Nothing that I"m seeing at the moment. I could be missing it though. I'm finishing cutting a 200 yard backstop into my range this winter and hope to try some 200 yard shots soon!

I wonder how much more accurate the LR-X 30" barrel is over the 26" MR_X barrel at 200 yards. Does that extra 4 inches on the tube really make any difference in accuracy. Let me begin by saying I really enjoy your channel. Maybe you can help me - I am new to muzzle loading and just purchased a CVA LR-X (based on your article on the rifle and grabbed the Vortex Crossfire Scope) - thanks for that. But I have a odd question. What are the tools and screws that come with the rifle? I know one tool is for primer and firing pin removal, I think the tiny screws are for the barrel - sight hole screws but what are the other screws and angle iron for? Like I said I am a newbie and it may be a simple answer but I have looked everywhere and can't find the answer. Any light you can shed would be appreciated.
Really hard to find caps, I have a CVA that wont fire because the two HOT caps recommended have been unavailable. Found a cap that is listed as hot but still won't fire more than once, can the part with the flash hole be replaced with a larger hole to let more fire hit the powder?
I have a T/C Endevor 50 cal in perfect shape topped with a leupold ultimate slam scope. Should I sell it and get a cva accura or keep what I have. I really don't think you can get a muzzleloader better than the thompson center just my opinion.
Hey as a general question from a Brit who doesn't have to wear blaze orange when we shoot why is camo so important on your guns when you have to dress so bright?
Different states here have different orange rules, but in general I think there are 3 factors 1) It’s my understanding that the animals we hunt while wearing orange can’t see the shade of orange. 2) The human body is a natural shape and can blend in better to the environment. A rifle is full of straight lines and ununatural curves, something an animal can pick up on. 3) new camo colors are a bit like a new color in a new car, it’s a selling point and there’s a certain percentage of folks that are converted to buyers over it. Hope this helps or at least gives you my 2 cents on it. I’m open to being proved wrong or being corrected! Thanks and have a great day
The crossfire is CVAs version of the traditions Nitrofire that uses the federal fire stick design. I’m getting one of em but think the Traditions edges it out with a better trigger and Nitride barrel as to where the CVA uses a stainless barrel and the optima platform. If it was the accura platform with that soft touch stock that would be a no brainer for me
I'm old enough to remember when muzzleloader season was implemented so that people could hunt the same way their great, great, great grandfather hunted. Instead it has become a farce, "modern muzzleloaders", scopes, black powder substitutes, sabot bullets, ect., if you want every modern advantage possible you should be hunting during regular rifle season.
My grandfather hunted in the first Indiana muzzleloading deer hunt, he used an original Civil War Musket. Thankfully there are still many of us that hunt the old ways.
Why is the industry treating these muzzleloader/archery guys any different than gun guys ? Is it because muzzleloaders/achers are doing something of tradition , they need to be able to defend themselves adequately against the gun guys , and etc . Seems like it should be an preference on what you want to hunt with and if you only take shots that you have a clear view of that they all can hunt together or they can zone areas off for each individual technique but we all can have first runs at hunting .

