CAN I GET AN AUTOGRAPHED SHIRT TO HANG ON MY WALL
I understand that this build will probably be wrapped but I’d like to see you paint again. I always thought those were cool videos. Hope you’re not done painting.
Did I miss the link to your other channel it was supposed to be down below
since sears went the way of the dodo HARBOR FREIGHT has been my GO TO and i have had no complaints.(except not using paper coupons anymore. I'm old and don't like change)
Line-X the camper
You should probably add a wind deflector to the roof so those solar panels aren't assaulted by bugs
Not to mention weather elements and aerodynamics. Could save on gas, and also long term durability.
Not to mention rocks from highway. He should have installed them on the flat part of the roof.
the light bar already is a wind deflector- anything that doesn't smack into the lightbar will glide over/under it by air
there is some surface area for impact, but it's already pretty minimal considering it's basically a box truck now. My concern would just be hail- but I don't know if Oregon sees hail like colorado does
@@austinh1028 trees are going to love those solar panels regardless
Update to led bulbs on your headlights!!!
Hey Chris, I am glad you are taking the time to improve your equipment and to ask feedback about your new camera, the quality is good, I see blocking with quick movements which might come from the video encoding parameters in your editing software (bitrate perhaps), I hear audio clipping (saturating, too loud) from your microphone, and at this point it would be worth transitioning to 4k as most new TV can take advantage of it and you see a lot more details of the pieces you are fabricating. You are going in the right direction, keep tuning Chris!
Hmm I would say many people are using new Iphone as their camera setup and it's giving much better quality and stabilization don't you think? and it also produces 4K videos.
@Mian G keep in mind that he already said he purchased a new camera and it's supposed to be one of the best on the market, so he possibly is one setting away from 4k.
Ready to see the boat build come back..👍👍
My first thought was that the metal camper exterior needs to be coated with 'ceramic' paint to protect from the suns heat, if not, you are building the worlds largest Easy Bake Oven. Plus, I hope I misheard you say that everything was going to be black when it is finished. If that is true, no reasonable amount of AC or insulation is going to make it comfortable for use between March 15th and October 31st each year. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
I never noticed the camera quality before but I can say now that it looks crisp 👌
I hope you'll make a separate box for the generators and sound proof it very good!!
Fun thing with solar panels for me lately, we found a 300 watt panel and bought it for precisely 3 dollars. It only needs some clear epoxy repair to the shattered glass top but otherwise it still puts out its full 48 volts under direct sunlight. Basically, including the 10 bucks of epoxy and 10 more bucks in hardware to facilitate the repair, we saved like 90% or more on the price! It pays to be able to check if the solar cells are intact on a damaged panel, that way you get buy one for super cheap, cheaply repair it and have a panel only slightly less efficient for far less money despite the time investment and use of floor space to fix it.
Cam looks great
You should paint the camper white. It you paint it black you will roast inside when it bakes in the sun. Just a thought.
Loving this build guy's!
UNDERBITE like a bulldog! I love it!!!
I wonder if the new interior would fit from the new rams
Geniuses!!!! ❤
Another great episode guys keep'em comin
Would have looked nice to inset the light bar into the box
About the video quality, 4K would be pretty cool..
I have always loved your channel, just hate the lighting of the videos😂
Rather thasn being visual, this should be functional. Make sure it works.
Give me 4k and a less washed out pic, love the vids but it lets me down when I can’t see stuff in full quality. Thanks for updating your equipment though, hopefully it improves. Think something like Tavarish in terms of quality 👍🏽
Those 100w panels aren't gonna be able to provide much power at all. If you're thinking about having multiple people in there charging, cooking, gaming, etc, you're gonna want at least 1600-2000w of panels on the roof (you have the real estate) and a couple 3000w inverters, plus at least 600AH of LiFePo4 batteries (I would double that), which will likely need at least 3-4 separate MPPT charge controllers.
Tesla powered boat sounds like an absolute nightmare… maybe a Tesla powered mini boat, but not the behemoth you have
Firewall 🙏
If you uploaded 1440p videos, the 1080p versions will be re-rendered in a higher bitrate than when uploading a 1080p video by itself.... youtube be weird like that.
I would strongly recommend considering bigger brake lights and turn signals in the rear. Potentially on the big rear panel, look at the rear of a cutaway bus for inspiration if needed.
