I would also love Mindanao to flourish like the other two islands but you can't easily change someone's "advocacy" in few months or few years, let alone certain groups who were hardened by decades of battle. Of course, only a tiny part of Mindanao is dangeroys but any foreign looking person should still be careful going to those places since danger can surprise us again. Hopefully the threat is officially over. By that I mean, no Philippine soldier have to defend us from our own, go back home to their families and have all their energy exerted towards outside force, specially in the North Western part of the country.

Yes, it's generally safe now unlike in the 80's and 90's early 2000s. Kulas becomming filipino, Ansel commander daot and even brett maverick has been living in mindano for many years. They promote mindanao as safe to live and visit.
I was born in Mindanao and lived for 41 years now it's safer than Luzon and Visayas I guarantee you. Not dangerous at all the details you heard is absolutely wrong it's very safe here

my kuya is currently assigned in Mindanao. He's a Battalion COmmander. He said that Mindanao is generally safe so long as you are respectful. I wish Mindanao will achieve a lasting peace. I have a high respect for all the Filipinos living there. Still please be careful. Kuya said, Boracay is nothing compared to Mindanao waters. I wish to visit the place. In late 90s, when my kuya was assigned in an area as a young Lt. they were about to go home when two of his men were sniped dead. It was a sad day when they returned here in 6x6, they were very sad. Imagine surviving the mountains for 6 mos and just when they are about to leave to go back here in Luzon, his men were buying pasalubong when they were killed. But now, I was told it is generally safe unlik e before.

I used to study the war in Mindanao, a lot when I used to work as a research analyst for the Armed Forces, but I admit that despite my experience, I don't know everything so I try to be careful with my words. Still, this place isn't for talking about politics. I'm sorry if what I said may have triggered some hate; it is not my intention. Even though the stroy I shared was sad, my big brother and the other soldiers I used to work with just wanted peace. It's interesting that people who have been in fights, in the frontlines aren't usually angry,they dont have such hatred in their hearts. but people watching TV at home have a lot to say. Tinuy-an falls is located in Bislig City while te Enchanted river is located in the town of Hinatuan which are all part of the province of Surigao del Sur. There are lots of nice places in Surigao provinces (both north and South) which are not featured in media and social outlets. To name a few towns with potentials in tourism activities such as Lingig, Barobo, Marhatag and many others that can be found in Surigao del Sur.

I stayed in Northern Mindanao for about a month, and I never felt safer. I had absolutely no problem, and could freely walk around anywhere and no one bothered me. Everyone was so friendly and helpful.
it is not safe here. stop encouraging dangerous behavior. hell much of the country isn't safe, not even for filipinos. it's a side effect of poverty sadly

@jschudel777 to be fair most of it, I can only speak from personal experience of course. I'm not sure I'd live around Cotobato, Marawi or Zamboanga del sur yet, but most of the island is safe and opening up for tourism.
I was born and raised in Marawi City, Mindanao. It was a beautiful city, with a bustling fish market, delicious food, a stunning lake, and the coldest, cleanest air in the Philippines (don't compare it to Baguio City-I've been there many times). It was also peaceful (unlike what you may have heard). When I was 12, I left Marawi and moved around. Now, Marawi and everything in it has turned to ashes, but the city is slowly recovering, and people are seeing hope. I salute the man who visited places I've never been to, like Zamboanga and Davao. I know my people. You may have heard bad things about them, but they are no different from people in other countries. Mindanao is a beautiful place, but it is unfortunate that the rulers have not been able to manage it properly.

I live in Mindanao for 20 years now. We're from Luzon and Visayas first but many relatives of us had settled here way before we did. It's always generally safe, especially Davao. But wherever you go in the world I believe it's basic to always rely on yourself first for your own safety and security, and not generalize the negative experience to all situations if ever you had one. Philippines is still developing and yes we don't deny so many imperfections; but having a fun, safe, enjoyable, satisfying, and memorable travel is generally possible with good success rate. Just be more open and allow yourself to experience it.
I grow up in Cagayan de Oro, been to all the places you went here. All safe. Just watch for pick pockets. Thats all. Old dangerous times are over. Terrorist possibly still exists but you really have to take yourself there for you to get kidnapped. Ill be afraid to walk around the streets here in Philadelphia than going to Mindanao.

9 years ago I lived in Mindanao ( Davao City ) for a year. The impression I go was the the further west you go heading towards Zamboanga , the more dangerous it became a s a foreigner . Having said that , I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and would happily live there again
Mindanao is a beautiful place. There are a lot of amazing sceneries and fruits are so abundant. I always go to Mindanao every 5 years before pandemic. I want to go back soon. I miss the very sweet pineapples of Bukidnon and the unlimited Durian of course. Next time you should go to Lake Sebu 7 Falls in South Cotabato. The majestic 7 cascading falls. You'll be able to see the 7 falls when you take their zipline. It's the only way to see the other falls as others are not easy to reach.
Your local tricyvle driver iis cool driving u around Bislig. What a great adventure, now mindanao is much safer due to the governments efforts to MAKE IT A SAFE PLACE TO LIVE. Your vlog inspired me to go there.
I can't help but laugh when people label Zamboanga (City) as "most dangerous". I can just imagine the warzone-like images that people start to have in their minds lol. Maybe this was true for a time (way way back) in very few areas of the city (remember Zamboanga City is huuuuge). I grew up in this city in the 90s and the 2000s and have had a lovely childhood. It is where I learned to dream and appreciate life. And whenever I'm home for a few weeks these days, it's a feeling that still persists whenever I'm in our beautiful city. I've been to many places already, yet my heart will always be in Zamboanga ❤️ There's also this endless fascination when people can easily start switching between Philippine languages (I don't think I've ever observed this in any other city/town in the PH, not that I've been to all of them tho) If you want to see a different (and more realistic) side of Zambo far from what the media portrays, I suggest you watch videos made by Erwan and his team in their channel FEATR (+ many other travel vloggers!)
Maybe there are certain places in Mindanao that considered dangerous like JULO, BASILAN or MARAWI but overall it is safe.. plus the people are very welcoming and friendly and of course the highlight is the breathtaking sceneries.. Have fun in Mindanao coz theres a lot more to see here.. Hope you can come to PAGADIAN CITY my hometown .. keep safe
Well sir, even Jolo and Basilan now is boosting up their tourism, just contact their LGU tourism office so that they can guide and accomodate you especially for foreigners.

