Hey Guys, Sorry for mis-speaking on this reaction calling Floor Tarja (duh). Hopefully the information covered in this video was beneficial to my singing friends out there :-) And yes, there is a big money note at the end you can find here at 9:23 ua-cam.com/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/v-deo.html Great monster money note!
Still great and beneficial video for sure. You don't even know yet though lol. And actually even more impressive is that this started 70 minutes into a very active and belted show. You should either see dreflight live by her original band After Forever. It's on my channel after all videos disappeared. Amazing belting and great opera section. Trial of monsters at graspop with her band ReVamp. Really great with action, grit, belting, and again opera parts. Or romanticide from this same concert which started at 55 minutes which really shows the kind of vocal and physical stamina she had. Amazing belts and classical notes. Plus the bass player sings in that one and he has an amazing powerful great rock voice too
Floor isn't as Operatic as Tarja, but I love them both and yes on the Tone and Pitch that is what always sticks out to me Example Early Queensryche "Take Hole Of The Flame" Etc....So Good
I cannot beleive you analyzed her without watching the video all the way through -- you missed the entire reason she was singing in those ranges. It was building up to a grand finale. #Floorgasm

I see, I will post the same comment lol, yeah that concert it's awesome, but the best version of that song it's live Buenos Aires, you can check that video, it worths

At the time this performance was recorded in Wacken Floor Jansen was still officially a temporary replacement for Annette (who was the female singer who followed Tarja). The band and the fans were so happy with Floor because she could very well sing the songs that were composed for both former singers.
Thank you for explaining her singing. I've actually met her 2 years ago during a singing masterclass in Rome (she used to teach something during the revamp era, the Rome one was sort of a favour to fans). She gave us some tips and insights. She is a force of the nature however. Awesome reaction, Ken!! This is my fav song AND my fav band, I got sooo happy to see it here \o/ and I like that your comments are full of experience and knowlegde, thank you for sharing! (Hope to be your student asap 😄)
what a nice surprise I found today on UA-cam! Ken, thank you very much for detailed analysis. Very happy that you chose exactly this song. This is my favorite . So much unexpected moments, specialy with chest register, always thought that there a lot of head voice, but now I know what is my next challenge . Looking forward for next videos :)
I usually hate UA-cam's "reaction" videos cause they all seem fake. But yours I love because you give an honest real reaction to their singing. Awesome videos, love your channel. Peace, brother!
Thanks for doing this, Ken. Nightwish are awesome. Floor is great singer as is Marco the bassist. Hope you enjoy many more of their songs, which are of a wide variety. 🤟
Hi Ken, I love the way you walked us through this song. I was so interested in the way you explained what's going on, I'm nodding the whole time.....like yes yes yes. lol. My eyes are glued to your words, and ears thoroughly listening! Very interesting on the opera information. You are in my opinion, no doubt, the best vocal coach ever! Keep up the great work!
For people wondering why seeing this is SO crazy for some people, when Floor first started singing for Nightwish, she had this "stigma" of being a "belt-only" singer that didn't bring the operatic or pop aspects Tarja and Anette did. Clearly she's a versatile singer and can bring some of those qualities, but for people who don't know Nightwish and their history specifically, this performance surprised a lot of people. I don't know why it's making rounds 5.5 years later, but it's nice to see people appreciating Floor more than when she first joined the band.
as many here has pointed out this is not Tarja, this is Floor Jansen. Tarja was a opera singer. Floor started studying music at the Dutch Rock Academy in 1999, entering the Conservatorium Tilburg three years later. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. Ican realy apresiate the history lesson so tu for that one :)
The history lesson was definitely worth it. I studied opera for a couple of years and although I am a jazz and blues singer now, I definitely think that this knowledge is important. I love how she mixes the voices up! Thanks, again for a great video, Ken.
