Oh I wish I'd known you visited Munich, I live here and could have shown you around a bit 😄 Glad you had a good experience an hopefully didn't encounter our chapter of the organised begging ring... Munich has a lot of them, too, they're always in the same spots (especially around the Karlsplatz/ Stachus area with the grand fountain) and tend do shove their bared amputation stumps into your face... it's really annoying. Fun fact: All performers you see in the Munich city center have to be officially approved => they have to apply at City Hall in the morning and play/ perform something, and they only get a licence for one day and only for a certain spot. This way, the City of Munich maintains a certain quality and variety of the performances. If somebody without a licence performs, they will be fined and asked to leave immediately. I've even seen a grand piano a few times and wondered how the f... they got it there. I don't think anybody would make that kind of effort if they didn't know for sure that they would be allowed to perform the whole day in that spot. I don't know what the woman on the tram was yelling about, either - not a language I speak 😂

its not only for restaurants but bars too. if there's a guy or girl trying to lure you into a bar offering free shots or whatever, don't bother. it's going to be a pretty watered down shot and drinks inside are going to be expensive. the bar next door probably has cheaper and better drinks Edit: and from what i hear, NEVER go with it in Japan. if someone in japan approaches you and says they know a good bar, don't fall for it. those places are absolute scams, at the door pricing will be cheap but inside will charge you exorbitant prices and will not let you leave until you give them all the money they ask
Im so happy staying in my own home where i watch old videos or look at old photos from when place "used to be" nice. I have no interest in travel anymore. We've just got back from Prague and decided to spend Christmas there. We made a vlog recently with some more to drop! We also caught the people playing music on the bridge it was beautiful, but you're right, There were SO many people we couldn't go in most of the places we planned which is sad. We're lucky we didn't come across many scams whilst we we're there but we did see the beggers and was approached by the males in pure white suits several times! If you want to see a prettier side to Prague, we only have 500 subs and we'd LOVE people to watch our vlogs! We went inside the miners candy store (not to buy anything but to see all the cool decor! 100% agree to never spend money in there! (we also did a whole travel vlog to Budapest!)
As a fellow glob trotter, I feel that crime, drug addiction, and homelessness has markedly increased in Europe over the last 5 years. I was shocked when I was in Hamburg just over a month ago - the area around the central train station has always been a bit sketchy, but it was downright dystopian this time. In certain areas of Athens, a woman taking on the persona of a destitute mother with a real baby was placed on every street corner begging. It was quite something to behold. The place where we have felt a real sense of communal trust has been Turkey (it may be just where we had wandered - we were walking the Lycian Way - sublime!). Konya just emitted a real sense of old school peace and a strong sense of community. If you haven't gone, I highly recommend it!
I have been living in Prague for 23 years, and I have been playing in the center of Prague on the street for 12 years. As far as I know, the beggars with dogs on Charles bridge are not part of a gang, and don't pay any percentage to a boss or a leader of the mafia. They just organize themselves, and the cops can kick them out anytime. At the moment according to new laws, it's prohibited to beg together with dogs or any other animals. However the homeless mafia as far as I heard is more likely organized at the upper part of Venceslav square.

That's absolutely true about Budapest and their hotels. We stayed there 4 years ago, in a 4 star hotel. The handle on the window was broken, so you couldn't open the window and the air conditioning didn't work either - the staff were completely indifferent, so that was the last time I put my money in that country.
unfortuneatly most like a scam too, even it sounded legit :-( Search for Donation list (or Deaf people) Scam. Pretty common in some larger european cities.
One of the things I noticed when it comes to scam avoidance - other than just be aware is that I usually travel solo and never get pestered by scammers. Not petitions or gold rings, dog poop on shoe, any of that. When I'm with people, I do. I think it's because when you're alone, you're focused on where you're going. You're not trying to keep up or keep track of anyone else and it's very easy to get the 'tunnelvision' that you can't see dude skipping beside you offering a bracelet. My friend and I tested it, we went to one tourist attraction as a pair and got pestered the whole way. The next one, we said we'll split up and meet when we got there and neither of us got pestered. It also helps, buy a newspaper in the local language and carry it tucked under your arm. Presto! You're not a tourist.
We are currently travelling in Italy. Yes, we struck a scammer trying to sell fake train tickets. It is winter and the off season so heck it will be so crowded in the peak season. Wishing u both a happy holiday.
I mean dude they left India like a 1000 years ago, they are in no way related to the modern day Indians. They dont even speak any Indian languages, nor do they have the same cultural practices as Indians.

