Here are all the presets from bank 3 (the first half anyway) of the fantastic new Dave Smith Instruments MoPho. The MoPho is synced up with an Elektron Machinedrum via MIDI and a drumbeat is being fed into the MoPho's external audio in. Depending on the patch, the external input level is turned up or down. There are some really great patches and starting points in there. It's got great chiptune stuff, fatty basses and leads and some really fun percussion potential.

One of the greatest desktop synths ever in my opinion!

I have both the mopho, evolver AND a voyager, and they make for a really intesting marriage when you put something together :-)

nope, its solid as a rock. Although the evolver was and is no slouch, this thing seems to be hewn from granite. The small form factor coupled with the delcious out of the box sounds mean ive used it in about 20 tracks already :-D
What im gonna do is throw some of the sequenced patches- bad pitch settings etc- out and program my own using the evolver editor, which is free and a doddle to use.
The best bang for the buck going right now, it really is.

@nutrinoland We were showing the presets in the MoPho. That is all. If we had changed the patterns during this video, the difference in sounds would not have been as apparent.

@mpresev We shot a video with the DSI MoPho doing kicks (we never attempted snares though). You can judge for yourself how good the kicks were in our video. Just search for DSI MoPho Kicks. Our video will show up on top.

Vince Clarke just said he really likes the Mopho's sound a lot. And he said the Slim Phatty doesn't sound analog to him at all. And who else would have a good ear for analog equipment but a guy who's played them all?

i was going to get evolver, but i think now im going to get this instead. all i ever wanted was pure analog, but with modern stability, i think ive found it :)

Hi! Please, how can i do to change from bank 1 to 2, and the from 2 to 3. This question may seem silly but i don't know how to do it even reading the manual.

I don't fully understand why 70% of the presets have noise mixed in. Either sounds like white noise or noise generated by FM. The sounds without noise sound really good. Perhaps it's to emulate vintage hiss?

Depends on opinion, but I think the mopho is better simply due to the fact it's 100% analog as opposed to the Evolver which is only 50%.

I have the micron and while I will say it is really good, nothing beats true analogue. That having been said, it all depends on what you want. Do you want polyphony and a built in keyboard? If yes have you checked out the Novation X Station? I know it costs a bit more than the Micron but it has an audio interface and more readily controllable parameters.

in my opinion, it DOES stand up to the evolver, but it's a different more warmer and cleaner sound. Maybe its cause theres no delay circuits in the chain and also no digital trashy oscillators like the evolver., which are entirely a matter of taste ( i do a lot of idents, soundtrack stuff etc, and the evolver doesnt get as much mileage as it used to now).
Quality wise..again in my opinion, they seem to be better built and more sturdier than the evolver . Theyre also cheaper too! :-D

hey, so you have the evolver, do you mean mono? anyway I'm sure they're comparable,
I'm looking at the mopho, sound wise does it stand up to the evolver module? I would assume the evolver is generally better since it's bigger and the price tag too but if the mopho takes aspects from he prophet, I dont' want to asssume I can compare quality to the evolver, give me your opinions! cause I'm going for the mopho if they're very different. if it's JUST quality diferences I might go a step further

Are the presets diffrent on the mopho keyboard? As I dont appear to have half of these... !

can it create percussion like kicks and snare? does it do it well?

  • @TR33LINEUK
    @TR33LINEUK 15 років тому

that's the impression I got. it seems warmer and a bit different. I have a Korg M3 and almost ever preset is just not what I want to get from my sounds. too digital and weird, not enough pure substance. everything on this video on the other hand, definitely is! your comment made my mind up, I really don't care about the price or the smallness. it's portable and cheap, looks like it has proper quality to it! though is it made of plastic?.....

Actually the Mopho is much more interesting than the moog and costs 10 times less xD

why does everyone jump on him for sayin it sounds like every other analog mono synth that has the same specs. 2 osc + vcf + vca. they are so simple they are going to sound the same its a fact. obviously there are reasons why this is not a moog. filters for example are patented on the moog so actually it will never be a moog. but why everyone jumps on someone who is making a serious point who knows their stuff is a mystery. just let it go.