I’ve seen Nightwish live 5 times since I’m from Finland, and Ghost Love Score wows me everytime! You should also check out another Finnish band’s song: Sonata Arctica - White pearl, black oceans live. The vocalist is Tony Kakko: one of the best power metal male vocalist with 4 octave range. He is in fact best friends with Nightwish members and sung in few Nightwish songs and also sung a song with Floor in Nightwish’s latest live dvd.
I am glad you liked the band, and don't worry, you are not the first vocal coach I have seen on UA-cam get the singers mixed up. I am interested in seeing how you would react to Unleash The Archers.
Watched Floor Jansen (in this vid it's Floor Jansen singing, not Tarja... at this time Tarja isn't a bandmember anymore for like 8 years) with her band After Forever back in 2003 and I just loved her approach to singing from the very first minute. I think I saw After Forever on 10 different occasions and was blown away every time. Back then she was 22. What a talent!
What I seriously find most impressive about your reaction, in addition to the very clear expertise you have concerning the matter, is that you actually hit and find the same notes she hits, just like "oh yeah I like how she goes 'ooo-ooo-ooh' and that's this specific style and this is why she does it"
Wonderful analysis! Everything you said made perfect sense and I was able to hear the transitions in her voice. I've learned more about singing in this single video than my entire life. Thank you for that!! PS I'm a little sad you missed the Floorgasm :/ PPS you redeemed yourself Haha. Great videos, I look forward to the other ones, already learning so much!
This is Floor Jansen but Tarja the 1st singer also did this song. She was more operatic and trained for it and also sounds great . I would love to get your review and reaction to her version. They are both LIVE versions and this band haas to be heard LIVE to be appreciated (no auto tune or studio enhancements). Floor is a real power house with a real stage presence on top of her diverse vocal range. She has drawn many old fans and hordes of new ones to Nightwish. She can sing anything and sounds great doing especially LIVE where she seems to thrive.
Might wanna correct the Vocalist at 0:12 this is Floor Jensen. Tarja left the band way back 2006 or 2007. Also you skipped the best bit at the end, usually good to watch the performance till the end.
Lol Ken, I almost clicked off when you said you were reacting to Tarja singing. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I love Floor, here voice is smooth to me. I’m glad you went back and got the epic ending. Great information!
Whoa! I didn't think you would actually do this one. I love it how you're halfway your video and not even halfway the song lolz. I thought this was a very thorough video explaining how opera works and was very informative. I don't recall Floor sing any bluesy song but she did a cover of "Heart - Alone" once live with Marco and Troy and Puccini Aria live on a TV show. Overall, great video!
Everyone always calls her a soprano but I saw an interview where she says she see's that but it isnt the case...and she hasnt done opera she knows she has the voice for it and has done it but shes not trained in it or likes it. She likes what she does.
One thing... This isn't Tarja Turunen (1st singer for Nightwish), this is Floor Jansen (3rd singer). Most people react to this version, and they tend not to mention about the song being operatic, as while Floor can sing operatic, it is by no means all she can do. She is a more mixed singer. Reason I mention this is because it kind of ruins the premise of your review :/ Your going into it to review Tarja's operatic style, but that's not what you are seeing lol. Oh ouch, you cut the song off before the note that everyone is going to be flocking here to see. Not cool man. At least finish the song, you just missed out on a hell of a belted note at the end.
Since you missed the floorgasm, I think you own us a Tarja song. Try Tarja-Supremacy(hellfest). She held a C#6 note there and sings low note with heavy chest tone
Ok I never leave comments but here is mine: I love Nightwish's songs and I watched a lot of reactions even of others "Vocal Couch" ; My personal consideration is: "Damn, finally I am watching a real professionist doing a real reaction on the voice quality of this Singer". I would love to learn by someone as you, Good Job man!
I'm sorry mate. I love your reaction! It was honest and very professional, but the fact you missed the "floorgasm" still hurts me a lot. I'm sure you have heard it by now, but I wish so much I would have heart it. You seems like a really nice guy so I subscribed.
