Ghost Riders (In the Sky) - Willie Nelson & Johnny Cash

- An old cowboy went riding out one dark and windy day
Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way
When all at once a mighty herd of red eyed cows he saw
A-plowing through the ragged sky and up the cloudy draw
Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel
Their horns were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky
For he saw the Riders coming hard and he heard their mournful cry
Yippie yi Ohhhhh
Yippie yi yaaaaay
Ghost Riders in the sky
Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat
He's riding hard to catch that herd, but he ain't caught 'em yet
'Cause they've got to ride forever on that range up in the sky
On horses snorting fire
As they ride on hear their cry
As the riders loped on by him he heard one call his name
If you want to save your soul from Hell a-riding on our range
Then cowboy change your ways today or with us you will ride
Trying to catch the Devil's herd, across these endless skies
Yippie yi Ohhhhh
Yippie yi Yaaaaay
Ghost Riders in the sky
Ghost Riders in the sky
Ghost Riders in the sky
If UA-cam is redeemable despite its many faults and sins, it's mostly because we can find treasures like this on it.

Your Fan for Life! Tom M.
They performed together with Waylon Jennings and Chris Kristofferson, in a group they called “The Highwaymen”. Epic.
I also came here as my dad recently passed this weekend, and he watched westerns all day everyday and loved his country music. Miss my dad and best friend. 5/25/2024.
Hey kid , your fad is with you now...yes he is 😮
Monique...If he shared his love of music with you, he was a good man. I wish you good memories, acceptance, and peace. MM
Two of my favorite singers and one of my favorite songs. Perfect combo!
I played this song at my dad's recent funeral. He was a great cowboy and I will miss him forever. Reunited with mum who called for you. Have fun cowboy. Love your son Glenn

Hey may God bless your Dad and mum and may them always be happy, free and roaming the country!

You got that right
@ R.I,P Johnny😪😪😔🖤💔💔
Watch out for Ghost Riders on the Sky.
❤ This one.
Einer meiner Meinun5nach neben Truble Man die geilsten Songs, welche die Menscheit bŕaaucht.
Surprised I remembered all the words from my cildnood.Great song.Stays with you.
I played this and “Highwayman” to my 8-14 nephews a week ago. They had never heard of Willie or Johnny. Now all I hear is Cash and Nelson songs on their devices.
Two legends. Doesn't get any better than that.
Cash was a rare talent, and that's an understatement. He garnered respect not only from fellow country music artists, but from artists of every genre. He was the real deal, and he didn't change his music to fit the times... yet it always fit. Now... you can say the same thing about Willie, but I'm not gonna write it twice!
Bob Dylan said that John was like the North star you could sail your ship by him
Yep Mr Smith totally agree with you. 🤘
@Cleric Jonathan Pop Naff Love
Ok
And he could sing anything!
Umm he was originally trying to produce a Christian sound. He did change for the times.
This is the mtv unplugged version my life was missing. Bless these giants.
Hey how are you doing?
Jonny Cash and Willie Nelson are true legends! We miss you Jonny Cash!

Hello Bryan 👋👋 How are you doing and how's the weather over there ?
This was a popular song on the radio when I was a kid. We were living in Nebraska without electricity or running water at the time and I was allowed a couple of hours each day to listen to an old, battery-powered radio and I always hoped they'd play this song.
Stay after it, pops.
Making me think of my Dad up there somewhere riding in the sky, he loved both these guys just as much as I do xx

I am lady with a passion for classical music, but great music is great, no matter what kind. This is for me to say how much I love listening these two cowboys singing💕
Hello severina

Music becomes a classic not because of it's genre, but because of it's relevance to future generations.

