This definitely grabbed me on kickstarter when glancing through today (the dial reminded me a lot of the Citizen NB1060-12L I've had my eye on) and really great the creator allowed you to get your hands on the watch and it's always helpful to get more insight. I believe the momentum factory Orii is the name of the company they have collaborated with and the text case seems to be he same as on their website but yeah I'm not sold on it and I'd probably skip the date window however I don't find it offensive.

Came here via the instagram of the brand itself after backing it on KS for the gold leaf dial, really liked the case design and dial. Great review!

Totally agree with you about the words "Momentum factory/ Orii". That's a head scratcher. Also, agree with you about the date. It's where I like it, at the 6 position, but I feel any date window on this dial interferes too much with the lovely pattern, and overall "mood" of the watch. Good review as always!

Thank you Esbjorn for reviewing the watch. The "words" on the dial are out of respect for the factory and are not necessary. But I see that so many people have some opinions on this. My final product will probably be changed to only use the word "Automatic".

@@AISION_DESIGN I like the sentiment. No one ever acknowledges the people who actually made the watch, and they should get more recognition. Perhaps it's something that could fit on the caseback edge? If you put the WR on the dial; there might be room on the back. Or better yet, make it a closed caseback. You'll have plenty of room then to come up with a design that properly honors the workers. That would be way more special than an open caseback. Once you've seen one automatic movement, you've seen them all until you reach about $6k.
      Just a thought..
Very good looking watch by the way. You can tell that this has been a labor of love.

Since the final version will get a nice custom rotor, I would like to keep the open caseback. I prefer "Orii" instead of "Automatic" or the water resistance on the dial. It is a short word that would not overcrowd the beautiful dials, but still acknoledge the manufacturer.

@@juliandornbusch3710thank you for your support. You are right, I would also like the Orii wording to remain on the dial. This is based on respect for them.🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️

Great (and weirdly only) review of this. I wish you were sent the LE Gold Leaf to review. I found out a bit late and missed out on the Kickstarter slots for that model now all gone, but fingers crossed one will open back up!! Thanks for the review!

I like the overall design. As mentioned the 3 words at the lower part of the dial don't quite work but I feel something needs to be there for balance, a simple font or title case change might help.

Thank you very much for the great review! I have been looking forward to this.
Would you be so kind to say a little bit more about the haptics and quality feel of the bracelet?
Maybe other watches (or typical price ranges) it might compare to?
    Thank you in advance! 🙃

Thank you for watching! I feel it's a little unfair to give a final recommendation on a prototype but the bracelet and its clasp is very solid, easy to close and elegantly finished. It's a tiny bit sharp underneath but not at all to the point where it would scratch or be uncomfortable. I don't love scissor clasps myself but it makes sense on this design. Probably the only thing missing, as is always the case with these types of bracelets, is more micro adjusts (as mentioned).

@AISION_DESIGN, was Esbjörn's bracelet already a production version or might that tiny sharpness be gone on a final part?

Aision has managed to evolve their design very well over several watches. While the mop piqued my interest, this really made me stop and look closer. That's great work. The broad and muscular chamfers on the bracelet actually remind me of the brutalist Toledano & Chan B1. Sure, this is still a bit toolish (I was also reminded of the Former Reef with the hands for example) rather than jewel-like, but the chiseled adornments on both bracelet and case really work. Of course, we all appreciate the VC reference, but in my opinion I'd welcome a few more interesting sculptural takes on the bezel. Even flutes bezels seem relatively rare. The funny thing is, that other than that a materialist approach narrows very well on the dial, it is actually less of a talking point in this watch. It just carries the concept through, so it is very coherent. I also could do without the date, but I don't mind it as much. There is a correspondence between it and the lume filled markers. I do really mind the three lines of needless text and the mixing of cases. The font isn't a good complement, so the text really just spoils the enjoyment of the dial and tapering down, it emphasises the date which would best remain underemphasized. I think the best course of action here would be to lose the text altogether. But I don't hold my hopes up. Besides this unfortunate blemish, the watch really exerts a certain attraction. It's a good design. If executed as refined as it should be, it's tempting, though I'm not sure it is something that really suits me.

Eloquent as usual! I always appreciate your point of view. I think this is a brand to watch from now on and others agree, over 400% backing so far on KS 🙂

@@EsbjornWristwatchReviews that also means many others potentially don't feel so strongly about the printing. For me details like that are really hard to unsee and it is a problem when I should decide to go for it, as on the wrist that detail is likely to occupy ever more of my brain. Consider me very intrigued by this one. I also especially like the touch of warmth the gold leaf brings here, and perhaps it is one of the few times I wish there were more dial options, just because I'm curious (not unlike with the patinated series from Selten, but this is closer to an execution I appreciate overall).

@@AISION_DESIGN yes, I do het the show of respect and pride in using the name of the factory collaborating. I think the design is strong enough not to have text. After all, putting automatic there is not exactly useful either. You might also consider to only put Orii, to maintain the original idea and to play with fonts, sizes and type case. You could also consider if it isn't possible to put the factory in the extreme margins between the indices. This is much less invasive of the dial, though of course it would be a lot smaller.

The text at the bottom looks like it should be a what 3 words location. Seems completely random. Hope they just stick with the traditional water resistance, brand name or automatic. Otherwise its a pretty cool watch.

The dial (or at least the paintwork on it) is produced in Japan which is already amazing. If this watch was fully made in Japan with it's design and specs, you're looking at easily over $1k. Also similar to the Swiss, most 'Made in Japan' watches, will actually have many of their parts made in China before being assembled in Japan.
