This guy has singlehandedly opened my eyes to how shallow and lazy i was in the tactics screen, extremely underrated channel dude, i hope more and more players start seeing your content especially now that the game is f2p!
Not sure what I love more. The beautiful structured and presented content. Or the fact that even in 2d, on a ice-ravaged pitch, Kenilworth Road looks better here than it does in real life.
For the record, editing 2D clips with snow was a nightmare. so hard to make sure everything was clear when ther's a bunch of white highlights on the pitch
I want to add that, players with hi Aggression attr got hi tendency to initiate a press. If you assigned a player with pressing but lower in aggression attr, he will do it poorly most of the time.
I was just about to say this. Also the video shown of the failed press, the player attribute can also contribute to that too. Poor decision, anticipation, concentration and positioning does influence that. Also, training schedule. I recently tested something from The Coaches Book on YT (still testing). Training does influence gameplay. This is brilliant though. This pressing thing has been a bone of my existence because I have seen the AI with some unique pressing shapes (Aston villa). This is refreshing, already envisioning how this would work with a better team Thanks man.
@@nerdifymusic7322 That's one of the things that I always have a tricky time with whenever talking about player roles and tactics in these videos (talking about player attributes, failed press, etc..). There are so many different variables that go into watching a match play out, that you can't say with a definitive answer what will happen or why certain things played out the way they did. All I try to do is put players in the right position and hope things work out 🤣🤣 And glad you enjoyed the video!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I really did. It even gave me a couple of ideas. You're correct, one can't definitively put a finger on why it happens but there's no denying the effectiveness of your idea. I'm not gonna lie, this thing has been pissing me off because I have an idea of how I want to press but certain players especially my forward isn't doing his job in that regard forcing other players particularly my wingers to break pattern. The worse part of it is that I have seen the AI do better with the pressing. The reason I brought up training was the one time I didn't implement my Opposition analysis into my training for a game (since I started to do that like yesterday 😅), my press was crap against a team good at holding onto the ball, a lower league team for that matter. I pride myself in possession so that pissed me off to no end.
I'm dropping a line to help fix the algorithm, so more FMs can lick this absolute masterclass! Who is this champ? Is he advising Klopp between spells of revolutionizing our fm experience? Just a hell of work you're doing. And this deep voice of calmness. Love it!!! Greetings from Poland. I repeat: Poland. Not Holland😅 BTW: is Halland subscribing you yet? I am.👍
I am playing FM since FM15 and in theory I know everything you say in these videos from countless hours of playing and watching hundreds of videos etc. BUT no where you can find it so simply layed out and explained as here. The things you say just make sense and easy to understand and I am "relearning" how to play FM thanks to you. You can watch 1000 videos about what roles to use etc. but its usless if you dont actually understand what things do. And this is your golden content, that teaches people actually what roles/instructions etc. actually do. Also I really hope, that we might see videos about instructions and formations more.
that really means a lot for you to say that, thank you! I always try and make sure if I say something about a role or instruction, unless it's basic info, try to have highlights showing that (the old famous film saying "show don't tell"). And going forward should see a nice blend of traditional player roles as well as more of the tactical side.
i never understood how to successfully implement pressing in football manager, I really am learning alot from your videos. very interesting that you didn't use the pressing traps in Opposition Instructions which is the most confusing part in my opinion. I really needed this video I have been playing fm since fm20 and I still dont know how defending and pressing works. Thank you.
Glad the video helped you out! And I didn't include opposition instructions mostly for the sake of the video, but hope to do one on those types of instructions in the future
I'm a fan boy of all your videos but I think this is the best one. I used this against a strong Bayern side and yes I was Arsenal but they have always been a bogey side for me in the CL so I thought I would try it out. I won 4-2, 16 shots 6 on target xg of 2.80 and they were restricted to only 3 shots, xg of 0.38. They just struggled to break us down when I was watching the match even though they had 58% possession. Keep up the good work.
that's so cool thanks for sharing!! Sometimes doing these kinds of tactics means you can catch the opponent off guard with a new tactic; they have your normal tactic scouted but you unleash this one and it's suuuuper effective. Congrats on the big win!!!
Your videos about FM tactics are, quite simply, fantastic. I've been playing since CM97/98 and these are the easiest to understand, concise and well presented tips I've ever seen. I've already implemented some of the stuff I've picked up from you in my current save and its improved my team very much. Also love that you are shining a light on the player roles that I think most of us dismiss out of hand as not being 'sexy' enough. 👌
Man that means a lot thank you! I'm happy the presentation of the information is easy to follow and implement. And I do love those less attractive roles; the Defensive Winger held down each flank just by themselves and both contributed to the goals! One had the direct assist, and the other created a corner which led to the second goal.
