The Runescape "Rich Man Mindset" (OSRS)

- I use a line with my buddies in my discord “the rich man mindset”, you either have it or you don’t. Whenever someone is using lower tier ammos than they should be using, uncharging their scythe for their gargoyles task, doing an herb run with a 2b+ bank, heading to the GE between raids because they’re out of ppots, and they end up only buying 50, they lack “the rich man mindset”. It doesn’t come from your bank value, but from your state of mind. Guzzling sanfews, gobbling sweets, dumping a hail of dragon darts on your foes, nothing is stopping you from doing this. As a player who worked up to almost an 8b bank from scratch, I’ve made many a dumb mistake with the way I’ve managed my growing bank. Get ready to acquire some knawledge, as we journey to learn what the “rich man mindset” is, what the common pitfalls people fall into are, and how to pull yourself towards a higher bank value.

How are you getting those numbers for sepulchre? Looting the grand coffin under 7mins gets you about 2mil/hr vs all chests from 4 and 5 in 10mins getting you 3mil/hr. That's an opportunity cost of 1 mil isn't it??
dude i havent had a video speak to me like this one. lol im doing exactly what u say, i already have 99 farming and tangleroot and first thing i do when i log on is quick herbrun and birdhouses and buy battlestaffs and after that ive been on a Vorkath grind for a couple weeks now and it never even crossed my mind that the time i spent doing my herbs i could get more money at vorkath and more kills which equals higher pet chance and visage drops... i know ppl will say "well duh" but its just habit, ive been doing the login herbrun for a long time on way to 99 and i guess i never broke the habit and never thought of it as a loss of money.
I read this as Rich Man Mode 😂
@@darton_ you would train agility on hallowed sepulchre regardless, so the opportunity cost doesnt factor in the runtime of getting from f1 to grand coffin, but rather the time you spend going out of your way to grapple/build a bridge/ light torches or use a spell to get to an extra coffin. so basicly: looting vs no looting F4+5. and looting is so incredibly good that you should defenetly do it even with the "RMM"
Gnome before max: I try to stretch my gp to the fullest extent
Gnome now: fuck it we ball
I just do what I want while playing OSRS. I catch 100 chins. If I get bored, I do some zulrah for 3 kills. This hyper efficiency mindset is burning out people asap
Agree with doing whatever you enjoy, but nothing in this vid is hyper efficient. All it depends on is being able to do mid to late game pvm. The irony is, doing cheap methods takes longer overall so if you're going to burnout- it'll be during these methods.
I'm like this too
I just do what I want while playing OSRS. I grind pnm for 10 hours. I dont get bored. I do pnm for 8 more hours. i repeat for 8 months. I dont get burnt out.
You're barely even getting progress in, what are you burning out from LOL
The efficiency mindset is also what makes a lot of people on this game toxic.
I remember sitting at the GE talking to a friend on discord when a guy came up to me and told me “yo, you should sell ur bandos”. When I asked why, he said “get prims and torso it’s better than dboots and bandos”. I told him thanks but I didn’t care about that and he said “I’m just trying to help you be better at the game instead of looking like an idiot. But I guess nothing can help with that” and he walked away
Efficiency mindsets kill games. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be efficient, but when it becomes the dominating mindset everyone just gets burnt out and the people who don’t want to be efficient have to deal with toxicity
Dude is talking about opportunity cost while punching thousands of hours into Runescape :D
I feel like once you get to this level, for 9 out of 10 people this stops being a game and becomes a job you don't get paid for
@Playpro5 I guess I'm the exception. I made it past 2b last month. I pretty much accomplished my goal a while before of becoming a billionaire on my main. I've been flipping for thr past 6 months every night I logg off I usually buy some supplies and sell them later for profit.
@@deathninja16 Beginning of the end
I made billions back in BountyHunter pking on phone, with 8k risk on my pures - without trying. Since then, I had given away a lot, and lost a fair bit, but I made 1.33b back at Nex in 3 days. I am the laziest player in the world. I'm not greedy, and I can barely play once a week for an hour since pking was all I did since 2005, and I have since found it boring, and lacklustre since everyone sucks, and you're fighting the same 3 faces everyday.
reason I struggle to play this game anymore. been playing rs since 2005. wasted so much of my life on this game
@@agucciverse this hits like a truck.
One thing people often forget is that this is a video game. HAVE FUN. If doing a method with a high opportunity cost that saves you pennies is enjoyable, then fuck it who cares.
Life doesn’t revolve around money, runescape doesn’t revolve around gp.
Agreed but it’s still handy advice for ppl who think they are being efficient when using cheaper options when thanks to the opportunity cost, they aren’t.
I just do what I want while playing OSRS. I grind pnm for 10 hours. I dont get bored. I do pnm for 8 more hours. i repeat for 8 months. I dont get burnt out.
