Top Audi / Mercedes / Ruf was Anders, in 10th. He's STUPID FAST in a GT car in iRacing. His fast lap was a full second off the BMW / McLaren horde...
In front of him were nothing but BMWs and McLarens. Coincidence?

Oh well - but they do need to get the fix they have stated out the door as GT3 BoP is pretty dang important for iRacing as a whole and it needs to be better.
And yes, the season my car of choice (the 12C) at least temporarily becomes OP I abandon it. I am a glutton for punishment.
In all seriousness though, I was planning on leaving the 12C anyways as even though it's my preferred car, I've been on again / off again / on again with it for 4 years now.

man looking at iracing's sebring and remembering the layout and atmosphere of sebring a few weeks ago really makes you appreciate the time iracing took to model sebring. It's god damn accurate

I'm even thinking about maybe giving iRacing a try myself. They should be paying you for promoting them :)
I signed up for iRacing because of EB, too. It's a blast, thought a lot of work. I don't participate as much anymore, but I love just taking the Lotus 49 around the 'Ring occasionally. The 49, 79, and SRF are my favorites because of the low grip tires.
It's April the 8-10 when the first GT sprint is starting, so keep them coming until then Mr Box!

I'm gonna have to renew my membership. I let it lapse shortly after the dynamic track update came out and left it. Now that they've added the newer formula cars, the ring and the audi/merc -- there's a lot of stuff I'm gonna have to fork out money for. DX11 as well.
Obviously by your description the bmw and mclaren are faster over a lap atm, but how would you say they compare handling wise? Corner entry/exit etc. Also adding to your comments about GT3 death trap and not having to wreck, which I completely agree with, it was these guys at nurburgring last season which kickstarted my SR increase to finally get to A license for this season, which I'm quite happy about.
The Audi may be slow in a straight line but I would not drive it for anything else

+reinisze123 I honestly learn a lot about racecraft by just watching videos like this one. After you have watched hours and hours of this stuff you start to get a feel for how you should react in various situations. Matt Malone is another great UA-camr/Twitcher who is an excellent driver and I enjoy watching. And you should read all of the sporting code on the iRacing website. Some very important stuff in there. And then there are some videos that are linked up on the iRacing site that describe a lot of the fundamentals. There is also a list in the forums that someone put together of "required reading resources" or something like that. It's a very very good list that I'm working my way through. I'll find it.

Nope. If you're alright, it's as competitive as any other GT3 car.
At the time he commented, the Ford GT wasnt in the GT3 series. They replaced the Ruf with it this time round, thankfully. I own the Ruf but the interior is crap, the exterior is crap, and I prefer the Z4 to drive anyways :b
Ruf is kinda deprecated now, it's only in IMSA and the two Ruf series.

I just can't get a feel for the brakes on that Audi. You've gotta be so gentle with them, yet you need to trail brake to get the thing to turn. It's completely at odds with how the rest of the car drives.

Haha I loved it. What you call in iRacing, GT3 is a death trap must be the cleanest race of all time in Assetto Corsa GT2/3 races. I should come back to iRacing at some point.
+KaziQ that's why I'm coming back to iRacing, servers are always empty on AC and when you do find a fairly populated one, it's either full of idiots or it's a drift server. I don't mind drifting, but it gets stale after a while.
Yeah, I started racing AI and it's not bad. The problem with iRacing is its physics and FFB. That's why a lot of people from iRacing play AC a lot.
From what I've heard the physics have improved a bit on iRacing. But the thing that's making me lean towards iRacing is the possibility of racing online whenever I want, basically. AC is a good sim but there are only around 30 people online at any given time, which makes it almost impossible to race online, unless you're in a league.
No doubt the matchmaking system is the best thing since sliced bread in sim community. Absolutely no doubt about it.
+Marcello Nascimento (MarcelloJordz) so finally some confirmation :D i got ac about 7 weeks ago and drove 3-4 online races so far because i never see well populated servers. was already wondering if sth is wrong with my game/pc/internet/whatever :D until a few months ago i was only playing gt6 and you would always find many full servers there
its so bad in the endurance series. divebombs every tight corner every lap of every race. you should run 1 race with me and a team mate of mine, j/k but we do need a fast road racer hint hint.

As an outside with a crummy computer, I'd say... make the cars conform exactly to their real-life equivalents. Racing doesn't have gameplay balance, despite the best efforts of the sanctioning bodies. (Besides, how's it supposed to be a practice tool for real race drivers if the in-game equivalents of their cars perform differently from their real-life cars?)
+ChainsawChuck13 BoP is constantly adjusted in real life as well. Might as well make it fair ingame as long as each car keeps its character.

