I would like to recommend a few things . First off is a shirt a with a front pocket ( or even two ) , this is invaluable when working in a situation like this where you need to temporarily place items such as that string level and or some glasses . Another is a pair of fingerless leather gloves or even tactical gloves . These will help minor skin abrasions and the palms of your hands won’t get raw or irritated especially while cranking. I also like to do the proverbial “ new year , new me “ workout process after the holidays and build up my cardio for the upcoming summer . Nothing crazy , just 3 or 4 times a week to keep from getting winded too easily.
I was a bit disappointed at the end of this video because to me , you left out the “ big moment “ . . .

This is just a general observation I'm seeing when looking at videos like this. Why don't yall get a drop down tow hitch to keep it level while towing it??
I do have one! Had it on the wrong vehicle this day but was just camping a couple miles from home on backroads so didn't worry about it. But normally use a 3" drop with that truck (especially on highways!) -Simon

Hi I know I'm a little late to the party but I am about ready to buy a pop up it's what I've always wanted besides the one that goes on the back of a truck LOL but I just wanted to say I hope that if I were to ask a question that the time has not went by too far to be able to ask you questions? You're one of the first ones I found on UA-cam and that I've always came back to, you I've only found a couple people but you're the one I've come back to and I can relate with, so I'm really hoping I'm not too late and that if I need guidance that I may ask a question or two I hope you and your family are doing well and happy trails

I would recommend a drop hitch for that tiny thing, it makes a surprising difference in control and safety
I actually have one, but didn't have it on that day, this place is just a few min from the house. But I agree - huge difference in control.

Great video. Have you always owned and used pop-up campers? My wife and I have always camped in tents and are just now looking into campers.
I grew up in pop-ups, then went full tent for about 15 years. Got back into them with small kids, it's been the perfect compromise for us!

They came with the camper, but I have seen some aftermarket. They are not easy to find. I do put them on opposite corners.

Get you a lower drop hitch so that camper is not on such a angle when hauling it
I normally have a 3" drop hitch on that vehicle! That's what I get for rushing

We recently got a 96 palomino stallion and appreciate this video. Random question but our bunks are dragging and not pulling out nicely. I saw on other videos (for non palomino campers) that the slides have wheels at the end. Ours doesn’t have that but we have a random wheel attached to the side wall In the middle of the bed. Should we have a wheel on the slides too? Maybe it’s missing? I thought I’d ask because palomino info is hard to come by and you have one too! Thanks!!
My Palomino does have wheels at the end - but in my experience with other pop-up campers, difficult to pull out means that the rails aren't square with the bed frame. Meaning that either they've bent a little, or the walls have moved a little, or they're sagging. Hope that helps! -Simon
One thing I used to like to do is unlatch the top half of the door and leave the top half open and close the bottom half. I did that for if I had a dog with me.

We bought a pop up camper exactly like yours, the first time we used it I made a big mistake, after I plug in the electricity cable I push both button on/off for electric and battery, as a result they both are not working, I’m not sure if it’s a fuse, if you could help really appreciate it. Thank you
Check fuses first for sure, that's the cheapest easiest fix. Usually what we do is make sure breaker is off at the box before plugging in, plug in and then flip the breaker on. That's it - everything else should be working.
Did you turn it off at your power converter? (often under the dinette)... do you hear a squealing sound or alarm of any kind?

It is a Palomino Pony, 8’ box
I read that you have been camping with a pop up for 30 years. I have a story that I hope you can help us with. We bought a new to us pop up a few years ago. We bought a grey water bucket now. But when we use the sink, where as most of the water goes into that bucket...a lot of water goes elsewhere. Where does it go? We don't know. But we do know it comes pouring out the side wheel well area if we stand in the middle of the camper. We use very little water. One day it was like a well was gushing out and we weren't even using water at that campground! How old is this water?? Can you give any insight?? I hope so.
You will definitely want to track where this water is going! Water is the enemy of the materials your camper is built from. Usually there will be a graywater connection next to your water and electrical hookups (passenger side, forward of wheel well)
Where do you get the safety supports for the lift system??
These came with the camper, they are hard to find online!

do you have an anti-sway bar on your truck for pop up trailer?
I don't! It's so light - I have a half ton truck with around 7000 pound towing capacity, and this camper has an unladen curb weight of about 1600 pounds. The only time we run into any issue at all is with really strong cross winds, but it's not too bad. I absolutely recommend stabilizers, anti-sway etc for any larger bumper pull camper though.

@@LakeHubTV thank you Simon! Now i have to figure out which one to buy. Hubby works long hours and i have to look after these things. We are looking to buy a pop up less than 2,100 lbs to tow with 2015 highlander xle awd - 5000lbs and 500 tw. So many options. 😁 Just have to choose correct one 🤦♀️

How do you grease the pulley system.
The best way is to do it with 2 people, one person cranks and the other just lets the cable run through their hand with a handful of grease. Basic old school grease from the auto part store works, and a latex glove helps!

theyre not for everyone! van is definitely simplest. pop ups only have a few more steps than a standard bumper pull camper