Could you react to their cover of Phantom of the Opera? Really showcases the elements you're discussing, as it's a Musical Theatre song (not to mention it's an amazing cover too!) And actually sung by Tarja too 😂
@@kentamplin Yes i agree that :) and that will be really Tarja's singing. And also you can hear the bassist Marco Hietala singing Also. And especially this version live. ua-cam.com/video/loaKHHdPo-Q/v-deo.html
Oh man, I think you missed a golden opportunity here to actually explore the full piece as a whole (instrumental as well as the vocal). So, so much can be pulled out of this performance for educational and analytical means. I get that this piece is quite long, but it also belongs in that category where it is worth hearing because the entire score is rich in quality musicality, texture and style from start to finish.
New subscriber and aspiring singer Ken. This was the most educated, descriptive and enlightening reaction I've come across to date. Definitely going to check out your singing lessons. A great Tarja song to react to would be "phantom of the opera" but the live version, or even Tarja's version of this song. Please keep the great content coming.
Hey ken. One lesser known fact about Floor is that she is also a vocal coach. As for her other work, she was lead vocalist for a band called Revamp. You may like to check out her covers for Alone and Bad Romance, they are very good and showcase her other vocal styles.
I think we can safely say that Floor can prove her own teachings work by virtue of her own accomplishments, Wendy. Her students have an amazing teacher.
Ken Tamplin Vocal Academy oh yes. This is evident if you listen to their bass player Marco, comparing his voice from the early days to now, I think I can safely assume he is a Floor student. A fun little observation.
Not a very well prepared review. Not knowing the correct name of the singer and not listening to the end of the song missing the best part. Very dissappointing. No thumbs up!
Jinjer - Pisces Tatiana has one hell of a voice, and the music is very prog-metal, jazzy almost. 10 to 1 you'll dig the track and band. Yes, there is a shock factor, but it only proves she's a powerhouse.
@@kentamplin I actually prefer Jinjer - I Speak Astronomy as it has more vocal styles. Pisces has two (maybe 3). I Speak Astronomy has more. The main reason people recommend Pisces is for the pure shock value on reaction videos.
Before seeing the video above, I would say that Tarja is "operatic" and Floor is "orgasmic" just kidding folks. I'm a straight female, BUT, still.....I have seen this video MANY times, BUT, it still gets me, every time. Floor is just a great vocalist, and she doesn't need to really make much of an effort to sing those lyrics that just bring you chills. That along with her "presence" on stage just make her a RARE talent. I know this is NOT about "presence" but, she just has it. I am not sure how floor would do in an opera, BUT, she sure does great at Nightwish's music BUT she had a bit of trouble with a few songs that were written with Annette's voice in mind, to anyone that doesn't know Annette was the vocalist after Tarja but before Floor, she had much more "pop" type of vocal ability. So, the way that Floor does the singing and "hanging" or as you said how she had "hung" on while singing, the songs written for Annette had been sung without much "hanging" onto a word, the vocals were delivered much faster, in a much more "pop" song fashion. So because of that Floor doesn't do well on SOME songs written for Annette's voice. I have ONLY heard Floor Jansen sing a song with her best friend (Simone) "Sancta terra" which is a metal song, BUT, Floor doesn't really hit many high notes. I forget the bands name BUT, just look up "Sancta Terra" and Floor Jansen and you will find the UA-cam video where Floor sings with her best friend in her best friends band and they sing the song "Sancta terra". Since you mentioned that "caste" thing, I must say that I am glad I wasn't born in India. You can NEVER better yourself. It seems like even in "belting " mode, she doesn't need to strain her voice. At LEAST I don't hear it as her "straining" her voice. I must say that this is the first time having this video play where I haven't broken down in tears, that is likely since the video has been stopped and you have made several comments. I am sure the next time I see it without any stopping of the video, I'll be blubbering again, her vocals just "Floor" me every time. Ken, maybe do a video on Ghost and /or Billy Corgan's vocal's? I don't see that you HAVE already done it.
