I am actually very glad that micro sd reader is included, I use it for 3D printer, raspberry pi and I think It is standart for action cameras.
Right? Plus every mSD I've ever bought comes with standard SD adapter so you can easily use them in standard SD devices.
@NinjaSkyborg and this is second review, which mentions microSD slot as "negative" thing (second one was some laptop review from JustJosh)
There is more flexibility offering a full size SD card slot or a USB-C port instead of a microSD card slot. He even mentions as such in the review at 6:04.
Come on, an extra USB-C port is far better as you can just plug in a dock or adapter for SD support and choose micro or full! That is the whole point, and on Intel machines a TB4 IO gives you so much more potential. If it had a full size one then I would think okay but still prefer a USB-C/TB4 but more useful than a micro.
and my DJI!
The feature of bending the screen up to 180 degrees is very good when you are going to use it on a large monitor and enjoy the laptop's own keyboard, this makes the laptop screen not getting in the way of the external monitor.
I think Asus should consider selling a variant without the discrete graphics for 1000$. The integrated gpu is plenty powerful for lightweight casual gaming and should make the laptop pretty appealing for non gamers and a general audience
With a bigger 🔋.
They wouldn't reduce the price that substantially.
What’s the point?
That's vivobook and zenbook

Why?
Thanks for the vid. Is it a good idea to turn off Turbo boost to reduce warm temps? any other tips to reduce warm temps and keep it cool? Thanks.
Nice review, are the fans audible on idle and load?
Good video. And also I’m looking for the black version and cannot find it can you make a link to it
Can you please review the Alienware X14? Excited to see how that stacks up, thanks.
Great review and comparison. Would you be able to compare the Asus Zephyrus G14, Razer Blade 14 and Alienware X14 (Similar configs of course) and show us the same CPU and Graphics wattage/temp results? It is getting much more difficult to know what to purchase especially when there are hidden factors to consider, that are essentially not listed on the websites. As you said, it isn't just about the hardware name and numbers listed.
Another would be for the 15 Inch variants of the same brands. Maybe others would be interested in the 17 inch versions as well. I am trying to go smaller. Keep up the good work.
3:45 You can show a board (PCB, like in: circuit design) place SMDs on it to visualize height, when rendering is not convenient. Also any other such projection with small-scale models (small buildings).
Is there any way to know if we will get it with the Anime matrix or no? On Best Buy reviews say that it doesn’t have it. So just curious
@11:12 - isn't the 22 turbo mode louder than 21's? Seems like all of the modes are the same or louder
Wish the G15 got proper upgrades like this. Good detailed review and comparison 👍
Can't believe they made the last years model even faster and lighter wow! This is the laptop for me.
btw you don't mention if you're using the CPU or the GPU in the Blender benchmark, which is kinda crucial. Also does the Radeon GPU and iGPU work with Blender 3's new HIP rendering?
Waiting for it to come to Canada ! Switching from my Alienware M15 R3 , can’t wait 😊
Already got an m16 (2021) on order but I’m still watching these ASUS reviews because this company does not miss! Already comparing for my next laptop. 😂
Cool feature about display rotating 180 degrees is that you can put it against the wall (vertically) so that the screen can be within the line of your sight. I've noticed that with my Omen 15, no laptop stand needed, it uses a fraction of space on my desktop and the heat is escaping easier.
yup i do that too! unfortunately i wasn't very smart about it and chipped the paint at the bottom -- but it got me great thermal results on the go
What's the point of putting it against the wall?
@@omereren7382 lifts the screen up so less neck strain, and saves space for external keyboard mouse
@@omereren7382 They literally included the reason in their comment...
Also I like it for the durability. Sometimes I'd stretch my laptop's hinge too much while forgetting it can only open up to a certain angle and can't do the 180.
Hello, im considering buying this laptop, but i have a little problem. I want to have the oportunity to connect it to my 4k 120hz tv and i need hdmi 2.1 for that. Can i get a usb-c to hdmi cable? Or is there another way to get 4k 120hz?
Loved this laptop but ultimately had to to return it as the sides get ULTRA hot right where your hands rest during gaming. You can see it in the thermal imaging at 15:03.
Could you do a video of this zephyrus g14 against the new razer blade 14 ? I think it could be interesting since they are now at a similar price tag
The noise levels shown at 10:56 are confusing. Turbo and Silent mode on the 2022 G14 look louder than the 2021 model, contrary to what you said. Was this an error?