@Playpro5 you’d be surprised how many people in both games tell you not to have fun and be efficient instead
@@apophis456 the odd thing is it's just a mindset thing, like you're probably going to be having more fun using dragon enchanted bolts at vork instead of trying to penny pinch using adamant bolts. The kills will be faster and you get to see bigger numbers (which really is the definition of fun in this game ngl), but also it's the optimal strat so you get to spend time at the other fun content sooner.
@@graxtheswampgoblinarchmage5356 true but there are also people who like using that weapon or armor they like, or seeing what they can do on a budget, or a myriad of non optimal things.
Will their kills/skills go by slower? Absolutely. But they’ll be having fun their own way, which is really what matters at the end of the day.
I know I like dodging the lightning attack at rune dragons even though I have insulated boots. Is it optimal? Not at all. But it saves me a shark here and there and I like the concept. Probably slows down my kph but that doesn’t matter for me. I’m still killing rune dragons whether it’s 30 or 100 an hour
I disagree with this mindset. You should play how you want to play.
Constantly pushing players to play in maximum efficiency is what leads to burnouts and worst part is, it ruins the game experience for many. It's a game - you should have fun with it.
I'm totally on the same boat as you here, respectfully disagree on the vid but it's still amazing!
I don't think the rich man mindset has anything to do with fun though.
For example the mahogany vs teak. Is it more fun to use teak planks than mahogany? I doubt it. His point (I think) is just that don't limit yourself for no reason.
If you have a good reason (as he stated in the video) then yes do whatever shit you want, for example having fun is very important.
But I doubt it's more fun to use worse arrows with a tbow than to use the best you can.
Bro he literally says "play how you want to play" in the video what are you disagreeing with. This is directed towards people who THINK they're being """"efficient"""" when it's clear they're not.
You're equally likely to burnout doing less efficient skilling methods, that take longer, because you think you're saving money.
In some ways thats true, but is using inferior ammo fun?
It’s so easy to be incredibly inefficient with your time on rs because of the sheer amount of content and variation. It is essential to be conscious of what is worth your time. On the other side of things, it’s so easy to ruin your rs experience by treating it as a job rather than a game.
Enjoy the journey not the destination has been my mindset for 2 years on the game. I've done a couple of the ass grinds (99 agility, 99 rc) and am getting closer to maxing, slowly but surely. I don't have quite as much time in the evenings now, but I'll grind a skill for an hour, then run a few Tob/Cox raids, rinse and repeat.
I can’t get enough of these videos! So well articulated and concise.
I know right this dude is killin it with the high-tier gameplay videos
Gnomonkey cast when?
Get this man on the cast! He has been putting out quality content for a good while
Sae Bae Cast with Gnomonkey guesting would be a treat. Please get it on the schedule!
If you have this mindset, wouldn't you never do any in-game moneymaking, because working even a modest job and converting your wage to bonds is better GP/hr than Nex?
To take this further, you might as well buy GP from third parties for 1/2 the price to maximize efficiency :)
Or if you are risk averse, pay someone to train a rune dragon alt for you
If you had the goal of grinding for nex pet at some point then you’d be doing nex anyway, and thus the potential money from that alone, is more than enough to cover the costs of this mind set. You don’t need to take it to an irl job because if you’re playing the game anyway, you’ll be making enough gp as it is.
Of course you could take it to an irl level like people with staking addictions do but where’s the fun in that?
Nah the real next level mindset is to find a job that allows you to play while gaining money
Because buying gp using real money takes the essence out of the game, there is no sense of fulfilment if you go that route, so I assume everything mentioned in the video is within the scope of the game itself.
@@MrFeatre Nothing on a main is fulfilling, if you want fulfillment start an iron. I buy bonds at least once a month just to help pad the bank cause I don't have all day to grind like some other sweats. Play how you want, I do.
I came to this conclusion on my own main journey. And I found personally that the mindset haunted me and kept me from enjoying playing most of the game. I didn't have to do certain pieces of content because I had other efficient gp/h methods. Why kill wildy bosses? You get ragged and it's worse gp than vorkath. Why kill zulrah? Vorkath is better.
That's why I made an iron. Now I have to explore the entire game to get the items I need instead of following the best gp/h. I need to get a dpick in the wild despite it's 1 hour of vorkath on a main. Now I need to learn zulrah because I need her weapons.
Tldr: efficient gpscape killed my joy so I made an iron
not this pitch again xD
Was basically about to make this comment
Pets/ untradeables remedy this for me. Also, can’t complain about the grinding part of grinding for gp if you play iron. That entire game mode is grinding. 😅
Agreed, playing most efficiently all the time is the perfect recipe for burning out quickly. The #1 inefficiency is quitting the game altogether. The last time I came back to this game, I thought "I didn't play all these years and now I shouldn't waste any ticks? Fuck that."
Lmao you can smell the iron coming from the first sentence.
yea this mindset being put into a GAME is what kills it for me. well bro you can make 10$ a hour at Wendy's. that's like 50m a hour. why even play rs just go work Wendy's.
well yeah, you can do that. but what are you going to when you're not at wendy's? take extra work? you will get burned out. and you'll feel like playing eventually. even if gp is not an issue because you bought every item in the game with wendy's money, there's still pets, achievements, and something tells me you'll finally see why herb runs and be plinking away at gargoyles is a bad idea.
