I must have watched this video 20 times, going back and forth to double check my work. It turned out even more beautiful than I was hoping for, and even got compliments from my contractor friend. Thanks so much for sharing.
Love that, you’re welcome! 😎
Can you please send a link to where you purchased the screen material ?
Yes.....link for material
Just bought a house with a two level deck & we wanted to screen in the top. Your video is perfect, we know exactly what to do & you saved us $3K!
Love it!!
Finally!!!! This should be at the top of the list. Thank you. I’ve done this before years ago with my grandfather. Just needed a refresher. Money saver
I’m looking forward to making on my porch myself thank you so much for sharing
Thisis just what I was looking for to do myself. you made it look so easy. Thank you
Love it 🙌🏼😎
Thanks for sharing this video. It has been so helpful.
You made that so simple and easy to follow and it’s exactly what I needed to see. Thank you very much.
You’re welcome!
@@how-toswithaaron16 could you post the materials used?
Thanks it looks like an easy diy for hubby. Nice! Good music too.
Thanks, the music is original, check out our music channel youtube.com/@aaronmartiaharrod3343
Thank You for this simple straight forward design & build. It's just what we were looking for our porch situation.
Love that 🙌
Our porch is elevated, and my wife didn't want me to get on a ladder. This solved my problem, and looks great. Thanks so much.
Awesome, love it!
this is genius, last year we had to get it done quickly on our old porch, i just stapled screen to the wood and survived the winter wind by re stapling jt as they blew off every now and then-
this year i am doing section of my porch at a time to redo it, pulling the staples, staining, and screening this way.
i'm so excited because of this video! thank you!
Awesome!
Glad it could help!
Nice job! Thanks for posting!
Thanks; you’re welcome!
Thanks for this video! I stay in a mobile home park in Louisiana. I’m allergic to mosquitoes! I end up in the doctors office every summer because of mosquito bites. I’m determined to NOT be inside during the summer this year 😂. I’ve got my mosquito machine and solar ceiling fan ready but I needed to screen the porch for more comfort. I bought tinted screen for privacy.
Awesome!
Glad the video could help you reach that great goal. And bless you in Jesus name!
Thanks for this.
You’re welcome!
TY. I'll be doing this to my new to me home
Awesome!
Thanks exactly what I'm looking for! I want to screen in my lower deck
Glad I could help!
Being dyslexic its nice to see if what i had planned in my head will work. It will, thanks. Except ill be using some sort of wire because it will be add for space for the cats to safetly be outside.
Awesome!
Glad it helped and cool mod
Thanks ! I'll do it that way :)
Ain’t gonna lie… the original music is quite catchy!😂 I was humming in my kitchen this morning.👍🏽 Makes me very reminiscent.
Love that 😎😁
Honestly this is better and easier than those screen systems you buy (the vinyl and aluminum ones). Speaking from experience. I have the aluminum Screen Tight system, and installing screen is a pain. My screen needs replacing so tearing the track out and just covering stapled screen with 1x material.
This is a cleaner look and you don’t have to mess around with cutting and installing the track and the screen with spline. Cheaper too. Also, buying a power or air stapler makes things 10x easier.
Exactly, totally, and 100
Thanks
Wow, you made this so simple 😂
Thanks, glad to hear that
Gracias justo lo que necesitaba saber para hacerlo yo misma Gracias
De nada y contento de que haya ayudado
I'm getting ready to transform my day room into a screened in porch and this is just the video I was looking for! Do you have one of you framing up the porch or was this already built? Either way, awesome video!
Yep it was already built
Thanks for the comment!
Great post, following this method. I just started on the frames. I only did one section so far. Matched it perfectly aligned with the wood railing and the giant wood posts on the sides. It looks great and flush. But I did notice that the frame is not vertically level. If I made it level it’d likely not be flush with everything else. Arguably, part of it not being level is also because the 2x2 strips aren’t perfectly straight. What are your recommendations?
I would use all screws so that you can tighten it down strong and try to straighten the 2 x 2s
Thank you! Could you please advise how I could adapt this to a covered porch that has a stone wall hallway up instead of wood railing? My posts are wood from the 1/2 wall to porch ceiling.
Sounds like you would just need a 2 x 4 across the top of the stone to start the frame perhaps?
Looks like a simple project. Do you put screen on the underside of the porch as well to keep bugs from crawling through, or leave it open?
Yep I do screen the under as well
@@aaronharrod76 Thank you!
Nice work Aaron. Can I ask if you constructed the rails as well or did you buy them pre-fabbed? Thanks
Hey Thanks
I always build my own rails so that they are custom to my exact project
Here’s a link of how I built some rails: How to build deck handrails // Wood deck railings
ua-cam.com/video/SjlGzmhPWtw/v-deo.html
This is awesome. Do you remove them at the end of the season by simply removing the screws?