That is weird. The raw noise doesn’t tell the whole story, as different frequencies sound different to humans. Maybe the newer model has a better noise equalization, even if the peak is higher. Or… maybe it was just a mistake, though you can see that the touchpad is definitely larger on the “2022” views.
No he said quieter than other gaming laptops , not this one
@@xruud24 you’re right. When he said “these laptops”, I thought he meant g14 models. It’s clear after listening again that he meant in comparison to gaming laptops in general.
I just got this G14 from best buy. Love it absolutely. I gave my previous G14 to my kid. They keyboard is still an absolute banger .
Is there ryzen 7 base variant. Please reply 🙏
How do you experience battery life? Is it any good? And you mentioned keyboard. Is it a good keyboard to type on?.
Temps? What about coil whine and loose trackpad?
@@smokingcat3267 probably my current fab laptop keyboard (outside of classic lenovo thinkpads)
@@fernpot Trackpad is good and large, mine isn't loose at all. If you are on batter, or usb-c power I have noticed a small whine, but when plugged in to the provided power supply and using GPU it isn't there.
No temps measurement for me yet sorry.
If it had the ryzen, nvidia combo (3070ti) this would have been day one purchase for me. Amazing laptop
Thank you for the thorough analyses and thoughtful opinions!
Thanks for another great review !
Interesting that you mention that the DAC on the 2022 edition is really good. I have the good ol 2020 version and the DAC is awful so I am glad that they addressed this. Good job ASUS.
Thanks for great and professional video. I really like it!
I have g14 2021 and I’m not gonna upgrade. Yeh the 2022 is amazing, and to be honest i find the screen of 2021 not good enough at all, but in performance area 2021 model is more then enough even for heavy loads and gaming from time to time.
I’ll wait for 2023 model to make a bigger leap from 2021 one.
Have you got your hands on the new G15/M16 and Duo 16 yet?
My laptop broke, and I need a new one for my school program that uses Tekla. I'm convinced to get it, but they seem to be available in the US, but not in Canada. Do you have any idea when they will be coming up north? I don't want to get a 2021 only to find out the 2022 comes out something like a week later.
wait for the 2022 model, it would not take more then a month to be available in your region.
Any ideas when this will be available in Canada?
You haven’t mentioned in the battery test if you were using the screen on 60 or 120 Hz? Great review though! Just wanted to know that specific information battery life
there isnt much difference, if at all, in battery life from going to 60 from 120 on g14. I've 2020 model and its on 120hz all day and tested battery drain in different refresh rate using hwinfo.
should i still get the 2021 version as the 2022 version is not gonnna be able to be available in my country for some time and i need a laptop??
Great video, but what about testing in games with "DLSS" and "RT"?
I've heard (and watched the video) when the 3060 is better than the 6070 !?
I hope you can get your hands on the zephyrus g15 and the m16. Please review these and compare them to each other and to the razer laptops PLEASE.
The full 180 degree is good if you are outdoors, I just found myself having the laptop to an extreme angle really so I think it is nice if you are using it on your lap or something and maybe protect it if it gets hit by mistake or while you are just waving your hands in the crazy like a crazy professor or something
i hope a "nuc like" SFF pc with a 6980HX and 6850M XT is made, mobile parts can be extremely useful in super compact PCs (less than 6 liters in volume).
Yeah
I got the G14 from 2021 when it came out and still to this day it rocks really! Had to of course purchase a hub for it, i.e. for DP + a few extra USB and Ethernet (RJ45) port but it was worth it. Games like BF2042 run smoothly still (I got the rtx3060 variant one with 5900)
is it still worth to buy for now? in my country the cheapest option is about 1100 USD. (Ryzen 7 5800H, 512 GB, RTX3060)
I would still like to know where we can get the 32GB RAM version with the AniMe matrix display. Is it just a halo "option" that is only given to UA-camrs?
No otherwise there wouldn’t be a price tag
When you going do review new legion gen 7 laptop?
What’s the best laptop for gaming and university/engineering?
When does this laptop release? I tried to search online.
Is the 16GB Ram on the base model at Best Buy 8 soldered and 8 replaceable? or 16 Soldered and nothing in the replaceable bay?
8 gb soldiered
Another great review. Unlike many other reviewers, I find your channel deliver your messages in a much more normal and clear pace. Others are informative, but maybe too much content that their pace is too fast for viewers to digest. Great job here.