Can’t hurt to let people know you’re braking more brightly
Yeah might want to add some reflective tape around the perimeter too consider how big it is.
I was going to suggest the same. Specially If the back looks that agreassive, people could get distracted looking at the tires or the construction.....or something. Plus the Bumper doesn't stick out far enough and it is to low, I could se a situation were a truck or bus could not see the breaking ligths. I am pretty sure there are some regulations that tells you how big your break ligths should be for the certain size of the truck.
yeah i worked on trucks and trailers for a long time, and rear lighting and reflectors is a HUGE deal. make yourself visible! i think with a vehicle of that height, DOT might mandate upper corner lights and tri-lights in the upper middle, as well as front upper amber marker lights. easy tho, since the whole thing is steel.
I agree, just get whatever school buses are using, it's clear and it's compliant
@Carlos Celurian Torreblanca they get distracted that's there problem
Couple things, Love the build so far! I'm really curious about the added weight of everything at the end. For the solar panels, you'll likely want standoffs to allow them to stay cool so that airflow can go under the panels. Cooling them properly will increase the performance. You can get an mppt solar charge controller that can charge that battery bank too from the solar too. So far it's looking great!!! Camera quality looks good too!
100% agree on the air gap under the panels. Definitely needed for max efficiency 😊
Commenting to feed the algorithm, Ill be back once this build is over! Cheers!
Lol
Good idea
Chris, just from knowing about solar, I sincerely think you'll be wanting as many panels as you can find a way to fit. The thing is, panels almost never get their full output, because sunlight angle and intensity have to be perfect for that to occur. You should instead bet on about half the output most of the time, and that's assuming you've got the panels facing into the sun (so facing South in the northern hemisphere).
For your project, if possible, I'd be shooting for 1000W worth of panels if you can, because you'll probably only see 500W usable most of the time, which is enough to drive a few things (fridge, lighting, battery charger, maybe 1 computer). Or, to charge your battery units.
For example, I have 325W panels on the roof of my house, and could theoretically produce 15.8kW but I almost never see about 13kW even under ideal weather conditions. And that's only for maybe 90 minutes out of the whole day. And that means I produce an average of 36kWh per day, or 3kWh per daylight hour. And that's with 15 times the amount of generation that I'm suggesting you aim for.
I think less than 1000W of panels will functionally do so little that you'll really not be using them, and will rely on the generators exclusively.
You should dynamat the entire interior while you have the access
especially the front panels that take most of the wind. but dynamat would be really pricey to do much of this thing though. basically need to spray foam it lol
@Curley,
2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, we insulated with:
* adhesive-back acoustic against the outside wall, a gap, then
* one-inch pink-board, another air-gap, then
* two-inch foil-side poly.
Very quiet inside for afternoon naps, nobody outside can eavesdrop on our afternoon activities.
Cool build. With the solar panels on the front face of the camper, they might be hit by any trees your off roader might bashed through. Consider installing rub rails on the sides of the panels to protect them..
mount your enerators in pull out trays install some long lockale storage raws and also put your batteries on a pull out tray to be easyer to check and swap out if needed. you also need 360 arwnings one at the rear to cover your generators and one on each side
I came here to comment that I am imagining some sort of pull out tray for the generators too - great minds think alike.
i'd be trying to find a way to build a battery box under the floor, between the frame rails.
@@myopinion69420 and maybe a fuel cell to hold extra for the gennys, gravity feed into a gas can for easy refueling
@@ghomerhust I was even going to suggest one of the Tesla batteries, but an extra ~500+kg (1100lbs) is probably to much. maybe a battery from a Nissan Leaf or something.
@@myopinion69420
2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, we mounted our bank between the frame-rails over the rear axle.
.
We prefer our mass between the axles, instead of hanging out to be banged... and increasing centrifugal forces during turns and rough roads.
Hey Chris, your pod lights are floods, they’ll give you lots of light a short distance in front of the truck, you’ll want to change them to spot or driving lights for something that’s actually useful
...not to mention issues with blinding oncoming traffic as well :)
Exactly and then put the floods on the back for reverse lighting.
@@noobFab Came here to say this
@@noobFabyep, no cutoff line whatsoever
I was thinking just some Amazon projectors and you could run them all the time.. flood lights there was definitely a rookie move.
