Missouri had a defensive captain in this game named Sam Adams. Another Sam Adams would be seen at the Orange Bowl in coming years. In fact, a whole lot of them!
@darrellmayberry7784 amazing how so many games back them were defensive struggles. I went to 2 Bowl Games 🏈 in 80s. Hardly any offense by each team in either game.
check out the Missouri QB's face guard. haven't seen that one before. Loved the face masks of those years. Today it seems like everyone wears the same type, or something very similar.
@@brianarbenz1329 I was stationed in England, so I never got to see this game. I liked the Le Mans' in the commercials. Two years later, I bought a 72 for $4300.
@allenmurray7893 that was the cool thing about having 2 vcrs in the 90s you could edit out commercials. They weren't as annoying in the 20th Century as they are now.
I never got tired of unbeaten, get no respect Penn State beating the so-called national "favorites". The fans were against PSU, the announcers, and the media, all against the Lions for years, and Penn State continued to methodically snuff them out. Baaahahahahaha!!
Every person can pray if they wish to. That's what matters. A prayer led for 67,000 people who are only praying because they were told to is no measure of genuineness.
Ya got Mike Reid and Franco Harris on the same team…they would go on and knock heads in the NFL many Sundays..but Mike would retire early and focus on music..imagine that.
Dan Devine's last winning season at Missouri. This team beat the Michigan team that upset Ohio State in 69.
1970 was Devine’s only losing season (5-6) in 22 seasons as a college head coach. He had 3 losing seasons in 4 years with the Packers.
@@johnmanier7968 yet he wasn't popular at Notre Dame. Gerry Faust wasn't an improvement
What pageantry. Networks should show bands. Never knew Billy Graham did College Bowl games 🏈
Billy went wherever the cameras were.
@brianarbenz1329 he could fill up stadiums too, at least minor league ballparks.
I think 3 people would watch bands.
@@michaelguerrieri4768 They show the Stanford Band's antics, or the Ohio State band spell out "Ohio" in cursive, but that's about all.
@@michaelguerrieri4768 Unless there were a wardrobe malfunction!
This is a great channel
Another Pete Johnson played in the Orange Bowl 7 years later for Ohio State. That was Woody Hayes' last Bowl win

@brianarbenz1329 now there's a good historical name
Al DeRogartis' rug looks like a bike helmet from the Tour De France. Or maybe like one of those hats they wear in the winter in Siberia.
@@igorslocks Bing Crosby said he hated wearing 🤣 😂 a rug.
Great video with great color and broadcasting by Jim Simpson even though the actual game was bad.

That was really to hear everyone singing the Star Spangled Banner before kickoff.

got '71 by any chance? (asking for some 76,000 friends)
Remember a lot of these players when they went to the NFL. Too bad you couldn't edit out the commercials.
The commercials are interesting. They show how our national perceptions have changed. And some are nostalgic for me. I was 11 then.

I love you Jess Chabot!
Franco Harris and Lydell Mitchell. A couple of names we would be hearing a _lot_ more.
Linebacker U did well with running backs too

Franco Harris and Lydell Mitchell in the same backfield! Why would you ever throw the ball!
Tiger Woods in thumbnail?
Glad to see Dan Devine lose. Serves him right for not wanting to dress Rudy!! :)
Particularly when you could hear chants of _"Rudy, Rudy"_ coming from all of two or three people in the stands! :)
Would any event ever allow a prayer today? And if so, would any network show it? Saddens me to see how far we’ve drifted away from God.
