  • This was absolutely amazing and so simple
four months ago I took some cuttings from some roses that I have in my north facing garden. The results were amazing.

Hi Marc. It was good to see you in the garden today and forgetting about your cold cottage. Today I had a visit from two very dear friends who have made their home in the Charente like you and live near Nontron. They also live in a stone cottage as ole or older than yours and they were telling me that the only work they had not done themselves was to insulate the house. It was done through a government grant and although the work cost 5000 Euros they only had to pay 2 Euros! Marc please look into this grant and your cold cottage would be warm and you wouldn’t have to keep moving your rooms around. Best wishes Marc.🤩

Same here in UK. My 140 year old cottage [with only a coal fire in one room for heating] is due for total external and loft insulation and a reverse air heating system inc. new radiators and plumbing throughout and solar panels for free on a UK wide green energy scheme started by the last conservative Gov. All my neighbours have had their homes done. I'm last because my cottage is brick [not stone] built so can be insulated on the outside. To qualify all I had to prove was that I was burning fossil fuel [coal wood etc] or using portable gas/electricity heaters. It's all part of a 'Green energy' scheme to offset fossil fuel emissions. The scheme is accessed by contacting your local council who arrange everything. For The UK all the info is online. It includes owned and rented properties. Our tiny hamlet of 7 cottages and a small farm also had communal use of an ancient well fed by a natural spring. The well was capped in the 1960s by the Water Board so they could access the water, as a result we haven't received water bills for over 65 years although we all have individual filtered, soak away, sewerage systems which have to be emptied about every 5 years at a cost of about £250.000. We don't have water meters. After reading the above post I looked the French equivalent scheme and it's almost the same but not as comprehensive. Go for it Marc.

That's very interesting about the roses, I'm not much of a gardening guy but I was told by a garden centre that you can't take slips off rose bushes and grow them as they need to be grafted on to root stock to survive ............... once again I'm learning from you .

Hi Marc, so cool to see you so happy and excited about your cuttings, simple things …( maybe not that simple) 😂 but how satisfying is that!! , you don’t get that when you simply buy stuff. Well done you brought a huge smile here just sharing your happiness 😀

My 88 year old Neighbour is moving into a Retirement Village so selling up. She gave me some Mint that she said she planted when she moved into her house 67 years ago. I put the stems in water and they have a great root system so now I am going to pot them up. I have plenty of Mint already but couldn't let the opportunity pass to keep the old plant going- because I suspect a Developer will buy her place and raze it for a couple of new Townhouses and her original Mint will be tossed in the skip bin. I might even give whoever eventually lives there something from the old place. Having seen your success the next job is getting a few cuttings from her Rose bush.

Well done, Marc. No matter what I do I just can not seem to get rose cuttings to grow!!! I think as you said in a previous video that you need a polly tunnel. You should also look at growing some to sell - that may help with the renovations fund

Good to see the joy that you are getting from your "boutures" Marc. Did you know that cats tend to dislike citrus so try putting orange peel around the plant areas and it should keep tinker teddy away. Alternatively perhaps make a chicken wire barrier around it. Bon courage 🛠️

Arrrh what a lovely video, makes me want to get out in garden now. Just 1 fail that's amazing, yes if you won the lottery you could go out and buy the plants, but growing your own from a twig is much more fun and rewarding. I think I like cuttings more than seeds, but I get joy from both. Nice to see you in your happy place. Naughty Teddy 😅,,they do keep us busy our pets that's for sure, but pay us back with endless fun . ❤

Well done, Marc. I have been gardening for decades but never had luck with rose cuttings. I am green with envy! I watch you often. Its lovely to see you taking a moment to relax with your Teddy. We have a black cat, too. Some people call them voids, because if their eyes are shut, you cant see them.I dreamed of making a new start from hot, burnt Australia to cool, misty Ireland but my daughter got cancer, so we are trapped here. I live vicariously through people like you who have done it. Enjoy spring. Take care. Kaye.

Hi Marc. I’ve grown roses from cuttings before. They grow pretty easily especially flower carpet roses. Great job. It’s great when something grows. I took some miniature fuschia cuttings recently from my sisters garden and I got three to grow out of 5. Bearing in mind it’s really hot here right now. They’re tiny but thriving and one plant has two flowers on it. Yay. So excited. I can relate to your excitement. ❤ it should be cheaper if you set up direct debit not dearer. I’ve got a few DD’s for insurances, car etc. I don’t like it but some companies charge more if you don’t set it up. Can’t win either way. Lol

Congrats on your rose propagation! 🌹 I have come to adore the single shrub roses over the years.
A stink bug would cause frothing of an animal's mouth, but it's nothing to worry about. Their secretions are irritants, not poisons. A weevil is an entirely different animal. Shouldn't think they'd cause any noticeable issues.
Grammar question: is this an English dialect idiosyncrasy?
"The cat was sat on the curtain."
    versus
"The cat was sitting on the curtain."
To me, they mean two different things. 🤔
Happy gardening! I am debating whether to try snowshoveling a path to the goose coop, through the massive snowdrift, in the current -30°C temperature. Meh. Think I'll pass...🥶😊

Hi Mark, can’t say I am a fan of the DIY or political commentary videos, but when it comes to gardening, mowing grass, transplanting clippings, you really shine! Don’t know if this is popular youtube content, but I really enjoy it Sometimes when you go through the various plants in your flower beds, could you spend a few seconds to share a bit more details about them. That would be great. Thanks for what you are doing!

It might be a bit 'analogue' but I too prefer to pay on receipt of (quarterly) bills, as a pal had an occasion were a direct debit was taken out TWICE within one month (in error) but they still had hassle (and a lengthy wait!) to get the money back, from the utility provider.
Re: 🌹🌱 Like me, I'm sure your other viewers were 'willing' each cutting to show roots, as you checked each one of them.. And most did, thankfully 👌✨
I bet Teddy's 'brush' with the Stink Beetle taught him to give them a 'wide berth in future!' 😽 - 😆 ✨ ✨

In France gaz, electric, water give you a yearly monthly plan for your direct debit. At the end of the year you could be credit or not depending on your consommation. You could have negotiated maybe on a payment !!!! I find its easier to balance my expenses.

I do that here in the US with my electricity bill, it's called budget billing, I pay a set amount each month but can check my monthly bill to see if I owe them more. It allows me not to get slammed with a 4 or 5 hundred dollar bill in the cold winter months and I pay off the additional money I owe as I can afford it before the 6 month budget billing cycle. You still pay for every bit of electricity you use, some people don't understand that and get shocked with a big balloon bill they did not expect.

What success. I’ve only tried rosé cuttings once years ago. Never thought it would work as just put them in the garden against the shady side of the house. I ended up with 6 Iceburg roses. ( white ). Was so excited. It was a great rose. Never got got greenfly or black leaf/ not sure if it’s still sold. Poor teddy. Still, good to learn by your own mistake. He’s such a smart little cookie. Will wait with anticipation for your first blooms. Do try Just Joey. Best rose ever. Buds open in a vase and last a week. So large and beautiful. Awful name though. 🥴

    Hi Marc
We live in France 24300 abjat-sur-bandiat. We pay our water by direct debit, and you pay it over 10 months, not 12, as you were calculating. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work. Best wishes, Mark and Angela