@@KanonHara my point is playing the game like its a game. runescape is not competitive at all. this rich man mindset is beyond cringe.
@@santY320 Yes this is a game well done for noticing. Since it’s a game, why not consider ways to be better at it? You want to sit around killing gargoyles and doing herb runs for your bonds or do you want to raid with the boys and have a shot at some good loot?
@@Moz29 it may be more enjoyable for some to kick back and do chilled activities rather than flicking gear and prayer every millisecond
@@Moz29 this game is not esport title game. What's the point of being "better" over a chill game?
pure moneymaking to me is like one of the most boring things i could do in osrs. i would just burn out if i had to spam vork mindlessly to justify doing faster training methods. the "rich man mindset" often isnt aplicable if you factor in fun into the game
EDIT:
vorkath is obviously just an example, i have max melee and absolutly hate slayer. so i might as well do hydra or cg. i could also learn to do raids. my clan occasionaly does stuff like corp events.... all of this is basicly just pure moneymaking and im just not interested in it. all i wanna do is max out my account and do collection log content post max and that results in me doing magic longs for fletching atm instead of some sweaty ddarts while doing agility for example because this would be terribly unfun to me.
dont get pinpointed at the exact wording/methods of my comment but rather the concept
to get an idea on how i play my account: i got my achievment diary cape before any 99 i think (maybe str/hp combats) - while i use mostly efficient methods, nobody needs to tell me that this wasnt the proper way to train slayer and i sure as hell did most my skilling in a way that granted me money instead of losing if possible. while im in most highscores my highest non slayer boss is like 150 vork (only because i acually did a task there) or something from combat achievments.
for a very long time my account was poor af (i use gp for all my bonds since day 1) but im still like 2/3 to 1b without a rich mans mindset that does a lot of moneymakers
this is why i love ironman mode
Vork isn't the only option. There's loads of money makers that many players will inevitably do in their rs journey. Most of which result in enough gp/hr to justify faster training methods. You can't possibly enjoy training con for twice as long either, that is also extremely boring.
I agree. Once I reached true endgame no other activity or moneymaker came even close to being as fun and profitable as doing TOB in WDR or 416. However it made everything else pale in comparison
Well, it is fun to get better and faster kills..
It's like upgrading from using whip at Graardor to full crystal with a Bowfa. The kills just fly by. Same with scythe and Tbow at other bosses, and soon the Shadow from Raids 3. Constantly struggling and being on the poor bus isn't fun either.
Yep this mentality when taken to the extreme is just working at your day job and rwt for gp. The fun component of opportunity cost is often over looked. I would much rather do herb runs over vorkath
Disagree with the herb run thing. It's more of a irl deal at the higher levels. I do my Herb run/ birdhouse run in the morning while drinking coffee. No time to boss or what not. But enough time to make that 300k
Cringe
@@velzun8075 yes you are
@@mysticflow467 Get good bum
Then you obviously didn’t watch the whole video, he clearly says that sometimes you make have a reason to do things less efficiently, which makes the less efficient method worth it. Use your brain
It also isn't factoring in the fact that you're gaining farming XP. You'd have to weigh Vorkath + cost of doing fastest farming training against herb runs to really get a fair comparison.
This entire video is basically saying "you should play ironman if you want to enjoy the game for what it is, If you want to play a cookie clicker/tycoon game, play on a main and only do the most efficient methods possible"
Most of this only really applies if you're planning to go for wild goals, because otherwise spending hours exclusively moneymaking represents a cost of losing your fun time, but definitely something for dedicated players to keep in mind.
But what if you have fun making a lot of money
@@Blittsplitt5 then get a job, gp is .33 cent per mill best money making method is 20m an hour if you're doing highest level possible TOA right now that's 6.60$ an hour brother guess what minimum wage at mcdonalds is? (I don't know it's area specific but I bet you it's almost double that)
also most reasonable highest gp per hour is like 10m an hour for normal players with maxed accounts.
@@orphscookie8047 "normal players with maxed accounts" funny sentence lol, you're saying only like the 1%ers of the 1%ers are making that 20m/hr.
Funny how I always think of maxers as being that strongest group of players who have dedicated themselves to the game.
@@graxtheswampgoblinarchmage5356 80% of osrs players have maxed combat accounts or 95+ if you don't ofc you're not making 5m+ an hour it was just for an example of how much gp you can earn. Some people really have nothing going in their lives that they have to be hateful over everything
cmon man I just got my bank set up for herb runs and you drop this shit
Lmao keep doing your herb runs at 99 farming bro. Much love from the snap farmer, efficiency scape mains travel on literally one axis
I just play for collection log its really a fun way to play imo
My main disagreement with this concept is that ever since I started playing, I've consistently made more money from flipping than from PVM or ingame activities. For that reason, it's been beneficial for me to cheap out on gear and instead keep a good chunk of my money in the market. That might change now that I'm approaching the levels for Alchemical Hydra but just saying, for some people this might be a consideration
This mind set is what made me start an Ironman and now I never play my main
Don't be hating on herb runs. They are probably one of the best money makers if you don't have much time to play on a daily basis or what not with mobile. Because work or whatever.
