Amazing to finally see someone drive a powerful modified car and actually shift gears like a normal person. You can drive like that for 150.000 miles, take the transmission apart and find no serious wear or damage. Like my gearbox guy says: "you can see that the person who drove this had the proper respect for the material."

@@barneymiller7894 yeah seeing it, I could tell it followed an island drag type theme... More over I just haven't seen them, while Javier admitted it was his very first 86 ever lol.

👍👍😎 Very good video and I'm so proud to see coverage of one of our local OG's. Those that know "Chino".. real good and humble dude. The video does this car no justice.. have to see it in person!! Great work TRC Crew for bringing the content!!
I am pretty sure that this fellow "Fiebru" from the 80s has too many good memories from the drag strip. I us to have one back in those days. But a thug decided to carjack me and lost my Twin Cam. I never ever manage to get another. To see you here with all that knowledge makes me try to go for another one. I still miss that happiness of the 80s. Thank you.
the fact that a stock 4age transmission can bear the load of 10000 RPM is nothing short of legendary and a big achievement made by the japanese engineers who worked on this car way back when
It's all needle bearings. Super easy to work on. There are at least two other gear-sets for them as well. I had a close-ratio that was great for canyons in California. Less angle in the teeth so it has a nice whine, particularly when running thin lube. They also made a straight-cut set; not sure if it was dog-based.
Rpm is not the weakness of a transmission, torque is. Most transmissions can run high rpm adequately. The t50 on these explode around 300ft lbs of torque.
@@oneplumpboi5317 lets just say money shifting at 10000 RPM doesnt preserve the transmission or the engine and im intrested in what clutch they used because a stock 4age one sure as hell wont work with a turbo that big

Man this car is what I wish I could do with my 86 GTS project. I don't have the money to build it right now though so ill probably end up selling it since its just sitting being neglected at this point and someone else could bring it back to life even though I know they're only going up in value as time goes by.
Seriously, when I lived in Brandon, Florida I used to go fishing on the weekends at Seabreeze Restaurant and every night on the weekends there'd be street racing going on until the cops would bust it up. Anyway, the Hispanic (sorry guys, not a comment on race, I just never asked them where they were from) guys always had some really sick old Toyotas and I remember one in particular that was a turbo 4AGE AE86 in a deep burgundy on bags with Work wheels and that thing was FAST. I'm sure it wasn't on this car's level, but that's one of the first cars I thought about when I read the title.
I'm very surprised your box and rearend are stock. My T50 broke at 400HP and the 'stock' TRD diff shattered after I put in the W58. Now I have Supra box R154 and Modception rearend and still holding the 7-rib at 450.
Damn, 45 lbs of boost!? I still have my built B series EJ8 1997 Civic coupe that makes 709 whp at 29 psi on a GTS3582 turbo on E85 and I really need to get everything up to par and get a new set of slicks for it so I can finally take it to the track. Every time I take it to the track I have something stupid happen, like TPS or alternator issues. It's really disheartening to work my fingers to the bone on it to get tripped up by something stupid like that.