I am truly amazed with that video. I am always reluctant to change players roles during season to the point where my team's tactic familiarity goes down to less then 80%. I was under impression that match engine punish players who try to mimic real life football - meaning adjusting your system to stronger opponents (which is a problem when You dominate your domestic league while being underdog in European competitions). You've prove me wrong Sir! Thanks, I will definitely try to experiment more :)
thank you and glad you liked the video!! I've always found that changing tactics could potentially hurt your familiarity, but you gain a lot by trying to take advantage of the opponent. These are completely made up numbers, but let's say your team plays 5% every time you switch to a new tactic, but if the new one makes you 10% better, it's a net positive! (that analogy made sense in my head, so hopefully it made sense haha)
Never knew the team mentality changed so much more than just offence, there's always more to learn about fm on this channel 😂 Love the shout out to the CM on attack cause we all know its far none the best in the game
I joked with someone on the CM video that I love all player roles equally, but the CM(A) is like the child who always gets A's on their report card and never acts out
This video actually gave me flashbacks of two different saves of mine: 1. Sparta Rotterdam save on FM22. Having dominated dutch football domestically, in Europe I was getting close, but not quite. One day on a european match against a bigger opponent, I decided to switch to Attacking mentality. This gave me a 3-0 win on the first leg but the result wasn't the most important outcome of the match. Attacking mentality does not only bring the play to the opposition's defensive third, but the game is played away from your defensive end as well. Your defending players have less defensive work to do and can contribute more on attack. This works well with a gegenpress style of play. The more aggressive you are when losing the ball and the higher you press your opponent on the pitch, the more rewarding it will get. A year later, I won the Europa League and 2 years later, I reached the Champions League final. It also depends on the opponent. If you play against Zwolle for example (no offense), you are prepared to see 11 players behind the ball, so you have to work harder in possession, or even decide to give up possession to them and try to break their formation by making them commit errors. But if you play against Manchester City and have pacy defenders, there's a good chance you'll get a result. 2. Yeovil town save on FM15. From League 1 to the Premier League, where I gained multiple promotions, celebrated great results and made the team a solid mid-table team that avoids relegation easily, with less than 40% possession. It was all about defending and crossing the ball forward. Great physical players, pacy wingers, ball winning midfielders and a young Kieffer Moore that was able to play as a central defender too. I still remember a win at Goodison Park on FA Cup when still playing in League 1, where I ended up playing 5-5-0 for the last 30 minutes of the game (one of the midfielders was at Box to Box role, so he could get to the opposite box if the opportunity allowed).
I’ve never thought of using player roles like this! This had completely reframed how I can think about mentality and team instructions. And that formation?? Wow, just wow! Brilliant video and what an unbelievable tactical showcase!
thank you!! It's why I always start with minimal team instructions. The tactic *should* work in at least some aspect by just using your formation, player roles, and a couple instructions. Then you can further tweak it to be a truly dominant tactic!
Very good video! I love how you break down the tactical arrangments and demonstrate them in action against Haaland. Your pressing forward on defensive pressing from the front to the defensive midfield, was truly impressive. I have a suggestion for a future video: analyzing Riccardo Calafiori's mid-forward runs. This is a must-see case study for understanding modern tactics. If successful at Arsenal, many teams will likely adopt similar strategies. It would be a great way to gain a deeper understanding of player roles and tactics. This could be a valuable learning experience for viewers.
Come on man... I can't stop playing now. I want to try EVERYTHING you are teaching us. What have I been playing the last 20 years??? Did I win the Champions League by mistake those many times? You are amazing. Thank you! PS: you must think we are all a bunch of shallow ignorant gamers... sorry for that, you may be right
I love your videos. It's nice to see someone explain in a structured manner and with detailed observations all the while avoiding silly click bait strategies
I have fallen in love with your videos. They are so amazing, and you are doing an amazing work. And it's also a huge thing, that it's not about raping the game engine, but building tactics by logic and reason, and you are explaining the fundamentals clearly. ❤
Thanks!! I haven't really thought about it, but it would be a lot of fun to break down how to stop a player with opposition instructions. If I'm honest a lot of times I get sidetracked when making videos
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Hope in the near future you enjoy making a video about that topic. I hardly ever use that feature and I don't see others using that as well!
Excellent video. Another video covering individual instructions and instructions for opponents would be interesting. I don't understand much about the pressure on individual instructions
Enjoyed this video a lot, I used DW a few times esp on my retro save with Chelsea, 2004 J.cole was a good example for this role, that was one the ways Mourinho controlled other teams wide build ups. And the only team could beat Chelsea that season was city whom played a extremely narrow formation by default all that season.
