It can be about someone that is with you but at the same time ignores you and is not there when you have problems. You love that person and it seems you can't go away, but you feel abandoned and alone. Very good quote by the way.
This is the most powerful WT song that they have ever made.If not most powerful from metal. The sound of guitars, her melody of voice. After 8-9 years of listening to metal I still absolutely have no idea how can someone compose song like this.
Sharon said the song is about personal relationships but was written in a way where it alludes to more and it's the listener who decides the meaning in the end. Sharon is very non-judgmental and not bigoted. I'm a Christian myself and can hear the song "the way I want" but I can appreciate it just for what it is too. Fantastic group, great lyrics--always.
This is obviously about someone being betrayed. Bearing a cross refers to Jesus bearing a cross, after being betrayed by Judas (even Judas knew he had lied). The betrayed person calls out to the one that betrayed them one more time, but he still doesn't answer her calls for help.
When you loved someone who is being so insensitive, so emotionally unavailable...... This song is heavy! Bitter! But epic! Stay strong.....cross bearers!!
WT is one of the best bands I know and yet I never hear them in the radio, despite being much better suited for that compared to my other favorite bands...
What people must know is that there is more to these songs than it seems. This song isnt about religion nor is Angels about angels and so on. Many of their songs are about feelings and relationships(often bad relationships) and this song is no exception.
Wow...I'm in the middle of writing my very first Star Trek fanfic, the song reminds me of the storyline, or at least the chapter I'm currently writing :P
The great thing about most songs like this is that they have multiple interpretations and are meant to be interpreted differently by different people. I prefer to look at this as a Christian viewpoint, such as the people who call themselves Christians, but are just as dark and gritty as the people they criticize. Yet, no matter how far you get into it, there will always be salvation waiting. WT is obviously not a Christian band though, so this is more of a personal interpretation.
When comes my final wedding I want to go in with this melody.. I'm birth in the day of Cross in Orthodox calendar ...and in fact my life it's a cross and I embraced... its loneliness way...
...Ouch. This hits a little too close to home! But what better way to satisfy sorrow than with a song that verbalizes your situation? Thank you for uploading and posting lyrics!
I think the song is about a teenage mother meeting up with her child's father after a few years, and reminiscing on her unrequited love for him. He had left her and her child, saying that the child (the cross she bears) isn't his. He went on, and left to keep on living his life, as if she and his kid didn't exist. She wonders why she still loves him. When he returns to her, repentant and wanting their child, she looks at him and asks him why. She turns away and leaves. BTW, I like the picture.
UA-cam has software on its servers that look for all sorts of signatures and details and they notify copyright holder's when their material is posted. What they do that's great beyond this is they offer deals to the artist as incentives giving them compensation in some cases and letting them have the final say on the content. So a lot of artists allow posting becasue of this...and some don't.
I think the song is about a girl being pregnant by accident (reference to the cross) and the guy denies being the father of the child. After some years went by, the child is now a grown up person but the mother finds it difficult to supply for the needs of the child and wants the father to come back and help her even if he wasn't there in the beginning (oh, call my name and help me with this weight...). But I think he never came back to her.
oh, I think that's not the point. In my opinion theres no definiton about a *real fan*.I think, fan's which think about the songs they hear, are great fans (too). Sometimes you have to know, what a song is about, sometimes it's very important. You can't listen to a song full of sadness or grieve without knowledge about the content. Okay, it's my opinion, I don't expect, that this is your's as well...but now I keep quiet and listen to this amazing song :) Below: A great vid :) Well done!
This song isnt about religion, they are just stating examples when naming Judas, the cross and so on. For example she states that she is carrying a cross, it means that she is carrying a great burden and he refuses to help and just lives in his lie.
Wow reading through these comments is kinda hilarious. Mention a cross and mention judas and all of a sudden the rest of the lyrics mean nothing and the song is about christianity? Pffbt! I believe they are really just metaphors and the song (how I choose to interpret it) is more about one persons indifference to the love another has for them. Great font and use of colours btw and thoroughly enjoyed listening to one of my all time favourite songs!
the songs pretty :3 i thank the good creator of the madoka amv a demon's fate for introducing me to this band, my favorite songs are mother earth and forgiven. and this one is really epic. like EPIC.
to me this definitely about toxic relationships with husbands who pretend to be good christian family men, but you're suffering because of them and their conceit. You bare the cross of being married to a man who cheats, lies, manipulates, and gaslights; but never makes changes for the better. And even when you part from them, they still come back to haunt you. If you're christian, you have to stick to your spiritual convictions on a personal level, even though the man you were married to left you in a mess of a life. If you're not Christian, the point still stands; you have to find yourself and separate yourself from a terrible spouse; be it in your own esoteric consciousness or from a different spiritual mindset than christianity.
its hard to listen to these old songs and with their new stuff their doing these days. I don't care much for the religious perspective some people have about the band but such a difference it's amazing still :D
@SuperColossal33 Ah, thanx. ^^ I'd noticed the copyright stuff seemed to have changed for youtube, but didn't quite understand it. Is that how it is now?
@Marwolaeth01 Its cause most people don't understand metaphors. They just wanna see the words and go ok, thats what it is. Great song, though. Great job on the cross.
@PurpleGumdropsYum in most countries copyright doesnt prevent you from sharing a video for non-profit. 99% of videos that get flagged can be protested and youtube will leave the audio in, but you have to protest it.
