I liked the fact that you showed making mistakes on camera. It makes it real for us regular Joe's. As my dad used to tell me, "When all else fails, read the instructions".
Seeing all the missteps just saved me the installation fee, as I ordered an opener while watching, and I saw that even with a few mistakes, it's still pretty simple. DIY is doable and following the instructions is good too. Would've liked to see how you adjusted the door at the end. Thanks for the tutorial!
Shane, I always like your videos - particularly the time and attention you take . It's inspiring, oddly enough, when things don't go according to plan. For folks like me it makes you feel like we're not alone . Great video . Thank you very much.
How remarkable is this! I actually planned to replace my old chain drive with a new belt opener today! Amazing! I'm going to bring my laptop out to the garage, so you can help me.
My new opener install was similar to this where the new opener was about a foot short of the old brackets hanging from the finished garage ceiling. I saw how you extended the bracing on your opener unit then the diagonal bracing to help pick up the weight. Thanks!!!! That idea helped me out.
Seriously - if you don't make the mistakes, people just watch it and become complacent. I appreciate showing the whole thing (if for no other reason than I don't feel so bad when I make my mistakes if Shannon goes through the same trials)!
Shannon, I watch your videos regularly. It was good to see your bloopers because your other videos are done with no errors and that is intimidating to us when we make them. Great video. I have to install a garage door opener this week.
Thank you so much for making this video. The pandemic is killing me financially. My chain opener failed and you have given me the confidence to install a belt opener.
Thank you, Shannon. The video is very helpful and I appreciated that you had to make some adjustments, which I will be encouraged when I have to make adjustments of my own.
The explanation is very clear, so if my brother has to change his garage door opener, i'll send him the video and he will be very happy and will be very helpful for him !!! thanks for sharing !
No matter the professional/profession....Things do go wrong in any field. I'm glad you didn't edit out the wrongs. It's show what can go wrong on a job. Learning from others mistakes... helps not make your own.
Good videos and I appreciate the mistakes. I’ll keep an extra eye out for what I’m doing. I would mention; it pays to ensure the safety features are working on the new garage door opener.
I bought a similar door opener. I’m glad I’m not the only one who had to undo things after assembling. Unless you install these often, it can be tricky. I bought the 1.25 hp by the same company. I love it. This one comes with a feature that automatically closes the door after 10 minutes if I forget to close it. That in itself is worth lots to me. Thanks for the video Shannon.
BTW... I got the garage door up. Now I remember why I didn't do it sooner. No manual. Thanks to Shannon, I opened the box and knew exactly what everything was. Thank you so much for the video! Since I'm pretty sure I can't get you to marry me, so I'll have to resort to a Patreon pledge!
A decent garage door insulation the few recommendations I recommend is on both garage door opener’s fix the emergency release it is not tied off correctly you supposed to use all of the rope you supposed to put two small knots one at the end of the rope in the other on the other end of the rope and with the belt drive opener I recommend seeing if the door is on balance because the belt has way too much slack in it or if the belt was just installed incorrectly so let me know if you get that checked out
Having made SO many mistakes myself, I saw the bracket location problem the moment you picked up the new motor assembly and pushed the fancy sawhorse back.
Good explanation of how is is done, the removal and installation. I suggest a n angle bracket at the ceiling since the moto is cantilevered and it's mass is creating an angular static force forward. I just didn't understand why the motor end of the opener is removed before the end on the wall.. Having to lower the motor with the wall end still connected might not be possible if it is attached close to the spring. Why not unhook it and let it rest on the spring while the motor end id detached. Everyone seems to detach the motor first but why?
So once you set the tension by releasing that silver washer, that's about it for removing the belt? Seems like it would be tricky compressing that spring again and resetting the silver washer.
Very easy, hold the middle button till a beep is heard. Then press the up arrow button until the desired open position is reached. You can adjust up or down with the arrows as necessary. Then press the center rectangle button, it will beep. Then repeat for the closed position. After you finish the up arrow will flash, just press it once and the door will open, then the down arrow will flash, this will close the door and complete the limit/ force setup.
I thought this video would be helpful. However in installing our own garage door we ran into the problem of the belt bar being shorter than our old. Made adjustments/support that looks exactly like his and it sways like crazy. Would never feel comfortable parking my car underneath that,m. After a lot of tinkering and tests, decided we would have to move the hook up into the ceiling which required hiring a pro. Costs of time in this experiment about $1200 (12 hours $100). Not Shane’s fault. Just doesn’t work and wanted people to be aware before the waste so much time.
You must have the right length bar for the door size you have, manufactures sell parts to add to the length . Standard size is 7' doors anything over that needs a extension
Don't think you tightened the belt enough, also how is side movement of the motor? I noticed you used a extension cord for the motor, big red flag in the directions.
No one ever addresses for me the worst part of garage opener install….cutting the angle brackets! Not everyone has metal cutting tools at there disposal!!
I liked the fact that you showed making mistakes on camera. It makes it real for us regular Joe's. As my dad used to tell me, "When all else fails, read the instructions".
100% agreed. What NOT to do is also valuable info!

