- In this video entitled, Fine Art Photography Create Pictures that Sell I create a series of fine-art images that I'm hoping to sell.
See all the pictures here tinyurl.com/y4...
Earlier this week I headed down south to capture some fine-art pictures of Dovercourt Lighthouse. To say it was a long day was an understatement. I arrived in time to shoot a sunrise and stayed all day just so I could shoot the lighthouse during sunset. A long day indeed!
I actually created next weeks video during the day while I was there too. It's a video all about whether we need a 15-stop filter in our bags or not! Look out for that one next week.
The day went really well and I was more than happy with the Fine Art images I captured. As per the norm, there is always something to moan about so here goes mine. It's a real shame the sky wasn't brilliant. There were a few clouds but they were so high and very whispy. Whilst this is great for colour it didn't help me to create long streaky cloudy skies! As much as I'm not normally a huge fan of moving clouds in an image it's always nice to have the option when you're there! Moan over :)
All the same, I'm very happy with the results, are you?
If you agree with me about my take on what fine-art photography is or not then please let me know in the comments.
Thanks
Gary

Great video Gary, and wow look at this video taking off! congrats!
Cheers Nick. I just got lucky with this one I guess. Thanks xx
P.s. I hope you’ve been practising your English 😁😁
My thought about fine art photography is its something extraordinary. This means you don’t commonly see it. It’s something out of the ordinary. This exceptional quality to me defines fine art.
Very watchable stuff Gary. Nice honest approach.
Thanks 👍
Funny, on most vids my faves are yours too....Love fine art photography, beautiful pics!
How happy you are makes me so happy thanks for being you sir ❤
Cheers 👍👍
thank you for the video. you have presented a good aspect of fine art photography and made me more familiar with and therefore more attracted to this genre of picturing.
Yes you are an artist who creates his art in the field and not in post. That's real art.
Very kind of you to say, thank you
Art is like a Hero & a Villian, One persons hero is a villian another persons villain is a hero. That's the beauty of art.
I agree with you for your favorite pic. I think, fine art photography is a very special thing to do. It is the magic of negative space. You are one of the masters in this.
This video inspired me ..well done Gray...🍁🍁🍁
Beautiful work! Thx for sharing.
Thank you for those excellent pictures of where I spent my childhood summers...
Cheers 👍
I agree with you on the art part. Art is in the eye of the beholder, just like beauty is. Photography is doing your best to capture the moment and do as much as you can "in-camera".
Well said! 👍👍
Great vid...got some good ideas again !! I agree with your choice of best shot...love the ethereal fog look ! But i like the glassy shot with sky color too.
Thank you for this inspiring Video. Great Job. Greetings from Germany.
Great video and superb photos 👍😀
Many thanks!
Woah, those are beautiful photographs Gary! Absolutely stunning!
Many thanks! Cheers 👍
Great video. Thanks for the heads up on this location. Its on my to do list. All the best.
I've got a bit jaded with my photography but your videos have inspired me to take a fresh perspective on my whole approach thanks.
Fine Art photography is growing on me. I enjoy your vlogs and learning from you.
Cheers Dave 👍👍
Gary, keep up the good work! Your voice and accent is perfect for this!
Thanks, will do!
I think what it takes to be considered fine art is having skills and the basics of photography to make great photographs which are fine art. Because photography is a form of art.
Thanks Gary beautiful stuff. I particularly liked the piano shots with all the dead space. Absolutely stunning.
Cheers Howie
I very much enjoy your photography. Am awaiting the opportunity (shortly) to get out to some water and try my hand at the technique I've learned from you. Greetings from New Hampshire, USA, and all the best to you.
Your work inspires me. TY
Agree with you. My favorite as well.
Beautiful piece of art photography. Amazing long exposure photography.
Stunning images.
Fine art is something that catches your eye and hold's you in free fall for as long as you like.
Your enthusiasm shines right through. No faking that! Beautiful photos as well.
Good job. Some very nice images. I tend to agree with you on your fine art description.