Herbs are the original medicines. Wicca are not the only persons to utilize herbs for healing. The gold, not cinnamon, that they were given was most likely for them to live on and to escape to Egypt for a time so that Jesus would not be killed as a baby. Myrrh, in this case, was for anointing the body after death. Frankincense, probably for healing. These things are not unique to Wicca - they are used in a variety of cultures throughout history. Please do not try to discredit others' beliefs.
"the cross" has nothing to do with Christianity... "cross" and "Judas" are metaphors! I mean - seriously... people... I think the lyrics are all about lovers and shit, like many of within temptation's songs
@LeeZenith That's what I thought when I first heard this song...but my brother assured me (as I felt a little offended at the thought) that the part that mentions Judas was a comparison of deep betrayal. (And now this is one of my favorite songs by them. xD Funny how those things work out, eh?)
Is this about God not listening to anyone's prayers so they're losing their faith in God? Cause if it is, I can relate so much to screaming to a God who doesn't seem to care for anyone.
No this song is not about God not hearing people prayers it's a song about a bad relationship and God loves u the only reason he dosent hear u is because u don't let him in ur life and in order to receive him u must do the prayer of salvation and believe me it works but it's ur decision u decide and remember time in heaven is diffrent from time in earth
@suicidegothify The biblical references in this song are just comparisons...and since the Bible is pretty well-known, a lot of people would understand the references. But I see your point with that; not everyone is religious. :)
lonewhitewolf1 Actually, gold, frankincense, and myrrh, given to the child Jesus, were symbolic of his roles as priest, prophet and king. Their herbal uses signified events to come in his life. For example, frankincense was used in the burial of the dead, foretelling his death. In addition, religions like Wicca are far too pantheistic to align with the teachings of Jesus.
Hi, I am not wishing to start an argument, but if I may say something. :) Belief in Universal energies, if I am understanding the term "Pantheistic" correctly, does not necessarily mean an individual belonging to a religion believing in this, such as Wicca, can't align with the teachings of Christ. Among His teachings, Christ taught love, kindness, compassion, and service to your fellow beings. Right? Those belonging to Wicca, as well as other non-Christian religions, can easily possess such qualities and morals. These good traits are not unique Christian religions, and not every Christian can claim to follow Christ's teachings in this way.
@Marwolaeth01 i mean, look at the damn CHORUS. "Why have you waited to emrace me etc.". It's quite obviously a love song, unless they're claiming sharon wants to f**** god...
@PurpleGumdropsYum In a way actually suicidegothify WAS telling people what kind of music to listen to. After all if suicidegothify had their way and religion was not "brought into music" then everyone would have to listen to secular music because there would be no religious music to listen to. Not only that but nobody would be able to play religious music if suicidegothify had their way. And again it's equally bad if you switch it from no religious music to no secular music.
@Arkatox I never said Christianity offended me. I'm a Christian too. What offended me was that I thought they were writing a song from the viewpoint of Christ when I first heard it...which seemed disrespectful. But, since that's not what the song is, it's not offensive.
I somehow got a dislike feeling when I even see/hear ANYTHING that has to do with ANY religion :P but when I am not listening to lyrics, but to the singing and the instruments I feel that this song is damn great :) pushing button left of the other one
@PurpleGumdropsYum Sorry if it sounds like I'm being too vicious or attacking in my comment. I just vehemently disagree with suicidegothify's opinion. I think it is rather selfish to want music to only cater to a certain belief (or lack thereof) system. I for one love the fact that there is both religious (of all kinds) and secular music because it provides so many different views. Now I certainly don't agree with all those views but that's the point. It gives us a different perspective.
My God. Just because something mentions Jesus, does not mean that it's Christian. IF you don't want to listen to the damn song, no one's forcing you to! It's your damn mouse!
@Kinpatsulozz44 believes in it or has to be mocking it. It's not like any of them believe or mock the religion of the ancient greeks when they mention greek mythology... Judas is, according to the bible, a disciple of Jesus (you know, that guy on the cross. Basically, an avatar of the Christian god) who ultimately betrayed him, leading to his demise. In popular culture/tradition, he's often used as the archetypical traitor.
It can be about someone that is with you but at the same time ignores you and is not there when you have problems. You love that person and it seems you can't go away, but you feel abandoned and alone.
Very good quote by the way.
to my mind one of the BEST songs of WT and of all times overall, seriously!
This is the most powerful WT song that they have ever made.If not most powerful from metal. The sound of guitars, her melody of voice. After 8-9 years of listening to metal I still absolutely have no idea how can someone compose song like this.
Christian or not Christian oriented, this is a great song! It has a great message to those who'll listen.
I love this song.
DarkEleni I'm agree with you
Sharon said the song is about personal relationships but was written in a way where it alludes to more and it's the listener who decides the meaning in the end.
Sharon is very non-judgmental and not bigoted. I'm a Christian myself and can hear the song "the way I want" but I can appreciate it just for what it is too. Fantastic group, great lyrics--always.
"Even Judas knew he had lied" ... DAAAAMMNN...
this song is so so deep.
This is obviously about someone being betrayed. Bearing a cross refers to Jesus bearing a cross, after being betrayed by Judas (even Judas knew he had lied). The betrayed person calls out to the one that betrayed them one more time, but he still doesn't answer her calls for help.
My favorite Within Temptation song. Still here in 2020.
Feb 2022
2023
i love this song her voice is amazing
This is probably the best song my ears will ever hear.
ONE OF THEIR BEST.
'Whhhyyy have you waaaited to embraaaace me, my deaar.' Has to be the best part. :3
Very nice soprano voice.
When you loved someone who is being so insensitive, so emotionally unavailable...... This song is heavy! Bitter! But epic! Stay strong.....cross bearers!!
I heard this song a couple years ago and though I listen to Within Temptation frequently, I haven't heard this in a while~ I missed it; it's so great~
WT is one of the best bands I know and yet I never hear them in the radio, despite being much better suited for that compared to my other favorite bands...