One of the best explaining videos of how a tactic can work! Congrats! Quick question: Do you use the same players in those different roles? I mean Barkley has been playing as a CM, a playmaker, a CAR and so on. Same with other players. Do you think anyone can play anything? Also I think SI must rename the defensive Winger to Pressing Winger the same way they did with the forwards. And one suggestion: Make a video where your plan didn't work out and how you try to fix it during a match but couldn't. Thanks for your content!
Thank you for the kind words! As far as the question, I like to use different tactics throughout a season, so I usually favor if someone can play in a position in a tactic over what the exact player role is. I like the flexibility and being able to switch stuff around if I need. Using Barkley as the example, he can basically play anywhere in the midfield, but I'll only use him in those positions he is at least familiar with. Meaning I wouldn't use him as the defensive winger, for example (unless injuries, suspensions, etc...) He'll still exhibit his playmaking abilities even if he's not necessarily in a playmaking role. In this video where he was the Carrilero, it was hit shot that led directly to the second goal. Hopefully that made sense/helped a little!! And I think if SI renamed it to the "Ball Winning Winger" or something it'd be the most popular role. Also I love that video idea!!! I'll see if I can get started on something; it shouldn't be too hard to fail at a tactic hahaha
Yet another lesson at the University of Football Manager! And another good one. Hopefully the FM25 engine won't be such a revolution that all this wisdom becomes useless 😅
I definitely enjoy this video & congratulations on your victory. Good decision from No. 29 to play the offside trap in 16:23. For a moment, I thought he was confused about which opponent to mark. Haaland or the No. 27 behind him. Definitely didn't think your approach would be on "attacking" mentality but it does make sense. I had a "positive" mentality approach on big games & some of players are "confused" because the approach was too attacking & would "expose ourselves at the back." I'm still playing FM21 but your videos helps me - like another comment here - "relearning" about the game. Thank you for the video & have a good video. Also, nice Expos' hat 👍
Thank you!! And glad you enjoy the Expos hat! I wish there was an option to tell the players "well I'm the manager so keep your mouth shut" haha. Or to be able to throw more water bottles
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker 😂 You have the potential to become Brian Clough. One of his quote: "If I had an argument with a player we would sit down for twenty minutes, talk about it and then decide I was right!" Also, thank you too for your Central Midfielder role video. In the support role, without any hard-coded instructions (HCI), it can be a powerful role especially depending on his traits. I remember watching one of (I believe it was) Zealand's video that one of the five most important attributes for the CM role are his traits. Sadly there are no role for the winger (AMR/AML) where there are no HCI. I have a winger with the potential to become a "2-way winger" (can cut inside & become a touchline winger) & although the Inverted Winger seems to be the closest (like you explain on your video & also thank you for that too), I personally don't feel it has the freedom like a CM on support role. Thank you also for the reply 🤝
@@alistairwilliams9074 Always happy to help!! I will say, if you're feeling ambitious, you could always try the Wide Midfielder role. He's not available in the AM slot and he sits further back and plays a little wider (obviously haha). But has kinda similar play to the winger and the support duty also doesn't have any hard coded instructions. May be a possible solution going forward!
Like the video. Can’t remember if I have ever used defensive wingers before, as when I use a back 3 I play with attacking wingbacks, will give it a go and see how that changes things
Great video! I just have a couple of questions (that may well be obvious but oh well) 1. What kind of player is needed for a pf (d) rather than a pf (a), and also does them both being high pressing roles mean they could be in bad positions for attacks? 2. Is it better to focus on defense attributes or attacking ones for a dw? 3. Would this work on teams worse than you who wouldnt play out the back as much, and would this be remidied by just making it a possession tactic by lowering the tempo/passing directness? Love your channel keep up the great content!
Thank you! And thank you for the questions! 1. For a pressing forward, the biggest thing to me in a player is work rate. I can work with any type of player, but give me good work rate who will run. And Luton's two strikers have excellent work rate. In this video, the PF (D) had a work rate of 15 (great for the Premier League) and the PF (A) had 18 (which is world class). And yea, they could be/would be less positioned to make an attack if you win the ball. One benefit of using wingers in the midfield, is that more often than not, they'll get the ball and dribble up the field. This gives your strikers more time to get up the field. You could also switch one of the PF to a more attacking strikers (AF/Poacher) if you wanted a striker that stays up the field. FM is all about trade-offs and how you want to manage your defensive, transition, an attacking phases. 2. For the DW, I'd rather have a player that is well-rounded, rather than being better at attacking or defending. But if I had to choose, give me a player with good crossing and dribbling. 3. I believe the defensive part of this tactic wouldn't be affected too much by a worse team, but you're right in that a more possession style would probably be better. We were able to move the ball quickly up the field since Man City would commit numbers forward, but if you're playing a team with 8 players in a low block, you may not have as much luck.