This live version is sung by Floor Jansen, the current singer. The original studio-version was recorded by Tarja. She was much more "operatic" than Floor. Still an interesting video. Thumbs up.
Yes, Bbs, thank you. I made a mistake calling Floor "Tarja" who was actually in the band when it first formed. Floor is doing an incredible job in that role now.
Thank you for all the detail you gave us on the different vocal styles. It was much appreciated. We all knew that she killed these vocal and now we know how she does it.

Awesome reaction, Ken!! This is my fav song AND my fav band, I got sooo happy to see it here \o/
and I like that your comments are full of experience and knowlegde, thank you for sharing!
(Hope to be your student asap 😄)
Gabriela de Paulo Thank you!
love it how you sing the "when you do that" in the middle of your speech at 15:57 had to listen to that at least 4 times.
Thanks, Rafu01!
Man, you cut the ending! That was the best part!!!
I apologize, furrylittleproblem12. It was an error on my part.
what a nice surprise I found today on UA-cam! Ken, thank you very much for detailed analysis. Very happy that you chose exactly this song. This is my favorite . So much unexpected moments, specialy with chest register, always thought that there a lot of head voice, but now I know what is my next challenge . Looking forward for next videos :)
That is great to hear Alina!
I usually hate UA-cam's "reaction" videos cause they all seem fake. But yours I love because you give an honest real reaction to their singing. Awesome videos, love your channel. Peace, brother!
To be fair, this was not a reaction video. He'd clearly listened to this previously. This was an analysis. Still very cool, though.
You skipped the end!!!! The floorgasm!!!! Nooooooooo!!!!!
My apologies, TualCor.
a shame o skip the end :(
Thanks for doing this, Ken.
Thank you starburstppl, and I am do glad you enjoyed it!
Abree107 League of Legends thanks for all the great information!
as many here has pointed out this is not Tarja, this is Floor Jansen.
When u hear this song sung by Floor and not wait till the very end... Cmon, man! Help me to help you! Haha
Thanks for the suggestion Sanp Vhati!
I am glad you liked the band, and don't worry, you are not the first vocal coach I have seen on UA-cam get the singers mixed up.
I am interested in seeing how you would react to Unleash The Archers.
The best singer of the planet...Hail to the queen Floor Jansen🤘🔥
Thanks for the visit!
Thank you for your expertise of the breakdown of this beautiful masterpiece. I appreciate it. The band members are beyond talented.
You're welcome George, and yes they are!
Thank you so much!!! I loved this reaction! I'm so happy about those informations that you brought to us!
Thank you again!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it, Lucas. Thanks for your kind remarks.
Another find lesson from ken You are absolutely great and looking forward to More stuff in the Future.
What I seriously find most impressive about your reaction, in addition to the very clear expertise you have concerning the matter, is that you actually hit and find the same notes she hits, just like "oh yeah I like how she goes 'ooo-ooo-ooh' and that's this specific style and this is why she does it"
K_A 👍👍👍
Thank you for your detailed wisdom! I love your positive attitude and sharp focus! A true master teacher!
Wonderful analysis! Everything you said made perfect sense and I was able to hear the transitions in her voice. I've learned more about singing in this single video than my entire life. Thank you for that!!
PS I'm a little sad you missed the Floorgasm :/
PPS you redeemed yourself Haha.
Also you skipped the best bit at the end, usually good to watch the performance till the end.
tarja left nightwish in 2005 after end of an era concert .
Lol Ken, I almost clicked off when you said you were reacting to Tarja singing. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. I love Floor, here voice is smooth to me. I’m glad you went back and got the epic ending. Great information!
I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks Jennifer Evans!
Nightwish sounds Magnificent !!! , enjoyed it !! awesome reaction video ken!!! 😁🖒
Thanks EucalyptaYukari!
