Ok I'm finally coming out at age 62 and have been a classic rock fan since 16 but when younger always watched The Partridge Family and have all their albums and still love songs like this one,Umbrella Man,I Woke up in love this Morning and Only a moment Ago.
There is nothing on earth as Magical as the Partridge Family music for the souls. It truly makes me happy and upbeat every time I listen. It was from a Golden Age of the early 70's. A priceless part of my youth.
Loved it when I was 11. Love it now. Timeless. David and Shirley sold this song. Just look at that energy. Susan is enjoying herself.. And the camera work was perfection. Its all great.
The imagery this song puts out makes it seem a little 'heavier' than the audience it was intended for, or at least I have always thought this. Just if you listen to the words and the way the music is driving. Its the Partridge Family's best song I think.
Generally, the problem with the Partridge's musical image (it's pretty well accepted that these were all studio musicians and singers, with only David and Shirley contributing to the records) is that Wes Farrell didn't even try to make it sound authentic. (Was the other male voice on "To Be Lovers" supposed to be Danny or Chris?) There's no way Keith would have written songs this mature. The Partridges were supposed to be a fictionalized version of the Cowsills, but put the records side by side: the Cowsills were hella talented but still sounded like the kids they were.
@@josephnelson2591 Cowsills didn’t write their music either, and used studio musicians as well. Only difference is the laid the vocals and could actually perform their songs live.
I so wish I was David's Guitar right there!!!!! *faint* and the camera guy knew just what he was doing, for all us ladies!!! *smile*! What a fantastic song!!!!! Wish I could hear it on the radio, everyday, right now!! So timeless, and it rocks!!!

This is my favorite Partridge Family song. Wonderful hard hitting, "heart pounding" music. I haven't seen this clip for a long time. Shirley Jones looks so beautiful, absolutely gorgeous. I submit this is the absolute truth, although you will read this no where else.
I heard this on American Horror Story for the first time and immediately liked it and looked it up. Love this song! :) they don't make many good songs anymore. It seems more feeling, euthuesiam and meaning went into older songs.
I grew up watching the Partridge Family on TV in the 70s. I remember how every barber shop had the coolest posters of David Cassidy and how we all tried to have cool hair like him. He provided us with great music and comedy. A truly bygone era for which we can only long for today.
I love this song! And I love how Shirley Jones is shown singing the lyrics "I'll treat you like a woman, love you like a woman..." Very ahead of its time. She rocks this song! Poor Jeremy Gelbwaks...he looks like he's in a trance.
I LOVE that, too, and loved that they weren't afraid to show that on camera! VERY ahead of its time. It's only been very recently where we've FINALLY gotten to the point where women will cover songs to women w/o changing the pronouns! I even started a YT playlist of my faves. Irish & Celtic women singers consistently do this, so it may be common in that tradition. Clannad, Celtic Woman, & Megan Mullally have performed love songs about women.
Sorry unless unless the subject is a lesbian , not changing the pronouns is weird. The same if it was a man. If the object of desire is hetero, that should be stated.
I bought a little portable cassette recorder thru the Sears catalogue when I was a kid a half century ago and it came with a cassette inside to get me started listening. This song was on one of the sides and I had never heard it before or since until now. But I've always remembered the first 5 measures of lyric and melody.