Good to see the issues as you go along. That way we will know when it’s time to go through that step.

Your google is listening your conversations. Those ads and video suggestions are based on that.
@@muzairanwar Shut up?
I enjoyed a real install with all the hiccups that can happen. Makes it much more realistic. Thanks.
When you show the video with mistakes and problems, it makes your videos honest and most informative. Great job

I love watching your videos. You are one of the few people that can admit Man I made a mistake. Very humble and videos are well executed
I appreciate that!

Terrific video with good detailed commentary, excellent video quality and pacing. Many DIY videos tend to gloss over the details. Thank you.

Seriously Great video helped me make sure I avoid the newbie mistakes with these belt drive door openers
Excellent video to share the installation/removal experience including those "errors". It's so valuable to my new installation.
Thank you for areal life example of the install of a garage door opener. Good job you make it a true experience

I really like your work as you’re making mistakes to install so new people will understand better.
Very informative video and instructions.
Thank you for another great video!!
Great video as usual. Nice to see you again.
Nice video. I'm about to do this job myself. Liftmaster swap out for Chamberlain. I'll probably cuss more than you did.
Thank you Shane!

They aren't "mistakes" unless they exist when you throw the switch. They're "adjustments" until then.

Thank you for your experience, expertise and time, sharing with us!
Great job.

Most times it will pivot down without issue
Great video thanks!
The wind is hawlin.
I was allowing you 2 mistakes but you ran over...LOL Actually very nice job in showing how to do this!
Thank you
what is a good power generator to buy
it looks like a 1/2 horsepower Whisper drive motor....what model is it?
So, you needed a longer belt for the bigger door??
So once you set the tension by releasing that silver washer, that's about it for removing the belt? Seems like it would be tricky compressing that spring again and resetting the silver washer.
Noise? Not much difference. You should hear my 50 year old chain drive Overhead Door brand. Nice video.
superb 💙
Besides the belt drive being a little bit loose with the belt the emergency release rope is tied off wrong where the handle is
Do you know the brand that you’re covering up a chamberlain right
I dont rememeber off hand but Chamberlain makes many lines of openers under other names so it likely was.
About how much would one charge for labor in US dollars, to do this?
Chamberlain garage door opener
I was hoping to see how you adjust the travel limits on that thing, why did you skip that part?

Belt is a bit to loose. Otherwise fantastic video
You show the craftsman logo but not the chamberlain logo?
Not sponsored by either one.
No one ever addresses for me the worst part of garage opener install….cutting the angle brackets! Not everyone has metal cutting tools at there disposal!!
Why do you cover the Chamberlain logo
not sponsored by them
Ok
What's with the tape over the manufacturer's name?
Wilhelm Taylor he said it’s because he’s not sponsored by them. It’s a chamberlain opener by the way
Why do you cover the brand of opener I know it is a chamberlain
LOL. actually its labeled a craftsman from Sears but they are made by the same manufacturer
Didn't it come with instructions?
It didn’t seem to be that much quite
TL;DW
OK