Yep, sure could 👍🏼
The wood strip you nailed over top of the staples appears to be a 1x2. Was this item purchased? Or did you rip a 2x2 in half? Great method. I will use it instead of dealing with spline.
Exactly, a 2x2 that was ripped on a table saw
Super helpful, thank you for sharing 🙏 Could you tell me what size staples you use?
T50
@@how-toswithaaron16 Thank you 👍
this was very helpful! Where did you buy the screening from?
Thanks. Lowes and Home Depot have it, although 8 foot pieces sometimes are special ordered. Amazon also has it.
Aaron,
I built a porch and couldn’t find a way to screen it properly. This seems like the fix. May I ask, what lumber pieces do you have? It looks like 2x2 pine. Is it treated? Also, the other Issue I ran into is screening materials. I only found screens 3 feet wide and my windows are about the size you have. What size lumber and screen did you get and where did you find it?
Thank you,
Aaron
Yep you got it right
2x2 treated
8’ screen from Amazon

I want to make one for my grandma
That’s really cool
Where do you get that big off piece screen cause I only can find 36inch
Amazon
DocaScreen Fiberglass Screen Roll - 96 inch x 100 feet - for WindowDoor, Porch or Patio Screening and Replacement, Charcoal a.co/d/6cq1gP2
Is that fiberglass screen or metal. I'm doin one the exact same way with metal screen. And I can't get it tight for nothin
Yep this was fiberglass. Sometimes I use my stapler to help push the screen while I hold the end.
What type and size nails did you use for the frame part?
16 gauge 2 inch trim nails
Is it best to paint wood before making the frames
Absolutely. This project I did for the customer wasn’t getting stained but if you are going to stain or paint, before is best
Where can I get the screen mesh and what are your measurements?thanks

I was hoping this would show the roof being built over the porch too. I have no roof over my deck. I want to make it a permanent enclosure.
Yeah, the roof is a different animal of a project. Sorry I don’t have a video on that yet.
@@how-toswithaaron16 well you did a great job on the screening part so once I have a roof then I’ll come back to this video- thanks so much!
What size staples are best going into pressure treated 2x2?
I use 3/8” T50
Can you show how you screen underneath the deck?
I’ll work on getting that content, but I just cut strips about 18” wide and stapled to sides of joists. You could also just staple full sheets to bottom of joists
did you use screws for the frame work?
Yes, exterior deck screws and I pre-drilled to prevent splitting the ends
Just seems like it would be very difficult to replace the screen later once the house has some age on it, and something happens to the screen. I think I would rather install the screen with the rope that goes in around the frame which will make it easy to re-screen years down the road
Yep, whichever way you think is best for you. If you did need to replace the screen doing it like I did in the video you just take the front trim piece off that was nailed on after screen and put up new screen with new staples.
Measurements for the Poles ? Is 6x6 or 4x4?
4 x 4, but even if yours were 6 x 6, you could still just build your frame in the middle
Do you have a door to your patio leading outside?
Yes and I used the same frame system above the door
Costwise, how is this method different from the groove and spline method?
It can be a little cheaper, but I’d say close enough to go with the look you want
@how-toswithaaron16 great. Thanks. And Also for the great video.
Where did you get the screening?
Amazon
Here’s a link
a.co/d/51HAa62
What size screen did you purchase?
I got 8’
How do you replace the screen if damaged
Just take off the front trim piece that was nailed on after screen and you can staple new screen on 👍🏼👍🏼
Did you do a door? If so how?
Same system for above the door, and bought a screen door from Lowes
What'd you say in the video, 1 1/2 inch picket pieces?
Yep exactly
Lowes calls them 2x2x8’s
@@how-toswithaaron16 Thanks, them calling it 2x2 while it's 1.5x1.5 threw me for a loop
Really?
Don’t the staples rust over time?
A little, but it does take a while and I use galvanized staples, so I’ve never seen it be an issue where they failed
You can buy stainless steel staples.
Did you screen the bottom half?
Yes. I stapled the screening around the outside where the spindles connect top and bottom and the sides.
You said you bought 1.5 inch picket pc..i cant find them
They call them 2” deck balusters at lowes.
www.lowes.com/pd/Severe-Weather-Common-2-in-x-2-in-x-42-in-Actual-1-31-in-x-1-31-in-x-41-75-in-Pressure-Treated-Brown-Deck-Baluster/50279747
Also they usually keep them in the aisle with the concrete (in northcarolina anyway)
Good video but the loud head banger music is annoying.
Glad you liked the visual anyway, music was just more my style and original
You could have saved half the lumber by screening in from the outside Wasted money for the customer but hey more money for you
True, but then the staples would still be visible from the outside, but on a high deck that could be a way to cut corners if needed
The audio is not very good
