Carly has that rarest of talents that allows her to make the simplest of songs into a masterpiece. She is still a shining star at the peak of her abilities.
This is no simple song. The wonderfully touching lyric is something of a masterpiece in its own way. Just read those extraordinarily emotionally truthful and literate lyrics.
When Carly discovered her affinity for this repertoire we all discovered that she was a far greater singer than anyone had ever imagined. Splendid performance Ms. Simon!
@sc1david Ohhhhhhhhh, dreamy wonderful music, and yes a Great Arangement, and that sexy Sax!!! My Dad was in a band starting in the 40's so this is the sound I grew up with. Nat "The King Cole", Ella, Nelson Riddle, Glen Miller, love Tex and the Modenaires, Sanatra singing "Let it Snow". The Best!! Caryl McD
From the first note, I know it is Carly Simon. 1976 -- Farmer's Market Los Angeles and I'm deciding on a basket of strawberries and "the voice" behind me says -- "oh, I like that one".... thank you CS!
love Carly. and i love this song. She sings it great. Looks great. Some commentators for some reason had to say they preferred Ella's interpretation better. Well Ella does sing it great too. Completely different styles. Not cool to compare. As much as i love Carly's version, if we had to compare, try Frank's version with Nelson Riddle. Not saying it's better, but worth listening to.
I like Ella's version but Carly makes the most beautiful rendition of it , and with all due respect but this arrangement is the most beautiful I've ever heard of this song. Many have recorded it but nothing compares to Carly's.
CARLY SIMON - Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered On the same computer screen at this moment Siriusly Sinatra satellite radio is listing “Carly Simon / Frank Sinatra - Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out to Dry” - plus three, consecutive versions of “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered” - the first, by Frank, followed by Ella, and then, immediately by Carly. Followed by the singer herself saying, “This is Carly Simon Playing Favorites on Sirius XM.” Google the song and the singer and the first offering this day at UA-cam, is this gem: Carly in a nightclub setting, asking her audience, “Have any of you ever felt like a simpering, whimpering child?” [Most recent comment below the video speaks for millions of us, including Carly herself!] Peter Florino 1 year ago "Love Carly. and I love this song. love the song Carly rocks it sooo sexy ............... MISS ELLA stands alone with this but you might want check out GAGA ..... and ROD & CHER all class
PapaWilk The original lyrics are sexier. You can watch Stockard Channing or Madeline Kahn (and others) sing them on UA-cam clips. For example: "Couldn't sleep, Wouldn't sleep, Until I could sleep where I SHOULDN'T sleep." And there's an interesting play on that line about the boy being a laugh and the laugh is ON her. Nothing wrong with Carly Simon's version, even Ella Fitzgerald sang the cleaned-up lyrics, though.
Brilliant voice

I miss liner notes. Beautiful rendition. I’d love to know whose arrangement was used!
But what was she doing over the piano during the sax solo?😵💫
My speakers are two quivering puddles on my desk now. Sigh.

Somewhere Lorenz Hart is smiling.
She should have sung the sexy lyrics.

Yuck. Pretentious. Going back to Linda Ronstadt.