You can easily fit one in during your lunch or a smoke break at work. That's an extra 1.2M a week (Assuming 5 days a week and only do runs on your break) with more if you can fit more in throughout the day.
I was able to fit like 4-5 runs a day at my last job (During my commute to work and back home. Then unpaid lunch break, and I also got 2 more paid breaks throughout the day). My cash stack just slowly grew up over weeks and weeks.
It's like the concept of fun doesn't even exist!
Whatever gets you the most enjoyment out of the vidya game is the best mindset for you
pov: top 0.1% wealth player tells you to recklessly spend money
Bcs it's true, if you can do nex and make 15m/hr why not spend a little more to make other pvm/ skills quicker
Look at your profile picture though...
Looks like you should agree with him???
And it's not wrecklessly spending. Getting an upgrade, no matter how incremental, is always better than staying where you are and keeping the same gear and equipment.
Applies to real life as well, clearly. Progress is progress.
pov: top 5% wealth player tells you to use money to save time on specific methods then use your time to make money. resulting in you having more money and progress in the same amount of time. Even makes sure to include how certain costly methods are only worth doing if certain good money makers are unlocked. zzzz
@@zapdust2928 of course, it is technically true, and a vast majority of endgame players will play like this so that's not the issue, but consider the people this is actually targeted at; mid-game players who are still figuring out the game and will most likely misinterpret the video and do stupid shit ( i would like to clarify that my original comment was more so meant qs a joke playing off of that fact)
The impact of self-esteem on life is absolutely massive. What you feel you deserve and what you feel your time is worth depends on how highly you think of yourself. Regardless, we see that people with higher self-esteem tend to become more successful in their ventures. However, there is a fine line between healthy self-esteem and narcissism.
I like to jump around I have done some faster gp methods but I find it's better not to burn out by switching it up.
I’m doing oak dungeon doors RIGHT NOW going from 84-99 (currently 95) and that 350K xp/hr is grossly low. Even when I’m falling asleep, watching a show, or fucking up constantly I’m getting 400k minimum. Usually though, I average 500K+
Yeah, the opportunity cost of doing mahogany tables instead of oak doors was around 8.2m the last time I checked, which calculated tables at 900k/hr (I didn't test it, this was just the ehp rate I looked up) and doors at 500k/hr (tested and confirmed).
@@ZenataUSA gnome benches gets faster exp rates too. Over a mil per hour
something that goes along with this thoughtset is sunken cost vs total cost,
if it will cost you 5gp/xp to do prayer potions but 6 or even 7 gp/xp to do super attack potions (slightly faster xp too) but total cost to buy those ranarr unf pots will take up a good portion of your bank to where the super attack pots are relatively cheap to buy out. Go with the second it gives you wiggle room to do other things if you're burnt out of that skill to go do a money maker or something else, rather having all your money tied up in that unf pots.
I mean i know it's not exactly on the same mindset, but it bothers me when people make the purchase to buy out a buyable to x lvl (or even straight to 99) then sell it back to buy gear.
But overall you're right. if you have the funds, and the means and the capability to make back the gp in the time saved, always go with the faster method.
Just don't commit to something you don't have the stomach to finish
@@fiddlepants5947 I've never personally had this issue but i find newer players doing this quite often.
Disagree with the herb runs. I do them on mobile while at work, as I don’t like doing other content on mobile, so it can be efficent to get 1m a day rather than not playing at all
He just means when ppl are at vorkath and drop everything they doing to go do a farm run. doing a farm run when u have no other option to make money (like at work) is of course efficient
Gnome I love your content and appreciate your succinct explanations, but 4 years ago me would've had his mind blown listening to this. I'd want to stress to anybody especially new players that this is a high tiered player mindset. Play the game how you want to and enjoy yourself. If you're a meticulous planner; go ahead. But the GP and love for the grind comes in time for most I feel.
Loooooooooool
I get the point about herb runs, but its not like I would do them instead of grinding vorkath or w/e. I do them when im chilling and doing something else and cant pay full attention to the game.
I think he's talking about dropping everything to do a herb run, which I would agree is inefficient and not fun. Doing herb runs when you have nothing else to do is more akin to the Netflix example he used.
Opportunity cost is the most misunderstood thing people get angry about in regards to the "reee efficiency" mentality.
Your con example is perfect. Mahogany planks get 1m xp/hr. Oak only caps out at like 550k xp/hr. I like to even consider the "physical stress save" as important, as construction is very click intensive and the less time you do that the better for your body.
Herb runs time spent is another example. 5 minutes with a 32 farming requirement to gain 3m/hr, no matter how many you do is AWESOME. Not many methods get higher than that, and the ones that do require 99 thieving, high combats, lots of skill at the game, friends who are good, and a lot of gear investment. Herb runs are insanely good profit until you're practically end game.