what a voice and the beginning is awsome!!!!!!
Excellent job putting this video together!
When comes my final wedding I want to go in with this melody.. I'm birth in the day of Cross in Orthodox calendar ...and in fact my life it's a cross and I embraced... its loneliness way...

This song gave me so many chills and i started to tear up a bit... i loves it!
I don't understand why there's a dislike button, this song is awesome
i love this song...it's realy my favorite of this groupe...
The chorus is bloody amazing as if those verses were not good enough.
I think the song is about a teenage mother meeting up with her child's father after a few years, and reminiscing on her unrequited love for him. He had left her and her child, saying that the child (the cross she bears) isn't his. He went on, and left to keep on living his life, as if she and his kid didn't exist. I love the instrumental part at 00:01-00:09 I wonder what musical instruments they used for that beginning intro?

I love so much the lyrics of their songs and her voice.. But why so sad songs???
nice song thank you
WOW...,AMAZING. AMEN.
This song isnt about religion, they are just stating examples when naming Judas, the cross and so on.
For example she states that she is carrying a cross, it means that she is carrying a great burden and he refuses to help and just lives in his lie.
Haha the cross really does look like a kite!
Song is epic and the lyrics... aw the lyrics... ;_;

Kiedy mam doła uwielbiam ją słuchać

I've seen this song live, and it's not a flute in the beginning; it's Sharon :P
the Cross looked like a kite!
Yuki Tenshi I know right

Still rocking this song in 2021

I'm crazy. That song.. Make me crazy.
But thanks.
this is two songs intertwined. one a love song. the other the lack thereof.

Blindly listening to this I thought Kimberly Freeman joined a new band. Holy cow.

@iregretasking well its youtube we are talking about, its full of fanatics from all sides .
I keep wondering why
I'm still calling your name through my tears
this is what i wondered about R ....:)💔

@FinalBossPwner ther are many people who are denying the truth. i wish you and your children best of luck and a happy future..

Why fuss about all that religious crap in the comments, its an amazing song by a kick ass band, no need to speculate just enjoy the music

@ShadowDragon105 thats a movie :D
@KendrixTermina She has every right to if she wants to. I mean after all, she is a goddess herself :oP
I used to call him "my dear" for this song...
@Marwolaeth01 You are my new favorite person, just so you know. :D And I'm glad you liked the use of colors and font. ^^
I somehow got a dislike feeling when I even see/hear ANYTHING that has to do with ANY religion :P

nope, they respect all religions but they aren't satanic and stop being judgmental