The is seriously a great video. The only thing I'm curious about is whether or not you picked up a few yellow cards from having a handful of players on tackle harder.
I believe Alfie (my left DW) picked up a yellow card early; but he always does that haha so I wasn't too surprised. So yea, a player is at a greater risk of picking up a card. And thanks for the comment!
thank you and welcome to the channel!! I've been working on a video to maximize set pieces; or at least some strategies to use. Nothing is imminent, or in the near(ish) future, but it's on the planner! Thank you for the suggestion
Thanks! And I really like the CAR, they have a bit of creativity, will help in wider areas, and are low risk. Also defensively, they sit on the edge of the penalty box which i liked for coverage. Other roles would've worked (like a Box to Box), but I just felt like using two haha
I always thought changing formation for each game doesn't work because of the tatical familiarity etc, but yours seem to work. So would you recommend changing tatics and team instructions to get the better of the opposing team? Never comment on videos but your channel is amazing well done 👍
I personally love changing tactics, especially against different opposition. A big thing is the team instrucitons; I don't use a ton of them my tactics, so when I switch them around, there's not a lot to change or get re-familiar with (basically formation, player roles, and maybe 3-4 instructions.)
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker it really is and its not something ive really put thought into, i do overall team instructions and have faith in roles without really looking into how it works or counters the instructions I use. You are giving me alot to think about haha the football manager addiction just gets deeper and deeper haha
@@keithbehan4660 The worst (best?) part about making these videos is falling in love with all the different player roles and instructions again. Heck I do it with player roles still; the defensive winger is a great example. I'm sure we've all ignored the role, but then you actually sit down and read the description and it's player instructions, and you go "wow this role is actually pretty great"
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker absolutely or just learning how other people use a role differently by adjusting player instructions, the Carrilero role as an example I used them as defensive players in my 442 diamond tactic to cover for my full backs and your recent videos have shown me more I can get out of the role, there’s no limit to how deep you can dive into the game, I will definitely need to spend more time on these tips when building my tactics. God I love FM haha
Loved how when you wanted to defend, you couldn't hold a draw vs Arsenal, but if you press, you destroy Man City. Love your videos, I do, watch them regularly and learn a lot, but fm is baked.
I've just come across your video's today, I watched this particular one enjoyed it immensely and I'm about to go and check out your other content. I've also liked and subscribed. I have many issues with FM regarding tactics, my biggest being SSS(second season syndrome) in which I very much over achieve in season 1 but despite improving my squad I struggle in season 2. What usually happens is that I create more chances(ccc's) than the previous season yet score fewer goals and despite allowing the opposition fewer(less CCC's) chances they score more frequently. This has meant that I rarely have a save that goes past season 2, I just get frustrated and end up quitting and starting a new save. Have you witnessed this yourself and if so, how do you go about rectifying the problem? Cheers
thank you for the support and commenting! And I've totally had that second season issue. The big one for me is (usually) if you stay promoted or get promoted, you bring in new player. So you're bringing in new players and it upsets the current team dynamics, since you're old team had gotten a big boost. Now you have to re-do your team's chemistry. I can't remember exactly what it's called, there's a notification on your squad dynamics page and it tells you how your team's chemistry it. This'll give benefits (or not) to your player's position, passing, vision, etc... too many new players will drive this down. Hope that helps!
Just came across your channel and instanely subscribed, so much detail with quality and simple explanations 🤩, i found the channel as i am wanting to try a new tactic that involves DW's as i want to be really aggressive with high pressing and bit bored of using WB's. I am 15 seaons in with Kettering Town and have won last 3 Premier leagues but yet to win a CL and only 1 final in 7 attempts. But i am stuck on the 4 central roles. i want to try 3CB(2WCB)-2DM's 2 DW - 2 CAMS and 1 ST, i am looking for a mix of high pressing and high possesion, which is why i have created the box 4 in the middle. So for the 2 DM's i was thinking RPM and BMW(su) after watching your videos, with 2 SS's. But also maybe i could use 2xBMW(su) and then have a playmaker as 1 of the CAM's maybe an Engache as i also watched that video with Ross Barkley 🤣 do you have any advise or suggestipons for these 4 roles? i have a lot of elite and world class players which is why i am looking to be so aggrssive and mix it up a bit
Glad you're enjoying the channel!!! and welcome! As for your question, this is my personal tactical preference, but I don't like to use any kind of BWM without some sort of protection next to him. So an RPM and a BWM (or two BWM) will both want to leave their position, and could leave your center backs under a lot of pressure. Use a DM pair of a BWM with a DLP(D), Anchor, DM(D), depending on your preference If you wanted to use an Enganche, I would try two defensive midfielders with something like an Anchor and a BWM(S), or a Defensive Midfielder (D) with a BWM. Or if you wanted the RPM, use an Achor with him. This'll let the RPM go wherever he wants, and the centerbacks will still have protection. Of course, you can always just bludgeon the other team and aim to win every match 5-2 or something haha. Good luck!!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thanks a lot for the reply man, will certainly be giving one of these a go. Leaning towards the RPM & Anchor combo atm 👍keep up the great guides and videos. btw Would also love to see some guides on player instructions in the future if that would be something you'd have time for. Great example is what effect having move into channels has when using it on a CM/AMC and ST, first half without the instruction and second half with. I see most of these tactic channels literally using this PI on 5-6 of there players 🤣 i don't see how that could ever work or be beneficial but maybe it just a broken meta thing that works
thank you! I've been making videos specifically about FM for a couple months now. But I have a background in tv production and broadcasting, so that helps a bit with the setup and getting things started
Well keep doing what you're doing, your content is very different from other FM creators so you've found a new avenue to explore. An explantation of the roles done so well is amazing for somebody that struggles with tactics so thank you
Very nice video! I want to say something for your trigger press choice. Why didn't you increase it? Because of Man City? or you focus on only player roles. Maybe both of them.