So glad I was stationed in Bavaria Germany in late 80s early 90s. Beautiful and not crowded or beggers everywhere like this is showing. Thank you for showing these countries now.
I've only traveled in Turkey, and on the recent Istanbul trip the touts were like flies to the proverbial. One morning, I encountered a very helpful young man who told me that he could help me spend my money. Another time, I did bark a lack of interest in his shop selling carpets, Turkish delight and or tea. He was confused because he said only wanted to help telling me when the Aya Sophia was opening. I had already had 11 touts approach me in 5 minutes. It's largely the "touristy areas" that people really have to be on their toes.
I lived in Istanbul for a few years and while I can't say I avoided Sultanahmet (I just loved sitting and reading in the area), I got very good at just looking through people. But, yes, anyone who approaches you there and they're not directly asking for money, then they're going to do you a favour that eventually takes you to their shop.
What's sad is, there really are people on the streets tryin' to earn some money to survive, and those scammers make people believe everyone who lives on the street is a scammer... so better get to know a person before giving them money, mostly you can tell right away who the person in front of you is, just by talking and listening
First time I traveled around Europe in 2012 I got the harsh truth how much scammers there are in biggest European cities. In northern Finland you could leave your laptop or phone on the desk in a cafe, no issues. The prices are always displayed and always the same for everyone. Nowadays you have even some scammers here like homeless begging money since they do not have home, when all hobos in Finland get free apartment from the goverment + money every month to pay for food. Also nowadays you cant leave your phone on the table on cafes, for some reason even young Finnish people can't be trusted anymore.
Yeah! you're right, scam is everywhere. Just, I would 100 times of 100, rather choose to walk on streets of Prague than on streets of Delhi, India. I have almost two decades long connection with India. Reasons I can't mention. Still, I am pretty sure in what I am saying. Greetings from Budapest :)
I think the lack of pedestrian safety and traffic management in Delhi makes it incomparable to Europe. Yes there's beggars and scammers in European cities but no where near the amount you would encounter just standing still on a street corner in Delhi
@@alexis-n8tReally? I live in Munich and have been to all major European cities. Have never been offered drugs on the street, well except once, in Amsterdam, 30+ years ago.
The hotel thing is pretty true. Worst of all in my experience is in London. Me and my wife once stayed at a place called "Vegas Hotel", pretty close to Victoria Station. Price was about average and knowing London we expected that this would mean it wasn't an upper class place, but we really just needed a place to sleep for a couple of nights, we didn't expect to spend any time at all in the room. Got there, looked ok from the street, walked in and the first surprise was that there was no lobby, you just walked into a typically narrow English staircase landing and on the right a small closet had been converted into a reception. Got to the room (no elevator of course, and no one to help with the luggage) and the room smelled so bad of mold that our eyes immediately started to water. Back to the reception and was immediately offered another room, as if they were expecting this but took the chance that we might have accepted it. The new room didn't smell as bad, but it was seriously filthy; dust and dirt everywhere, stains on all the furniture, including the bed, the bathroom had layers of dirt on every surface. The bed was not only filthy but hard as a rock, which included the pillows so we didn't get a very good sleep and slept in as much clothes as possible and covered it with towels and stuff. During our three nights there were plenty of interesting things happening; the second day, when returning to the room after running around London all day we walked in and it seemed that they had at least made some kind of cleaning effort and there were fresh towels folded on the bed.. only it wasn't; it was the same towels we had used that morning which were still soaking wet (the room was so damp that nothing ever dried). The "continental breakfast" included in the stay was a slice of toast cut into half each, with one package of margarine and one package of some weird jam, a cup of coffee or tea, a glass of orange liquid with a faint sent of artificial orange. There was also a dispenser for some sort of random cereals, but it seemed that you'd either have to eat them dry, or pour water on them, because there were nothing like milk, yoghurt etc to mix it with. To crown the experience, the last night we were supposed to catch a really early flight in the morning, so we had to leave at 4:00. The hotel was supposed to have a 24 hour reception, which we double checked and it was supposedly no problem. Interestingly though, once we were ready to leave and opened our door, the night shift reception man, a middle aged Pakistani guy, like everyone else working there was sleeping on the floor right outside our room. We literally had to step over him to get out! We thought "ok, we're done with this" and since we had already paid for everything we just dropped the keys in the closet-reception and left. We've traveled a lot to plenty of places off the beaten path where we've stayed in really weird places and I was active in the army at that time and thus also had experienced some pretty rough conditions so we're ok with pretty basic places and this was an experience we still laugh about, but right then and there we weren't thrilled about the place...
Could be worse, could be US and shoots you; otherwise just don't do it unless you're at knife point and report it to the police, those places often have cameras.
The man sweeping up ash is ridiculous. They are still smoking so he will be there the entire time . Perhaps he is trying to get them to move and not smoke there.
This is sad and true stories about most (if not all) hot touristic cities in Europe. Scammers, shitty hotels, overpriced bad food, fake charities, crappy cheap souvenirs and crazy crowds of people. During last years we just trying to avoid such places at all - yes, we miss some great sightseeing, unfortunately, but enjoy beautiful Italian villages instead of idk Milan, or Slovakian countryside, or Bosnian small cities. Nowadays you almost always find in such places good food, very little amount of people, warm hosts and no scammers.