jolo is safe now, and there are beautiful beaches i've visited last may 2023 w/ my sis in law, we even went to that place named Patikul,,,it is this place before where there were always an encounter between abbu sayaf vs AFP soldiers, but now no more,,,we've even went to Mang Sali beach resort around 4pm and returned home safely at 10pm
as a local in Southern Luzon Bicol Region, Mindanao is a wonderful island. So many untouched beautiful places, Even I as a local want to visit there someday.

I've lived in this beautiful part of mindanao for nearly 4 years and never had a problem or felt unsafe. It's a fantastic place to live and visit.

@jschudel777 to be fair most of it, I can only speak from personal experience of course. I'm not sure I'd live around Cotobato, Marawi or Zamboanga del sur yet, but most of the island is safe and opening up for tourism.

I was born and raised in Marawi City, Mindanao. It was a beautiful city, with a bustling fish market, delicious food, a stunning lake, and the coldest, cleanest air in the Philippines (don't compare it to Baguio City-I've been there many times). It was also peaceful (unlike what you may have heard). When I was 12, I left Marawi and moved around. Now, Marawi and everything in it has turned to ashes, but the city is slowly recovering, and people are seeing hope. I salute the man who visited places I've never been to, like Zamboanga and Davao. I know my people. You may have heard bad things about them, but they are no different from people in other countries. Mindanao is a beautiful place, but it is unfortunate that the rulers have not been able to manage it properly.

I have been to Marawi many times after the siege, but the city is slowly being rebuilt and developed.

Filipino ako pero hindi ko e sacrifice sarili ko para pumunta doon. Stay foot nalang ako sa lugar ko na alam ko safe ako sa mga abusayaf. Hindi mo hawak ang situation kapag pumunta ka doon sa mga lugar na hindi mo alam kung saan ang safe at hindi safe para sa mga tourist local o dayuhan na wala oras.

I live in Mindanao for 20 years now. We're from Luzon and Visayas first but many relatives of us had settled here way before we did. It's always generally safe, especially Davao. But wherever you go in the world I believe it's basic to always rely on yourself first for your own safety and security, and not generalize the negative experience to all situations if ever you had one. Philippines is still developing and yes we don't deny so many imperfections; but having a fun, safe, enjoyable, satisfying, and memorable travel is generally possible with good success rate. Just be more open and allow yourself to experience it.

I grow up in Cagayan de Oro, been to all the places you went here. All safe. Just watch for pick pockets. Thats all. Old dangerous times are over. Terrorist possibly still exists but you really have to take yourself there for you to get kidnapped. Ill be afraid to walk around the streets here in Philadelphia than going to Mindanao.

Davao in general is very promising, mi multilayered falls sila called aliwagwag falls. And there's another water falls that is not common, not cold but hot.

9 years ago I lived in Mindanao ( Davao City ) for a year. The impression I go was the the further west you go heading towards Zamboanga , the more dangerous it became a s a foreigner . Having said that , I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and would happily live there again

Mindanao is a beautiful place. There are a lot of amazing sceneries and fruits are so abundant. I always go to Mindanao every 5 years before pandemic. I want to go back soon. I miss the very sweet pineapples of Bukidnon and the unlimited Durian of course. Next time you should go to Lake Sebu 7 Falls in South Cotabato. The majestic 7 cascading falls. You'll be able to see the 7 falls when you take their zipline. It's the only way to see the other falls as others are not easy to reach.

I can't help but laugh when people label Zamboanga (City) as "most dangerous". I can just imagine the warzone-like images that people start to have in their minds lol. Maybe this was true for a time (way way back) in very few areas of the city (remember Zamboanga City is huuuuge). I grew up in this city in the 90s and the 2000s and have had a lovely childhood. It is where I learned to dream and appreciate life. And whenever I'm home for a few weeks these days, it's a feeling that still persists whenever I'm in our beautiful city. I've been to many places already, yet my heart will always be in Zamboanga ❤️ There's also this endless fascination when people can easily start switching between Philippine languages (I don't think I've ever observed this in any other city/town in the PH, not that I've been to all of them tho)
If you want to see a different (and more realistic) side of Zambo far from what the media portrays, I suggest you watch videos made by Erwan and his team in their channel FEATR (+ many other travel vloggers!)

Maybe there are certain places in Mindanao that considered dangerous like JULO, BASILAN or MARAWI but overall it is safe.. plus the people are very welcoming and friendly and of course the highlight is the breathtaking sceneries.. Have fun in Mindanao coz theres a lot more to see here.. Hope you can come to PAGADIAN CITY my hometown .. keep safe

jolo is safe now, and there are beautiful beaches i've visited last may 2023 w/ my sis in law, we even went to that place named Patikul,,,it is this place before where there were always an encounter between abbu sayaf vs AFP soldiers, but now no more,,,we've even went to Mang Sali beach resort around 4pm and returned home safely at 10pm
