Stef, you have been through a lot. A friend of mine went through something similar. His best option for a time was just to fly with another pilot in the right seat. There are many people who have done that, perhaps due to illness, or general ageing. it's a great option for people who want to fly but are not able to hold the appropriate medical themselves to officially be the pilot in command. Don't be too hard on yourself. You have been through something very confronting. It didn't only bring your ability to fly into question. At times I am sure you felt more significant fears about life in general and what is possible . You have been an inspiration to us all for the way you have shown your fears and thoughts and allowed us to see someone else dealing with the things that many of would otherwise feel alone when dealing with them. Happy New Year! All the best for 2025!
WOW, I really appreciate the shout out Stef! Happy New Year and I hope you have a great 2025! I hope to see you back in the skies! (will call you out on any sulking 🫡) Tangent: Beau Miles is a great pick, his storytelling is next level ridiculous.
Stefan, you have great taste as already follow Beau Miles and flight formula. And I’m not a pilot or even an aviation geek - you’re just a great storyteller! Thanks for sharing your health journey & all the phases including wallowing & self pity were necessary and can’t be rushed. I know as I’ve been through one of my own in 2024 & starting from scratch with my fitness. Heres to a great 2025 of being back adventuring again.
Hiya Stef, I understand what you mean about saturation of flying videos, but I think there's something you sometimes miss about what is unique about your videos. You! You're the unique ingredient and for a lot of people it's you that we keep coming back for. Keep the videos coming, they're great
I literally look for new videos from his channel every time I open UA-cam. Not for the flying (although that was the reason I stumbled across his channel in the first place) but because of the person I learned he is (through watching his videos). His persona just represents a truly humble and kind person that you feel like if you ever meet them in person you’d have some amazing conversations. Haven’t finished this video yet so I hope he’s not stopping making videos…
Nothing but the best of wishes for you and your family Stef, thanks for the 2024 smiles and looking forward to riding passenger with you in your adventures of 2025.
Hey Stef that was me who bailed you up this morning, again very nice to meet you and wishing you all the best for 2025, I am sure you will go through ups and downs in your journey back to "normality" (whatever that is), you obviously have the right mindset. There will be more ups and downs along the way (hopefully in a plane) but you will get there when you are ready. Cheers!
You cant have a channel this successful with only hope / positivity / dreams / wins etc. Your channel encompasses the most crucial part of aviation. The human thats aviating. That means ups and downs. Its like learning and having set backs. Dont discount your experience- we tune in because its relateable. We arent all edit perfect, goal kicking pilots. If we want one sided only rose coloured glasses perspective, we will find it.
We had a family member go through a very similar brain surgery to yourself, just a few months before yours in 2023. Theirs didn't go anywhere near as well as yours, and while you may see some of your videos as whiny, I saw them as inspiration. In as many words, thank you for sharing and best wishes for 2025.
You needed the time to process and used the channel as part of that. And that's not a negative, people are WAY too focused on promoting a very curated picture to the world and need to be encouraged to also show the s***tty parts of life as well! I'm moving onwards myself from a rather ordinary 2024, and 2025 will be a big one with a change of location, training in a new facility and all the fun that brings. I hope to see you and EYZ up at the (I'm naming it in the format of the Opposing Bases Podcast) 'Twin Cities Delta' in 2025!
I dont think you have been wallowing in self pity.(at least not publicly/in your videos) .You have been emotional and honest and all of those emotions are perfectly understandable in the circumstances.I really think you have handled it well.Very positively. So do not apologise.Get flying again, get on with your life and GET FLYING... Good Luck.
Happy new year and all the best for 2025 Stefan. I look forward to seeing you up in the skies with EYZ again. I commented on the same video from last year as I had just begun my flight training in Melbourne, I now have a PPL and have loved every second of it. Thank you so much for all the motivation, and all the best to you and your family.
Thanks, Stef, for sharing your flying adventures and your story of recovery after your tumour operation. Continue to stay positive and you have a strong possibility of reinstating your medical clearance to again be able to fly as pilot in command. I did a fair amount of that as an URPPL in the 1980s and 1990s, completing many outback Australia flights and numerous trips to King Island, Tasmania and Flinders Island. Best wishes for a Happy and healthy 2025 for you and your family. I wait to see you returning to the left seat of EYZ as pilot in command in the not too distant future.
Happy New Year Stef! 🎉 Looking forward to an awesome 2025 full of more Aussie (and international) but definitly more Aussie aviation content and experiences 😁✈️
I got bit hard by the aviation bug just over a year ago. It was so bad I bought a plane before I even passed my medical (which I ended up having an issue with). I found you early on and have been enjoying your content ever since. I can't wait to see you fly again. I finally passed my checkride in October of 2024 and it has been the best thing ever. My only regret is that I'm older now and wish I had jumped in sooner. Thanks for all of your wonderful videos. I'm glad to see you doing well!
Small steps. Before you know it , It will happen. Your health is number one, without that everything else is meaningless . Once you are up In the clouds and blue sky’s it will come together. Take a big breath Stefan, and we will see you in 2025. Wishing you and the Misses an awesome 2025 🙏👍🛬
Stefan - Dude, I love the content. From one low key content creator to another, just keep doing you! If you enjoy making your videos then just keep going! If you find yourself in the UK… let’s go flying.. maybe you can give gliding a go over here with me.
I wouldn't be apologising about what you perceive as sulking. As a cancer guy for +20 years with multiple types of tumours (they can't tell me why) I feel it's a journey and as long as you are doing your best at the time, it's all good IMHO. Having said that, I also think it's healthy to admit to those you trust when you're not doing so well. We are not robots. Take care mate, looking fwd to your 2025.
I hope your recovery is fulfilled and that you have a pleasant New Year. For sure Aviation on UA-cam has become about the incidents, accidents, and problems rather than people showcasing their journeys and why. Strangely I've been trying for the last few years to share this and share why we do this with the added benefit of an instrument rating in a Diamond DA40. Some good tips and hints you've come up with and I look forward to making better content in 2025. HNY!
Happy New Year to you too. Thanks for leaving this comment, now I have another aviation channel to watch this year - about to sit down and watch your flight from Luxembourg. Keep posting the great content and enjoy your flying.
@@StefanDrury Thanks, Stefan! I hope the year ahead for aviation is prosperous. Thank you for watching; I hope you enjoyed it. Check out my Amsterdam in IFR one; you'll love that too! Safe flying.
Thanks for an amazing yeah Stefan. I wish you all the best for 2025. I’m surprised you didn’t mention Kurt, Tim and Matt from SYDSQUAD. Along with you, they got me excited about the aviation industry.
you achieved a great deal to get to fly and sometimes you gotta vent. But glad you don't ever give up :) and hope to see you up there. I want to get my RPL and trying to save up for it.
Happy New Year Stefan, you have to be the nicest UA-camr in aviation. Thank you so much for letting us in on your stories and here's to an amazing 2025. All the very best.
Stef, your videos are amazing to me and many others. You have pushed me personally to want to pursue a career in aviation and want to thank you for your content, energy and time that you put into it, it's a honor to watch the videos. Thank you for 2024 and the past and the future videos to come ! -Addisen
Always love watching your videos, Stef! You know we're all rooting for you to get your medical back so you can start flying EYZ by yourself again. It will happen. Happy holidays!
Hey Stefan, Don't ever give up, I pray that you will continue to persevere in being able to fly your plane again. I miss seeing your stuff animal cow "MILK SHAKE" Have a blessed happy new year! God Bless
Stef, Have loved your videos from day 1 and they certainly helped me in becoming a better pilot with relatively low hours. Loving the positivity and wishing you all the luck for March . Be great to see you in the left seat solo again. All the best from a cold, wet and windy UK. (Yes that means no flying :( )
HELLO from CYQT ✌🇨🇦👍 Stef, Ive watched your vidos for a few years now. LOVE your content, your'e a great story teller. I've NEVER felt you were feeling sorry for yourself. Great mindset going into 2025! Glad to see you doing well. Can't wait to see you getting back in the cockpit working on your proficiency for the day you get your medical back and you're up there solo again. Maybe it happens in the spring, maybe a year from now.
It's like the old saying "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"....you will go on to do great things, to inspire people to maybe take on a career in flying so in life after you pass away ask yourself this "What legacy have I left?"...
Thanks for the recommendation, it brought us quite a few new subscribers 🤗 Looked into your videos and found we have a common friend, Michal Smith. We visited him when we were in Melbourne. Such a nice person!
Hello! Really great to hear from you. I've loved watching your trip, glad I could share your adventure with our aviation community here. Yes Michael is a good friend, glad you got to spend time with him too. Enjoy your flying, I look forward to your next adventure.

