I disagree with Jeremy's assessment of Zemo. He was a breath of fresh air for the villains of the MCU. Instead of wanting to end the world, he just wanted revenge, and he did it in a very intelligent way.

SPOILERS Zemo framing Bucky for the bombing at the Vienna convention and the question of what to do with Bucky is really what ends up tearing the Avengers apart. So I totally disagree with Jeremy about Zemo being useless to the plot.

+DanteWolfwood I think BvS was too early. They should have done build up, then BvS might have turned more amazing, seeing we know and understand those characters. They suddenly introduced Batman and made him fight Superman who had just appeared in one movie before. More over David Goyer was the script writer, and few edits made by Terrio. Civil war had plenty of build up unlike BvS. Civil War is Marvel's 13th movie, DOJ is 2nd.
I think WB must take time and introduce all characters in solo movies, and then make a Justice league.

It was emotionally driven Tony at that point and after what happened to Warmachine. He lost it so there was no logic at the point. He showed up to help them because Cap was right about Zemo and the Winter Soldiers project. Brainwashed or not logic wasn't in control at that point; Tony wanted to kill the person that murdered his parents.

Disagree: I thought the "villain" here did great, because he wasn't a villain. He was merely the catalyst starting the civil war. And you can look at him as the embodiment of what the world thinks of the Avengers: they are becoming more scared than anything, because they wield almost unlimited power without oversight. I think the story and movie would have been a lot weaker without him. One man's opinion.
Totally agreed. Bruhl did a good job with the material he was given as a performer and provided a manifestation of the consequences of having a massive brawl at the end of every movie.
He was a villain though. Killed a lot of innocent people to make a point. Sociopath. Tragic sociopath, but sociopath all the same.

About the villain...I honestly think this is one of the best villains the MCU has shown so far. What made Loki so great? He had conflicts and motivation. Zemo has both of them. He is conflicted, and he has a very strong motivation to do what he did. In fact, Zemo is one of the best examples of what superhero damage can do to a formerly normal person. And Daniel Brühl was great at delivering it. Plus, if he would not have been in the movie, some very crucial moments in the beginning and the end would not have happened. I for one really did enjoy Zemo and think he was one of the better MCU villains.

I would say that he is neither memorable nor powerful, but pur into the context of the movie, to see a guy of his power sets and skills do this damage ... that's TERRIFYING. Also his motivation makes sense and we can get behind, which is also a plus. He final speech of "shit sorry about ______ your _____, was not personal" really humanizes him.

Saw the movie last night and it is everything I wanted it to be and MORE! The script is amazing for a superhero movie, very dramatic and emotional but yet very funny and enjoyable, I love Tom Holland as Spider-Man, but I love him even more as Peter Parker! Black Panther was amazing, Ant-Man was hilarious, the visuals are great, the FIGHT SCENES are EVERYTHING, the performances from Chris Evans, RDJ and Sebastian Stan are so on point, I also love how Zemo fits into the story and pushes the confilct even further, guys I can't wait to watch it again so I can fully enjoy it because I was clapping and screaming the whole time and kinda missed some lines. Its a 10/ 10 for me. Bravo to the Russo Brothers, Infiniry War is in good hands.

The movie is both a sequel to AoU and WS, but the tone is a Captain America through and through.

Cap early in the movie points out how he really had nobody left from his time after Peggy Carter passes away. At the end of the movie he even loses his home and family in The Avengers and he is without Bucky as well. The only person to get what they wanted the villain and even his ending was taken from him. That is probably why people love the Captain America movies. The characters had fun and you had a good time watching, but you don't leave feeling like there was a happy ending. But it was still good.
DC and Marvel fanboys/selective haters are both pathetic. While you guys get mad when the other studio releases a movie, I enjoy the best of both worlds.

Zemo is actually one of my favorite villains ever. No power just a normal guy but he's just as capable of destroying the avengers as anyone. If they'd never been torn apart in civil war the events of infinity war and endgame may have never even transpired due to the avengers sticking together and being prepared for thanos. Civil War really tore the avengers apart and gave Thanos the opportunity to do what he needed to do and that's why Civil War and Zemo will always have a special place in my heart

The "bad guy" was important because he succeeded in making the heroes fight each other. He made Bucky act the way he did to made Captain America oppose Tony Stark when he was still on the fence about this. He also showed Tony something Bucky did a while back (I almost spoiled the fun lol) and make him loose his cool.