For the purposes of this video, I didn't increase it because I wanted to show how the player roles can press on their own. But I actually liked how it worked so if I had this in my own save, I would probably leave it where it's at
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker ok i understand. I will try with possession based tactic. Maybe you try and find something about that. You can make tactic principle combination guide maybe :)
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker did you see the guy who got a managers job through playing football manager a few years ago, seriously...not sure how he got on though. Oh ill just say after watching your videos im into watching my matches in 2d and taking much more consideration into my tactics/player roles etc than I have ever done, and ive been playing this game since Champion Manager 2/3 1998/99 😵
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I think they need someone to start doing something by now, im a Blackburn fan but always supported Man utd in the Champions league etc the 1999 champions league final was by far the most memorable exciting match ive seen in my life, I can still hear the commentator screaming solskjær! Sheringham! Like it was yesterday, happy days! I never in my wildest dreams thought they would go as bad as they have since Fergie went and still havnt found a replacement.
Honeslty I don't pay much attentions to it haha. I'm more concerned about squad dynamics and how the players work together on the field. Also, the less team instructions you have, the less your team has to get re-familiar with if you do a new tactic. I think this video had 3 or 4 team instructions total? So if I switch it around, there's not really much of a difference for them to get used to
This may be a silly question--- Wouldn't setting a tactic right before the MCI game cause tactical familiarity loss? Or is the loss in familiarity offset by the better tactic for the situation? (I know you can train it prior, but just a week or 2 prior wouldn't be enough time?)
Do you have any recommendations on where to learn different pressing styles? I’m building a counter-attacking tactic but I’m not sure how I want the team to press. I’ve inherited a top notch BWM but I’m unsure how to use him in a counter attacking system.
I can't think of any recommendations off the top of my head (other than a UA-cam search), but I'll keep it in mind in case I come across any. As for your question in the short term, My tip would be to watch one of your matches and pay attention when the opponent has the ball. Ask yourself some questions: do I like when they are able to build up and work the ball into our half of the field, which leaves space in behind to counter? Or do I want to press them immediately and not give them time on the ball, but limiting the space in behind? It's easier to figure out how to make your team press if you can get some tangible ideas.. sometimes I'll bring out a notebook or something and right down things I want the team to do.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thanks for the tips. I have speedy players up top so I think it's best for me to allow meaningless possession at the CB level, lure them in with a deeper block, and run into the space. Your channel is great! Keep up the awesome work.
For better or worse, I don't pay a ton of attention to tactical familiarity lol. Like you, gotta change tactics during the season. Over time, I think your players will become more familiar with your different styles anyway. On the other hand, I pay attention to the "team cohesion" on your squad dynamics page. I think that has a huge affect (it even tells you so if the team has poor cohesion) so that's why I always like to bring in players with good personalities
Great video, thank you!!! I have question, I want to make possession with high pressing. I manage to do it. For great result I had to have all the roles were I can make individual instructions, dribble less shot less, take fewer risks. Roles are swk d, CB, WCB, wb,DM,am,pf 3421 formation. Works great,we are statistically best almost in every area. But of course I would like fancy roles like BPD, regista or dlp, maybe treq, DLF. But seems like all this roles with take more risks just rubbish for this system. One reason this fancy roles don't work it's that it's lower league save. What I mean, will elite trq or ap will still have like 85% pass accuracy?
