From its cast hoops of indestructible aluminum bronze to its seamless shell of expressive bell bronze, the DW True Cast snare drum delivers the utmost in musicality, dynamic range, and power. The DW True Cast snare drum shell boasts a 3mm-5mm internally concave design with enlarged top and bottom to mimic the focus and support of reinforcement rings. The result is a one-of-a-kind response that must be experienced to be believed; ghost notes come across with impressive note separation, while rimshots cut through a mix like a shotgun blast. The DW True Cast snare drum has a machined brass snare throw off and butt plate to provide great sensitivity and quiet performance, while raw tension rods, shell screws, and badges left to patina will reward collectors and players with an heirloom look over time.

Just wow 😍 sounds great, looks awesome, and it's perfect for a workout! Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to more drool-worthy drums!
What number did you get?
thanks for changes the heads a few times, it really shows that the sound of your snare can be very changed by a $30 over the initial thousands for a shell material.
4K would buy a lot of Ludwig snares.
Paul Kennedy 8*14 brass snare by Dallas drums far best snare in the world and only like 750$
Yeah, lol. Love this snare, but I think they should lower the price to like $1000-$2000, because other companies sell snares like this for a lower price.
@@nickavenoso7851 They should, but they won't because they're DW
Nick's always the consummate player. This exceptional snare drum reminds me of Tama's epic 80's bell brass and the Gretsch Bell Brass Snare Drum. Well done Nick!
I think what's cool, is the fact that "Bell Bronze" is exactly the same alloy that was used in the Tama "Bell Brass" snares. They never were brass. Fun fact!
Finally, someone has a UA-cam vid of this drum
It’s not bad but 4K ?
Is it true ?
My N&C Zildjian cast special alloy sounds much better and it’s a bit cheaper
Dude Nick is just a great drummer. It doesn't hurt that he's playing a 2k snare but Nick makes'em all sound great!
Ok so 2k was a ridiculous understatement!! Try 6k!!!
Not all Chevys are the Corvette L88 Coupe but for some reason so many people think that DW only offers super expensive drums. I have their Design series and PDP which are amazing sounding and fairly priced.
Nobody is talking about how they released a PDP bell bronze at namm this year. For everyone bitching about price, congrats. They thought of you too. You were too busy giving them shit for creating a legendary timeless instrument to notice. Clearly this wasn't made for that crowd, and clearly there is a market for it, as all 75 of these are already sold.
$4000 for something that you can have made for yourself for $800 from John Holt at Duluth Brass Manufacturing. Realistically he probably cast these shels and hoops for DW.
That's exactly what I commented at the top. I just sent in for a quote on a 14x8 this morning.
@@TempoDrift1480 received mine last Monday .4mm no rerings with the cast hoops beautiful and John is a awesome fella .
@@01dukester You got lucky. John stopped taking shell orders early this year. I contacted him in June and he wasn't sure he would continue taking shell orders. He didn't make me a shell but he did make me a set of Aluma Bronze hoops and they're top quality. I'm ordering a second pair soon.
These cast bronze shells are the pinnacle of snare drum construction. If you can't get an original Tama at least there are places that you can order the shell and hoops or order a complete drum from the various companies that now offer these drums. And they're all less expensive than these limited DW models.
$4,000.
This is why I never buy anything from DW. Unreasonable prices for drums.
It's a shame aswell it sounds incredible
DW literally created a Tama and Sonor bell bronze snare killer. Those all go for $4-6k and they're almost 40 years old. This snare is only going to appreciate in value.
Mitch Zimmerman I agree Mitch. The only thing that I can compare it to was the Paiste “ Spirit of 2002 “. To even find one is damn near impossible and if you do, it’s gonna run you $8k and up.... this thing is built like nothing I have ever seen. Now, for the good news ???? I actually got really lucky and through an odd series of events, I have a deposit on a 6.5/14 ..... TRUTH.... I am aware of one thing though ; I should have my head examined for even wanting one of these much less actually buying it - which I am....