You captured some amazing art
"The Dream Line Photographer". Each time I see one of your videos with "fine art", Gary you have blurred something to accentuate the main subject. The question "what is art?" has many answers. In school art in the general meaning was defined as "the physical manifestation of an idea". We can include digital images in "physical" at least in the shape of prints. Then "fine art"!? Fine in what sense - sophisticated, classic, over class, hand made, subtle, full of fine details, punishment? or is it - as I would describe your images from that category - dreamlike scenes from an etheric world. I like them. They are expressive and quiet.
Superb as always, Gary ⭐️👍
Great pics love them
This is a great tutorial on Fi' Nart photography
Gary, I realy enjoyed your video! I was looking at Fine Art and what is it excately. Amazing shots. And the results are amazing. My favorite black and white at the end. I AM looking forward to swe more videos of yours:-) Greetings from Spain.
Thank you
Some great shots there Gary. Well done!
J'adore ta façon de présenter tes réalisations photo. Merci
Great video, enjoyed the vlog and the images are superb 👍🏻
Being passionate about what you do, that's the spirit!
Love your work! Very inspirational!!
Nice crisp clean simple shots Gary that has impact. Keep safe and well.
Thanks 👍 you too xx
Simply superb!!!
Thanks Gary, great videos! Worthy for your own TV show!
Nice to see you shooting in Dovercourt East Anglia opposite from where the TV show Hi De Hi was filmed, just 20 minutes up the coast from my home town. The famous wooden lighthouses of Dovercourt, love the photos far better than anything I could achieve and I have tried, Last One being my favourite.👍
So nice to see you out and about again Gary ,showing us what achievable with a bit of instruction from yourself. Stay safe.
Great Video, Gary! Makes me want to try my hand in trying something different. I mainly do Waterfall and Bird Photography. But I think I want to expand my reach a little.
I don't think that there is a finer photographic channel on UA-cam. Always informative, interesting and well presented from someone who doesn't take himself too seriously. But the one thing that sets you apart from so many others is the sheer quality of your images. Another thoroughly enjoyable video, as have been the interview ones.
Very kind words indeed. Thank you Neil 👍👍
I like how you show examples what is considered fine art. Although I think what it makes fine art is having photography skills and the basics in order to create photographs to be considered fine art.
Great shots. Love your videos, Gary.
I do believe you need that 15 stop filter. Think about it. You use a 10 stop, add a 3 stop Grad. Then cut more light by going to f/16. You've mentioned several times that your rig runs best at f/11.
That tells me that you need a 15 stopper.
You've got me planning a 2-1/2 hour trip to what we, in Ohio, call the North Coast. That would be Lake Erie. It has a surf, several miles-long beaches, full size ships, can't see across it. Looks and acts like an ocean, except it's fresh water. When the weather is right, there will be warnings. There will be 6 to10 foot swells, or more. I know a few who like going out on that, but not me. I'm a land-lubber.
Keep up the good life, you inspire me.
Charlie
Sounds like you’ve got it all planned out. I’m not jealous at all 😂😂
Have a good one 👍
great video and beautiful images .bravo from Italy
Great vlog Gary, nice work.
Great set of images. I feel fine art photography is any photograph that has the unique qualities that the photographer wants to show. They are not snapshots or accidents but images that really show the intent and style of the photographer.
I love how you are actually using filters and not photoshopping the crap out of the image and still saying it’s photography.
I've never looked at reality through a filter personally, nor did my eyes ever do a long exposure. Filters and long exposures are as artificial as Photoshop. It's just a practice that is more traditional and rooted in the history of photography while photoshop isn't (yet). But photography is evolving. The computer is now part of the tool chain just as filter are. They are just at opposite ends of it, but it's the same idea.
LIke the way you take us through your thought process as you compose these stunning images - well done and keep up the good work
Many thanks!
Awesome photography!
Thanks a lot!Very kind, thank you
Good human, thank you for sharing your knowledge with the masses. God bless you.