People look for cheats and easy ways to do things, sometimes this is good, but when you do this even with your sports and hobbies your either cheating others or yourself. People who are raised as indulgents have no idea what real accomplishments are, they are weak, fragile, incompetent, ect., and they sure as h*ll are not happy people. Challenges are what makes us stronger and gives us a sense of accomplishment, vital if you wish to have real self esteem instead of the phony puffed up self esteem, it also is one of the things which makes life more interesting. The ultimate expression of this cheating mentality would be to have a robot go out and hunt for you, and then brag to your friends about the big buck you got, its nothing more than a hollow, meaningless, participation trophy. When you set real challenges for yourself, then you can have meaningful accomplishments.
I have a CVA Optima V2 50 LR nitride rifle. It is a tack driver. With blackhorn and hornady 250gr sst. I got mine shooting 1/2 group at 100 yds. I left my 280 rem put up during gun season. I carried my CVA rifle. I killed 4 deer with it. All 4 dropped in there tracks. Longest shot was 170 yds. I have been looking at a new CVA Accura LR x rifle. Haven't decided between 45 or 50. May go with a 50. Because i have all the stuff. I have owned several Remington 700 50 cal. And 2 different Knights rifles. Love the Remington too. But none was accurate as my CVA. I will keep my Optima V2 50 LR. I will add a Accura LR x to my collection. Top it with a Leopold 3x9x40mm ML scope . I wish CVA made a youth 45 cal. I would buy my wife one. Not many youth muzzleloaders out. I know u have shot a Accura rifle. I like shooting hornady 250gr sst. I also have several hornady 290gr bore driver bullets to try. What do you think the new hornady bore drive eld x bullets? Would u shoot the eld x out of the Accura? Or just stick with a 250gr sst or bore driver 290gr type bullet?
You'll have to try the boredrivers out and see how it performance with a certain loading. Only negative I've seen about those projectiles are the fast expansion and lack of penetration, similar to the powerbelt line, so I'm assuming it's a projectile that performs better at slower velocities or lighter charges vs the magnum charges.
I have both Traditional and modern I enjoy both styles . I also hunt with Mil Surp. And modern day rifles . Guess what Ive harvested game with all. I get strange looks and comments about me hunting with a CZ 98/22 8mm in its original configuration. I also received comments about Hunting the Hard way with a Muzzleloader. I say hunt the way you want to and let others hunt their way. Cant we all get along!
Had one got rid of it I also had the omega the cva in freezing temperatures the trigger Hamer messed up i didn't care why it happened I missed a deer got rid of it the omega never failed me great looking gun tho easy clean up and in above freezing temperatures works great could have been as simple as type of grease don't know didn't car
So Blackhorn 209 powder is literally $163 per pound for those that might possibly find the new 8oz canister….the Paramounts are $1920 msrp….with an oversized bore so the new owner is coerced into buying CVA’s proprietary “space ship” bullets….and CVA purposely controls the barrel twists available and reported tapered/choked bores further manipulating the wants and needs of the market to their advantage….instead of cooperating with it’s customer base…
Yep, I can attest that my .45 MR-X has a choked and oversized barrel. It shoots great with sabots and fury startip .402s but I am limited to a bullet that requires some type of plastic to accommodate the choked "design" of the bore. CVA could be knocking these guns out of the park if they would stop messing around purposefully trying to steer people to the Powerbelts
Sry, old school here. Not even slightly interested in those things. Believe it or not, I STILL have a CVA Frontier carbine flintlock rifle in my closet. I bought it in April 1997.
I love CVA but I think they are getting away from their roots. Unless you stay in the wolf or optima line you cant really find a bargin ML (IMO). And for the record I have a V2 in .45 with the thumbhole stock. Got it before they done away with them.
I really don’t know what you had to say about CVA Muzzle loaders, you were talking so much about bolt action rifles I just shut the video off and went looking for something that was dedicated to muzzle loaders. Just my two cents but was not interesting to some who wants to get into muzzle loading.
CVA needs to get off their Powerbelt high horse. Those bullets leave ALOT on the table. They are all copper plated lead bullets prone to fracturing during close shots... they also are not the most accurate bullets due to their design of being slightly undersized. If they want to keep making MLs that are designed for their own bullets thats fine but give the consumer some more and better options. What about the people who want to shoot non lead bullets??? No powerbelts for them??? The future for high end muzzleloading is custom sized full diameter bullets like most of the smokeless guys are shooting. Keep the powerbelts on the market for those naive enough to not know better options are available but also offer (and recommend) some bullets that perform better....ie copper alloy or bonded lead core bullets.
The fact that "muzzle loaders" like these even exist is a sad testimony to everything that has gone wrong with modern-day hunting regulations. Years ago, when "muzzle loading" seasons were first being introduced by state game departments, the only thing available were the variations on the traditional muzzle loading rifles of the past. It was understood (or so we thought) that being allowed to participate in these additional seasons was incumbent upon accepting the limitations of these traditional weapons. All was well and good for some time, at least until the "gamesmen", the "cheaters", the "rules beaters" took notice. No one saw them coming, least of all the various state game departments that had written their regulations with the understanding that they were allowing those willing to accept the challenges of doing so, to hunt with traditional, primitive weapons. Freakin' "hunting lawyers", or "hunting politicians" - "it depends on what 'is' is"... well, for this sort, it depends on what "muzzle loader" means. We all thought we knew... This needs to be reeled back in. These rifles need to be relegated to "modern" rifle hunting seasons because, well, that's exactly what they are. This is absolutely NOT what we meant when these seasons were first implemented. I don't care if people hunt with these, they just cannot be allowed to hunt during any season originally intended for "primitive" weapons.
It's the same argument when it comes to archery and using recurves, compound, crossbow, and air powered arrow slingers. A muzzleloader is still a muzzleloader, it loads the same way and whether or not it has more range or better performance doesn't matter. It's soley up to the hunter and the challenges they wish to apply for the hunt. This also depends on the location, type of game being hunted, as well as the ranges one expects to shoot. A primitive style muzzleloader is not ideal in all cases for all people. If you wish to limit a type of muzzleloader to a specific season, that's your choice to do so upon yourself, but you nor anyone else is in any position to say what people should should be limited too across the board.
I think we are seeing exactly what you are asking for happening at the state level. Hunting rules over the last 5 years have trended towards traditional, or iron sighted, muzzleloaders and could continue to do so. Check out the changes last year in Washington and New Mexico. Fun fact, my grandfather drew a tag for the first modern deer hunt in Indiana. He took his Civil War musket and brough home a tiny forked buck. It was a great story to hear!

