Using Dry Shampoo On Dreadlocks?

  • Dry shampoo to me seems like an oxymoron. It's shampoo... but it's dry. Anyhow, the ability to "wash" hair without getting it wet obviously appeals to dreadheads, because drying dreads is a pain... but should you use it? (Spoiler: No).

    Can I get ahead of the inevitable: "Which dry shampoo did you use that time you used dry shampoo?" questions. I'm not going to list/recommend a particular dry shampoo because I'm not going to recommend using it.

      My mom uses not your mothers dry shampoo. Ive never been a big fan of dry shampoos. And now that ive started my dread Journey (1 week in but hey its a start) I wouldnt start doing it now. Also as far as washing goes. Ive washed 1 to 2 times a week for over a year now.

    I love your videos so much. My 2 1/2 year mark is coming up soon! I had mine started by a friend (and fellow dread head) on 29 April, 2016. Had maintenance done once, then discovered a bunch of natural and freeform groups on Facebook, and watched through ALL of your videos and decided against taking a crochet hook to my hair again. To each their own I say. I just love the messier, more natural look, and really don't like spending the time fussing with it, especially when it's not really necessary.
    Keep up the great videos mate! This is THE BEST dreadlock channel on UA-cam!

    Ya I agree, no dry shampoo on dreads. I have used it on my loose hair puff in the front, but just like for special events for volume. I can easily brush it out of my loose hair, but I don't get it on my dreads. Salt water spray works a bit for in between washes instead.

      Sea water is good for baby locks, pool water with chlorine is NOT. I learned this from Lazy Dreads & some other places too. Water on it's own is no problem at all but stay away from swimming pools with lots of chemicals. Swim in the sea all day long! the salt in the sea will actually help your dreads lock up in a natural & healthy way so enjoy your holiday :D

    Wash my dreads ones a week with a soapbar for many year's now....sometimes use a lotion on the scalp because it smells nice and feels nice, and my hair and scalp are hydrated...so NO I wouldn't try dry shampoo, don't want any kind of residues in my hair 🙃

    • @sammarley8978
      @sammarley8978 5 років тому +1

      Mistress if you dye your dreads you MUSTTTTTTT keep your hair moisturize or it’ll break your hair just like how it would for someone w/o dreads. I’ve been growing mine for 5 yrs & I say about 2yrs in I dyed the ends. Big mistake for me seeing how I don’t like to grease or oil my hair. Now that my hair outgrew the color I noticed that some of the ends that are colored are thinner than those that ends were kept black.

    Doubt I'll get a response but my roots coming in won't nap up.. I do them I crochet all the lil baby hairs into the locs.. then 2 days later all the work I did gets un done & its a frizzy mess.. im guessing my hair is too oily so it just falls apart because there's not enough friction.. which the dry shampoo would help with but now people are saying it just causes build up... mine are about 4 months old... the ends are fried from dying them & thats my fault but I'm done dying them I just want them to look healthy but there's like a fine line between healthy & too oily... what do I do plz help!!

    Question, will putting your hair in a ponytail affect the maturation process?

    • @terrip8451
      @terrip8451 5 років тому +1

      YES!!! Trust me. I put mine in a low ponytail or low loose bun when I go out, and the bottom three rows are having a harder time locking than the dreads on top of my head because I'm always pulling them back. To give myself more confidence with them (2.5 months old) and keep myself from slowing the process, I put a few wraps in my problematic dreads for a week at a time so my baby dreads don't swallow them. Helped them form knots and stay together better.

    I recently got my twist and rip dreads and i wanna know when can i wash them?

    • @ebonynope8168
      @ebonynope8168 4 роки тому

      Gabriel Takashi you can wash them now, just be gentle and try not bring your fingers through the hair to unravel the locs. The soak and squeeze method has been working for me, where you soak the locs, disperse the shampoo on the locs, then squeeze it like you’re ringing a mop. Rinse the same way. Towel dab dry, then depending on the loc thickness, when you squeeze and only a little little bit of water comes out, then it’s safe to use a blow dryer to get rid of the excess moisture without damaging the hair. Once the hair is 95-100% dry, use water based, wax-free loc gel to retwist them. I find that loc latching works best on keeping locs tidy for much longer than retwisting, but unless you’re very experienced with crochet hooks and tools, you should hold out on latching until the locs have begun to take form.