I've been to Budapest many times. Never once have I felt threatened. It's a great city. The Karavan food market you didn't go to is one of my favourite places to eat. I've never been scammed, over charged, or anything.... Just keep your wits about you, like you would anywhere.
as a greek living in sweden, overtourism in greece has gotten so bad that you need to book your trip a whole year in advance or you will have to pay upwards of 6000 euros just to go for a week or so like i just wanna go to see my family every summer, italy generally has low prices to go to, therefore people will choose to take a trip to italy because of the low cost and a wide availability with ryanair and other budget airlines meaning that italy can be subject to impulse trips and people not being fully aware of scams and therefore scammers taking advantage of it.
Also, can we stop calling it 'Europe'. There are 44 countries in Europe and each is so different from the next. You can not state 'watch out for this scam in Europe', it's very specific to each country. London is very different to the rest of the UK, and that is the same country,
Same beggar scam in Australia as well. Same pose and everything, they do collectively change the pose every couple of days. But they have 3 main times. The morning when everyone is going to work, lunchtime for the tourists and End of work times to catch anyone going home from work.
that exact black guy on the Mikey mouse part, i remember him. we went to Prague, and as a family, looked around for a boat ride, as we wanted to look at beautiful Prague, of course. then out of nowhere, this guy comes up, with a sign, i remember it, that exact one, and he just keeps bothering us, non-stop, we walk away, he follows us, and so on. now with this guy yapping about some nonsense, we don't find another boat ride, so we agree to his annoying. the ride was fine, but right after we step out of the boat, we find a bunch of boat ride posters and signs that show for a ride longer, and much cheaper. what a scammer.
I adore Europe, it's so pretty here, but it's a shame you can never feel safe on the streets. Disgusting people preying on people's kindness, and oblivious tourists giving in. Also the AMOUNT of tourists - it is so sad. I want people to come here and experience the beauty of our home but too many people, often entitled, visiting can lead to issues and destruction of property and history! It's a tragic thing, and another thing I can blame on social media as "influencers" share "hidden" locations to visit, and all of a sudden it's closed because of the tourists.
Good call on the restaurants. In Istanbul, especially in the Sultanahmet area, NEVER go to a restaurant with these door guys trying to bring you in. 100% the food will be average or worse and they will try to do something funny with the bill at the end.
I just returned from Prague yesterday. I was there with my wife for New Year's eve. We were walking up the castle and this man standing on the side of the stairs stopped us and started putting some pigeons he was holding in his hands on my wife's shoulders. She laughed and i took a few photos. Then he came to me and asked me for 2000 Czech crowns. That's about 80€. I asked him why and he replied "for the photos you took". I told him no and that I'm deleting the photos immediately. He started beginning for money so i gave him a few Crowns, the equivalent of a few Cents only because we finally didn't delete the photos. Generally i had a good time EXCEPT the overpopulation of tourists. Oh my god does Prague have a problem with the overpopulation of tourists!! The night of New Year's Eve was terrible to go outside. Prague is so beautiful, but the tourists overpopulation problem is there in your face..
4:05 he seems to be a local pissed off that the attitude of some tourists, he knows hes not a cop, he cant just tell random people what to do, so instead, hes acting a bit passive agressive and invades smokers personal space and showing them that he, a citizen is cleaning up after them. Hes basically calling their lack of good manners and courtesy to their face, like here, here is what you are making me do because you cant be bothered to throw away your consumed cigarettes in the bin a few metres away, and here is what it takes to clean up after you are done smoking. That is just my speculation but if it were me, I prob would d something similar.
What are you talking about…tourists are scammed in ALL tourist places of the world. I’ve been in Bangalore now for 4 days and have been charged local prices …...as I am the only foreigner in this area. Needless to say i am not in a tourist area.
The number of beggars has increased massively in the last decade and a half, certainly in Paris, which was heaving with scammers every time I have visited in that period. Madrid, nowhere near as bad, beggars mainly in the vicinity of Puerta del Sol. Budapest, never saw any beggars in a dozen visits, though maybe it has kicked off there as well now. D
I can't decide if I'm happy that you didn't encounter any scam in Vienna or sad that there was no content about it, as there usually barely is any here at all, just the occasional organised beggar or dressed people trying to sell you overpriced stuff. Hope you had a nice time there!
I was walking in my own home town, San Antonio Texas. I was taking a much over due "me-day" on the Riverwalk and went into a convenience store. I got an ice cream bar and barely noticed if at all, no price. I thought, "Riverwalk...Can't be more than $2.50" But when I got to the counter, while taking a bite, the man said, "$7.50" I knew I had been played, and just took the hit, rather than give him one.
I didn't expect all this in Europe - did you? Part 2 coming soon!