Hello Ana

I boo-Booed, I thought Ghost Riders was written in 1946, turns out it was finished in 1948. Recording of turned out in 1949. Burl Ives did one in 1949. Short while before I was born. To this song is one of the best ever written. I was so interged about Stan Jones, I went on Amazon, got a book about him, very interesting man. Got a CD of over 30 Artist singing Ghost Riders in The Sky. Even Tom Jones sang this song on a 1960s Country Album, he did. Song has got a great history. Done by so many, over 100, great singers. 👍This is based on a 1920s Legend by a man Capp Watts, in southern Arizona, near Mexico Border..Stan Jones was a boy when Capp Watts told him the Ghost Riders. Capp Watts died in 1932. When Stan Jones was 18 riding in Sulphur Springs Valley, Big Thunderstorm and Stan Jones visualized these Ghost Riders chasing these Red Eyed Cows in the Clouds. In 1946 Stan Jones started Writing Ghost Riders in the Sky finished it in 1948. On his sheet music he Wrote Riders in the Sky (A Cowboy Legend). The Legend of Ghost Riders started in Texas in 1889, based, on a factial Legend. There are 2 Utube Videos, about what happened in 1889, one i read today. A very tragic story. But what Legends, are made of. 😢😊🐎🐂🐴🤗🥰💕❤💕
Awesome 👏
They have a soulful voice!
This is my favorite song 🎶 so tell me are you a fan of Willie & Johnny
We are in a time machine here. Some comments are 7 years old, some are a week or two. But they are all present.

Me too. There's something about this masterpiece. The images it conjures up...

I had this song on a sheet of music some years ago and it was written by Sam Jones. I’ve always loved it. Haunting to say the least.
I do not know about australia but in the usa it is much better to get goosebumps than chickenpox!!❤😂
This is pure entertainment, nothing can touch it.

Just remember your Dad will always be with you God bless you
Each presentation it’s unique! Two golden musical world legendary singers.👏👏👏
Thumbs up at "hi, I'm Johnny Cash."
It says a lot about someone so big that people pay just to see him and he introduces himself.
My kid was at a wrestling camp with a gold medalist and she introduced herself rather than be like "you know who I am. I'm the best in the world."
two of my musical heroes playing one of my favorite songs, thanks
this is just very calming and soothing to listen to. omg, johnny and willie together are a force to be reckoned with. love it.
❤
I can't express to anyone how much I miss these guys. I'm an unlikely country/western enthusiast, as I made my living in the grand opera (not to be confused with the Grand Ole Opry!), but I've been a country music lover since I was a young guy. Heck, I wanted to BE Johnny Cash. I have all of his albums in old-fashioned record format. Thanks for the video!
I've always enjoyed this song. Even better by two legendary artists.
I have been listening to Johnny Cash AND Willie Nelson when I was 18 until now, I can bet Johnny Cash AND Willie Nelson remain the best ever.

I just can't get enough of Willie and Johnny doing this together. Between their vocals and that awesome guitar, it's mesmerizing.......... Love 'em both.
I don't know - - I sure liked them as part of The Highwaymen!

I'm with you...... It's often said nowadays BUT they just don't make 'em like these 'ol boys anymore. We are fortunate to have been able to enjoy them in person. I saw Willie a couple of years ago in concert and he still put on a great show.

I saw Johnny and June twice in concert and Willie once, too.... loved each concert... Stage went dark as Johnny came out... The spotlight came on the man in black and he said, "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" and started singing...no intermission... a 2 hr. concert.
Man you are so lucky.
Hello Patty 👋👋 How are you doing and how's the weather over there ?
TRUELEY AMAZING VOICES , IRREPLACEABLE TO THE WORLD .!!!
Frankie Laines version was good but nowhere near as good as this
Love it. Willie and his guitar are great but no one can match Johnny Cash's vocal. Especially with songs like this one.
Willie Nelson's voice and guitar skills are sublime with a certain sadness - I am a fan from east Africa
I had the pleasure of meeting Johnny Cash & his sweet wife June back some 29yrs ago in Pendleton, Or. What a pleasant couple they were & I feel very blessed to have shaken their hands! God Bless them both as they rest now, in peace!

we'll still have kristofferson hopefully
Willie's son, Lukas sounds so much like him, it's spooky.
Hey y’all, Willie is still very much alive
There are still good musicians. They are just mostly obscure. These guys benefited from the Folk Revival back in the 1960s. No-one wants folk music today, but that doesn't mean there aren't many very excellent, unheard of bands doing wonderful stuff.
Don't start throwing dirt on his coffin just yet.
TWO GREAT PERFORMERS WHOSE TALENTS REMAIN SUPREME AND WILL NEVER BE SURPASSED!

Holy corn!!! I don't know how I stumbled on this song but it is just as good if not better then when Johnny sings it alone. I can't stop listening to it!
Truely a golden classic, man I love it.
could you imagine sitting in the crowd just watching these 2 sit and talk and play the guitar just being who they are.
During Army primary flight school in 1970 I joined the W.O.C (Warrant Officer Candidate) choir. This was on our playlist when we performed at the Palo Pinto, TX old folks home. I will never forget the reaction to this as we sang. Everything from cheers to tears! Next stop Vietnam. Now I'm 70, thankfully not in a similar home in Wyoming.