But how many clicks and time did you use to get that money is also an important question...
Did you Vorkath? Pk? Nex? ToA? Zulrah? Or just buy bonds? People also should consider that question.
Don’t sleep on mobile herb runs when you’re away form your computer
Yeah it’s like one of the best ways to spend a quick break at work
Can make a bond a week, and sleeper xp as well
*cries in ironman*
Thing is, if you really calcd out opportunity costs for items like scythe, sangs, and dragon darts, theyre still not worth using for most content. This is ofcourse unless the content is impossible w/o them, CA speed tasks, but any other grind like pets, opportunity costs even show youre better off using next best alternatives.
The value of money decreases as you buy more upgradess. This is only worth doing if you no longer have any more significant gear upgrades to go for, which really means your money has smaller value. It is only useful for getting even more supplies, that is it.
This is why scythes and sangs are dirt cheap.
Thats the poor man's mindset. Did you even watch the video
@@rossmiller9740 Nothing I said suggest that i havent watched the video, maybe you need to re-read.
@Playpro5 Exactly my point. "Scythe only costs -1.3m GP" means anybody wanting to make money wont use it. It makes you kill stuff faster, yes, but thats only relevant for pet hunting or CA speed tasks like I said. Everybody else cares about gp/h. Whip is better gp/h than scythe everywhere other than tob.
@@capslock5704 “everyone else only cares about gp/hr” you mean all the people complaining that caring about gp/hr ruins the fun for them?
@@Moz29 Yeah, the same efficiency people gnome is referreing to.

Your videos have really been hitting different lately. Great stuff
counter argument in favour of doing herb runs post 99: I work a fulltime job, I have 3 breaks in a work day, doing herb runs during those breaks earns me 800k every day while i dont have time to do other content. When i get home im still geared for another herb run & im still at the last patch i did (usually lumby or ardy to save tp's) so id say doing the herb runs like this earns me 1m a day with
Nice video! Main downside of thinking like this is you end up doing the same efficient things with all of your time. If you want to get really radical, this thinking doesn't have to stop at what's in game. As of right now, making anything over about US$25/hr + buying bonds is better gp/hr than Nex.
But if you do both lol
I mine addy ore in the wildy with a mithril pick and 84 mining. I use a looting bag and drop the ores n pick em up in em and bank em. is that rich man mindset or what boys?
Oh shit nobody told him about right click "use", quick everyone hide
I calculated different opportunity cost of tables vs oak dungeon doors from the wiki rate of 900k/hr vs 550k/hr. Obviously the rates will be lower than perfect but both will be lower. I think my number was a bit over 7 mil/hr
IMO this is a dangerous mindset that assumes you have near infinite time to dump into the game. If you rack up tons of cost, you still need the associated hours to do vorkath or whatever “efficient money maker” you’re able to do. Some people aren’t able to commit that much time to a video game and/or are not going to grind their efficient boss for hours and hours to make up for the cost. Just my two cents. This mindset makes more sense when applied IRL, not towards a hobby.
In his example you're literally halving the time spent training con, so its not like you need more time overall. You just allocate the same amount of time to include some pvm. If you don't enjoy pvm thats fine, but even though I hate vorkath, I'd still rather do that, than do an equal amount of time repeatedly building oak dungeon doors.
@@Moz29 oak dungeon doors is a bad example. Think more of an afk chill activity as an alternate (2t woodcutting vs chilling at sulliesceps). You’re also assuming that you ever even make it to your goals. None of this matters if you burn out doing thousands of vorkath or nex kills. It’s an unrealistic relativity question. His mindset only applies to the sweatiest of gamers.
@@Jimbothegreat53 time is not an unlimited resource. The efficient method only makes sense if you have time to allocate on the efficient money maker. If we all knew exactly how long we’d play this game before quitting you’d be right. Unfortunately we don’t know that.
This is runescape... we all dump unlimited amounts of time into it
@@fsgajdfgasdfasdf230 WC is not a buyable skill so why would that even be considered as relevant to this video? Also you mention burnout like its exclusive to efficient play style when it isnt. You can burn out just as easily doing things cheaply as even though it might be more afk (not even strictly true) you inevitable end up doing it for longer.
Thanks for Justifying me using Dragon Darts in my Blowpipe. 😈
True there are a lot of parallels between IRL and runescape, like me being so rich that I forgot I had a couple mil in my coffer, and quavo forgetting he had 50k in a backpack from a few years ago
Yeah once I got my Tbow I changed my mindset, Dragon Darts in the Bp, leaving items on the ground, and not worrying about the gear I use anymore
I was almost at the end of this video when I realised this didn't apply to me as an Ironman.
But I appreciate you publishing your opinion on this, and I agree with most of it.
it actually does apply to ironman. ironmen have their own personalized economy, it's just made up of resources rather than gp, and less flexible, but it is there.