I just saw the movie and I loved it. Great action. I really like the way they introduced Black Panther to the MCU. And this is by far the best iteration of Spider-Man on the big screen to date.
I really liked Zemo and how he was used. To me, the villain had to be understated in this movie because the real conflict was between the opposing ideals of Cap and Iron Man. Zemo provided the spark to a flame that was already about to ignite. Without the catalyst that Zemo provided, it's possible that the Avengers never would've come to blows the way they did.
This film gets an A+ from me. My only complaint is that the film left me wanting more. And I'm really looking forward to the Black Panther and Spider-Man movies.
Spider-Man was very good. But best? Nope. Let's be optimistic. lets a see a movie first not 10 mins of screen time. Hahahah

I actually hope this movie is great. But rest assured, if it has flaws, Marvel fanboys, you are going to read and hear about them. Fair is fair, buckaroos.

Zemo is a HUMAN and did what Loki did back in 2012. Put them against eachother. Enough said!
Unlike Loki, though, Zemo actually did some digging to find something that would really set the two leading members of the Avengers against each other. And for his coup de grace, he had that recording of Bucky murdering Tony's parents to enrage him.
Loki caused some confusion and got them to fight for a bit due to uncontrollable circumstances. Zemo convinced them to fight, and to do so without holding back, to the point where they nearly killed each other (and Rhodey ended up crippled for the time being). Even when the rift was on the verge of maybe-somehow healing, that clip of Bucky killing Tony's Mother and Father (and then admitting he'd known about it and not told him the entire time) that made the splintering a longer-term affair.
They may not have killed each other, but Zemo did a helluva more damage to the Avengers than either Loki and his alien army, or Ultron, managed to.

Most of these characters killed before. Even the (spoiler) incident was a complete accident. While Loki had Hulk fighting everyone, someone who doesn't hold back.

Zemo had to be there. If he wasn’t, there would not have been the bombing at Zienna. Therefore, Black Panther wouldn’t have been in the picture and no one would have went after Bucky. If no one went after Bucky, Cap wouldn’t have helped him or learned about the super soldiers which means there would be no reason for Cap to fight Iron Man. They probably would have talked it over.

I honestly thought zemo was one of the best parts of the film. He wasn't over the top or cartooney. he wasn't wise cracking or funny. He was very empathtic and well used in my opinion and his last scene explained why he was so good very well.

You are so wrong about Zemo, Jeremy. The characters would not have ended up where they ended up without Zemo's workings. The bombing at the UN brought Bucky out of hiding. That right there set up the last two HOURS of the whole movie. You edit Zemo out, the movie isn't down one action scene, it's down two hours of film.

trisha Hernz Actually, Zemo already discovered the significance of December 16, 1991 when he was decrypting Hydra files Black Widow released during the Winter Soldier film. He likely found that date, saw there was something significant about it, and then tracked down that Soviet agent, who was obviously the one who gave Bucky that mission on that particular date in the beginning of the film.
Zemo likely figured out (or it was stated in the Hydra files, not sure), that this date had to do with Bucky targeting Stark's parents. And maybe in the Hydra files, it said something about that date (just speculating) like,
"Mission accomplished by asset (meaning the Winter Soldier). Asset discovered and destroyed camera in vicinity. Surveillance footage of mission has been recovered."
Zemo reading this, now knows there is footage of the killings, tracks the Soviet agent down in Cleveland, and that's why he asks him about that date, wants know where their base was, and in addition, where they kept that footage so he could use it against Stark.

Alara :/ Actually he said he still has the "overall" feeling of Zemo he expresses in this video, but after watching the movie a second time, he sympathizes more with Zemo. Basically, Jeremy thought Zemo was unnecessary and his motivation were not very good. After a second viewing, he still feels Zemo isn't necessary, but accepts Zemo's motivations more.