Thank you for the support and I love the question! This is a general idea and not necessarily a fixed rule, but the Treq role is harder to get to work the lower the division. This is because of all that is asked of the role (it needs to be a winger, a striker, a playmaker, etc...) However, I love that role and you should definitely try to get it into your tactic if you want to use some of the fancy roles! What I would do is in your next match, use a Treq in that AM role and then just watch him for 15-20 minutes. What does he do when he has the ball? Are there teammates to pass to? Is he getting the ball in open space where he can use his playmaking abilities? If you're feeling up to it, you can do the same thing in the 2nd half of the match but use an advanced playmaker. Do you like the AP's movement better when compared to the Treq? The AP is more stationary compared with the Treq, so do you like how he interacts with his teammates? You will most likely lose some passing accuracy as your team works through a new playmaker like that, but I think you should at least try to get it to work! Sounds like you have a really good squad and can afford to experiment with your players
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I just made second, season with Boston united, English vana north I guess. Start the game, with real life tran., at Ch l first matches at September 15 or so. When they played around 8-12 games, don't remember. They was 15th. We won the league in same season. Chose them because of decent youth recruitment they had. Same season I already involved 3 15-16 year old, one became starter. First transfer window was not allowed to use and that window was January, cause I star game at 15.09. next year in after promotion I was 2nd and won a izy fa cup. Couldn't gain promotion in playoffs. I mean I know how to break the engine off the game, but I'm hate that so fancy roles like regista just don't work for me. They just not balanced enough for me or I don't know. I want my player to be allrounded in every position I guess. Hate myself 😄
Hey thank you!! I *just* started an Instagram account, so you can send me a DM there (and by just started, I mean there's literally nothing except for the same profile photo haha)! Its @thedeeplyingplaymaker
The short answer is I really enjoy changing tactics and switching things up so I'm okay with the hit to tactical familiarity haha The long answer is that I don't use a lot of team instructions (I think this one had 3 total instructions?) so when I change things around, there's not a lot of instructions to get re-familiar with. This would be more of an issue if I used a ton of team instructions for a certain style (say a low tempo possession tactic with 8 or more team instructions) and then switched to a complete opposite tempo (a very high tempo, direct passing counter style with 8 completely new instructions) for the next match. Then the team has to get familiar with all these new instructions and that takes time. The less instructions, the less the players have to learn or re-learn. I'm also more concerned with my player dynamics than I have with familiarity. I forget the exact screen, but it's on the squad dynamics page and it tells how your playerers will perform on the field together. The better your dynamics, the better their passing, vision, cohesion, familiarity, etc...
For these tactic videos in particular I watch the entire match. Usually takes about 20-30 minutes, so not too bad to get through! It's not as fun if you're losing though haha. In my own personal saves in my free time, I like to watch the full match as well. Though seasons take a looooong time to get through
Yep that's another way to do it! Though, sometimes that can upset your team's defensive shape if you have a player mark a specifically marking a player the entire match. But the trade off is you're able to shut down an opposition threat specifically. Like everything in FM, there's an upside and a downside to everything!
This channel is underrated af

thank you! and thanks for typing out the comment and supporting the channel! always means a lot that these videos are helping out
I would watch even if the video had 2 3 hours , its a pleasure
don't tempt me!! 😂 I could talk about player roles all day
Not sure what I love more.
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker I can only imagine!!
This is top draw stuff. You won’t find this sort of video on any other channel and that’s why I love your content
always appreciate your support and comments on my videos 🙏
I want to add that, players with hi Aggression attr got hi tendency to initiate a press. If you assigned a player with pressing but lower in aggression attr, he will do it poorly most of the time.
Excellent tip/addition
All I try to do is put players in the right position and hope things work out 🤣🤣
And glad you enjoyed the video!
@@nerdifymusic7322how do you implement opposition analysis in training?
I'm dropping a line to help fix the algorithm, so more FMs can lick this absolute masterclass!
Who is this champ? Is he advising Klopp between spells of revolutionizing our fm experience?

I love it!! great comment thank you haha. Glad you found the channel :)
The fact that you gave us an FM video with an Arrested Development reference, makes you the 🐐!
Great insight on facing an opponent as underdog.
Can't wait to test this in my save
Sometimes you just gotta believe your team can get it done... and pray that you can keep players like Haaland contained at least a little bit 😂😂
I just learn tactics by your videos in football manager
that's fantastic!
I've said it before and I'll say it again - best damn FM channel on UA-cam.
Thanks so much... I never thought people would enjoy these videos; been a wild journey so far!
Your videos really shows the other side of FM. You open my eyes to really play the game as its intended. Thank you so much!!
Thank you for the kind words and glad you enjoyed the video! It's such fun approach to tactic making and FM in general
Man, you showing us so many new ways to create a tactic i would never think of.