It seems there is a spot on the lens or sensor starting around 3:50 towards the middle and bottom
Black will look cool, but it could be pretty hot during the summer. Like a giant oven.
Funny how you invested so much having the boat with LSes and even before using it you want to tesla swap it.. But youtube economics are wired, will love to see the tesla swapping anyway :)
You should collab with Will Prowse on the battery bank, inverter, charge controller, solar panel system
I don't know if you explained it already and I missed it but where is Kyle? Anybody.
Good to see this build back again, it's getting more interesting as it progresses.
I would consider something like a Bunch of Ecoflow (or similar) battery modules chained together for the power solution, since they can sort of automagically charge from solar, 12v (truck accessory) and 120v(generator) sources. LTT has made a video on a similar solution in the past (ua-cam.com/video/JIfPIgwpJSg/v-deo.html ). Also those panels are not that high power output for their size (take a look at some LG or Sunpower models for the best ones) and I think they are gonna get damaged super duper fast being on that leading edge.
Camera critique: When you're talking directly to the camera, look at the lens, because your attention looks like it's slightly off to the side. Perhaps you're looking at the screen as you talk?
Has Kyle left the channel ?
Hello Chris ! For the video quality, you should invest in a stabilizer like a entry Ronin for your dslr, it just make filming yourself and moving shots very smooth ! Hope it helps
I was gonna say the same. Needs a stabilizer for when he's walking around.
Vid quality looks good till you move then it's very jerky.
I noticed the old camera looking terrible on my TV when I watched the videos. This new setup looks incredible though!!
Next build… something amphibious… people love cars, people love boats people really love the two together. Just saying. Can tow that build with this and you can go in water or down the road.
Feedback on the recordings; your audio levels (now and in the past) seem to be very high. I have to turn the volume down quite a bit relative to most other channels I watch. Content is great! 👍
Please for the love of God do fridge magnet overlander merch z😂
It gets heavier and heavier… soon you’ll have the Taj Mahal on wheels… maybe throw one or two Viper Turbo Engines under the hood…😂
(Or you take your leftover boat engines…)
New Camera feedback
Depth Focus issues:
6:32 to 6:34
6:50 to 7:12
12:19 to 12:30 (really annoying)
13:00 to 13:56
14:46 to 15:10 (really really bad)
17:15 to 17:46
18:15 to 18:36 (pretty bad)
18:40 to end
It’s like the camera has a depth of focus setting optimised to about 1.5m to 4m from the lens and an auto focus function which is switching when your hand comes in or you move the camera. Whatever the settings are, they are too extreme as near background or foreground items are too heavily distorted. Reminds me of when I don’t have my glasses on. The speed of the focus switch is also so aggressive it’s irritating as hell.
Audio pickup issues:
11:55 to 11:59 can’t hear Oscar
17:17 Oscar is super quiet
In general seems that the audio which isn’t from you is super quiet, like there is a background noise cancellation or reduction setting. This is making Oscar whisper quiet.
I’m going to finish watching this build to watch “ his talent “ but I’m going to un sub afterwards…. You should get it. Oscar is a talented MFR..!! 💯💯💪
With the solar panels on the front of the camper at an angle, they're probably only going to work effectively when you make the camper face the sun.
Not sure if that was the intended goal (they WILL work better than if they were on the roof), but it means they'll be at a disadvantage in every other scenario. Was wondering if this was known.
Definitely not an expert on this, so would love to hear someone more knowledgeable chime in, but I figure that them being on the roof of the camper would at least ensure higher average coverage than front angled?
3:35 some parts of this video look a bit dark but the one big thing for quality you can do is film and upload in 4k. UA-cam has a strong compression algo and 1080p video looks a lot worse than it should, so much so that using 4k on a 1080p display is noticeably better. Slowmo guys talk about this problem all the time feel free to test it out yourself. Especially for bits like this where you're talking to the camera, the image pretty fuzzy and soft when in reality.