Transporting a piano is quite easy when you dont have to move it over stairs.
Happy New Year Karl!!! Thank you for also showing us scams in Europe!!! Despite the scams, I hope you enjoyed your time in Europe!!!
Hey Bro! Happy New Year! I loved my time there. The food was the highlight for me. I had a lot of fun trying all the local dishes. I fell in love with sausages there too 😋
These scams are growing in Australia and people are so unaware.
Sad to hear. I visited Australia in 2016 for a year and as a German it was great to meet so many nice people. Everything super clean and well organised. You have refugees now as well or why did it change?
@@Tinmy354 We always had those just not as big a problem. Had no go zones since around 2000. The scams and junkie populations are growing as Aus gets weaker. Most of Aus is still great but not as great as it was even 5 years ago.

What a great video @karlRock. Can't wait to see Part 2 in Italy. Thanks for all the educational videos about scams. We need to spread the word far and wide and I appreciate you leading the way. Happy New Year to you and your beautiful family.
I felt claustrophobic looking at the crowd sizes. Yikes. I'd go for architecture, I suppose. The poor guy at the end: in a relationship about 50 years too long lol. Scammers are the worst. Thanks for sharing.
I love that you are in europe Karl, and i am always up for a good video from you about scams.
Glad you like them! Lots more to come. I'm loving Europe, although I'll mostly be covering scams there 😅 I'm really enjoying authentic European food... it just doesn't taste as good overseas.
its not only for restaurants but bars too. if there's a guy or girl trying to lure you into a bar offering free shots or whatever, don't bother. it's going to be a pretty watered down shot and drinks inside are going to be expensive. the bar next door probably has cheaper and better drinks
Edit: and from what i hear, NEVER go with it in Japan. if someone in japan approaches you and says they know a good bar, don't fall for it. those places are absolute scams, at the door pricing will be cheap but inside will charge you exorbitant prices and will not let you leave until you give them all the money they ask
Im so happy staying in my own home where i watch old videos or look at old photos from when place "used to be" nice.
I have no interest in travel anymore. We are overpopulated, we ruin everything, places are becoming more and more hostile.
I have no interest in seeing places just so i can get a photo, ill never take one better than the experts
The price of travel itself is becoming horrendous its become the biggest aspect of consumerism
Thanks Karl you make it more enjoyable and safer to travel with the things you share
glad to know munich dont have scams, it probably has but it is very uncommon. thank you karl for this video, appreciate it!
You don't need scammers in Germany, the governments pay foreigners enough by scamming it directly.
The scams there in Europe is very classy.
They have their own style of scamming. Thanks Karl
Great to see you again Karl. 😊

Thank you for sharing these important points; they were truly valuable to me.
"avoid scams!" then he tells the iskon lady he would contribute but not by card..then he says he will give in cash later at their restaurant. WTF??
hahaha