Forgive me as I know so little about gaming but thought this would be good to start for me. I am also interested in the 4k aspect of video gaming as well as youtube 4k when availiable. This units price range seemed very reasonable for having 4k possibilities.
I'm confused. So we can't buy version with the customizable back??
Couldn’t you do 4K 120 from the 3.2 gen 2 type c port? I’m not super familiar with the ports capability’s.
I forgot to ask is the port 10gbps or 20 it seems like it’s 10 but the naming schemes of usb are terrible.
Thanks for that, but could you please also add Ray tracing comparisons? It will help us to choose between AMD and Nvidia laptops especially this year while they are very close performers.
The ray tracing comparison is 'don't bother with amd rn' :P If you care about ray tracing, amd's still not much good at it. Especially on laptops.
@@samal3196 yes you are right I guess I will keep up with nvidia for a while more..
that trackpad alone has me questioning my 2021 model, but i can’t quit on it this early
How is the ray tracing performance compared to last years 3060 model?
Could you compare it to the 14 inch macbook M1 pro?
Thank you for this good review.
I am planning to get 2021 model but only 5800HS 165O GPU. will it still be enough for light gaming and productivity? Thank you and continue to have great laptop reviews
Dont pay for 1650m at all, it is very very week ,not bottlenecked by anything in your computer and already outdated.
Check if you can get a ryzen4900hs+2060 or at least 1660ti(which is actually 2060perf. but without raytracing&dlss) Laptops with ryzen5000+radeon 6600m are also good budget options as they perform close to 3060m.
If ur determined to get a 1650m configuration you'd be better off getting a used flow x13 5900hs+1650m (last year's not the overpriced surfacedbook). It's much slimmer and literally same in performance. Screen size is also simular as flow has 16:10 ratio. (p.s. the flow's later updated model with 3050ti is 20-30% better than 1650)
G14's chasis is chunky for14'' but not worth for a 1650 which is used even in ultrabooks.
Tip) Get a sensible congiration where neither cpu/gpu is far from being bottlenecked, as that means one sidr's potential being wasted. Depending on price Zephyrus G15 is actually quite the same in weight and by once owning both I can say its both very portable.
don't buy 1650 model now, I would suggest to save more or wait for sale for the 6700s 2022 model, this year has got significant design upgrades which would help your purchase go long way. I own 2020 1650 model and it hasnt given me any issues in terms of performance but If I had to buy now, I would save up and wait for the 2022 6700s model. The iGPU of 2022 model is just a bit less powerful then 1650ti and the 6700s GPU is more powerful then 3060 mobile.
here's a hint. Ryzen's 680m internal GPU is as fast as discrete 1650. So just buy the cheapest G14 2022 model. You'll have a laptop that can game for 6-8 hours with iGPU only, and pull out big guns for other games. Hell, people can play Cyberpunk with ryzen's igpu these days.
@@pikachu5647I believe the men is on a budget, and 1699usd for 6700s wont be a better money/performance over the 4900/2060 or 4800/1660ti

For people wondering to upgrade from older G14 models:
If you have the 2020 model I think it's a solid upgrade as that first model was pretty bad. I bought it at best buy and returned it as it was pretty lacking.
I now have the 2021 model and I think it's an outstanding machine. They fixed all the issues from the 2020 model and it's price to performance now especially with this new model out is a really good buy. I've seen on best buy open box 2021 models go for $950 which is crazy seeing how well this laptop performs. The only downside of this compared to the 2022 model overall is aesthetics in my opinion.
I'm not saying the 2022 model doesn't outperform the previous generations but I don't think most people will be pushing this machine to it's limit everyday so that's a big factor to consider.
If your main concern is gaming and running applications that requires that then by all means get the 2022 model. I think for most people, the 2021 is a really good buy still. And if you have the money to upgrade I would do it. Hope this helps!
For gaming, I see a lot of comparison between the 2022 and 2021 version but without putting DLSS and RT into the equation. I am wondering if I should buy the 2021 version instead of the 2022 just to have a NVIDIA graphic card that will allow me to use DLSS and then a bit of RT? My idea would be to have the possibility to play some games on my TV and then use DLSS (when available) to help with the image quality.
Yeah I'm struggling whether to get this one the 2021. I honestly don't game but just want a GPU in case I pick it up again. I also travel a lot now so looking for great battery and portability. My legion 5 is heavy pile of shit.