But after that it became very open n shut and I have held my medical the last 5 years now Get it done. Hope to see you in the air again when I’m doing my thing
hi Stef, greetings from Luxembourg and second, best wishes for 2025. Continue your beautiful aviation channel despite some life turbulences. Reduce speed and flight higher that my advice for me and could be also for you.
Speedtapefilms is a great channel for story telling, albeit not GA but jet ferry flights. The way its narrated and put together is simple but its to the point and intrresting. 👍🏻 i like your new outlook, looking forward to see you flying PIC again!
So, a pom says he's going to stop whinging 🤣🤣. Followed since the early days and love the content. Will be rooting for you in march when you get your medical back and start the path back to proficiency 😊
I’m with you as 2024 was a recovery year I had my left foot amputated in August. Now I need a hip replacement! I am hoping to get a medical by the end of the year as well to continue flying ga! I have flown in a RAAUS foxbat that has hand rudder but hopefully back in a pa28 or c172! Hope you are doing well?
Beau Miles has been fantastic. A UA-camr I watch religiously, is Itchy Boots. She has travelled throughout the world on her motorbike and is one of the best. I also enjoy watching people sailing the world. I enjoy good content that takes my mind off the more mundane things in life (such as being my dad's carer) and planning on what I want to do next. If ever I am down, I remind myself that everything I go through is basically just a first world problem... I think of all the kids suffering through brutal wars and all their suffering. Whatever my problems are, are nothing compared to them.
Ok, I have subscribed again. Re: I understand so well the journey of losing your medical and having your dream put on hold. Then I saw a pilot who lost a leg in an accident. He went through 3 years of rehab and prosthetics and got his medical back and is flying. You NEEDED to go through your wallowing and self pity. As pilots do, we all have a moment when we can't fly, because in our view, what else is there? So you took your time and you climbed the hill, reached the top and you are looking at all the new possibilities in store. Take them! Get your medical back, you can! Now go on, clear prop!
Hi Stefan. Good wrap for 2024. Alas The OLDFLIERSGROUP, an authentic Australian aviation channel didn't make your list. With 37 million impressions of historical aviation content, we welcome more recognition.
Will just follow your energy and what a great attitude for 2025. 2024 has been a crap year for many and yes so far we are upright. Look forward to seeing more of your adventures next year when you pass your medical in March. And ha ha you must meet Baeu he is in my local and his dad is my mate. Also a big creative town with my son and @jazza working full time in an amazing studio here. Also you have found Flight Formula who I have been subscribed to and think he is like you an incredible content creator and his humour I get! Anyway have a fabulous NYE 🎆🎆🎉🕺🛫 Cheers John

