I got to 10 Minutes and had to pause to stem the excitement... I will Keep R19 as an Active copy to help with the below negative comments... Maxon well done... I can't wait until September, Thankfully my IT dept has renewed our service agreement!! woohoo
The Volume Mesher is Voxel based, which is kind of a 3D Pixel. But it's a huge help for modeling overall. And I love how it can react to noises and stuff, very cool. Also the CAD Import works like a charm, you now can import 3D Models easily and you are even able to define a max Edge-Length, which makes the CAD more smooth and rounded, like it should be. We don't have to remodel 3/4 of the CAD Models we get here.
By the time I get this I'm going to just be drowning in ideas I've thought up over the coming weeks for how I can use it. Love the way Chris makes a sound effect for almost everything he does on C4D too :D
I'm on R18 as well and to be honest: in my eyes the news of R19 and R20 aren't a big deal. Prorender is a joke and fluids still are better done in blender just to give two examples. Nevertheless: I love C4D. Btw. There has changed sth dramatically in maxon's structure. Maxon now is completely owned by nemetschek when I'm right and the three german founders of C4D have left the company. Will be exciting to see how C4D will develop in the future.
I used the Volume builder/mesher to create the base for a 3d sculpture, it was super easy and fast since there was no demo 3d sculpt tool in I could use as a base. Literally got rid of any of the usual prep work associated in a sculpt process. I had a obj in ZBrush from C4D in minutes and had a DECENT 3d sketch by the end of the day. I had tried something like this in Maya about a year ago, to build a base with simple shapes and merge them but had failed horribly cause the mesh it created was "shit" lol Literally made C4D a must have in my computer with 1 feature. Super genius stuff right there
Hey. Love the enthusiasm! I'm a Houdini user just interested to see what's up with C3D :) One thing: when you say it's a "parametric object", do you not mean "procedural"?
Hi, Can you tell me how to render tiles for Huge Scene? There is one tutorial for using tiled rendering but that camera is not available in cinema 4D r20. Awaiting for your reply. and the video was very informative. thanks.
I keep digging for information from Next Limit, and others as to how quickly they'll have plug-ins that work for R20 (more importantly how will they pay for the rewrites without charging us). Redshift's site still says R16 or later supported, with no further info. Anyone with info, please speak up!
I'm curious. With the SSS shaders making it into the scene, can anyone tell me if Prorender is going to support Cinema 4D hair in any way? I'm wondering if I'm going to be able to actually switch to prorender for human characters.
It's 1993 all over again. You have to sacrifice ALL YOUR PLUGIN'S to use this version of Cinema 4D R20 which are not python based..until they are re-coded. Coffee based plugins are no longer supported and neither are previous script based plugins. Sub Surface Scattering is not supported in material Nodes. There is still no proper fluid simulation system, such as like what you find In Blender, and that's just... the start. Bodypaint still hasn't been updated and integrated into R20, UV Mapping is still in the dark ages, there's been nothing added for character animators ... MSA Subscriptions have gone up again... as well....
For unwrap can use Unfold3D, its better anyway than unwrap in other software (Max, Maya, MODO, Blender, Houdini, etc) though I agree vanilla c4d unwrap is worse than vanilla max unwrap.
I stopped upgrading at version 11.5... after 8 years of upgrades and modules I added. They changed the upgrade game... and thought screw that..I'll make do with what I have... Being held over a barrel isn't my idea of fun... In any case, I hoped Cinema 4D would have taken a new consumer friendly direction with R20, like what Pixologic or Blackmagic have with their products. But no, Maxon are just another greedy company that deliberately holds things back for future profit. Lack of SSS in nodes is just one example...with R20. The modular system they had was far better for the consumer, it gave them choices. Maxon from R12 castrated the product range in a stair cased pricing way... whilst simultaneously forcing up the ownership cost, and freezing out those who did not upgrade after 3 versions prior.... People like Grayscale Gorrila get NFR versions from Maxon... and they try and create the hysteria for the product with video's like these....
skyhawk77 I completely agree with this.....im going to shift from Cinema 4D and use blender and houdini. Blsck magic have got it right! They have pleased the user and get as many people using it as possible and work on volume......They are giving something back to the user. Maxon dont give a shit to its customers and this is evident......
I just wish that Maxon will open the sdk for this really nice Node editor to other developers so it can be used by other renders like Redshirt or Otoy,
LOL, soft like 3DCoat uses this technology many many years.Maxon are just geniuses, in 2018 make this features inside C4D. What is next? Maybe NURBS modeling like Rhinoceros or other CAD soft..
Then please do enlighten us upon what volumes do serve for, oh volumes master.......... No matter the original intent for vdb, it certainly seems like Maxon intended this usecase for volumes. The way he's utilizing it for complex modeling is pretty fucking awesome and definitely the way to go for those types of models in C4D now.
1/10. mind is not blown and really would not use any of these features besides "playing around". only decent thing is node based materials which still ended up in me wishing for more
imagine a creature is coming out from the ground...imagine how EASY it would be in comparison to how you would do that with manually setting up colliders and deformers and fine tuning their interaction...what are you talking about? lol
Nodding SUCKS.I still have R18.But i really hope maxxon will not take that nodding thing to far because most people use C4D because they hate using nodes for texture, etc.I stopped using blender, because of nodding and bugs, and i stopped using maya because they went RENTAL-(vicious way of stealing money from people).I never use any of adobe products for that same reason. Those are the main reason why i bought C4D and i have never regreted it but now i am starting to.Many people have done the same as i've done.
I like nodes, makes everything on 1 screen and easier, dont need constantly switching between many nested views to change things. And you can use same node in many inputs, in non-node mode you need to copy it many times. If you want make changes in nodes you do it 1 time and other mode you would need change it manually everywhere. And it's optional, you dont have to use it. Plus many things I cant even imagine how to make without nodes. Overall they give potential to make more complex materials/shaders. Also where did you get statistics that most people hate nodes. I get used to them from Unreal Engine and Substance Designer and also Houdini.
It seems he is very Apple fanboy about this software. Nothing really special with this update. All 3D software seems to have reached their pinnacle at this point or just greedy. Sadly I could think of dozens of things to improve just about any 3D software I use. I do not have loyalties nor biases. I look for useful tools. I use Modo mostly but as soon as they are completely pay a rental fee I am dropping them instantly and heading to Blender if I must or never upgrading either or will suffice. They seem to barely upgrade anything at all. C4D also no need to upgrade. No one is doing anything special these days. How boring.
Confirmed what? Me a teenager, no. Makes shit work oh hell yeah. I am learning Unreal currently. I will take any route to climb to the top. Unreal is a very useful powerful tool so I am using it.

