Very nice video. This idea that Moras were somehow lesser knives because they were inexpensive was very prevalent also here in Sweden too. They were absolutely everywhere (still are) and because of how common they were they were looked down on. That’s pretty normal human behaviour - the more rare something is, the more valuable it must be, and the more special that person must be that has that rare special knife. I think this perception of the Mora brand still plagues them. Just like any other boy in countryside Sweden, Mora was my first knife. The one with a red plastic handle and carbon blade, I think 511, in 1990 when I was 8 years old. Me and my brother would lose them or wear them out. My favourite as a child was the no 1. My brother nearly chopped his finger off with a no 2. We whittled everything in sight like little human beavers haha (Which is why we much preferred the classic Moras, fingerguards suck for whittling). We can’t even get away from them in the army. The Mora 2000 is the standard issue knife lol I’ve bought and sold a lot of expensive knives as an adult but around ten years ago I sold everything except my Mora knives. I think they are the best knives at any price. Just the best knives period. Part of that is the design, usability, performance and light weight. But a factor is also that of never being worried about using or losing them. Not getting strange looks from friends like I would when I pulled out a 250$ Bark River. That thing of just using a knife is key, because it all becomes about skill and ability and not about the knife. This is the wonderful lesson taught by the Mora knife: it is all about the person using it. Just like with a good pencil, the tool just vanishes into invisibility, so simple, so ubiquitous and so common, just like a school pencil that it almost doesn’t exist. But if the pencil is held by a poet or an artist, nobody would ever care what pencil they used. The pencil is gone. That’s the Mora, the invisible knife - therefore the perfect knife.

I use a number 1 as my knife,, I also have a number 2 with a old school leather sheath set up as a neck knife. Love Morakniv products! Thanks for sharing my friend 🤠
My first memories of Mora are from my childhood home, from my fathers garage, where he always had a few of them laying around for whatever use he could need a cheap blade for. Most of the time they were the authentic Moras, sometimes chinese copies that were even cheaper than what Moras used to be... Being a bit of a knife collector and an active outdoorsman, I own several Moras myself too. They are hardly the gem of anyones collection but all in all I think they have hit a sweet spot when it comes to an affordable, available all around knife that you actually use. Can't go wrong with a Mora 👍

Yeah, the funny thing is that on top of my own knife bying also everybody knows in my village (Fiskars) that Im a knife lover, so I do get all sorts of knives as gifts etc. Cant avoid of having a growing collection😂. Thanx for watching and thanx for the sub!

I bought a 5 euro leather sheath for an old Mora classic. They are really nice knives for what you pay. I like the design of the plastic sheath, it looks quite elegant, doesn't hold the knife very well though, which sucks. Interesting about the Helsinki gangster reputation. The sticky out bit at the base of the handle is generally called a birds beak in English, or a fauns foot if its on an axe by the way. Nice to see a real Finnish perspective on these knives.
Yeah, it really is great for the money. I see a looot of use for this immidiately the blade geometry is awesome. And the handle is as good as I remembered. Just the sheath needs an upgrade, sadly, because I also actually like the shape of the sheath, nice and slim. Just doeasnt work in real use. Thanx for watching!
My favourites are old laminated ones. Currently a Carl Andersson no. 1 1/2 and a Frosts 2/0. Also have a CA no. 1 from the Swedish Civil Defense on the way which has the orange handle. Very cool in my opinion. Collecting vintage Mora classics is quite addicting if you know where to look for them. Also often cheaper than buying a new one, and I really like the laminated steel. Nothing wrong with the carbon blades though.

Good idea for a video though, and I've learnt a ton from fixing loose blades, and worn handles. But, yeah, tons of old ones out there. Good thing about them is that I can use them without worry because they're so common. There are exceptions of course, but I'll let someone else get those as I'm not that kind of collector. The Mora is a symbol of Nordic egalitarianism in my mind. Even the poorest worker should be able to have a high quality tool that can last a lifetime or more.

Unfortunately they discontinued the no.1 for some reason and replaced it with the 1/0 which is quite a bit smaller. Doesn't make sense too me because the original no.1 was such a classic. I did wrap the sheath in leather I got from the craft store and it looks much better so I definitely suggest doing that!

Nobody can compete with their budget knife line. Mora Pro, Robust and Companion are legendary knives, and I have many of them placed everywhere.