So glad you’re on the mend Stefan. Best wishes.
Stefan, an example of POV aviation creator is 74 Gear. His latest blog “missiles divert my flight in Middle East”.
I’ll check it out, thanks for the tip.
Stefan, you are an inspiration as a pilot and a person. Your videos are so genuine and enjoyable. I'm looking forward to 2025 and more of your videos!
Looking forward to your next videos Stefan!

Yup, definitely agree with your views on the future of aviation YT channels. Have a happy and healthy 2025 Stef, back in the left seat!

What a great video! I agree that you've been wingy, and I always thought you were entitled to it... and now something new. Cool.
Have a wonderful New Year Stef, can't wait to see you in the skies. Whether it's with someone else or by yourself.

Great mindset going into 2025! Glad to see you doing well. Can't wait to see you getting back in the cockpit working on your proficiency for the day you get your medical back and you're up there solo again. Maybe it happens in the spring, maybe a year from now.
Love your videos, inspiring me to start flying myself in 2025. Also love flight formula! One of the great up and comers
It's like the old saying "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"....you will go on to do great things, to inspire people to maybe take on a career in flying so in life after you pass away ask yourself this "What legacy have I left?"...
The channel recommendations are much appreciated.
Tears of joy to hear hope
I’ve always preferred to watch a video flying somewhere for a reason. Will be good to have Stef back in 2025!
Thanks for the recommendation, it brought us quite a few new subscribers 🤗
Looked into your videos and found we have a common friend, Michal Smith.
Your best video yet. Well done. You've transitioned from a victim to a survivor.

hi Stef, greetings from Luxembourg and second, best wishes for 2025. Continue your beautiful aviation channel despite some life turbulences. Reduce speed and flight higher that my advice for me and could be also for you.
Happy New Year Stef! I look forward to your videos and you getting back as pilot in command.
Great video, thanks Stefan 🐙
I flew gliders as a kid (17-18) with the Australian Navy, its true flying and I think you would really enjoy doing that as well.
Speedtapefilms is a great channel for story telling, albeit not GA but jet ferry flights. The way its narrated and put together is simple but its to the point and intrresting. 👍🏻 i like your new outlook, looking forward to see you flying PIC again!

Happy 2025 Stef. Great story as always and looking forward to your future content. No more sulking!
I'm glad you said it, I wanted to say it, but I didn't, good for you. Hope 2025 is a great year🎉 for you and your family
Great video Stef with an important and positive message about hope and the like. All the very best for 2025 to you and the family!
Share more experiences - got it! Thank you for the fantastic content and excellent advice. Great ideas for where I’ll take my own new channel.
Thanks for the video Stef, happy new year!
Best of luck in 2025. Go for it!

As pilots do, we all have a moment when we can't fly, because in our view, what else is there? So you took your time and you climbed the hill, reached the top and you are looking at all the new possibilities in store. Take them! Get your medical back, you can! Now go on, clear prop!
Stef, you get a hug! 😊
Hi Stefan. Good wrap for 2024. Alas The OLDFLIERSGROUP, an authentic Australian aviation channel didn't make your list. With 37 million impressions of historical aviation content, we welcome more recognition.