Not true, I am stingy as fuck with prayer pots and house tabs, I use the farming skillcape to teleport to my house to save tabs, I also never leave prayers on without flicking for slayer
Reminder to anyone that hasn't already figured it out, but the message of the video doesn't apply to 95% of players. People who are in this position have the luxury of time that most don't. Why do herb runs when you can grind vorkath for an hour straight? Well, for me (and a majority of others I'd be willing to bet) I have the gear to do vorkath (full bandos dhl faceguard etc etc) but I only have the time to log in for 5-10 min on mobile at work and do an herb run, believe me I tried bossing at work and getting interrupted by a co worker while trying to do corrupted gauntlet is fairly tilting. Sure when I'm home relaxing I could send an hour of vorkath and sometimes I do, but herb runs over an 8 hour work day is much more feasible while still slowly making me money, it ain't much but its honest work.
He literally says this in the video 🏆
The thing I dislike about this mentality is that is reduces the game down to grinding out the best money making method rather than just enjoying the game as you go. Me doing herb runs after 99 is simply that I have a ton of seeds and don't take long to run
I can understand switching up to better gear to get more kills that part is fine but saying hey don't do herb runs because you make more money at vork is a poor way to look at it I use herb runs as a break from grinding out things like vork I don't do it for profit I keep the herbs
not gonna lie, playing like this sounds like hell to me lol
Doing the slow training methods for twice as long when you could try a multitude of bossing methods instead sounds like hell to me.
@@Moz29 essentially yeah, having to constantly ask "am i profiting in the most optimal way" sounds absolutely awful, i just want to play the game, this game isnt a race.
@@retzky I don't understand how its any different to how much effort it takes to look for cheap methods. Also, a bit of prior planning might sound like effort, but if it saves you hours of grinding in the long run. Obviously play how you enjoy though, i agree on that.

I hear what you're saying and acknowledge you're not a fan of shitting your pants to maintain optimal smithing xp/hr, but ultimately I play content that I think is fun and think chasing efficiency is a super swell way to burn yourself out.
I have 99 RC, but I have never crafted a lava rune outside of the diary step. When I run CG, I don't go for speedrunning strats like no armor or 5:1, and I get a full inventory of food even though I know I can consistently win with less. I like doing Giant's Foundry instead of gold ore at Blast Furnace because Giant's Foundry doesn't bore me to tears. I didn't start my account by getting 99 Agility and selling every Mark of Grace to buy max strength and a cannon. And I am looting in Sepulcher because looting is fun.
I get what you mean with supplies and gear though, no disagreements there.
It feels good to kill 2k Grotesque guardians with Dragon darts and scythe until you check your bank at the end and see you made -60m for no pet.
...you missed the whole part where you didnt actually lose 60m because you saved X amount of hours which could be used gaining X amount of gp..
@@king3213 Dont worry its just a joke about being salty lmao. Waitin on my next task to do it again.
@@jackhofalot6705 Bro clearly you didnt read the comment chain.
How u lose 60m on 2k? I’m at 1800 and have broken even with scythe/blood fury, d darts as well.
"Play efficient gpscape"
Nah. I don't have autism. I buy the idea in this video if you also factor one more thing into opportunity cost: the risk of burnout. I comp caped on RS3 before EoC, and this exact mindset ruined the game for me. Not treating OSRS like this has led to some pretty fun gaming.
Oooh your that streamer. The bowl haircut kid.
:) hitting the nail on the head as always! thanks for sharing!
this mindset is what led me to start rwt and then just do whatever the fuck i want in-game
So cringe.
This video reinforces my belief that Zulrah is better to grind for money than Vorkath.
"Only buying 50 prayer potions" Crap, I only buy 5. Bro that's like 60,000 coins!
"i DonT Do SOul RunES BEcuASE BlooDs ArE WoRTH MoRE" I never heard the end of it on my 99 rc grind in zeah lol. For the record I did souls because they were faster, and I could spend the 30-40 hrs saved doing raids/cg which is exactly what I did.
Herb runs do give a nice mental break for some grinds though. Even if they’re inefficient. Sometimes taking eight to ten minutes (banking at a little more relaxed pace and not being tick perfect, etc) every two hours or so of a grind you don’t particularly enjoy is enough to keep you going.
Remember, logging off because you’re burnt out is 0 gp/hr.
That is some of the finest copium I've ever read. L0l0l0l

Love this video. Puts a lot into perspective
Damn. What a great video. I'm always impressed by your ability to put these concepts into layman's terms. To me that is the easiest tell of an intelligent person. Like listening to Edward Snowden talk. He's not just smart because of his insane technical acumen, rather, how he can describe concepts to others.
Yeah, Einstein pretty much said that years ago.
I just barely adopted this mindset. Mostly because I can’t play as much anymore so I figured hell I’ll just blow cash on better supplies idc if the profit is less. I find overall I actually make more because things get done faster.
By this logic I should just buy all my gold since I make an absurd amount of GP/H in USD.