The thing is, though, engineers will immediately start looking for other ways to get their advantage back. That's what I mean by "racing has no gameplay balance": unless the race is an out-and-out spec series, everyone will be constantly angling for, and quite often finding, not-technically-banned advantages. So even if there are BOP changes, perhaps they should mirror the up- and downgrades that happen to the cars in real life?
+ChainsawChuck13 GT3 in the real world certainly has balance, if it didn't the class wouldn't be as popular as it is.
First off, none of the teams can change the car outside of the setup, which has a fair few restrictions on it as well. For example - fixed gear ratios and differential, being restricted to certain sets of springs at all 4 corners. Any new parts have to be homologated at the end of the year and can only be done so by the manufacturer of the car. Not a lot of time to be found with setup wizardry nor working with the car parts wise - GT3 is after all largely intended as a gentleman driver friendly class.
Secondly, because of the BoP process being reasonably accurate in the real world and the fact GT3 has essentially no rulebook, almost anything can be GT3'd. That's how you get a Bentley Continental and a Ferrari 488 in the same class racing one another wheel to wheel. Not every car will do as well on every circuit, but when half the class is a second a lap or so off the pace on a track that suits almost every type of car equally it's a good indication something isn't correct.
All of the GT3 cars are built by the manufacturer knowing they will be BoP'd. The Mercedes before the balancing process may put out 650 HP relatively safely from the factory without a restrictor, but will race closer to 550. Or if they figured they'd run with X size restrictor and developed the engine with that, but due to poor aero actually run a x+2mm restrictor to give them more power.
BoP doesn't fundamentally change the car, it simply creates a more reasonably level playing field. For iRacing, the BoP update will add 5 kg to the Z4, 10 kg to the 12C, while removing drag from the Audi and Mercedes. That isn't a huge change, but a minor tweak. That's common in the real world, as is changing the size of the restrictor to give certain cars slightly more or less power.
Go look up the Lambo's "cheat" restrictor that was deemed illegal post race in the Rolex 24 earlier this year, and the BoP change for them at Sebring.
It's always changing, so the training tool side of things holds no water as it will even vary from series to series even if the same exact car is being entered!
Ah. That explains some things. (Previously, I'd had a rather stupid idea of expanding the available classes by adding older, no-longer-run cars that had technically been built to the same class/rules). Still two questions though:
1. In that case, why not just let real life write the changes?
2. If GT3 is still for "gentleman drivers" and GT1 is unofficially dead, where do the pros go?
Are you running DX11? The AA doesnt seem to work as well as on DX9....
+Arthur Karut Yes. Only difference I've actually noticed in gameplay for me is lines on the road (the sector timing lines for the most part) don't antialias nicely, but other than that I find it's worth it for me.
+Empty Box I found out that forcing NVIDIA's transparency AA (2x minimum) into the game, fixes the lines and makes the game look even better. But its a bit heavy on FPS =)

+El Brudero I'd try Game Stock Car Extreme, or alternatively a game called Automobilista, made by the same developers of the aforementioned title. You can't really go wrong with their games, give 'em a try.

I don't play iRacing, but is there no option to turn the voice chat off during a race? Seems quite annoying and a bit distracting to hear those flame wars all over the race.

Are there "noobs" that race online in this game? I just built myself a PC and racing set up. I've been playing a lot of RaceRoom Experience and Asseta Corsa to familiarize myself with the tracks, but have been hesitant to subscribe to this game as I wasn't sure if people are assholes if you are a bit new?
+JoeyandLindsay People are always assholes, welcome to sim racing! But plenty of noobs - iRacing is unique in that there are license levels so everyone starts as a rookie regardless of talent or experience. If enough people register for one race they'll also have two races at one time, with the drivers divided by their iRating (basically a "skill rating")
If you have a head on your shoulders and are capable of using the squishy thing inside and want to race people clean and fair, you won't have an issue.

damn, every time I play iRacing I feel like I got back in time to like 2002. How can paying/subscribing customers be paying for "stone age" tech. I mean we are racing on pc so how come a shitty game like DriveClub looks so incredible. No way driveclub earns as much money as iRacing does.
+Pillokun I highly doubt iRacing has pulled as much as DriveClub did, not to mention that studio got shut down in the process. Just because it's more expensive doesn't mean there is more revenue or even more importantly, profit.
Priorities are different, the physics in DriveClub are comparatively stone age. Different games, different priorities.
different games, sure. but it wants to be a sim. what sim wants to simulate driving if the graphic of the sim is on space invaders level, It wants to simulate that you are racing in a real race car. People that play iRacing and the like, often have expensive sim rigs with 3 monitors and at least a 400 buck ffb wheel, even the graphics should be top notch. it is after all 2016.

There is a difference between a sim and a realistic game. A very, very large difference. And if this is "space invaders" level graphics, you never played space invaders.

But bad/simple graphics is not an excuse anymore, not if it should simulate a racing experience. I dont see 2d sprite trees or flat/still flags when I race on a real track. And every time I see stuff like that in a sim I know for a fact that developers/publishers of a sim treat their gamers as second class citizens in that aspect. Look how good looking games are now, there is nothing that says that a sim have to look simple and flat like a game from 2002.