So wonderful wish I could learn that technique...thumbs up Gary..👍👍👍
You can do it!
Excellent video Gary. I never get tired of long exposure videos. I learn something in every one of them.
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome Gary...love this genre of photography too 👍
Thanks 👍
Great video Gary beena long time lurker without commenting and just come across the Photonerds podcast as well which imho is ths best photography (sometimes that is) podcast. Keep it up.
Cool, thanks. Cheers Graham xx
Fine art and black and white fit perfectly together. Your fine art with the blue was very stunning
Great work - really enjoy your videos!
Thank you again xx
Great video Gary as always. If you ever happen to be in Poland, I would love to go for a shoot with you. Big fan.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Not sure who said that
It's a great quote either way. Cheers 👍👍
Brilliant stuff
Cheers Gary
Nice to see you back out and about Gary. Beautiful images. My fave? I have to pick one? I can't they are all so good.
The shot at 12:10 is my favourite, I just love the way the sky blends into the sea.
One of mine too Geoff. I uploaded it to Instagram an hour or so ago :)
This and the last one are my favorites too. But I dont like the gravel forground on the 12:10 picture. The stones are to sharp, it doesnt fit the mystic / silky theme of the rest of the image in my opinion
Hey, the last picture ist the best, greetings from germany.
All the enthusiasm that you convey is so inspiring, thanks!
Last image is the best, I love the simplicity of the image and in my opinion it is fine art
another great video gary ..looks like a great location ...love your fine art work big man
Many thanks. Cheers Tam 👍👍
not only did you shoot finely, the way you present them in the video is top notch. im a fan of your work
Cheers Johnny
one definition of art is: 'art is somewhere between the real and the imaginary'. Your starting point from the point of view of the eye was 'real' but the final images could never be 'seen' as a live view, so this is where the camera and lens has added the 'imaginary' dimension. So given that definition, its art.
Yes, I agree. It’s fine art when you create an image that is not seen in the real world. It can be part real and part imaginary.
That is definitely "fine art" in my book my friend, excellent images, thanks for sharing and greetings a fellow photographer from this small rural town somewhere in Mexico!
Many thanks 👍👍
I like how you take such simple subject matter and create such amazing photos.. Gets one thinking about possibilities of subject that are overlooked. Great video Gary.
Cheers for saying David. Thanks
you are very lucky that you are pursuing your passion....I am amazed
Excellent story! Love your monotone photography!Thank you!
Very nice, colours are beautiful. Fine Art B&W are also quality
Gary.. love watching ur vids from far of Mumbai, India.. so informative, clear & to the point.. with that touch of humor.. cheers, Vernon Alvares.
Enjoyed this Volg very much. Always enjoy your work.
Great pictures and video Garry.
Art is clearly what you have produced. You've taken an already captivating structure and produced different interpretations of it and it's coastal environment. The photographs are interesting and pleasurable.. So there is your impact..!! Also the people who designed and built the lighthouse were (in my view) artists also.. Art and artists are winning all the way..!!!
It's definitely art - you've made a seascape with the lighthouse look like it's a space ship on Neptune. Absolutely stunning - agree with your choice of favourite image - just awesome.
Spaceship on Neptune? Are you always so pretentious?
What a treat to the eye ! Absolute joy ! Great video Mr Gough! I would not concern myself with an exact wordy definition be it fine art or not it is certainly Art by full definition of the word!
Many thanks! Cheers Robby 👍👍
Fine art is such a mystery at times, but I accept your version of it and I thought you explained it quite well, thank you!
Great photos Gary! It's a beautiful technique to practice
Many thanks
all shots are awesome...
Great shots Gary. I agree, Fine Art Photography is generally minimalism for the most part in any genre.
Yep I'm going to love this, cheers Gary. Re art, luckily for all of us, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, surely the viewer has the exclusive right to decide if something is art, at least for them! Hope you're keeping well.
Hi Gary, great video and great place. I agree with your choice. Cheers from Chile
Thanks 👍