I believe and talked to a higher up DW exec and he said they’re starting to ship out about now as I am replying to you... can’t wait to open that case and lay eyes on this instrument. I also leaned that out of 50- 6.5 and 25 8.0 , only 12 were slated for the US.... that’s in itself is incredible. I’m 61 years old now, not a young cat any longer but I sure hope to have many more years of playing this beautiful beast. ~~~~ if you’d like I’ll get back to ya when I get it..... I feel very very fortunate to get my hands on one. Years ago, I could have had my hands on that Paiste 2002.... I passed it up... it was a lot of money to fork up then, just as this is now.... Not gonna pass THIS OPPORTUNITY UP THIS TIME.... you blame me ? ? I have already thought about one day I’ll have to will it to someone - as of right now, not one of the Youngblood relatives have stepped up and showed any drumming interest..??? I’m going to enjoy it while I can though....
@@jimmyreid235 Did you get it already? You should definitely post a video playing it! Only in my dreams I could afford that monster.
It’s cool for you guys to do some head comparison, great informative vid!
Definitely a stunner !
4,000 is just ridiculous. I would rather pay half that and get the Tama bell brass.
If you see a vintage Tama BB 14x6.5 below $4000 for sale, let me know...
Yeah , let me know too.
All Bell Brass snares are expensive 😂 But, TAMA BB are almost as much as this snare, because that snare is very very rare.
Just get an Oriollo, you even get to choose shell size and thickness, even material for half the price.
Let’s spend $4k on a drum only to put a Powerstroke or ST Dry head on it to make it sound like cardboard.
Rich Boshart exactly why I am not a fan of super thick heads like Emperor X. It completely robs the drum of any unique tonal characteristics and makes them all sound like dead wood. Brass snares sound best with single ply heads in my opinion.
as if the snare didn´t sound damn choked already with the first head... total NONSENSE
Wow that is beautiful, I can only wish to have something that nice, to go with my performance kit!
you can . for cheaper than your kit .
Great drum..a bit too rich for my pocketbook but these cast bronze/cast brass shell snare drums always have intrigued me. Seems to me Sonor made some cast bronze shell snare drums that weighed like 20 pounds or something. Heard Bobby Rock play one at a drum clinic many years ago the thing was a cannon.
Great video as always - kudos Nick and Sweetwater! What are the specifics on those cymbals? They sound great!
Four grand for a snare drum??? I'll pass.

Badass beautifully made and sounding 👂🏻 Snare Drum 🥁 DW! I know they are not easy to make, but why not keep this killer Snare Drum in your lineup? $4,000, ouch! But if drummers want to pay 💸 for it just make it to special order please! Nice and fun 🏋🏻♂️ video Nick. 👍🏻
Dont be scared to take it to the road a gig or studio hummm... yeah right....
Hi Nick, I preferred it with the last head, the Aquarian 2, I believe. I know this is subjective and nothing wrong with the drum but I prefer the sound of the Ludwig Black Beauty. I guess I’ve just been playing them too long. If the $4 grand price is correct, I would probably have Adrian Kerchler make me one of his but again, I’m partial to brass and the Black Beauty. Great video and I’m sure it’s a great drum if it’s a DW.
Nick, you're the Best! I appreciate you taking the time and effort to change and experiment with all the different heads from differing manufacturers. They were ALL Good for various reasons. It was tough to decide, but your last selection from Aquarian is for me! So, which one did you get for Christmas St. Nick..... Thanks and Christmas Blessings!!!
Anything for a sale Mate, He would take you to dinner if he knew you were a buyer.
Gretsch Bell Brass is the best bargain.
you keep calling it bell brass but its bronze..
It's literally the same metal as the Tama bell brass that is why and he knows it .100 %
those complaining about price, just get a black beauty if you want a top of the line snare. these sort of drums are for people that know its going to be the last snare they ever buy..but want something collectible as well as playable. the black beauty will sound just as good. this drum is solid bronze, n has a really tight sound. not many overtones. but ludwig makes a variety of set ups to their black beauties that control over tones... the lugs are all machined though, which is where a lot of the price is coming from. its not a necessity, but for the prestige. its really nice to think of hand turned metal on drums again...but that labor is expensive, even if they use cnc now... especially to the people that machine metal, and have lathed brass its a very nice touch. the turret lugs from standard drums aren't as high tolerance. the lugs and bolts will all fit flawlessly on this. the rest of the price is the signature association with a professional drummer and the number of them made. do i think its worth 4,000$? no... buts its a snare i would like to have. dw's drums always start off very expensive and drop for a while after they are on the market. some go back up in price, others stay where they settle.