What an absolutely phenomenal video. A hybrid somewhere between a new release features and a full blown tutorial, just what we want, well done.
Like a kid on Christmas... Love it!
So excited. Also super glad I can turn off the image project path popup, sooooo annoying !

I managed to get to twenty minutes and need another break... my god some of these new features are going to help!!
44 mins now... I will have to come back... Chris you should talk for the olympic medal...
58:19 So wicked! Going into Houdini territory here. Maxon is feeling the heat. What an incredible release. Can't wait!
I think it’s accurate to think of volumes as 3 dimensional alpha channels. Great video this far!

finally with the plane effector you'll be able to make decent tyres for vehicles!
amazing adventures!!! great video and i'm a veteran 3d guy
I feel for for the Blender developers who are about to get a whole tsunami of effect requests because of this release.

Fantastic video.. Gotta upgrade to R20 immediately!

plugins written in C ++ for R19 and older versions will not work in Cinema 4D R20?

Can we import volume maps?

Cinema4D R20 = turn any model into an inflatable balloon.
Basically! hehe.
I am curious how hard this is to setup in Houdini..
Houdini is painful to use when it comes to simple things....try animating a clock with it.
Im using R19, should I switch soon?
Do it!
Alright im gettin' it soon! This looks so awesome! Hopefully the UV mapping is now better though... xD
When is it available?
Scheduled for September, no firm date announced.
VDB thing like in houdini. Can make very complex forms with it and dont care about topology.
51:42 Did Chris accidentally created a living being? Hhh
I just wish that Maxon will open the sdk for this really nice Node editor to other developers so it can be used by other renders like Redshirt or Otoy,
it cant be used for redshift? if its true that's disappointing
VOLUME OF NOISE !

im waiting on keyshot to step up to r20

@@Greyscalegorilla thanks for reply, but studio is way more expensive... Can't afford it right now

LOL, soft like 3DCoat uses this technology many many years.Maxon are just geniuses, in 2018 make this features inside C4D. What is next? Maybe NURBS modeling like Rhinoceros or other CAD soft..
dude they've had nurbs forever
fields amazing, volume is good, but still not so much improvements...
I don't have volume item in main menu and does not match in the search bar;(
This feature is in version R20 and up only.
I have R20.026
Maybe it's the flavor of C4D that you are using? We use Studio. I would contact Maxon support and ask them.
node system like octane material
nodes are pretty much everywhere, except after effects and photoshop probably.
I swear I'm gonna learn this software and make it my bitch! The only limit for this is ur brain... Awesome video by the way!
Did you throw a beauty filter on this video?
r20 good

Dude, that's not what volumes serve for, try writing vdb on google
then why Houdini hass a Convert VDB to Polygons node?

Creativity is nice, but instead, would be nice to see some fire, smoke, dust, fog interacting with mograph...
For now, we can use x-particles.
There lot of uses for them: make rocks, boolean hard surface (3d-coat style), abstract figures, clouds, water…
brain hurts badly.
Motrin?
Field is basically a carbon copy of MASH in Maya...
说中文好吗?哈哈😄
Shit
Nifty, but flawed. Big buildup on VOLUME...and in R20.026....it's NOT there, what a crock.

There are scripts included to update old scene feels to new.