Karl! I stumbled on your channel and what I liked the most in other videos is how you stood up for others and against scammers. Keep it up these videos are enjoyable
Honest Guide is top on what they are doing. I am watching them for years now and they keep Prague clean ! Karl you do a great job too i ve also seen so many videos of yours in India revealing scams !! Keep it up

She was yelling in a slavic language. You could hear the "da" in the end.
she was yelling in polish actually ☝🤓 and saying that if he doesnt move she is gonna tell on him that hes drinking 🥸
That's absolutely true about Budapest and their hotels. We stayed there 4 years ago, in a 4 star hotel. The handle on the window was broken, so you couldn't open the window and the air conditioning didn't work either - the staff were completely indifferent, so that was the last time I put my money in that country.
@11:56 Sitting here in Odisha and hearing the lady speak about Puri Jagannath in Budapest is just amazing .. Cheers to u brother. Cheers to life.
I was surprised to hear her speak about Odisha too! I love that state. I’ve been to Puri, so I knew exactly what she’s talking about ☺️ Thanks Ji
unfortuneatly most like a scam too, even it sounded legit :-( Search for Donation list (or Deaf people) Scam. Pretty common in some larger european cities.
I feel guilty because I assumed she was a scammer 😢
@@trembo835 it is a typical scam tactict to collect donations in tourist areas
Funny how they're almost never natives....
these are crimes for money. Natives do moral crimes already allowed by their godless laws

The beggars and pickpockets are closely related to the Dalits of India. They are called Gypsies or Romanis. Most of them live in Bulgaria and Romania.
I WILL REPORT YOU FOR RACISM I SWEAR TO GOD

bro forget about hungary, there are also a lot there
I see that's where they originated and now they r everywhere
I mean dude they left India like a 1000 years ago, they are in no way related to the modern day Indians. They dont even speak any Indian languages, nor do they have the same cultural practices as Indians.
Fantastic video, as usual, Karl Rock loves to take a trip to some of these places you visit all that beautiful architecture
Love Munich! I am always having a great time there! There is some strange people everywhere. But in general I always feel safe and welcome there ❤️ Good vibes city
I am surprised you didn't catch up with Honest Guide being his home town. He was recommended from watching your clips. He seems to do a very good job catching out scammers like you do 👌
So glad I was stationed in Bavaria Germany in late 80s early 90s.
Turkiye is exahusting
Be very careful in Turkey … every tout tries to scam tourists
Hospitality in Europe is horrible … you are right
I lived in Istanbul for a few years and while I can't say I avoided Sultanahmet (I just loved sitting and reading in the area), I got very good at just looking through people. But, yes, anyone who approaches you there and they're not directly asking for money, then they're going to do you a favour that eventually takes you to their shop.
What a great video! I loved it from second 1 till the very last second!
Thank you very much again Karl!!
Good that you showed the guy on the train trying to return the lost phone. Most people are decent.
I am heading to Mumbai in February and can't wait 🇮🇪🇮🇳