For the price I think I’ll buy a used 🚗 lol
Beautiful snare... wish I could afford one.
You can .
@@01dukester nope, sure can't
I'll wait for the DW 50th anniversary snare in a few years...
Yeah cause I'm sure you'll REALLY get your money out of that... I take it you're never studied with George Carlin...
Why does this sound like crap? This is the first time I’ve heard a cast bronze shell sound so lifeless...
The wires and heads are waaaaaayyyy too tight and it sounds like it's only close miced so all that nice full bronze sound is killed off
@@thomaskennydrums yes , in all Sweetwater videos drums are high tuned .
I loved the sound of this snare, but they always tune the snares and head so tight in Sweetwater. If you want to have a better sounding demonstration, listen to Danny Carey, because he plays one of these. He uses it the first clip, ua-cam.com/video/U4lhVsNQ8YA/v-deo.html
@@nickavenoso7851 Really? That looks more like a spirit of 2002 to me but i might be wrong!
@@KimFilppudrummer You may actually be right it’s kinda hard to tell though.
It's interesting to hear the comments. I play DW, but can't afford this snare & if I could not quite sure I would pay four grand for an ok sounding snare. Obviously they're selling more than just the sound.
I’m assuming you get that flight case Behind you with it? :-)
Bronze is my favourite metal snare, but very expensive.
Prefer using steel...so much cheaper and a very underrated sound.
Sounds very similar it the Tama SLP bronze , which is a fraction of the price..
For it's price you should get an insurance with it as a ,,gift"
Four thousand dollars? You could buy a tama bell brass for that, what a joke.
About damn time. Too bad it’s a limited run!
wow eh
The Aqarian head sounded the best...
Aquarian texture coated heads are my go to snare head. They just work!
What size ist the hi hat?
Nick, is the DW single ply a Remo embassador?
Nimble Wit Yes, except the DW heads (made by Remo) have a crimped collar rather than glued. Same sound as a regular Remo Ambassador though.
they will be lucky to sell them all - to me, this doesn't sound that good to warrant anywhere near this price. am I missing something here?
literally every other drum company: *makes expensive cast bronze snare*
people: *doesn't bat an eye*
DW: *makes expensive cast bronze snare*
people: "omg, DW is so overpriced, they're just gouging their customers at this point"
it has become very clear to me that the hate that DW gets, is nothing but a trend
It is Marked up 300% though
@@01dukester it's also no longer in production. It was a limited edition
I hope the new DW Slingerlands , will be a little more affordable..😳
Dw al-mond Lol 😉😁watch the Dw almond promotional video it was really neat🤓
Mom: Honey your dinner isn't all that hot, now come up and eat!
My dinner: 2:55
This price would buy a beautiful top name full drum kit...including other top bronze snares..
and shells made by Duluth at 600 a shell .don't get re rings or it will sound like this . for some reason the concave is choking the drum.
I have had time to test different things and am now convinced This drum is awesome and a few tricks can open it right up .
I disagree with the negative comments on the sound of the drum. I think this would be a great recording drum. It is premium priced, that's for sure, but I bet they sell every one they make. I have talked with Dave Elitch over the years and besides being a great player and teacher, he is one guy who really really knows a lot about the sounds of drums and is well informed - he has played them all and can speak intelligently about each and judge differences accurately. While I respect other's rights to have their own opinions and totally believe each drummer should be informed and work to define "their sound" in a purposeful way I am betting based on Dave's involvement in this project that this is going to be a great drum and I can't wait to get mine.
I also have some positive feedback on the format of the video itself. This is the first high quality snare video demo I have seen which shows the importance of head selection on the sound of the drum. You could argue that the head is a more important variable than the drum, but if you did this demo with a different drum you'd hear a completely different pallette.
I do miss hearing the sound of the drum at different tunings, it seemed pretty cranked up in all cases and I tend to like bell bronze 6.5's in the medium range to get the drum to breathe a bit more and hear that wonderful dry warmth you can get from that particular shell material.