There's so many fun ways to play FM, glad the videos are helping out
Your videos about FM tactics are, quite simply, fantastic.
I want to say that this is the best channel to learn tactics for this game. Not just learn, properly understand. Cheers for all the great work!
that really means a lot, thank you for writing that out! Really happy that these videos have helped and shown a helpful aspect to FM
Never knew the team mentality changed so much more than just offence, there's always more to learn about fm on this channel 😂
Love the shout out to the CM on attack cause we all know its far none the best in the game
I joked with someone on the CM video that I love all player roles equally, but the CM(A) is like the child who always gets A's on their report card and never acts out
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymakerain’t that nothing but the truth haha
This video actually gave me flashbacks of two different saves of mine:
I need to make a book with everyone's excellent stories about there saves... this is fantastic and a great read!!
Tips: you see the description of each player mentality by hovering your mouse over the balanced/positive/whatever the player mentality set to

Learned a lot from this vid and the many others that you have created. Keep up the brilliant work
fantastic to hear!!! Or read, I guess lol. Love that the videos are helping out 🙏
Very good video!
This could be a valuable learning experience for viewers.
that's a fantastic suggestion! I do love the idea of getting into more... particular tactical styles in addition to some of the more "generic"

Excellent video. Another video covering individual instructions and instructions for opponents would be interesting. I don't understand much about the pressure on individual instructions
Great suggestion thank you!
Love a good Defensive Winger... and I'll have to go back and check out some of Cole's play. Seems like a player I'd enjoy haha
Quality videos! Relearning FM all over again watching this channel😎
Much appreciated! We're never too old to learn haha
Meaning I wouldn't use him as the defensive winger, for example (unless injuries, suspensions, etc...)
He'll still exhibit his playmaking abilities even if he's not necessarily in a playmaking role.

I had a "positive" mentality approach on big games & some of players are "confused" because the approach was too attacking & would "expose ourselves at the back."
I'm still playing FM21 but your videos helps me - like another comment here - "relearning" about the game. Thank you for the video & have a good video. Also, nice Expos' hat 👍

@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker 😂 You have the potential to become Brian Clough. One of his quote: "If I had an argument with a player we would sit down for twenty minutes, talk about it and then decide I was right!"
Also, thank you too for your Central Midfielder role video.

They're a lot of fun! Quite dynamic and a bit creative as well
best FM channel
Thank you!!
This is highly educational, thanks a lot!
You're very welcome! Glad it was helpful
Great video! I just have a couple of questions (that may well be obvious but oh well)
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Thanks so much for the detailed answers, they are very helpful! Keep up the great videos
@@subterraneanhomesickalien4 No problem! Glad they helped and let me know if you have any success with building a new tactic!
Man I just found this channel and I love it
Could you do a vid about maximizing set pieces or include it as a side note in a video?
thank you and welcome to the channel!! I've been working on a video to maximize set pieces; or at least some strategies to use. Nothing is imminent, or in the near(ish) future, but it's on the planner! Thank you for the suggestion
Great video, never thought about using defensive winger before!
A question I would like to ask, why using two CAR in this case?
Thanks! And I really like the CAR, they have a bit of creativity, will help in wider areas, and are low risk. Also defensively, they sit on the edge of the penalty box which i liked for coverage. Other roles would've worked (like a Box to Box), but I just felt like using two haha
great insight man, martinelli-saka would be great defensive winger, hardworker type of winger😅
Yea they're fantastic seemingly no matter where you put them!
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker make sense. Keep up the good work. Legend 👍
Great insight on team instructions vs player instructions.
It's an interesting topic, that's for sure
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker it really is and its not something ive really put thought into, i do overall team instructions and have faith in roles without really looking into how it works or counters the instructions I use.
Great information, thanks. Go Expos!
ha thanks!! The best hat in sports history? Not for me to decide (but yes it is lol)
Hey mate, love you videos.
What additional team instructions would you suggest to improve this tactic?
i think this would fit more of a counter style; so direct passing and a higher tempo. Really take advantage of winning the ball back
Loved how when you wanted to defend, you couldn't hold a draw vs Arsenal, but if you press, you destroy Man City. Love your videos, I do, watch them regularly and learn a lot, but fm is baked.
best channel, great job!
Thanks! 😃
I might start using defensive winger 💀 all hail the deep-lying playmaker !
It's a beast of a role!!!
6:55 As a FMer who usually use a double pivot and 2 deeper fulbacks when building out play, I don’t like this 😂
Just came across your channel and instanely subscribed, so much detail with quality and simple explanations 🤩, i found the channel as i am wanting to try a new tactic that involves DW's as i want to be really aggressive with high pressing and bit bored of using WB's.
