  • My review of the Asus Zephyrus G14 GA401 with the AMD Ryzen 6900HS and Radeon RX 6800S. This is the best gaming laptop Asus makes in the 14" form factor. And is WAY faster than the previous version.

    For the Ergo-Lift hinge, I had an Asus who's screen used to get insanely hot after long gaming sessions and I used it for over two years and saw no visible issues with it. I think the screens themselves have a thick layer on top of them which dissipates the heat and protects the screen, but it is safe to say that the heat won't damage the screen.

      @Sky Gardener
      A laptop cooling fan that blows down would just make the laptop hotter. You want the cooling fan to blow up since laptops suck air in from the bottom.

    It's great to see this laptop getting some love. I bought the 2020 G14 because of your review and it's still going strong. Only drawback is the lack of webcam, but I bought myself a budget external webcam that gets the job done.

    Hey Dave! I think it would be super cool if you also have recorded noise alongside this thermal picture for different tasks. For example, noise level while just browsing, noise level while playing a non-heavy game, and the last one while playing some heavy game with highest playable settings.
    It would really help to understand what to expect in terms of noise.
    When I got 2020 G14 I was kinda disappointed, because it is unexpectedly very noisy in non-heavy games even with the lowest settings, that was not the case with my older laptop.

    I love my 2021 Zephyrus G14, but there are so many improvements (especially that screen!), that I may be tempted to upgrade, despite the fact that the 21 model was the first upgrade to a laptop that I've had in over 15 years. That said, I got it on sale when it was $1200. I hope this year's will be as reasonable. Having tech update this fast is actually a great problem to have!

    Those worried for the display heating up, Asus has designed rear exhaust vent heat sink in such a way that only a small volume flows out of it, most of the hot air is exhausted out of the side vents.
    Hey Dave, could you do a battery life & IGPU comparison between 2021 vs 2022 G14 for similar workloads. There's literally nothing else to compare between the 2.

Judging by the efficiency and performance, I am hoping an RX6600S 6/8GB will be released to beat the RTX 3050Ti 4GB, which is slower than a GTX 1660TI 6GB but still used as a GPU for thinner or budget devices.