All I'm saying is that they should not be allowed to hunt during the special seasons set aside for muzzle loaders. The special seasons were originally created as a way to grant increased opportunity to those willing to accept the challenges inherent in using the weapons of our forefathers. Eliminating most of those challenges by using thoroughly modern rifles whose only connection to the past is that they load from the muzzle flies in the face of that. You are absolutely right on one point - "a primitive style muzzle loader is not ideal in all cases for all people". That is EXACTLY the point, the ENTIRE reason they were granted special seasons. Now we see hunters who very much want those special seasons, but who are unwilling to accept the special challenges that were meant to be a requirement of participation. They want their cake, and they want to eat it, too. They want the special privileges without wanting to put in the effort. So, by all means - hunt with these all you want. More power to you. I'll never tell you that you cannot. I will, however, stand firm that they are not appropriate for use during the SPECIAL seasons originally set aside for traditional, primitive style weapons. Accept the challenges inherent in traditional muzzle loaders, including all of their limitations of range and power, or go hunt the modern firearms seasons. Then you can use whatever you want.
That's why you have both! I like the old nostalgia of the flintlocks and percussion cap style muzzleloaders, but the inline models are superior in almost everyway and if hunting large and dangerous game like Moose or bear, I'd rather have the reliability and power the inlines offer, especially when using better projectiles for good terminal performance.

There must an audience for this kind of coverage, and more power to you for trying to reach that audience. That audience, however, is not interested in muzzleloading except in so far as it gives them another few weeks to hunt. Maybe there’s a modern muzzleloader hunting channel out there or you should start one.
Based on the interactions I've had, the enthusiasts you describe simply need exposed to wide variety of muzzleloading and they'll show an interstest. I've had countless emails and in person conversations to this effect. I hope to provide a judgement free exposure of muzzleloading to anyone with interest.

So I ought a cva optima LR nitrided barrel that I think is cerakoted also .. from Walmart, Is it any different or subpar to the gun-store cva optima ?

You should definitely check out some of the other breech plugs they offer, sounds like you need one of theres with a different configuration.

On many of the modern muzzleloaders, there’s not a huge reason to upgrade unless it wears out, I think.

CVA optima v two is the best muzzle ever designed. I only wished I had a forty five caliber.

Eliminating most of those challenges by using thoroughly modern rifles whose only connection to the past is that they load from the muzzle flies in the face of that.
You are absolutely right on one point - "a primitive style muzzle loader is not ideal in all cases for all people". That is EXACTLY the point, the ENTIRE reason they were granted special seasons. Now we see hunters who very much want those special seasons, but who are unwilling to accept the special challenges that were meant to be a requirement of participation. They want their cake, and they want to eat it, too. They want the special privileges without wanting to put in the effort.
So, by all means - hunt with these all you want. More power to you. I'll never tell you that you cannot. I will, however, stand firm that they are not appropriate for use during the SPECIAL seasons originally set aside for traditional, primitive style weapons. Accept the challenges inherent in traditional muzzle loaders, including all of their limitations of range and power, or go hunt the modern firearms seasons. Then you can use whatever you want.
Primitive hunts should be primitive. Long or recurve bows, exposed cap or flint lock rifles.
Sorry I can't call them muzzle leaders, I just prefer the old school wooden muzzle loaders

That's why you have both! I like the old nostalgia of the flintlocks and percussion cap style muzzleloaders, but the inline models are superior in almost everyway and if hunting large and dangerous game like Moose or bear, I'd rather have the reliability and power the inlines offer, especially when using better projectiles for good terminal performance.

There must an audience for this kind of coverage, and more power to you for trying to reach that audience. That audience, however, is not interested in muzzleloading except in so far as it gives them another few weeks to hunt. Maybe there’s a modern muzzleloader hunting channel out there or you should start one.
Based on the interactions I've had, the enthusiasts you describe simply need exposed to wide variety of muzzleloading and they'll show an interstest. I've had countless emails and in person conversations to this effect. I hope to provide a judgement free exposure of muzzleloading to anyone with interest.