I realize that to show all different tunings with many different heads is a combinatorial nightmare - so my suggestion would be to pick the head you like the best (I liked CS reverse power dot) and then show us low, medium and high tuning.
Nonetheless, a very informative high quality video.
Last thing I'll say is "trust your ears". When I get my drum I'll be sure to post it and tell you all what I think after hearing it. #mofoknowsdrums
Which drum metal shell for snare is the loudest?
Hello, Hector! The answer to your question depends on a lot of things. The dimension of the drum will certainly influence the volume, with deeper drums tending to be louder. Thicker drums will have more volume and projection than thinner drums. Of metal snare drums, steel tends to have the most crack and ability to cut through a dense mix.
Thanks for the interest!

Which snare shell is the most Loudest, Brightest, and Heaviest?
Is it just me or does this thing just not sound very good...
Agreed
Heads probably didn't have much time if any at all to sit and get tuned evenly. They probably swapped them out pretty quick and kept filming.
Agreed. I noticed he likes to tune snares up a bit high for my tastes. I'd like to hear it tuned lower to see if it had any thump.
@@dugjay I like to tune snares up pretty high as well, but every shell has a different sweet spot. This video doesn't seem to even come close.
Anything DW creates never sound good....4k for crap is insulting.
drops snare doing a workout *
Come on Nick at some point the phrase "it feels good under the hands" has to go. We know your a company man pitching the company line but come on you say it for every snare drum, every video!!
Hey, buddy!! Mr. D’Virgilio is one of the greatest drummers you’ll ever hear. He has played with Spock’s Beard, Big Big Train, Cirque du Solei, he’s the drum demonstrator for Sweetwater, all that, and a partridge in frickin pear tree. So you show him the respect he deserves!!!
@@davidmcaninch4714 What is your point? What you said has literally nothing to do with what Nathan said.
Bro I totally agree, he says that for every single snare drum and drum kit he plays haha. It made me stop really trusting his reviews cause he is never gonna give his honest opinion and has never said a negative thing about any piece of gear he has reviewed since at the end of the day sweetwater is a massive company and trying to sell you these instruments so he’s just being a salesman at the end of the day. Every drum set feels good under the hands and every kit is beefy and rich and has great rebound and great tone intervals between each Tom and every drum is sensitive to the touch. Haha. Those are just a few phrases he uses basically in every video. Now I watch demos and reviews with no talking or someone who is honest and says pros and cons and isn’t trying to sell you something.
Tbh BFSD kills the tone of all the snares when you tune the snare medium/high
Sounds great, looks great, and yet people will still complain just because it’s a DW
SunDialed Maybe it is because they don’t like the sound of DW’s. I had a $3300.00 collectors series kit that sounded like pure mush and were extremely difficult to tune. Sound men would tell me they sounded awful even now with my Gretsch USA customs the polar opposite as sound men are usually stunned at their tone.
I have had the most weird experiences with different DW's playing over the years using rented gear for shows/ studio kits etc etc. Some have sounded pretty solid and others were some of the worst drums i have ever played. Neil Pearts DWs always sounded terrible live as well. They have a real inconsistency problem with their drums which is pretty ridiculous considering how much you are paying for them. A friend of mine paid 4 grand for his 5 piece DW maples and they barely sounded better than my friends old beat up Pearl exports lol
inconsistent and overpriced. it isn't just because of the name.
I'm sure it's a great drum but four grand? If I felt the need for a bell brass snare drum I'd probably look at Gretsch. Honestly though, for metal snare drums my Ludwig 6.5x14 Supraphonic and Rogers Dynasonics (6.5x14 and 5x14) sound better to me and all three combined cost me half or less than the cost of this drum. I never thought I'd see the day that a drum company would surpass Sonor Drums in terms of cost but it seems that DW has.
I can’t be the only one that thinks this drum didn’t sound too good. Sounded very dead to me.
How dare you !!!! John good from dw is the master and all others will only take notes !!!! He does'nt copy ANYBODY !!!!! You got it??
It isn't really meant for all the other heads they put on it. Ambassador or Controlled sound>everything else. Dave uses the CS.
I really don't think this is worth $4k, in Australia it's rrp is $8.