Willie, Johnny, Merle, Hank, Patsy.....the greatest...Willie and Johnny are legends
Hi Kathy
Man I'm pretty damn sure this song was written well before I was even born in 1983 but how timeless and masterful this piece is , nobody can ever replace Willie or Johnny, two of old school country's best country story tellers/performers to ever life. This song gives me chills and makes my hair stand up when I listen to it, there aren't many songs I sing the lyrics along to but this is definately one of them.
Eric Drisgula the song is at least 20 years older than you.
I've got a 78 rpm version from the early 1950s .by Vaughn Meador .... (That is a type of record, you know, that vinyl disc you spin on a phonograph at 78 rpm.).lol.
U watch, Willie lived harder than almost any of them & will outlive them all & is currently touring performing 300 dates a yr!! Sammy Hagar (who is 72 & jus had a b-day) jus interviewed Willie & was in awe of him, on Sammys " rockin across 🇺🇸" segment! I went2 th Beale St. Music festival bout 13-14 yrs ago & I chose 2 watch Willie I/o some of my fav rock acts who were performing, oddly enough @ th same time on different stages! ( there was like 7stages in a row along th Mississippi River & u jus picked who u wanted2 watch) I thought I may nvr get2 see him again as old as he's getting! Man, do I feel stupid, cause that was 14 or so yrs ago & now I'm old & Willie still kickin it as always! Oh & he did duets with Sheryl Crow, who I luv. Moral of th story is, ' Only GOD says when we're done!!!" 😅 much ❤ 2 all u , keep🎸🎶
These two are so damn casual. Just like they were on a couch at home, playing for fun. FANTASTIC!!!
Johnny Cash lives on because every time i see a man dressed in black i see Mr. JOHNNY Cash
This is a song that takes me back to memories, not only the singers but of times with grandparents and so many that looked up to when younger.
Gee wizz oh joy! Thank you guy's.wonders.
Johnny Willy...and TRIGGER....Willie can play....because he does so much the finger holes in Trig have been repaired,,,many times. Three legends on that stage.
Their talent is obvious and unmistakable, their friendship and respect for one another palpable. A gift to us all.
Still gives me chills @ my spine
Wow,r souls will be in the sky, as we continue with our lives and too give ❤️ that ride forever here ,now
Back in Texas from Jersey for the first time since I was 12. I'm 27. Take a deep breath and smell the air. Air with scents that made me forget my life in the city in an *instant* .
Few story tellers are as good or as interesting as these two, take a simple message and make it TIMELESS. A story of what a successful society is made of, character, conscience and civility, along with the consequences of not following natural law. great song.
Don't get high caliber musicians like that nowadays, God bless their souls RIP
Amen !!!
Williey is till with us, use God.
Love the way these two gentlemen harmonize
My grandfather was a cowboy before WWI, he taught this song to my Dad who sang it to us kids as he milked the cows by hand. At 93 Dad is still on that farm and can still sing this.
River Rat Ranger and I can picture that , put a smile on the dial , love it , happy days to you yours and grandad 👍
Thx for sharing...how neat. The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom
Interesting as the song wasntvwritten until 1949
Pay close attention young people. In this day and time you are witnessing the passing of the old style Cowboys. The men who knew the value of dedication and hard work. Men who would help their fellow human and allow them to keep their dignity. Men who earned respect of their peers and knew when to return that respect. Men who cared for children. Men who would stand for integrity. Men who respected women. They are a dying breed and our nation is all the poorer for it.
Thank you Willie, Johnny, Roy, and all the others who have given us great music and helped us remember who are and were true cowboys.
True Rhonda. But the pendulum swings. It won't happen in my short time left on earth but the day will come when a return to the old values comes about. Sadly much misery will happen before then, largely due to the contempt with which strong moral and ethical values are held. But people will eventually see what the "me" generation has wrought, and the struggle to return to where we started will commence.
Fantastic musicians, their personal lives does not make them ideal role models.
Two of worlds greatest, forever. Sincerely yours, Bobbie Coles from Silver Spring,Maryland.
Cash was amazing and never be touched even by the delay of the devil itself ❤
