@@KRO222 ... Thanks! Very cool. I will say this though. You can get a 3mm thick cast bronze shell from Gretch for $1000. It doesn't come with those gorgeous cast hoops though. Sweet snare!
The camera mic and its compressor do not do the sound of the drum justice, also I didn't really spend any time tuning it, just slapped two heads on and whacked it.
thats a really nice snare. how much did it cost to get the shell? i've wanted a bronze snare for a while, but never thought of building one myself. i really like the idea of making my own snare.
I order a Oriollo bell maker bronze shell, it cost me 870$ (with shipping) that was just for the shell, bearing edges, drill holes for lugs and for the throw off, 3mm, and a air vent. If you live in the US, it’s probably easier to find a company here, instead of getting a import, because I think that’s what made it so much.
@@01dukester i have an extremely rare snare as is. the spruce and sycamore dw. its the most dynamic and resonant drum i've ever heard. when i first got it. the concussion was so intense it felt like standing next to a 308 at the gun range. i do plan on getting one of these brass snares custom made, but as it is right now. learning to control this utterly dynamic and sensitive drum offers more options than any snare i've ever had. even humidity will alter the resonance, and tamber. mine is at g sharp oddly enough, which has allowed me, with the wood, to tune tamber up and down a quarter step. but there are too many overtones that i've tried many ways to control them desirably. i can actually alter humidity to control the drums. you can't do that with brass. so its. something for an artist, not a work horse. those brass snares are designed to be consistent no matter where you go. while i never bring a drumset out. i get to explore humidity and stuff like that.
@@radelarosa97 the maker of the shell in this video is a family old american business, and was quite affordable compared to how expensive this drum could cost. i haven't ordered yet.
Tayma drums? Not in 41 years have I ever heard ANYone pronounce it that incorrectly. You're the winner. Do you just not pay attention to stuff in general?
How did you go about deciding where the holes for the throw off and butt plate were positioned? I’m in the process of ordering a shell but can’t find any information on how high up the shell to mount the throw off.
Duluth Brass put all the holes in the shell. I sent the throw and butt (and a lug) to Duluth and they determined where to put the holes and drilled them accordingly. I figured they seemed to know what they were doing so I let them handle that.
Not sure what you mean. They supplied me with info as to what was available and I selected from those options. The price wasn't cheap but relatively "cheap" compared to most cast bronze factory built drums. I did request the 7 lines be machined into the shell and they obliged at no extra charge.
I like those Rogers lugs. I was thinking of making a Tama replica but now Im using a Trick strainer and some nice custom made lugs and going fully custom with a Duluth 14 x 7 Bronze shell. 3mm shell with 5mm edges.
Love your lug choice!
Wow just wow!
Super Duper My Man!What a snare!
Why do you not have gloves on? Seriously great of you to post. I hitting up Duluth now for sure...

@@mermerserkan It still looks the same although I'd like it to develop a patina over time.
What was the cost of the project, if you don't mind me asking?
About $1100 for everything. Still expensive but far cheaper than buying a "factory" cast bronze drum.

Yes please do tell? Thanks
If I remember right the shell was $600 and the hoops were another $150.

We're the bearing edges and snare bed depth/width your dimensions or did Duluth recommend what you ended up with?
I just had them do their standard build as far as edges and the snare bed.
Good choice of hardware, sir. 👍