😂 feel the buuuurrrrn 🏋️♂️🏋🏾♂️🏋️♂️don't drop it on your foot 🤣 that is a beautiful snare, though.
Or buy a new DW kit with a 14x6.5 steel or alloy snare instead.
With that price I will buy a nice est of drums
same price as a used tama bell brass.
To me the Remo 77 sounded best. 4k for a snare drum is not me....but hey....Sella Vie
$3,999 !!!! Damn
Honestly can find a snare for $600 that can sound the same
4k? Us$4000 !!!!! I see ...nice .
it sounds.....like a snare drum. Why would anyone pay $4000 for a snare drum? I paid $200 for a tama steel snare that sounds just as good
I much prefer to do 12oz curls buddy.
How is this possibly so expensive, it’s a metal shell cast with holes in it
exactly. Its a rip off like all DW drums
Sand cast then machined. Every part is cast. Short run special items are expensive in any market.
4K? No problem
wow........sounds like my $200 hammered steel snare, only less toneful and with more limited tuning range. even if i liked DW drums, i certainly wouldnt be dropping $4000 on this.
Just buy a Gretsch USA Bell Brass 14x.6.5 for around 1K. That snare is magical inside the studio and live. This is way over priced.
You're better off buying one from Savage Custom Drums. About a third of the price and they sound much better than this one does.
haha except they're using the exact same shell supplier
Declan White that DW badge costs $2500
@@declanwhite John is so cool .

I get it that there's a culture around bell brass (technically bronze) snare drums, but the price is just stupid. Even 2k is too much for Tama Bell Brass which is way better than this one (in my opinion). Heck, even my customized Metalworks can compete with these in the studio.
Bogdan Markovic where they shine is live tho
But still agree about the insane pricing lol.
I dont like the sound , to high tuned ! for a good snare demo you need 5B STICKS and LOW and MEDIUM tuning !
$4,000 is way too high, for one. And for two, if you price it off of tone, they don’t sound all that great. I’ll stick to a Ludwig black beauty all day 👍🏼
For that price you can have the manufacturer ship you 3 shells and outfit them with your own hardware. That price is ridiculas.
All of these people complaining about the price. Listen, they make it and can sell it for how much they want.
If you can't afford it, so be it.
If you can't afford it and want it, save up or increase your income!
Stop feeling entitled!
Someone is buying this stuff because DW is still business and thriving.
There are so many great drum companies now with drums that fit everyone's budget.
I want a Roland TD-50KVX and don't have the funds. I'm not complaining it costs too much. I am going to save or get a pre-owned unit.
It's because the drum doesn't sound like a $4,000 drum.
Whatever anyone say DW is overrated due to easily available for artists anywhere........Mapex can take down easily a collectors kit
Even Mars series
No low end, no real crack... Either your mics and mixing are sub par (unlikely), DW made a crappy 4000$ drum (still unlikely) or you messed up the tuning completely. Sounds nothing like any of the great Bell Brass snares like Tama, Oriollo, etc.
I think it's the mixing as well as the tuning, it sounds like there's little to no room mic which takes away a lot of the bark and low end that bronze has
Get a Yamaha instead
This drum sounds nothing compared to the drumcraft bellbronce or tempest bell bronce snares. it sounds like a 200 dollar drum
unfortunately, it sounds like CRAP...really missing a lot of the ovetones promoted tha would make anyone pay 4k for a snare like that, and regardless we like the drum or not, the problem is the recording and the tuning.
about the snare...
1- what´s the point of mixing cast bronze (and call it "bell brass" like tama did) and aluminum hoops??? you might want to keep all material the most alike possible for a more even resonance.
2- For that price tag, you can easily buy 2 snares of cast bronze in both shell and hoops, (i would mention tempest and oriollo jusrt as example) so i think it's WAY overpriced...
the worst thing for me, keeps being the recording itself.
Not a fan and all my snares are Metal!
DW;A drum company with such A big ego that they made A whole new company (pdp)just to lower the frickn prices!!!
😤😤😤😤
Seriously 4000$,that’s enough money to but 2 better quality Tama sets.
(Just my opinion).
Mr and Mr Smith Yep
I agree with you,but the lugs aren’t all that bad .
