of the term complementary color. Please check grammar. Nevertheless that base came out super awesome, and that looks like very fun and efficient way to make bases. Thanks for the video!
So Red is a complimentary color to green using the additive RYB color wheel (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complementary_colors) - Glad the video was helpful. :)
@@VinceVenturella Thanks for the reply! :) Right in the beginning of the page you linked it says: "Complementary colors are pairs of colors which, when combined or mixed, cancel each other out (lose hue) by producing a grayscale color...". Won't be getting that with red & green.
Hi. I've noticed something about your videos: Your audio mix is turned down lower than just about every other video from other makers. I'll turn up my volume for your videos and when the next one comes up . . . well, you can imagine. If it's not something that'll cause you a great deal of hassle or expense you might consider increasing the volume on your videos.
@@VinceVenturella I noticed that your audio mix is a little off. The "jingle" at the start of your videos often is way louder than the rest, but not every time. Other than that: Your videos are great and I really love watching them. I learned a lot from you :)
That uv resin+silica gel trick is genius
👆 what he said!
Thank you, very glad to be of help. :)
@@VinceVenturella hey Vince I have the green UV resin would Vallejo flourescent green over that give the same effect?
I opened a silica package and it had crystals in it. So I went with it, they look pretty cool with a metallic lime.

Great suggestion! I'll see what I can do.
UV curing resin seems to be also pretty popular with garage kits. From fixing pinholes and small imperfections to coating the eyeballs for a wet look.
Yep, it's great.
Very nice, the only thing I would have done different is to add some blood to the base seeing as the Nurgle mini had open wounds.
That would have been a good touch. :)
1:44. Interesting. I assume bigger color shaper should work in the same way (should be the same stuff). Will try that next time I put a texture paste.
Yep
This trick with silica gel bubbles works also with acrylic clear resin. I like the idea with palette for dry pigments. Why I didn’t do it this way?
My kids would have pigment all over the floor if I stored it that way. It’s unfortunate, because it would be so much more convenient to do it the way Vince does.
Yep, it sure could, and it's a great way to store those pigments (just keep them in a drawer safely so you don't make a mess.). :)
Great stuff.. now to buy some resin, been looking at it a while
It's a great tool.
Vince, another great tutorial with lots of tips and tricks to try on upcoming projects. Thanks as always for your time and expertise!

Brilliant, if you're working on more Nurgle stuff soon, I'd love to see how you'd approach working on the large plague fly wings
No immediate plans, but I will put it on the list. :)

On second thought, there's probably no need to sweat transparent resin for an opaque surface of molten gold. Disregard 😅
It could, but as you say, it would get expensive.

What type of cork do you recommend? How thick of a sheet should it be?
1/8th or 1/4 inch - any cork sheets will work. I often get the cork matts for dinner tables from IKEA.

It will interfere with it, but a layer on the bottom and a layer on top and you're good. It will "seem" that color.

Sure, I've seen it before, you just want to effectively make two bases in one when you're doing that and consider miniature placement early.

When building up and painting a base like this do you pin your models down? I’ve always had trouble with them falling off the base.
Sometimes, in this case, I didn't. I use Loctite Ultra Gel and never had an issue, it really cements the model on there.
When adding the flourescent ink, did you thin it down? Yours look way more thinned out than what comes from the bottle. :)
Yep, a little, but it also dries very thin.