I know this is a year old but would you get the 2021 for $800 before tax or the 2022 for $1,200 before tax?
@@Basstyle1 If money is not an issue I would get the 2022 model. I think I saw it on Best Buy the other day for $1000 but its usually on sale a lot
the only thing preventing me from buying this is i really want the model with the matrix lights but I can’t find one being sold.
Anyone know when those models will start being sold?
They were a while ago. 😉
I’m getting mine soon!
Ok this is the laptop to buy!! I was thinking of going 15 inch but travelling a fair bit now.
is the heat air bump up to the screen matter ?
Thanks for this amazing review. Just one question. Why cant I upgrade a best buy version to 40 GB of ram by adding a 32 card?
Pretty sure its because the best buy version available right now maxes out at 16 per slot, and there is only one available slot (8+16). There is another version with 32gb of ram which you might be able to put in a 32gb stick in the slot.
Would you guys compare this model with the 6700s model? id like so see if its worth the extra or not :D, Great vid btw !
Great review and and fantastic laptop!!
I like the larger screen rotation angle. I use a laptop riser with a mouse and keyboard if I'm traveling for a few days or more. The restricted angle reduces how high I can move the screen which effects the ergonomics. Thank you for the review!
everyone mentions the screen wobble. I was wondering does anyone have any probllems with it wobbling/shaking while gaming?

Is there any way to output 4k 120hz to an external monitor? I know the HDMI 2.0 wont be able to but is there other ways to achieve this?

The 3070ti and 3080ti are almost no better than 3070 and 3080
@@xruud24 how is that relevant to what they said? They simply were saying that in the comparison between the two G14s the 3060 should have been used with DLSS since most people who buy one would use that technology.
@@ucanthavemyname9802 I don’t care nvidia sucks and dlss is poo
That is exactly what I am looking for. When used, DLSS is a great improvement and for gaming I am really wondering if the 2021 could be better in some cases thanks to NVIDIA.
@@xruud24 Like it or not, Nvidia is currently making some of the best GPUs on the market. AMD is catching up, which is generating competition and that's great for the industry. Hopefully Intel will come into the picture soon with good products and drive even more innovation in the space.
I do agree that the ti models usually aren't worth the price bumps in the price/performance department but they're gonna keep at it until AMD and/or Intel can throw their weight around more effectively. I'll be curious to see what happens to Nvidia's product stack once the others catch up

I saw a open box one at me local Best Buy for $1050. Thinking about picking it up. What's your feedback on the laptop? I hear it runs super hot when you game, is that true?
@@psx1986 if that is the price they have for it jump on it. at first i was a bit frustrated because my version does not have the animation on the back. if your model only says moonlight white with nothing else, yours wont either. speakers are great and the screen is fantastic however, not out of the box. the software is a bit of a learning curve to learn. once you understand it the software is actually really nice to have. the screen as mentioned is amazing but you will want to calibrate the thing. asus has a terrible profile that it forces on you out of the box. the calibration tool they require is really expensive for purchase but you can rent one for much cheaper. i already had my spider x pro so for me, i need to go into the color management screen every start up so i can swap back to my color profile. other than that, the machine is amazing and worth it even at the 1200 dollar mark. the laptop does get really hot in stock configuration and there is no undervolt options besides the sliders in the custom overclock section. its sad that there are no frequency controls and the bios is very limited in that it really only is software controlled. you can set power targets and really control the temps though. on the integrated graphics i can play cyberpunk at 30 fps at reasonable visual settings 1080p just to give you an idea. i do have the 6800s model though. i hear the 6700s model performs about the same with a bit lower thermals. dont know how true it is but take into consideration the integrated 680m radeon graphics do perform reasonably well in gaming

The 6k Amd CPU's use DDR5 Ram Vs 5K DDR4. That alone is reason for a price difference. The advantage of the 6k version is a longer battery life span (more efficient), though as a gamer you might almost always be plugged in. I suppose that the gaming performance between the 5900 and the 6900 with a 6800gpu is similar, which means that gamers might be interested in the cheaper 2021 modell
I got the 6700s model from Best Buy last week and I have to say that it is pretty incredible. Its shredding elden ring at 1920x1200 at medium settings. Also just a joy to use for surfing and typing. The keyboard, trackpad, and screen are all a 10/10. Agree that the plug placement is trash but that's the only thing that holds it to a 4/5 vs a 5/5 for me.