@ericcleesak8074 no need, thanks anyway 😂
Enjoy!
What's sad is, there really are people on the streets tryin' to earn some money to survive, and those scammers make people believe everyone who lives on the street is a scammer... so better get to know a person before giving them money, mostly you can tell right away who the person in front of you is, just by talking and listening
9:19 Haha your dad waving back at him. Legend.
Haha I only noticed that too when I was editing. Good vibes.
I didn't have problems walking around Delhi...only when I needed transport
I think the lack of pedestrian safety and traffic management in Delhi makes it incomparable to Europe. Yes there's beggars and scammers in European cities but no where near the amount you would encounter just standing still on a street corner in Delhi
TBF Delhi is the worst city in India (and one of the worst in the world), but people would assume much higher standards from Europe!
Thank you Karl love your videos 👏🏻. I cannot stand scamming they all need prison 🙈🤮
Being offered drugs multiple times a day in prime tourist hotspots is something I will never forget about Prague. It needs to be stopped.
Unfortunately it is like that in all big cities in Europe
@@alexis-n8tReally? I live in Munich and have been to all major European cities. Have never been offered drugs on the street, well except once, in Amsterdam, 30+ years ago.
Lisbon is the worst about that-been offered multiple times in 10 minutes.
It's quite convenient if you're actually looking for drugs.
@@frankexplores4794 It can happen when you walk through very specific parts depending on the city.
A tough local guy extorted us for 60 euros at the Praha train station. Never going back.
Could be worse, could be US and shoots you; otherwise just don't do it unless you're at knife point and report it to the police, those places often have cameras.
What happened?
Your own fault for being stupid

The man sweeping up ash is ridiculous. They are still smoking so he will be there the entire time . Perhaps he is trying to get them to move and not smoke there.

Just clearly a sad old bastard
This is sad and true stories about most (if not all) hot touristic cities in Europe. Scammers, shitty hotels, overpriced bad food, fake charities, crappy cheap souvenirs and crazy crowds of people. During last years we just trying to avoid such places at all - yes, we miss some great sightseeing, unfortunately, but enjoy beautiful Italian villages instead of idk Milan, or Slovakian countryside, or Bosnian small cities. Nowadays you almost always find in such places good food, very little amount of people, warm hosts and no scammers.

as a greek living in sweden, overtourism in greece has gotten so bad that you need to book your trip a whole year in advance or you will have to pay upwards of 6000 euros just to go for a week or so like i just wanna go to see my family every summer, italy generally has low prices to go to, therefore people will choose to take a trip to italy because of the low cost and a wide availability with ryanair and other budget airlines meaning that italy can be subject to impulse trips and people not being fully aware of scams and therefore scammers taking advantage of it.

Karl you are the only one doing these kind of videos without any bias.
Prague is so beautiful, but the tourists overpopulation problem is there in your face..
its funny...tourists complaining that theyre not the only tourists there..
Hey man, good content about scammers! Do you have any plans to visit Poland? I curious about your opinion.
What are you talking about…tourists are scammed in ALL tourist places of the world. I’ve been in Bangalore now for 4 days and have been charged local prices …...as I am the only foreigner in this area. Needless to say i am not in a tourist area.
Yes but not at the same level. You’ll get little or no scamming in Tokyo for example.
Maybe they exported d them all from Bangladesh (to Italy)😑
3:39 It looks like "Gandhigiri". Making someone feel uncomfortable about his action (in this case, smoking in public) but not telling him directly.
I would make him feel uncomfy in a sec
I can't decide if I'm happy that you didn't encounter any scam in Vienna or sad that there was no content about it, as there usually barely is any here at all, just the occasional organised beggar or dressed people trying to sell you overpriced stuff. Hope you had a nice time there!
Poor animals with the false homeless....poor, poor animals.