You definitely should if you're serious about the game and have the requirements for something that's holding you back
I love the money makers I do in game, but as soon as they start getting dreadful and they're not advancing my account I move on to something else. Money making should never be the priority on main unless you're straight up unemployed :)
Rich man mindset made me quit for 4 years and I still struggle against it. I ended up always make me doing the efficient method even if I hated it and lost sight of just having fun.
Me doing a herb run while listening to this ._.
But it does makes sense.
It's not max gear, but I still do herb runs with a 500M bank (basically bowfa(c)/crystal and fang+bandos) because I'm camping ToA and CG. I might do 2-3 raids per night or 1 hr of CG. If I go dry at least my supplies are covered. I don't do them every hour but when I log off I'll do a run and bring extra seeds for another two runs for when I log back on.
This reminds of the time I learnt Nightmarerh did 99 crafting via spinning flax back in rs2.
Fishing lobs to 99 fishing! Legendary Skilling videos lol
Ironically the opportunity cost of playing thousands of hours of Runescape versus doing something else with our lives... well it's pretty astounding.
For most people who play this much I'd think that what we do on RS is fairly meaningless compared to the hours that could be better spent on health, hygiene, diet, exercise, sleep, career, friends, and family.
I'd definitely consider myself addicted and that I'd be better off playing less. Obsessing over getting the most value out of efficient play would further degrade my mental health.
It's important to keep the bigger picture in mind. RS isn't everything.
Saying that with the saved time you can go do your best money maker doesn't really work for me, my best consistent money is Vork, getting about 3m an hour, but the amount of extra attention I have to put into Vork compared with basically anything else I do means that time spent killing Vork is WAY more work than any skilling I do, so if I can save more than about ~1.5m for every extra hour I'll take that instead since my low effort money makers make about that. This video simply doesnt account for the fact that most peoples best money maker is also one of their highest intensity tasks, which makes a massive difference if you're just wanting to have fun gradually seeing your account improve. I do agree though seeing people with Scythes and Tbows penny pinching is hilarious
This is why ironman is great. Obviously efficiency is still prevalent in the game mode but it's not based solely on goals maximizing gp/hr and hence has you doing varied content in the game. Much more of a full game experience. Mainscape GP almost becomes irrelevant when you have enough to merch/flip anyway, takes away a lot of the charm from the game.
Good video
I just do farm, birdhouse runs and thieve master farmers afk. I’m very close to max and don’t have much cash left until I finish off the last 5m of slayer. I did 99 mining and 99 slayer at the same time, which burnt me out but made me really happy that I could accomplish the grind.
its funny watching this, I realized that I slipped into the rich man mindset after unlocking vorkath and rune dragons
I went and bought like 1000 inventories of each resource just so I could spend less time banking and more afking rune dragons for example
This is a super interesting video, i thought it was gonna eb a "max eff look how rich i am" kinda vid, but nah good vidgeya
Love the vid man! Question for you what Plug-in shows the boosted stats? I accidentally clicked something and haven't been able to find it.
I tryed making a iron man, a pker, and a dfs pure. All of which are collecting dust. The ironman i started playing for 2 or 3 days got so bored of doing weird stupid shit just to get a rune scimitar. And countless clues for staff. I ended up not logging bk into osrs for close to 15 months. For me efficient gp scape is the only way i enjoy my time on osrs. If im not making 5-150m per day on osrs what am i logged in for? I cannot stand skilling. I just avoid it at all costs. There a ton of quests i havent done and my account is near 7 years old. I cant stand doing quests because most of the meaningless itens cost gold and youll never yse them again. Also it takes away from my raiding time. I logg in to do toa and cox. I love the thrill of seeing purple lights. Purple flames. Skilling genuinely makes me logg out. And when it comes to infernal why wouldnt i just buy it while im at work? Seriously lol. Im not going to learn infernal cape boss just for a stupid cape. These guys spend hours in there. No thanks i got coins. Why even be logged in for a single second doing something u dont want to do? Questing? 🤮 Skilling?🤢making mills at toa and cox? 😎🍻😀❤️
Every goblin in WoW: "Time is money friends". Thank you so much for this video now I can direct all of the people giving bad advice in my clan to this video.
One thing one also may have to factor in is the human factor.
Sure, vorkath is better than herb runs, without a doubt, and sure, spending twice the amount on construction to get it done twice is fast is time saved. However, not everyone wishes to rush everything, or do the same thing for hours on end instead of doing more varied stuff. In the end, RuneScape is a game with a lot of content. Doing only one or two things limits you and makes you burn out from the game so so much faster. I see it often with friends or clan members ending up doing literally nothing else but cox or tob because of the drops being good, but also then getting bored so much faster cause doing the same 1-3 things can make the game feel like a chore rather than a way of relaxation and fun.
You can play the game for efficiency sure, some like it that way, keeps the brain busy. Some however, prefer saving a few gp to then have an extra prayer pot maybe, or doing something more chill, that is slower to simply disconnect a bit more with the daily life and relax more. I vary in both ways, but prefer relaxing with maybe some non tick efficient iron mining over 3 tick sandstone.
