I think it's also being up on stage with them. If you read some of his interviews it kind of comes across like he just considered himself an ascended fan who got to play with his heroes.
I don’t think these guys realized they made some of the best music of all time. So many legends playing together at one time. Wish I could have seen it!
10 year-old daughter: "Dad, if you had a time machine where would you go?" Me: 1990 to see the Highwaymen for the American Outlaws show at the Nassau Coliseum.
Epic. Big River is probably Johnny Cash's best song and this is possibly the Highwaymen's finest performance. Charisma and star quality, these outlaws had everything, r.i.p. JR and Waylon
Agree. In the closing of this concert DVD (its a must watch btw), Kris Kristofferson says this is one of the best country songs ever written - and i agree. The lyrics are sheer poetry and combined with the insisting travelling rythm, it makes up a legendary piece of work.
If I could pick one concert of all concerts ever played, this would be my choice. The four Kings together. We will never have four giants like these guys anymore.. I love them all and I could listen to there music every second of the day.. Thank God we still have Kris and Willie. RIP Waylon and Johnny..
It's sad we will never be able to see people like Johnny, Elvis, Waylon etc in person like our parents and their parents may have. But this will have to do.
We got to see them on this tour, but it was in Niagara Falls. I wasn't sure whether they were going to do their individual songs, but as soon as Waylon and Willie broke into Mamas Don't Let Your Babies, I knew it was going to be a once in a lifetime concert. They didn't disappoint. Johnny's voice was cracking throughout the show but he did his best. My then GF wasn't a C and W fan, but she loved the show. You don't need to be a country fan to love them.
Bless each and every one of these men. Their lives were so different and yet there life-stories harmonized. They carried me through some tough times........ and they still do. And Willie is still with us. Thank you, Thank you.
I taught the weepin' willow how to cry, cry, cry And I showed the clouds how to cover up a clear blue sky And the tears I cried for that woman, are gonna flood you, big river And I'm gonna sit right here until I die [Willie Nelson] I met her accidentally in St. Paul Minnesota, And it tore me up every time I heard her drawl, southern drawl Then I heard my dream went back downstream cavortin' in Davenport, And I followed you, big river, when she called. [Kris Kristofferson] Oh she took me to St. Louis later on, down the river A freighter said, "She's been here, but she's gone, boy, she's gone" And I found her trail in Memphis, but she just walked up the block. When I left it was rainin' so nobody saw me cry. Big river, why she doin' me this way? [Johnny Cash, lead and all the others, harmony] Now won't you batter down by Baton Rouge, River Queen, roll it on Take that woman on down to New Orleans, New Orleans Go on, I've had enough; dump my blues down in the gulf She loves you, big river, more than me [Nelson, 1st line; Kristofferson, 2nd line; Jennings, 3rd line; Cash 4th line] I taught the weepin' willow how to cry, cry, cry And I showed the clouds how to cover up a clear blue sky And the tears I cried for that woman, are gonna flood you, big river And I'm gonna sit right here until I die

So much of the good and bad times, in the 70's and 80's coincide with Kris' lyrics, that I am overjoyed to hear him sing any of his songs anytime! Gotta' love the talent and heart of this man. I always will!
And the harmonica player should be given several awards!
Mikey Raphael, with Willie's band for many years ( or so I've read).
He is awesome with the train whistle sound ❤
He killed that
Exactly
@@23JosileeBeen with Willie for over 43 years! Mickey is fantastic ❤❤
People who dislike this don't have a clue what good music is.
Don't mind them enjoy!
Don't forget Reggie Young! the great guitarist in the back, is one of the stars in this concert.
Reggie was an absolute legend!! 🤟
His skills can never be appreciated enough
He never has missed a note.
I was hoping I wasn't the only one familiar with Reggie. Got his start with Buddy Holly. So did Waylon really.
Reggie probably played on more great recordings than any man alive.
Kris has got to be one of the most simultaneously charismatic and humble men ever
I love how Kris can’t stop smiling. They all knew how legendary they were.
I think it's also being up on stage with them. If you read some of his interviews it kind of comes across like he just considered himself an ascended fan who got to play with his heroes.
marajawana might of had something to do with it 👀 especially in Willie's and Johnny's expressions lmao all legends on stage no way they're sober 😂
Not really I think it's more just because he's enjoying playing music with his friends and making so many people happy at the same time
He cannot believe he made it into a band....
@@alexanderbrown8921 True he definitely considered himself a fan and it shows even though he is a great artist in his own right.
Super für die Ewigkeit .
Pure American gold, silver, platinum diamonds!!!
I'm the first Aboriginal to say this song is good 👍👍
And I do know why !
Yes!!! The backup band is very amazing, great musician that made this show great!!!
I don’t think these guys realized they made some of the best music of all time. So many legends playing together at one time. Wish I could have seen it!
I’m pretty sure they were very aware. Hence why they made a band together
@@deezytalk2600 I don't think they could fully understand. No one could, it ages as wine.
Literally the four most known outlaw country singers and they dont know how good they are???
Could listen to it from morn till night
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This has to be one of the best concert of all time, Totally one of the most important. Love this whole show
PartyPatTV Absolutely, I’m sorry I missed them .
Agreed. All 4 are so talented, sounds like a studio album.
Best concert I never went to. Still regret missing it.

Rest in Peace Kris Kristofferson. We all love you and miss you, we lost the Pilot, the Dam Builder, and now the Sailor, only the Highwayman remains.

The Greatest group of All Time
Just love how they each take a turn singing along
It shows the true friendship that these guys all have with each other
Thanks for the HARMONICA 👏❤️
They are just having SO MUCH FUN ...!

There will be never be another concert legends like this ever again. Chris and Willer are sadly the only ones left.
Can't find guys like these boys anymore!
Reggie Young on the guitar and the harmonica player were just super 🎉
The guy on harmonica is Mickey Raphael
He is amazing. One of the best concerts ever.
He has also played with the likes of Elton John, Merle Haggard, Snoop dogg and more!!!

Good question, Daughter. Excellent reply Dad.
So basically..before you were born dear.

LONG LIVE THE HIGHWAYMEN❤
Being 32 and finding Mr. Cash then following his lead to this group, I missed out on the best era of music. 1960’s - 1990’s.
It's sad we will never be able to see people like Johnny, Elvis, Waylon etc in person like our parents and their parents may have. But this will have to do.
As if the pure talent in this group isn't enough, that harmonica player is the icing on the cake!
dude I was saying this one of the best harmonica solo I seen
The guy is Mickey Raphael
@@TheMattBuckner Yea, he's been with Willie Nelson what, 50 years?

Mount Rushmore of country music for sure !!

Big River a classic ,made for the Highwaymen .
No, it was written in 50ties by John R CASH. In those times nobody thought at all of the HIGHWAYMEN. / CD

I saw Waylon six times, Cash once. Never got to see Willie or Kris. Waylon put on one helluva show.

Reggie captures the Country music spirit perfectly. Resonates beautifully on that geeetar
And don't forget the harmonica player 😮 to he finishing touch to a great performance