New character unlocked.... I'm glad to see you getting more help in the shop
Still waiting for a update on this camper
Who's ready for this and the tesla content to be over...
why not make a pullout flat draw for all the things in the back for easy access. and that way you could store things behind all the stuff thats closer to the back
While the quality of the new camera is pretty great, the shallower depth of field makes it rough to watch on a big tv. The constantly adjusting focus gives me a bit of motion sickness when you move around a lot and when you’re doing the “selfie” shots, the background being so out of focus seems way more more distracting. Your style of shooting really was perfect for GoPros or whatever you were using before so it might just be a matter of doing less camera movement or using a different lens setup with a wider angle and less focus fall off. Love the channel though so hope you can make some tweaks to the new setup!
Don’t say “ you suck”. Lmfao. Ok. You don’t suck. Lol. Love you guys. Thanks for the awesome content
It might be worth it to add two high output alternators to help with the electrical load. Charging the system while driving meaning you'll always be near 100% whenever you stop
On our Cummins 8.3, I swapped the small-house 160a intermittent-duty for a big-house 220a continuous duty.
i may have missed this answer, but where is Kyle these days?
Don't paint it black, heat absorbs easily in black. You'll make it a hot box and electronics don't go good with heat, white or a metallic color is recommended.
If not mentioned already those inverters have a propane kit you can buy! It's pretty cool to be able to switch between gas and propane.
Cool build so far , please pay real attention to the roof though, a proper membrane fitted would alleviate any water ingress which would soon ruin all the hard work you guys have done so far , leaks in an RV are a real pain to find & fix !
Make sure to run a transfer switch for the generator and inverter/shore power. Never want them on all at the time. Maybe have an electrician help with the on board AC distribution setup.
Great build. Please put the batteries under the car in the middle to balance all the load. It will increase the stability. Keep on trucking 🚚 us 🇺🇲 🇩🇰
You suck... at being boring.... 😂 love the builds. Love the channel.
So…. What happened??? You never finished this build??? 🙄
My critique: I love your content bro. Been following for many years. Keep doing it and most importantly stay healthy and positive. You are a great person.
I know you guys like the idea of black, but black won't be good with the solar panels because the truck will absorb a lot of the heat.
Dude don't paint a huge metal box black. You're going to absolutely melt in the sun.
You are going to want more solar panels and I wouldnt mount them flush with the roof. Space them off an inch or two.
Is there any updates on this rig?
I heard you say you plan on painting it black, please paint the roof white, unless you like your bugout camper to be hot all the time
i think the camera looks great. its very steady shot when moving around and lighting seems good too me
Those bumper lights will do a great job blinding other drivers on the road, good work!
100% you want to paint that WHITE !!! or it will get crazy HOT !!
Hi. Any news on your Boat or it’s dead now, it’s summer time bro. Let’s do it and yes you can.
Might wanna add a retractable awning on both sides just so you can work on things in the shade when your out in the wild
a good prank would be to point the lightbar into chis's window when he is sleeping.
how did you 3D print the bodykit for the mustang?
what happened to this? I subscribed to see it and it has just disappeared without a word..
Doesn't matter what camera you use if you keep uploading at 1080 UA-cam will always use an extremely low bitrate on your videos.
What happend to Kyle?
I literally forgot about the boat you got so much stuff going on crazy times
Is kyle still with u guys or had he parted company with u
Did you say the camper is made of STEEL? 😂
Great build!
New camera is not very sharp, almost blurry.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Even had to check if the quality went down to 480p. Really bad.
@@adoksym I did exactly the same thing!
I hope you have considered ventilation for your battery banks and generators, I love this series
Are you going to use that big space underneath the floor behind the rear axles? Could under hang the batteries down there.
Camera looks good. Build looks awesome. Are you guys going to fabricate an air ride suspension system for the rear?
Your video quality has always been fine for me, as we are on slow internet with Telstra here in Australia, so I can only watch you video at 720P anyway. So even if you have like 4K video, I couldn't watch it at that resolution anyway.
Just got a bush bar That would work for that Underbite
The camera quality is good, great build. Been watching you for years.
Run an exhaust pipe to the generators towards the outside of the rig
Don't paint it black. Will just make it hot as hell
One of my top ranking favorite builds
Might want to figure out a cover for the solar panels so that rocks and stuff from the road doesn't knock them out.
see you in 3 years, when it still isn't finished :/
The camera quality is honestly so good
Will we have 4th of July boat content 😂
Should add lower storage on each side of the rear wheels
