"MAXINE THE HERO" - SHORT FILM

- A 15 year old aspiring director makes her first short film in an effort to prove that she can one day be one of the best.
DIRECTOR'S NOTE:
Maxine The Hero is an incredibly important film, not just for young filmmakers out there, but for any dreamers in any field of work. I wanted this film to inspire those who felt that they weren't getting the support they needed in order to pursue their dreams. Maxine The Hero is about a young girl named Marley who finally goes out and does it. She makes a film of her own, not just to prove her mother wrong but to prove herself right.
I feel extremely close to Marley. I moved out at a young age and pursued this terrifying dream without ever looking back. I faced an incredible amount of doubt coming from my own family and friends. And it hurt. It made me second guess everything and even though sometimes their skepticism came from a place of love, it was just another thing making my goals seem further and further out of reach. Marley's mother, Pam, is full of doubt, or should I say, fear. The fear of risk - something different. She doesn't think her daughter can't do it, but the thought of her failing is just too much. Her father on the other hand, is fully supportive. He wants to see her take the jump because its something he didn't do himself when he was younger. Marley's father is her backbone. He ignites that drive that was already dwelling within her. And I think that is very important. I hope that this film can be some form of ignition for those who don't have a Richard in their lives. Because we all deserve that push.
I had the time of my life making this film, from the writing process down to the score. In the two days we had to shoot this, we truly all became a family. The night before our first day, I was incredibly nervous. Directing these young kids could have been a huge challenge, as i've never done anything like it before. Paula, who plays Jada, had never been on a real set before. I did not know what to expect. But by the time we were shooting the very first scene, I knew, with this cast, this film was going to be something special...
I make a lot of films with my friends, much like Marley. Donald, my cinematographer, Jessica my writer, Frankie my producer - are all some of my closest friends. I think that is why when Jessica and I were putting this story together we really wanted Marley to form a crew of her own. You need friends, partners, and collaborators to make a movie. So, from the bottom of my heart... thank you to my amazing cast and crew who helped bring this thing to life. And I hope that all of you watching enjoy every second of this little adventure that is... MAXINE THE HERO!

I found this channel a little over a week ago and I'm just honestly in awe of your talent. 14 minutes and 46 seconds. In these 14 minutes and 46 seconds, this film left a message stronger and better than most Hollywood movies nowadays. Words simply fall short to express how much I'm loving this film. I'm only a little over halfway through this and I'm actually crying. Seeing you go from the very beginning of your channel to making films like this is honestly so amazing. I didn't think I'd identify with Marley like I do but from the way she acts to how passionate she is about making films it's hard for me not to. This is amazing and I hope that one day I'll stop being a wishbone and become more of a backbone. From the story, to the color grading and framing, this film is everything. I really love it. My favourite thing about this entire film is how utterly realistic the dialogue is throughout. The majority of short films or even full-length films sound immensely scripted when the characters interact, but all of the characters in this sound like they’re truly just speaking and letting the story play out. These characters are dimensional and have substance. This story is terrific and inspirational. I’ve watched this about five times in a row just to fully comprehend how much I love it. Way to go, Mikey, please keep it up. 💕

I wish I had an adult like her father. I told them I wanted to do an artistic career and of course, every parents would say no. My mum would always say, how would it help the family, it's not worth it. I understand that she was saying this because we came from a poor family. Not even teachers acknowledge my idea other than criticising with their faces. Even my "back up career" get such comment like why did you choose a difficult path of career. My intention in the first place was never be able to "choose" I have the choice but I don't have the choice if I want to follow my goals. It's not like I could choose to have fashion designing to be easily available in this country. I want to pursue it. Anyway. Thank you for the film. It was very meaningful ❤

It's incredible how in just 14 minutes you could tell a story that a majority of people could relate to and how you could give such an important message. That's talent. I got chills at the end of the film because it's just incredible how you can take us back in time and make us relate to something. That's the power of film and you do that perfectly. As I said that is talent.
I'm a 15 year old girl who has been making youtube videos and short films for a while now. I have really grown to love the art of movies and film making. When I heard the plot of this film, I was blown away because it felt like I was hearing the exact same situation that I'm in. Watching this for the first time, in tears, I feel like MIkey is speaking to me and I've never related to anything more. Thank you Mikey.

I've finished my Masters and soon will be doing my PhD but I'm not sure is this really what I wanted to do?...I really wanted to travel but dad said we all want that....then I wanted to do photography but again end up as hobby not professionally.

It's hard to make a decision of who do you want to become if very few people actually support what you decide on. Especially when they are your closest such as family. Everyone and everything is saying that you should be this or that and when you're not capable of satisfying the demands you're considered a social fallout, a weirdo with unrealistic dreams. Mikey I absolutely love everything about this movie. The girls, the atmosphere and most importantly the message that I'm sure helped not only me but thousands of people watching this, realizing it is possible. The dreams are to be chased, the risk is worth taking and all of us can find the backbone within ourselves. Thank you

14 minutes and 46 seconds of absolute SOLID content. I am in love! I love this short film so much as well as the rest, you and your crew are the absolute best. I love you and everything your crew does, it really is hard seeing someone else living your dream 😂 but in the same way just as inspiring. Everyone that has put any time into any of these short films I automatically look up to. This short film in particular has really just got me because I feel as if I was watching my own story, my own beginning. I only have one supporting parent but I don’t live with them and I don’t have a camera so I use my phone and I don’t have any friends willing to be in my short films that I write so I just take real life situations and caption/film them in the moment and try to recreate my feelings into a video and I’m a junior now still trying to earn enough money for a camera and trying to find people to act in my films which is tough in a small town but I’ll get there someday and I just want to say thank you to Mikey Murphy and his whole crew and crews from every single short film he’s done for keeping me inspired and reminding me to never give up on my dream