Use a DM pair of a BWM with a DLP(D), Anchor, DM(D), depending on your preference
If you wanted to use an Enganche, I would try two defensive midfielders with something like an Anchor and a BWM(S), or a Defensive Midfielder (D) with a BWM.
Your videos are so inspiring, I need to give this a whirl. Are you fairly new to the football manager content creation?

Very nice video! I want to say something for your trigger press choice. Why didn't you increase it? Because of Man City? or you focus on only player roles. Maybe both of them.
For the purposes of this video, I didn't increase it because I wanted to show how the player roles can press on their own. But I actually liked how it worked so if I had this in my own save, I would probably leave it where it's at
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker @TheDeepLyingPlaymaker ok i understand. I will try with possession based tactic. Maybe you try and find something about that. You can make tactic principle combination guide maybe :)
@@muhammetnuripuren4924 Thank you for the suggestion!! That'd be a great video idea
Great video bro 🔥
thank you!
Nice stuff, I think Man United will be looking for a manager soon, you should send them this video when you apply 😅
Haha that would be quite the story I think. I will say, the odds of Man United hiring me are very low... but they're not zero right???
@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker did you see the guy who got a managers job through playing football manager a few years ago, seriously...not sure how he got on though. Oh ill just say after watching your videos im into watching my matches in 2d and taking much more consideration into my tactics/player roles etc than I have ever done, and ive been playing this game since Champion Manager 2/3 1998/99 😵
@@Bonkers4Hex yea that was wild... I think he did pretty well??? But I'm 100% positive I could get Man United to mid table 😂😂
Interesting stuff as ever.
thank you!
Unreal!!!!
thanks!
Very cool stuff. So familiarity doesnt really matter anyway? I was out here worried about it, might aswell tweak tactics for every team I face
Honeslty I don't pay much attentions to it haha. I'm more concerned about squad dynamics and how the players work together on the field. Also, the less team instructions you have, the less your team has to get re-familiar with if you do a new tactic. I think this video had 3 or 4 team instructions total? So if I switch it around, there's not really much of a difference for them to get used to
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker that makes total sense. Less if more sometimes
TDLP is Pep of Football Manager
Going to put this on my résumé
Impressive performance
you think Luton would hire me as an assistant? haha
Impressive win
Need to apply for a manager job right now, it'll be all downhill after this lol
Great video!!
Thanks!!
This may be a silly question--- Wouldn't setting a tactic right before the MCI game cause tactical familiarity loss? Or is the loss in familiarity offset by the better tactic for the situation? (I know you can train it prior, but just a week or 2 prior wouldn't be enough time?)
More of the second option. We lose familiarity with the tactic by changing it, but when gained a lot by switching
@@TheDeepLyingPlaymaker Understood. Makes sense now.
Best channel ever
thank you!!
Does tactic familiarity affect players too? We have to change formations and tactics depending on our opponent.
This is because of all that is asked of the role (it needs to be a winger, a striker, a playmaker, etc...)
However, I love that role and you should definitely try to get it into your tactic if you want to use some of the fancy roles!
🔥
Wonderfull stuff as usual. Is there any social where we can follow you ?
Hey thank you!! I *just* started an Instagram account, so you can send me a DM there (and by just started, I mean there's literally nothing except for the same profile photo haha)! Its @thedeeplyingplaymaker
Love your content, but I wonder how you deal with famililiarity if you keep changing tactics, as with the Luton save?
The short answer is I really enjoy changing tactics and switching things up so I'm okay with the hit to tactical familiarity haha
The long answer is that I don't use a lot of team instructions (I think this one had 3 total instructions?) so when I change things around, there's not a lot of instructions to get re-familiar with.
Spot on, as usual, thx...by the way, I gave the 342 you used against City a go and it works, 2 wins, 2 draws, not bad for the relegation favorites...
@@franciscosustek7249 that's awesome!!! even to get 1 win, but those are fantastic results. Glad it's working out
can you do video on a counterattack tactic and a defensive one
I'm definitely looking to continue with more tactic ideas in the future
Do you always watch the game in full match or just in highlights?
For these tactic videos in particular I watch the entire match. Usually takes about 20-30 minutes, so not too bad to get through! It's not as fun if you're losing though haha. In my own personal saves in my free time, I like to watch the full match as well. Though seasons take a looooong time to get through
Is it possible to get an advanced forward guide
Complete Wing Back Next!
The CWB isn't in the next chunk of videos I don't think, but it's also not the last video on the list haha
Can i use mark specific position with tackle harder and trigger press more for a press?
Yep that's another way to do it! Though, sometimes that can upset your team's defensive shape if you have a player mark a specifically marking a player the entire match.
But the trade off is you're able to shut down an opposition threat specifically. Like everything in FM, there's an upside and a downside to everything!