Everyone always calls her a soprano but I saw an interview where she says she see's that but it isnt the case...and she hasnt done opera she knows she has the voice for it and has done it but shes not trained in it or likes it. She likes what she does.
Really interesting insight Ken. Thxs again Wilf
Always enjoy your excitement for the voice! Thanks Brother!
Ken thank you so much for the video :) i'm fan of Nightwish and i follow your channel so this is a perfect video for me !!
you missed the best part!!
Very good reaction, I love your technical explanations. Thanks.
Thanks, Joao!
Since you missed the floorgasm, I think you own us a Tarja song.
Try Tarja-Supremacy(hellfest). She held a C#6 note there and sings low note with heavy chest tone
You are an awesome coach! Thanks! Really💜 just...don't miss the last part ever again hahaha it is just too good
I really enjoy watching ur videos on my way home. Rock on Ken!
Thanks Joseph!
Ok I never leave comments but here is mine: I love Nightwish's songs and I watched a lot of reactions even of others "Vocal Couch" ;
My personal consideration is: "Damn, finally I am watching a real professionist doing a real reaction on the voice quality of this Singer".
I would love to learn by someone as you, Good Job man!
Thanks Michael, and you can! Check out my singing course kentamplinvocalacademy.com/
The history lesson and the analysis of her voice was really amazing. A lot of respect to you as a vocal coach, Ken.
JaguarStar Happy to hear that. Thank you!
I'm sorry mate. I love your reaction! It was honest and very professional, but the fact you missed the "floorgasm" still hurts me a lot. I'm sure you have heard it by now, but I wish so much I would have heart it. You seems like a really nice guy so I subscribed.
Thank you for subscribing, sulosky.
that explanation about technical opera was pure gold
Ken, every one word you said is so meaningfull!!!
Please do the reaction again without cutting out the most beautiful floorgasm
Could you react to their cover of Phantom of the Opera? Really showcases the elements you're discussing, as it's a Musical Theatre song (not to mention it's an amazing cover too!)
And actually sung by Tarja too 😂
Thanks for the suggestion, Marcus!
OH MY GOD! YOU TOO!? (pardon the caps) I mean the Ghost Love Score reactions are really getting popular.
I bet this guy drinks a lot of coffee. I mean a LOT.
I believe, he injects it.
Ken you are an amazing singer..i love watching your reactions..please dont stop it haha
That's not Tarja. It's Floor, who came after Tarja left. Tarja is much more operatic than Floor.
There was Annette after Tarja. Floor is already the third singer
@@peterw.4737 And yet she also came after Tarja. Mystery of mysteries!
Love these reaction videos ❤️
Thank you Ken
You're welcome, Lynne!
Been watching your videos for years. The vast amount of knowledge you have is just amazing. Love from Sri Lanka
Thanks, Aaron!
KEN TAMPLIN
Sorry, I am late! Great reaction! Thank you for explaining!
Thanks ROCKETJEFF!
Not a very well prepared review. Not knowing the correct name of the singer and not listening to the end of the song missing the best part. Very dissappointing. No thumbs up!
I like this band on of my favorites
Jinjer - Pisces
Tatiana has one hell of a voice, and the music is very prog-metal, jazzy almost. 10 to 1 you'll dig the track and band. Yes, there is a shock factor, but it only proves she's a powerhouse.
Carl 👍👍👍
@@kentamplin 😍🌹❤
holy crap - you have an amazing "female operatic voice" for a man - i was not expecting that dude - impressive :)
Thanks Ger Gemini!
Floor Jensen is a godess 💓💓💓👏👏👏👏👏👏 greetings Ken ✌✌✌
Ahh you cut the high G# out at the end, heaven felt that note.
Thank you for all the detail you gave us on the different vocal styles. It was much appreciated. We all knew that she killed these vocal and now we know how she does it.
So glad it was helpful to you 41 swashbuckler!
