I watched this review because the title was negative. Now that I've bought this TV, I think this is a funny review. This model TV is wonderful for my use. It is going in a well lit room, so the contrast range is perfectly fine. In a dim room, the blacks might be not perfectly black. It will only be used for streaming, so the 60hz refresh rate is perfectly fine. The colors are brilliant and natural at the same time and it is SO sharp that it's AMAZING! The Sony quality and reputation for dependability along with my personal history with the brand is a major reason I chose this also. I could have spent $4,000 more and not be happier.

Have had this S30 in 65” for 3 weeks now. Got it on sale at Costco for $768. I’m picky and it hasn’t missed a beat. For 95% of tv watchers, this set will more than suffice. It’s a Sony, so you know it’s built well. That’s something.
Local dimming, 120Hz, for most people doesn’t amount to a hill of beans. This set offers superb color, brightness and clarity. That’s all that really matters to most people.

You're absolutely correct, that's why customer reviews are far more important for these types of products than professional reviews. Professional reviews tend to focus on the nitty-gritty and the very fine points, 85% of which truly don't apply to most general television users. It would be like a car magazine reviewing an economy car and complaining that it doesn't have 800 horsepower like their favorite Maserati that they own, sure but for most people getting to work and going to the grocery store they don't need 800 horsepower to do it.

Dude I have an X90J and I'm still blown away by how good my PS5 looks on it. But now my mom wants a new TV and so I was looking into this. Does the Bravia 3 make normal HDTV look good? My mom watches a lot of tennis. Do you think that would still be kinda upscaled like most Sony TVs do?

Read that review and the same suggestion to spend a bit more. Keep going up and up. Basically, in 2024 just buy an OLED. Same for every year in the last decade.

I'm an electronics technician and without getting too technical Bravia 3's use grade A top tier capacitors on the PCB's. Top tier means the highest quality. So the TV's are built to last. Brands like TCL and HIsense use bottom tier grade Z capacitors thats why they always fail in a few years. The previous Sony I owned lasted 12 years before the panel wore out

With a contrast of 80 000 to 1, opposed to 1 864 to 1, they are in absolutely completely different leagues that way. I would rather 5 years with local dimming and not washed than 10 with washed old tech made better. Guess if one is looking for any tv and just wants 10 plus years its fine. If you paying for internet, cable and or a few subscriptions are you really going to super cheap out on the device that displays it? The b3 over 10 years is about 10 a month. Going to a better tv lasting 5 years is 20 a month over 10 years and get a new much better tv upgrade after 5 years. And it might last 10 so actually a bonus! Anyways that 10 more a month averaging 5 years for a hisense and get an even better new tv after 5...for the price of 4 cups of coffee a month. Pretty sure in 5 years the new hisense will completely blow away any old non dimming tech.

I'm currently in the market for another 43" for our bedroom because I decided to try a hisense and the panel is failing after 3 yrs. I've also had random issues because of the lack of built in ram.
I was considering a TCL but read that they only have a short life as well. I've never had a sony fail; only upgraded my sony's for new tech and sold the old ones or gave them away.

So essentially it is an updated X80K. I have a 43" X80J, and the K was a bit nicer than it, but not world changing. I would not purchase this TV at full price, but on sale it would be worth it to me for one reason and one reason only, Sony's excelling image processing. I watch a ton of older content, and it just looks better on the Sony TV. That is worth it to me.
I generally use external streaming boxes, but if the built in GoogleTV OS is important to you I can promise it is head and shoulders above the offerings from TCL or Hisense (even the higher tier models from those brands). TCL and Hisense have issues with their built in GoogleTV OS.

So there so many --BETTER TV out there, if NOT mini LED. There QLED -Hisense QD7N (QLED) same technology as Sony A90L but QD7N has Less Blooming n less pestle color. Bravia 3 is like TCL Hisense entry Roku technology but 2X price, n more matted. And its --ips pane ( ADS-PRO is best, then VA, then Ips. ). So its not good investment of money in 2024.

@@Yoga_Tv_buying I have. Up until about two month ago I was working at a BBY on the weekends selling TVs. I was able to play with them far more than most people are able to before purchasing. And yes, the contrast ratio on Hisense U8N and TCL QM8 is better than the Bravia 3. Even dropping down a couple of tiers in both brands will net you a TV with better contrast. If I was going for a budget home theater setup for movies I would pick them over the Bravia 3.
However, for what I watch and the conditions I watch in the Sony is a better pick due to upscaling performance and the ability to clean up lower quality streams.
Don't get me wrong, I have multiple TV brands represented in my house. In our living room we have an Amazon Fire Omni TV because all that gets watched there is news and soap Operas by my grandmother. In our game room we have a TCL Q6 because of its 1080p gaming capabilities and budget price. Our Den where I watch most television has a Sony X90L as I wasn't willing to spend more than that, but it performs better than the TCL or Hisense options from the same model year. In my bedroom I have a Sony X80J because I was happy with the processing at the price.
I dislike watching TV on the TCL. Even though on paper it is a better TV than my X80J, the X80J gives me a clearer picture and better color. Contrast is not as good, but I can forgive that for a sharper picture.
The moral of the story here is that TVs are even more like cars than people want to give them credit for.

People that buy this TV will be feeding it cable or maybe just non 4k streaming. Upscaling is a big deal. it is the number one feature of the TV. its better than ALL those others. The tv is on sale for $899 at 75". Color accuracy is also a thing. people that buy TVs in this price range will never get it calibrated, they will might not even take it out of its stand picture mode. You are not going to get that upscaling and color accuracy from cheapo brands like TCL and hisense.
rtings just hates sony and rates ALL their TVs poorly when all other channels are saying just the opposite. Don't use Rtings if you are looking for an unbiased review of Sony products.

    • @Bisaju2

I feel there is nuance in the reasons people buy certain models over others. And it looks fine to good in the store displays. No not as showy as more expensive models and sonys accuracy and upscaling is a huge selling point to me Better than most of those 200 dollar Walmart tvs for sure. Also some people need a 50 inch or 43 inch and i mean need for space limitations and oleds are pricey or some people dont have the enviroment. And alot of those local dimming tvs start at 55. But if they have an option for an x85k or slightly higher they should get those probably. I got a 50 inch x85k. I am very happy. But when im in the market for a bigger tv it will turn into a bedroom tv.

Alot of the high performing tcls and hisenses are past 50 inches at smallest. So yeah i was limiyed on space. And maybe i didnt want a tcl or hisense and like sonys accuracy. Its not like the x85k is my last tv ever just the one i needed at the moment. Glad i didnt get a cheap walmart tv. I do like it. And happy to see it is better than the bravia 3. So yeah at best buy i see the x85k next to the bravia 3 and if the person wants or insist on a sony pay the extra 100. bucks.

tv's tend to crap out 4-8 years so I'm fine with this budget purchase. $950 over 8 years is a bargain, even if it craps out in 4 years no harm done for a $950 tv vs 2k+ tv, besides actual customer reviews rated this very very high and that's what matters most. 😉

@@Steve-mp7by The contrast on this Sony is junk. If you like your blacks to look light gray, then this Sony is for you. I'd rather buy 2 mid-level TCL's over the lifetime of one of these overpriced Bravia 3's if it meant getting substantially better picture quality with way more features. Sony couldn't even do 4k/120hz or VRR properly until what, last year? Sony TV's have definitely had hardware & software deficiencies of their own.

'Budget Sony' is a bit of an oxymoron since one typically chooses Sony when money isn't mostly an issue and want the best picture quality and processing. There are other much better options for this price range to middle tier