Your video proves some good points though, hell, I even caught myself thinking "oh yeah" a time or two, so definetly a well made video !
Why did you write a 3 paragraph copium response?
Burnout is the biggest thing you have to fight playing OSRS. I've learned in my time playing that doing max efficiency GP/hr methods are not worth it if you're bored as hell of it. Vorkath is boring as hell, don't be afraid to send COX/TOB/TOA/Nex/CG or even GWD with the boys if you're finding it fun. As long as you're not at fuckin KBD, the GP will come.
Like here's a good example and anecdote from my past employer.
He was a rich man but he messed up lots of stuff due greed. Like not calling a handyman for the job. He tried to fix electrical issues himself with help of youtube videos...
Long story short He fixed it temporarily though the method was not safe the building went up in flames at night and he lost his shop.
And 5 others lost their jobs. And the job actually required more than 5 people and we kinda were happy this happened lol.
Seeing a lot of hate about this mindset. Honestly, this video got me fired up. I’m breaking into a late game player and now is when I have to transition to a late game mindset.
This really sold me on making a main account.
Same reason some multiloggers play 50+ accs
Well some people like the iron Man style self-reliance even if they don't play an iron Man account. That said sometimes people are just stuck in the early gameplay loop mindset.
Hearing people talk about the game like this puts me off the game abit 🤢
100% love and agree with this mentality. It drives me crazy when clanmates/friends tell me they are (for example) mining at mlm, because they are making money, compared to going to volcanic mine, or dying constantly out at the chaos alter rather than just using a poh alter. Seriously makes no sense to me. Great video and explanation.
Great timing, Aatykon was discussing Poor mans mindset very briefly so finding this was a good compliment :D
Always broke - never burnt
Never broke - always rich
Go on
I just do herb runs for all my pots. Kind of like iron man.
This is a sign for you viewers to go nex, prices are still brazy fr
Love the video bro!
have you made a construction guide?
Random question. I intend on doing zulrah relatively soon(need a few quests and gear) is void still decent? I’ll grind out elite if I need to but I’m new to bossing and switches and don’t care about efficiency much. Thanks!
Side note, what staff and bow/crossbow would be pretty cheap(I got gold not too much I can definitely spend50-60mil) and still good at zulrah
its usable but not great. you need to kill zulrah to get elite anyways so go for it
@@willionaire9737 thanks! Just dumped my cash to tank bandos with the lil bro the other day so I’ll need to get my money up. I’m thinking about just dumping everything for tbow and just rebuilding using elite void and tbow after that
350k/h with oak dungeon doors? They're easily 500k/hour if you pay any attention
Yeah, but I feel like playing the game based on EVPH (Efficient Vorkath's Per Hour) or some variation is a fast way to burn out. Really, most of the money someone makes will probably be post max when they don't need to dump 500m+ into maxing. At that point, your bank will just naturally grow if you're playing reasonably and not spending money on buyables for post 99 exp. I think this mindset is fine, but not for like, 90% of people. I feel like most would just grow to resent the game. I know I would.
“You either got it or you don’t” :p
No need for emergency fund in osrs. Send that gp
I mean. Kinda.
For example, I just spent my bank on ancestral set in anticipation for raids 3. Was completely broke, but then went to Corp and Arma and got some good splits so I'm back up to 60m in 2 days.
So.. holding onto GP may seem like a good thing to do, but spending it on something to help your grind or upcoming grind is still the better option.
What exactly do you need an emergency fund for in a game anyway? Not like you have a surprise health or dental bill to pay, lol.
And I’m over here like haha trident go brrr
This is not even accurate because efficient players do 0 time gp. Good points tho but does anyone think Lynx Titan farmed gold on his main?
This is wild because I was just telling my brother he's never going to get rich the way he plays. He was mining saltpeter for his hosidious favor and I tried to explain that he should just buy it and go money make instead for faster game progression. My mindset is I can make 3 mil an hour at vorkath so if something only cost 1 ml but takes an hour to grind I'd rather do vork buy it and pocket that 2m.
As a side note my brother was getting mad for telling him to play that way lolol. But hey that's why my bank is 50x times his
It's funny because now I'm getting further in the video and he's talking about a trident which I just bought for my brother. He was complaining about the cost 🤣🤣🤣
I feel like going by this mindset in sessions would just scare players away, and make it not as much enjoyable. This is at least from what I'd assume a new player would think. Just play the game how you want to play it, and have fun. If this method is how you have fun, awesome! I just don't believe everyone needs to have a rich man mindset. I play on my level 126 acc, and often get annoyed by how players at my level act at raids, nex, and even just godwars. It's never relaxed, and never just having fun, it's all "why aren't you doing this, that's not perfect" and personally, I get quickly burnt out from the experience. I just want to have fun lol and crave people who can game somewhat high level, and still be laid back.
I'll stop doing herb runs when I get that damn pet! 😡
