So here I am, wasting time looking at youtube videos....and then I discovered a way to lower a shoebox that I was not familiar with! It looks like looking at videos paid off tonight! Thanks for the lowering tips!
I'm an old Hotrodder from way back in the day, I have been enjoying watching the 37 Delivery build and your Coupe. I had a 37 Sedan Delivery I tricked out when I was 16, back in 1962, found it in an junk yard for $65! What I wanted to say I and my buddy did the same reversed spindles on my 49 Merc I had in 64....it amazed everyone how smooth it rode being so low. Been a subscriber for a while now and watching you doing your thing brings back some good memories for me, keep it going!...But! I see you don't have to use Acetylene torch and metal coat hangers to weld anymore like I did! lol
Thanks for this I've never seen this done. I guess they changed the front in 54 I was thinking about getting a 54. But it's not that big of a deal I've got to much other non hot rod stuff to do but maybe one day.
Have you done the alignment on it yet and did you need to do anything to the steering arms? I'm thinking of buying fatman dropped arms when I do mine, if need be
Hey Travis. I just found your page a few days ago and it’s about the only thing I watch right now. I was wondering, are you happy with your Alpha TIG? I’m thinking of getting one myself.
This was a year ago....was there anything else you had to do later on thats not in the video? Lowered steering arms etc? ...the reason I ask is.....I'm about to add disc a brake kit from speedway and 3 inch lowering blocks on the rear. I am trying to anticipate other mods needed to get it on the road!
To get the clearance between the steering arm and upright, wouldn't it be better to remove a little off both arm AND upright? That's' quite a lot off the arm. Less weakening of the arm? The upright appears to have a bit of bead right there, no loss of strength taking a bit off right there. Thoughts?
When flipping the spindles (which I successfully did), the upper and lower joint pin bushings have to be flipped also. This is not an easy task. What method did you use to successfully use the bushings (in the reverse order)?
With flipped or dropped uprights and lowering springs the front end will probably be too low. Mush lower than you can get the rear of the car without notching the frame, raising the driveshaft tunnel and doing some floor work above the rear axle center section.
Rob Buchanan yeah that’s probably the new plan. I can’t leave well enough alone. I always have to go too low haha! I’ll figure it out though, shouldn’t be too much. I’ve bagged one of these cars and laid it out so I know I won’t have to do that much work. Thanks for watching! I appreciate the comments!
I think you will have to heat and lower the steering arms with this modification and even lower with the short springs. I don't think Shoebox will sell just the dropped arms.
Paul Bellanger I was thinking the same thing. Let’s cross that bridge when we get there. It’s always a domino effect when modifying cars. Why can’t you just modify something and not have to touch something else? Haha

No problem! Thanks for finding me!
Thanks for sharing the drop "how-to". Look forward to more in the series.

That’s awesome! I wish I was born in that era. I’d fit right in!
Shoebox Central is awesome, great video, I've also seen people change the mounting point of the lower a arm to help with adjustment.
Ooh good thinking! If I need more I’ll have that option. Thanks Brent!

Super specific on detail. Beautiful! 👌
Thanks man! Once I get the model a done I’ll hop back on the shoebox! If my garage was bigger I’d be working them both
Keep up the good work brother.
I just checked with shoe box central and they no longer carry the camber kit! I will look around to see if I can locate a vender!

i have had no issues at all with my alpha tig. id get one again.
What was the verdict with the steering arms? Did you have to stretch and lower them?
I'm planning on doing this modification over the holidays.
cool idea , i like the no heat n bend .

Nice. Thanks for the info.

Wow I’d know that! I’ve been watching Matt @ ITG never seen that…. probably because he’s not done any “late” model Fords. He stays in the A-40’s era?

Up load some more shoe box vids
i really do..
Good video 👍
What is the fix for the increased steering effort problem after doing this??
So you dont have to ream the uprights and spindles for the new kingpin kit?
If your bushings in the uprights aren’t worn then no. I didn’t replace my bushings because they were in good condition

Ah I gotcha. That makes sense.
Those long steering arms bolts also act as steering stops, to limit steering travel. You no longer have that and could damage the steering box.
I’ll figure something out when I get closer thanks

Cool.
I just add one inch spacers to the spring plate and change out the front springs and that’ll give you a 6in drop on the front end
What Aerostar coils did you go with? And where did you order them from?
Just the stock front springs from like a 96 or something. I’m pretty sure they are all the same
Moog CC850

Not to worry...you can use '48 to whatever truck dropped tie rods on the shoeboxes
Will this work on a 55 mercury sedan
Won't the castor be wrong?
Don’t believe so. I’ll find out when I get an alignment
